Great experience. I rented a bay for 2 hours for a do-it-yourself repair. They drove my car up on the lift for me, then helped me get it down again when I asked. I saved myself quite a bit of money over a mechanic and a dealership-quoted price on a replacement part by buying the part and replacing it myself. I used my own tools, but they had tools for rent as well for cheap. Great overall experience. Definitely way to go for those who don't have access to space to put their car up on a lift. read more

We've always had great customer service and good work done here. We recommend them to everyone who asks for a mechanic.

I went to work on my fiancée's car knowing tools were not included. I expected a lift, a workbench, and some ancillary automotive shop gear. I got everything I paid for! Spent a full 8 hours in the shop and was able to complete the project. I had to bring all tools I needed so that required prep on my end to get the tools I needed. Saved us thousands of dollars by doing the repairs myself. The mechanic on site was super friendly and helpful for any questions I had while I was working in my corner of the shop. read more

This place is amazing! I've been using them for a few years, doing my own work. Today I was doing a brake job on my F150 and had a caliper piston boot tear, leaking brake fluid. The shop manager ordered a replacement from NAPA and it got delivered in 20 minutes, and he talked me through the replacement. Excellent facilities and equipment and great people! read more

I emailed Gearheads asking for a quote for an oil change. Brad responded within several hours with a quote. After emailing back he gave me a date and time the following day. Upon arrival my car was taken right in. From walking it, having the oil changed, a brief conversation about what they did or didn't find, when I should return for another oil change, and paying, it was a total of 25 minutes. I was incredibly grateful I didn't have to wait hours. I sat and waited outside in a comfortable chair. Brad was polite, efficient and knowledgeable. If you're looking for an oil change that is California affordable, don't want it to take hours and want it done by someone you trust, visit Gearheads in Oceanside. I know I'll be back. read more

I had been waiting on backordered parts for my 4Runner for months, when I finally got everything Brad was able to get me in and install everything on short notice. They did a great job with the install and helped out with some extras as well. I'll be back for sure. read more

Gearheads - King 2.5 lift kit. - Auto Repair Near Me - Oceanside, California

I moved out of the area and still drive 30+ min each way to bring my car here. Super honest guy that's not just trying to take money from you. Reasonable prices too. read more

One of my registered vehicles, an older rig, failed smog for the first time. I was pretty upset, no doubt, about pissing away $100. Where I had it tested stated they would do a diagnosis and repairs and that it would be a minimum of $350 to start. WTF? My son, who lives in O'side, uses this rig more than I do, so I let him know I wasn't interested in dropping that much coin to start. He took over the financial responsibility of getting it diagnosed and smogged, and wanted it taken to Gearheads in O'side. So I had it towed there (thank you AAA) on a set date. $140 and a day later it was ready for pickup. My son then took it to get smogged and it passed. They did a fantastic job, saving their customers hundreds of dollars! I am very impressed with Gearheads of O'side and highly recommend them if you live in that area. I would if I lived closer. With gas prices these days, let alone the damn traffic, I will have to stick to the Temecula Valley me thinks. read more

Took my car here to get fixed and was quoted three weeks for the job since the owner was low on staff. I said that was fine and left my car. On the third week called to get an update on my car and Brad snapped at me and said " yea we haven't even touched it. We told it would take three months ." !!!!! Very unfriendly service. read more

Been here 5 times now. I always call A ahead to make sure they're available and they have always helped me that same day. I'll be going there for my next oil change. read more

Brad at the front makes it known he hates being at work and makes it every body's problem. Rude and unhelpful. This is the only place people can come and use a service like this and he takes that as a bill of rights to treat people as he pleases as it will not affect him but only prohibit them from being able to fix their car. read more

Great service and done timely. Received a bid for my wife's Fiat (part required) on Tuesday. The work was done on Wednesday as promised. Rich read more

I had to grease all the contact points for the brakes because the mechanic didn't feel like doing a complete job that I paid for. Also, parts were 2-3 times what they actually cost and the rotors they used were supposed to be high-end but they are blem. Maybe they got them for cheap because of this and made some extra bucks? Gearheads tries to make it seem like they're doing you a favor by not charging an arm and a leg for labor; however, they might as well charge what they want for labor, so they do a good job and charge what the parts actually cost. You're better off buying the parts yourself and forgetting the warranty they offer because the work they did was pitiful. I will never go back here, even if I broke down in front. For some reason the mechanic attempted to tighten one of the lower control arms without a torque wrench and very well may have damaged the ball joint. I do not recommend. read more

I needed to have my front rotors and break pads replaced and by chance I found this company on Google. Being very unknowledgeable about auto repairs, I was nervous and concerned about the cost and who to trust. After calling and speaking with the owner and getting a quote I decided to make an appointment. They were very courteous and were able to get my car in that day. The service was quick and no hidden or extra charges. I was so relieved and extremely happy with the service and highly recommend this company. read more

This shop is a gem. I got to work with Brad. He was straightforward & honest about my car's issues. I feel lucky to have found this shop.

