Upon arrival my car was taken right in. From walking it, having the oil changed, a brief conversation about what they did or didn't find, when I should return for another oil change, and paying, it was a total of 25 minutes. I was incredibly grateful I didn't have to wait hours. I sat and waited outside in a comfortable chair. Brad was polite, efficient and knowledgeable. I had to grease all the contact points for the brakes because the mechanic didn't feel like doing a complete job that I paid for. Also, parts were 2-3 times what they actually cost and the rotors they used were supposed to be high-end but they are blem. Maybe they got them for cheap because of this and made some extra bucks? Gearheads tries to make it seem like they're doing you a favor by not charging an arm and a leg for labor; however, they might as well charge what they want for labor, so they do a good job and charge what the parts actually cost. You're better off buying the parts yourself and forgetting the warranty they offer because the work they did was pitiful. I will never go back here, even if I broke down in front. For some reason the mechanic attempted to tighten one of the lower control arms without a torque wrench and very well may have damaged the ball joint. I do not recommend. read more

Took my car here to get fixed and was quoted three weeks for the job since the owner was low on staff. I said that was fine and left my car. On the third week called to get an update on my car and Brad snapped at me and said " yea we haven't even touched it. We told it would take three months ." !!!!! Very unfriendly service. read more

One of my registered vehicles, an older rig, failed smog for the first time. I was pretty upset, no doubt, about pissing away $100. Where I had it tested stated they would do a diagnosis and repairs and that it would be a minimum of $350 to start. WTF? My son, who lives in O'side, uses this rig more than I do, so I let him know I wasn't interested in dropping that much coin to start. He took over the financial responsibility of getting it diagnosed and smogged, and wanted it taken to Gearheads in O'side. So I had it towed there (thank you AAA) on a set date. $140 and a day later it was ready for pickup. My son then took it to get smogged and it passed. They did a fantastic job, saving their customers hundreds of dollars! I am very impressed with Gearheads of O'side and highly recommend them if you live in that area. I would if I lived closer. With gas prices these days, let alone the damn traffic, I will have to stick to the Temecula Valley me thinks. read more

I have never been so impressed by a garage, the mechanics who work there and the exceptional way the place is run. Trustworthy, honest and honorable, and pretty handy with cars and engines. Courteous and very straightforward, there is a high level of integrity in how this place is run and managed. We broke down on a road trip nearby and found this place on yelp, impressed by the reviews we read. We showed up before opening time on a Saturday morning with a car that was doing awful things that seemed like they might be pretty serious. When the place opened the owner and all round decent person Brad said he could take us in only if his first appointment didn't show. The place is clean and organized. Customers are obviously loyal. So the car is an older suv and it was running with what felt like a death rattle. It took a long time to uncover several problems that were causing this, including a timing belt and debris inside the distributor. The diagnostic and repairs took the whole day. Every step of the way we were kept informed, our options laid out clearly and honestly. There was no sales pitch, just good honest advice. We appreciated it. At one point we were told that the repair might not happen the same day, due the the sheer scope of the repair. They pulled it off though and the outcome was a car running better than I have ever heard it run. They located the problem, kept us in the loop, got the parts and made the repair in the same day and the result was super impressive. We drove away that evening, after closing time, marveling at how great it is when someone gives a damn about the calibre of work they do. My car started smoking in Oceanside because there was a hole or crack in one of the hoses so the coolant was dripping. Got the tow truck to tow me to Gearheads after my brother found them on Yelp. I was afraid the fix would be really expensive (single mom) but Brad assured me that it wouldn't be and he was right. His mechanics got my car fixed (showed me my problem), told me what I should do to prevent this again, gave me advice to change my other hoses and it is running like new (it's a 2006 model) They fixed my problem and my heater. Contrary to others experience my DIY project was not enjoyable at all. In my opinion the 'Brad' has all the personality traits of a bag of toenail clippings. Condescending, sullen and arrogant, lots of heavy sighs and eye rolling when I interrupted his Grinder swiping with "duh" questions. I guess he assumes the liability waiver I signed absolves him of all liability.....NOT SO. Negligence....I did not watch a safety video per your website. No staff member put my vehicle onto or took my vehicle off the lift. There were no power tools, hand tools, safety equipment, written instructions, safety notices or oral advice given. In the three hours I was there not one staff member said one word to me. I'm 63 years old and 160 pounds...you'd think that in three hours someone might check my progress. DO NOT use these clowns. Long story short. Took a 95 Jaguar to be "diagnosed". The car had a vibration in the driveshaft. Told Brad the problem was most likely in the center bearing driveshaft. He "diagnosed" it as an out of balance rear wheel. This place was a total waste of time and money. Took the car across the street to pros. at Oceanside Driveline. They confirmed the problem was the center carrier bearing. After having gone for a test drive with Drivelines mechanic which Brad at "gearheads" wouldn't even do. You might get something done using their lifts or renting their workshop. DO NOT get a car "diagnosed". They don't have a clue. read more

Dad was out of town and my car wouldn't start, called around a few places to get a quote to replace the starter and got quotes anywhere from $300-$400+, these guys quoted me half that, were able to get me in same day and fixed it in just a few hours with no bullshit claims that I needed other things repaired or charging me for diagnostic! Very professional and honest. Fixed my rear breaks and recommend cost effective way for repair other parts.

You can go to a dealer or conventional mechanic and he will charge up to $300 to replace a set of brake pads. I got a set at Pep Boys for under $60 and payed these guys $15 bucks to use a lift for an hour. I had a little time left on the clock after replacing the pads so I rotated the tires too. The last time I did this, I feel lucky that my little scissor jack didn't collapse on me. Having my car on a professional lift enabled me to do this in half the time, and a lot more safely, than it would normally take me. I really hope these guys succeed because this is a real money saver for someone like me who is not a master mechanic, but has the skills to do routine stuff like this. read more

I came here to use their facility to just do an oil change and tire rotation on my Toyota Tundra. I moved to a apartment in Oceanside and don't have a garage to work on my own vehicle anymore so I decided ok I'll take my truck to toyota of Carlsbad and just let them do work on it until I am able to buy another house. Well I couldn't get them on the phone and I couldn't get an appointment and I would leave a message and no one would call me back. So I thought hey maybe I can find a place where I can just do the work myself because I'm tired of waiting. Well I found Gearheads by looking online and called and was able to make an appointment that same day to use their lift. They were very nice when I showed up and the whole thing went smoothly. Complete disappointment. The staff was less than helpful. Pointed me to a bay and expected me to know how to operate the lift. After very quickly explaining how to operate it, I asked to use the tools that supposedly is included in the price you pay to use a bay. I needed a simple power drill and a few bits to drill holes for mounting a tow hitch. They said they only had one power drill available, and unfortunately it was a rechargeable drill so not very powerful. Low and behold the only two batteries were nearly both drained. Then the drill bit kit they provided was missing 14 of the 20 bits in the set. The few that were in there were dull and useless. Complete waste of my money and time to have driven all the way to Oceanside. Had I known that they are less than helpful and that their tools are rubbish I would have gladly taken my own tools. read more
