Have brought my car in a couple of times - the first time as a recommendation from my best friend's husband. If I'm wrong, I apologize for this bad review and willing to make it right. You decide. I have tried talking to the owner over the phone, in person, and sending the repair shop an email. I described why I think the wrong parts were fixed. And, why I had the same problem with my van when I left the shop at the end. I had to pay an extra five hundred dollars to get my van back. Don't take a chance with this company. This is how it all started... I went to the Toyota Service department to get a quote on repairs. I told them I was hearing a noise, like grinding noise on the passenger side of the van. I said I think it might be the water pump. After the inspection was completed, I was told that the problem was the AC Compressor and AC Clutch. I looked for a better price with a mechanic elsewhere. I decided to go with "D&J Auto Doctors" from Yelp.com. I called to make an appointment and explain what the problem was. I was told, it would be best if I brought the Van to the shop so it can be inspected before I get a quote. When I arrived at the shop the owner walked outside to inspect the Van and look at my paperwork from the Toyota Service department. At that time I told the owner I thought It was the water pump. He asked me if any fluid was leaking on the ground, I said no. He asked me if I had any problem with the AC in the Van, I said no. He said it is the AC compressor and gave me a quote. After he started working on the van he called me to say that a part was broken off the top of the radiator and that I would have to pay for a new radiator. I asked him to just repair the part he broke. He said no, you have to purchase a whole new radiator. He said they don't sell just the one part by itself. He said I can not drive the van without getting a new radiator. When I hung up the phone I decided to look up the cost of a new radiator on Amazon.com. Amazon sold just the small part that the mechanic damaged. I sent a text photo of the part from Amazon. I told him, how about just replacing the part. He said no, he does not purchase just small parts like that. After the work was completed he called me and told me that everything was fixed including some hoses he found leaking. He also said he did find that the water pump was damaged and needed to be repaired. I tried talking to the owner in person. I said I don't think I was treated right and explained why. I said 1. I don't think he really did an inspection to see that the AC compressor needed repair. He just looked at the paperwork from Toyota 2. I believe he did break the part on top of the radiator well trying to get to the AC compressor and refuse to replace just the part that was damaged. He said that part did not exist. 3. It turns out it was the water pump after all. I left the shop with the same problem I had when I started. read more

Can this place be for real? YES! It is!! My Infiniti had a body throttle problem and when I took it to the dealer, they said it would be $900 plus. My husband made me search around for another quote---so I went on Yelp and found D & J's...with 5 WHOLE stars! So I called and talked to Brooke -- who is so personable and sweet and wonderful and reassuring! She said it would be about $300 to repair..after she looked up the part and did some research. I received a call from the shop last night. They had seen my review on yelp and read my bit about the headlight. It seems that they didn't replace it - there may be an electrical issue. He said when he went to change out that particular bulb it simply turned back on! So if I experience no other issues I'll be fine, but if it goes out again I may need to repair it. Fantastic! Most honest auto repair shop I have ever dealt with! They fixed my clutch/tranny/exhaust system all for $900! And fast! Dropped it off Thursday evening, picked it up Sunday! I had welded my leaking exhaust shut because that way I'd never have to fix it again. Seemed like a good idea at the time. That was until my clutch went out. My options were to try to saw thru my pipe (very akward position, and difficult) or take it to a shop. I'm so glad I took it to these guys. They swapped out my transmission with a used one for $900, treated me with dignity and respect, were very patient with all of my annoying questions, and were very honest. Also, the bolts that connect my exhaust system to my engine were brittle and some of them had broken off into the engine block! Aparently Nissan expects you to change out these bolts every few years or 30,000 miles or something. Anyway, D & J drilled into my engine block carefully to remove the corroded bolts and replaced them with stainless steel ones that will never corrode for free! Which leaves me with 2 questions: Why would I go anywhere else and why didn't Nissan use stainless bolts from the start? What are they, a buck a bolt? Oh wait - that's 3 questions. read more

He was so thorough that the owner of the vehicle I ended up purchasing actually commented on how much time and care he took on his vehicle and how if he wasn't moving out of the country he would make the drive to Oceanside from where he lived in Irvine to continue to bring his cars to them! After they helped me find the perfect car (that has been an amazing car ever since) they continue to keep my baby in great condition. If I go in for an oil change they go the extra mile and check out everything else. Darren always keeps me informed on things that may be coming up as far as maintenance on my car and about how long I can expect until it is a problem that needs fixed so I don't have any surprises. As a young female who can appear to not have any knowledge of cars it can be very frustrating trying to work with mechanics who try to take advantage and over charge or make unnecessary repairs or not make the repair at all! Took my 10 year old Honda CR-V here a couple of weeks ago. I just needed to have the transmission flushed and replaced with fresh oil. I also told them it was making a funny noise when the car turned. I received a call about the noise. They recommended that we change the fluid in the differential, as it was original also. Let me start off by saying I'm not a car guy what-so-ever. I know nothing about cars besides makes & models. I went off Google Reviews to find a mechanic for the very first time for my car after finding I had an 'Emissions Leak' code per JiffyLube. Upon calling them just after finding this out, Denise explained the process & what that meant, and was able to squeeze me in the very next day at 9am. They smoked out my car, got it repaired, and stayed the entire time. While finding out new information about it, and even after it's completion, they both explained to me everything about the issue, the fixes, and other information to help me to prevent further issues with my car in that area. And they explained it so that even I could understand, which was great! And I hadn't even said the best part(s) yet.. In the end, Darren told me that he put some fuel cleaner in my tank for me, properly filled my tires with air (because I did it horribly wrong due to my coworkers giving me wrong info), and went above & beyond to find other mistakes/issues my car had. Unfortunately I was getting my car checked out to have it prepared to drive me back to Atlanta where I'll be moving back to. But if I were staying in CA, you better believe they'd be my ONLY mechanics I'd ever go to. They know their stuff that no other mechanics cared to tell me, took their time to be very thorough, and went above & beyond for my vehicle. Since my Kia is my baby, I couldn't have been happier with my decision to come here. Especially since the other places I called wanted about $380 jujst to smoke out the car, while it cost less here to not only smoke it out but also to repair it. I can tell they enjoy what they do and aren't out there to take what they can from your wallet. And I appreciate that in a family business. This place is awesome! Trustworthy, friendly, and thorough. I was looking to buy a truck that was located in Oceanside. I called around to try and find a shop who would give me an honest answer about the condition of the car. I spoke with Brooke on the phone who was very helpful and friendly. She explained a few things that could go wrong with a truck that age. Turns out she was right about the suspension needing work. I got to speak directly to the mechanic who worked on the car and he took the time to explain all of the issues in detail. He let me know what needed immediate attention and what I can hold off on for now. They wrote me up a great quote on the repairs and emailed it to me. All within an hour or two. Hands down the best customer service and quality auto work. When I heard a weird noise that I assumed was my breaks, they got me in on the same day and looked. They showed me exactly what was wrong and why it was causing the issues. Fair prices for parts and labor and they kept it overnight to start work on it the next day.
