I took my car here because I always hear good things about Jose and that he's reliable. I've taken my car here before, so has my boyfriend, his parents, and aunt. However, based on my previous experience with my car, I'm so disappointed. My car was making a rattling sound and also needed new brake pads and rotors. Jose did a great job with the brake pads and rotors -- it ended up costing around $800 for parts and labor. Like another reviewer mentioned, he marks up the parts by more than 100%. But ultimately, that's not a huge issue for me because he's running a business. When it came to the rattling noise, I communicated which noise it was and he was extremely confident that my car needed a new engine mount. That repair cost $600 for parts and labor. Again, I needed it fixed, so I agreed to it. When I picked up my car and drove away, I immediately noticed a super loud noise coming from the car -- definitely not what you want to hear after paying $1200. I drove back and had him check it out. He said it sounded like something with the shocks, but insisted it wasn't their fault because they didn't touch the shocks. However, when he lifted the car to inspect it, he found that one of the shocks had been left loose by his son. This made me extremely frustrated for many reasons. I found out the same thing happened to my boyfriend's parents -- his son also left something loose on their car. On top of that, it shows me that no one at this business test-drives the vehicles after repairs to ensure the work is done properly and safely. The noise was so loud, it would have been impossible to miss. Jose was not very apologetic about his mistake. He told me it wasn't a safety issue, but clearly it is a safety issue if something is left loose in my car. Also, the shocks shouldn't have even been touched for the repairs they were doing. To top it all off, the new engine mount he replaced didn't fix the rattling noise and my car still rattles. So what did I pay $600 for? I couldn't tell you. I'm extremely disappointed and I will not be back here again. I also would not recommend this place to others. I'm a college student, I drove over an hour to take my car here and $1200 is not money I have just lying around. I work hard for every dollar while in school and I feel completely taken advantage of. read more

I made an appointment for the following day and he worked around my schedule which changes hourly with the line of work I'm in. (Medical Device) I arrived the following day at 9:30am and as he was very upfront with me on what the work he would have to do once he was able to see what was going on with my brakes,. So there was no surprise for me. He set me up with his Wi-Fi PW so I could continue to work, and he took my car to the back. He returned approximately 30 minutes later and gave me the prognosis. Again, I was not surprised as he was upfront and gave me worst case scenario. I gave him approval to move forward with fixing my brakes, and he was done by 10:40am. Here I am again... I've used Jose's services for many years, and he does fantastic work. That said, I'm cheap! So, I do what most "Cheap" people do which is shop around for the best price. I'll get estimates that vary from one shop to the other, I mean huge differences. My wife calls me stupid for still shopping around and you know what, she's right! This is what you get when you call Jose: * 100% truth - Doesn't sugar coat and tells you what you NEED to hear not what you WANT to hear, and I respect that. * Fair Price - I had front and back brake, strut, and sway bar replacements, and he was still less than the other shop quotes. Done on time as promised. * Updates - We were out having breakfast while waiting for our repairs and received a call and text about other repairs needed. I am very new to the Oceanside area, so finding a reliable car service place was going to be a challenge. Since I needed my brakes done, I found Jose at NCBP and I am so glad I did. I felt as though he was so honest when it came to pricing. They quoted me for free, and wouldn't work on the car unless I felt comfortable with the price. Most other places charge you a quote fee, which did not sit well with me. When speaking to Jose over the phone, his voice resembled my cousins, so I felt comfortable talking to him. Lastly, one of the things that Jose said really stuck with me, and I may get his quote wrong, "I want you to trust our work, because we want to see you again. But we want to see you for a different car issue, not the same one we were supposed to fix in the first place." That REALLY stood out to me. Took my car to N County Brake Pros and Jose late last week because while having some suspension work done at the Benz dealership I was told the vehicle needed new rear brakes. Was prepared to be without the car for the day and to have to spend some money to have them replaced. Was surprised to receive a call a couple hours after drop off and for Jose to tell me that my brakes had over 50% of life left and there was no work needed at this time. Brakes began grinding so checked for a shop nearby to get the problem diagnosed and corrected. North County Brake Pros (NCBP) was close by and had great Yelp reviews, albeit limited (less than 30). Called NCBP midday on Sunday and was able to get an early appointment on Monday. Notified NCBP that that the front disc pads needed to be replaced along with at least one rotor and requested that the rear drum brakes also be checked for wear. NCBP's recommendation: replace disc pads along with both rotors and one caliper on front, rear drum brakes are fine but recommend cleaning them out for $60, and replace all four wheel bearings. Approved work to be done except for the drum cleaning. Work was done by COB Monday. Visual inspection verified the pads, rotors, and caliper were indeed changed; although not verified, assume wheel bearings were actually replaced also. Final invoice listed 2 hrs. labor @ $100/hr., for $200 total labor. Total charge for parts was $769.65 and the invoice did include part numbers. A price check on the parts listed on the invoice indicates all parts could have been purchased for $329.46. Thus, the price markup for parts on my repair work done by NCBP was $440.19, which equates to 134%. A Google AI search for fair parts price markup for auto work done in California elicited the following response: "In the California auto repair industry, a "fair" parts markup typically ranges from 40% to 60% for common parts..." read more

I was quoted a price for service and did research to make sure that was a good price. I found it was fair, essentially $150/hr in labor + parts. When I got there he tried to bait and switch me, up charging another 3-400 dollars from the original price when it was very clear over the phone what was being requested. Needed a front brake job for our Hyundai SanteFe and decided to give NCBP a try after chatting with Jose (the owner) a bit. He is just getting setup at the new location there off O-side Blvd and there's no sign up yet on suite D; the front office area is currently being renovated but don't let any of that throw you off.