They're the only game in town for a self service garage with rentable tools and lifts, by virtue of this alone they'd get 5 stars! But they they get 5 stars anyway for being available, convenient, friendly, helpful, and providing a safe working space. I do lots of my own maintenance here and I wouldn't have it any other way. read more

Very trustworthy and reliable. The owner Bred will be very honest about your car and always provide options for people on a budget.

I have never been so impressed by a garage, the mechanics who work there and the exceptional way the place is run. Trustworthy, honest and honorable, and pretty handy with cars and engines. Courteous and very straightforward, there is a high level of integrity in how this place is run and managed. We broke down on a road trip nearby and found this place on yelp, impressed by the reviews we read. We showed up before opening time on a Saturday morning with a car that was doing awful things that seemed like they might be pretty serious. When the place opened the owner and all round decent person Brad said he could take us in only if his first appointment didn't show. The place is clean and organized. Customers are obviously loyal. So the car is an older suv and it was running with what felt like a death rattle. It took a long time to uncover several problems that were causing this, including a timing belt and debris inside the distributor. The diagnostic and repairs took the whole day. Every step of the way we were kept informed, our options laid out clearly and honestly. There was no sales pitch, just good honest advice. We appreciated it. At one point we were told that the repair might not happen the same day, due the the sheer scope of the repair. They pulled it off though and the outcome was a car running better than I have ever heard it run. They located the problem, kept us in the loop, got the parts and made the repair in the same day and the result was super impressive. We drove away that evening, after closing time, marveling at how great it is when someone gives a damn about the calibre of work they do. I am happy to highly and unequivocally recommend Gearheads and the mechanics. Fantastic place. Thanks guys!!! read more

My car needed rear brakes, I contacted a few repair shops, their prices were way off ... then I contacted Gearheads and spoke to Brad, the owner. He gave me an excellent price, completed the job in 90 minutes. He also checked my front brakes, cleaned and adjusted them for no additional charge and changed my oil. The shop is immaculate too. Gearheads has my future business! read more

My car started smoking in Oceanside because there was a hole or crack in one of the hoses so the coolant was dripping. Got the tow truck to tow me to Gearheads after my brother found them on Yelp. I was afraid the fix would be really expensive (single mom) but Brad assured me that it wouldn't be and he was right. His mechanics got my car fixed (showed me my problem), told me what I should do to prevent this again, gave me advice to change my other hoses and it is running like new (it's a 2006 model) They fixed my problem and my heater. Plus it didn't break my bank. Brad, you and your mechanics saved my car and me that day. Thank you!! Great place, fast service and more importantly, honest people working there. read more

Contrary to others experience my DIY project was not enjoyable at all. In my opinion the 'Brad' has all the personality traits of a bag of toenail clippings. Condescending, sullen and arrogant, lots of heavy sighs and eye rolling when I interrupted his Grinder swiping with "duh" questions. I guess he assumes the liability waiver I signed absolves him of all liability.....NOT SO. Negligence....I did not watch a safety video per your website. No staff member put my vehicle onto or took my vehicle off the lift. There were no power tools, hand tools, safety equipment, written instructions, safety notices or oral advice given. In the three hours I was there not one staff member said one word to me. I'm 63 years old and 160 pounds...you'd think that in three hours someone might check my progress. A real Limp Bizkit toe rag if I'm honest..... and I am. read more

Super impressed and shocked I could find a place like this in SD County. Brad was quick and professional with my (long overdue) brake job and it was all very affordable. One super cool thing they have available is the DIY garage space. You pay a minimal yearly membership fee and then you can rent the garage space with tools and lifts available. Pretty awesome! If I keep my heap of a VW for much longer I'll be taking advantage of this for sure. read more

This is an honest place to take your car. My husband came here a lot to work on his crappy car and they also helped him a lot when he was fixing everything and couldn't pinpoint what was going on. I was just in with my car on a Saturday morning they had it in and out with the diagnostic check and explain to me exactly what was wrong and how to fix it and all the avenues I could take. So if you want a cheap check with honest guys this is it! read more

DO NOT use these clowns. Long story short. Took a 95 Jaguar to be "diagnosed". The car had a vibration in the driveshaft. Told Brad the problem was most likely in the center bearing driveshaft. He "diagnosed" it as an out of balance rear wheel. This place was a total waste of time and money. Took the car across the street to pros. at Oceanside Driveline. They confirmed the problem was the center carrier bearing. After having gone for a test drive with Drivelines mechanic which Brad at "gearheads" wouldn't even do. You might get something done using their lifts or renting their workshop. DO NOT get a car "diagnosed". They don't have a clue. read more

This is the greatest thing in all of San Diego. The shop is fully stocked and everyone is knowledgeable and very helpful. If you're a car enthusiast, you can't afford not to have a membership. I installed a big brake kit and saved a ton of money over having someone install it for me. It was so much easier with a lift and air tools. On top of that, Brad is a really cool guy and really went over and above to help me out when I ran into some unexpected issues with my project. read more

Wonderful service, yet again. Went in for brake pads. They did front and back in my cooper. Ended up having issues with one of the calipers and they were great about keeping me informed. Found something else minor after a test drive to check the new brakes and informed me of that as well. Great guys, definitely will be back! read more

You can go to a dealer or conventional mechanic and he will charge up to $300 to replace a set of brake pads. I got a set at Pep Boys for under $60 and payed these guys $15 bucks to use a lift for an hour. I had a little time left on the clock after replacing the pads so I rotated the tires too. The last time I did this, I feel lucky that my little scissor jack didn't collapse on me. Having my car on a professional lift enabled me to do this in half the time, and a lot more safely, than it would normally take me. I really hope these guys succeed because this is a real money saver for someone like me who is not a master mechanic, but has the skills to do routine stuff like this. read more

These guys are so rad!!! Best experience I've had with a mechanic, hands down! I normally get repairs done by my father because I've had bad experiences with mechanics in the past. Dad was out of town and my car wouldn't start, called around a few places to get a quote to replace the starter and got quotes anywhere from $300-$400+, these guys quoted me half that, were able to get me in same day and fixed it in just a few hours with no bullshit claims that I needed other things repaired or charging me for diagnostic! I will be back and I would recommend to anyone who wants affordable and fair car service!!! :) P.S. Did I mention they brew their own beer???? Thank you, Gearheads!!!! read more

I stopped in today for a complete brake service on a 2005 Scion xB. I was in-and-out in two hours. I brought in my own front rotors and pads. The rear drums and shoes needed replaced, as well. Joel had a set brought over via delivery service and the car was good to go. Brad was very quick with the technical work. GearHeads prices are fair and I will definitely come back for any future repairs or maintenance that are needed. *I was not paid for this review. They were the first local mechanic to come up in a Google search. After reading other Yelp reviews, I decided to give them a try. read more

Awesome option for DIY auto repair work. Working on a lift is great, and there are people there to lend a hand or help figure something out if needed. I got a ton done in 3 hours, and they had pretty much all of the tools I needed for brake pads, oil change, and swapping an O2 sensor. Highly recommended. read more

Very professional and honest. Fixed my rear breaks and recommend cost effective way for repair other parts.

texted several businesses for pricing for synthetic oil change for my Mercedes, these guys came in with a great price, not the lowest, but close enough as their reviews were some of the best and they were close and convenient. Glad I chose them, delivered as promised with great customer service. Will use again for sure. Street numbers are kind of out of order when looking for location read more

I came here to use their facility to just do an oil change and tire rotation on my Toyota Tundra. I moved to a apartment in Oceanside and don't have a garage to work on my own vehicle anymore so I decided ok I'll take my truck to toyota of Carlsbad and just let them do work on it until I am able to buy another house. Well I couldn't get them on the phone and I couldn't get an appointment and I would leave a message and no one would call me back. So I thought hey maybe I can find a place where I can just do the work myself because I'm tired of waiting. Well I found Gearheads by looking online and called and was able to make an appointment that same day to use their lift. They were very nice when I showed up and the whole thing went smoothly. I hope this business continues to grow and do great. They have a great idea and they are going about it the right way. I wish them well and I encourage anyone to use their facility. They will even offer advice and help you with your job. read more
