Pretty mediocre experience. The wait was a tad too long, the food was only good enough, and the wait staff was pretty inattentive. It was not worth the price but it wasn't horrible. This place wasn't our first choice for a quick brunch in the area during our recent visit and we wished we could have gone elsewhere. Typical coffee shop but has a huge menu and daily specials. It looks smaller from the outside than it is. It has booths on the wall, tables in the middle and has about 6 stools at the counter. I've given this place a few chances after having a decent enough take out meal there a few years ago and it's been a little worse each time. I won't eat there again. I've never tried their breakfast but their lunch and dinner plates are nothing short of lousy. The wait staff is terrible. Went here with my friend two days ago. This place is really good; we got seated right away. They allow you to seat yourself and there were plenty of tables open. The waitress was attentive but she wasn't overly friendly. However, she kept the coffee flowing so we didn't care. My friend had the lumber jack special and I had the hungry man special. The food was awesome. I think this place is a lot better than Cafe Jays across the railroad tracks. The only downside is the parking; it's all on-street parking. a fine local place. Service is usually good to very good. Bacon is not made to order so sometimes it's dry. Omlettes are usually good but again can be too compressed so you lose that airy texture. But, overall worth going. EXCEPT: the music, some pop/rock station has no place in their restaurant. And the volume is way too loud. It's not about the music, it's about the food and relaxed atmosphere. Seems like the music is there not for the customers since it's mostly an older crowd but for the staff. If it were inexpensive then it would have been easier to take, but the bill was almost $25 for two people, with just our meals, coffee, and juice. So disappointing. North Ave Diner seems to be popular in town, so I was excited to try it out. We first went several months ago. We arrived during business hours - about 30 minutes before closing - and excitedly started reading the specials board. No one spoke to us, finally I asked if we should seat ourselves. "No, we're closed", was the surly reply. I pointed out the posted hours and the fact that the "open" sign was on, but was told "No, we're closed", again. We walked out - followed to the door by a staffer who then snapped the sign off. Yesterday we decided to try again, and things started well. My friend ordered a club sandwich, I ordered the North Ave. Burger, topped with "caramelized onions". We were soooo disappointed when the food arrived. The "triple-decker" club was just a double-decker. The sandwich had a weird mustardy taste even though it didn't seem to have any mustard on it. My "caramelized onions" were onions that had barely seen the grill - some were browned, most were not, and they were crunchy! The burgers were pre-made frozen patties with "grill marks" and smoke flavouring. I suppose that's what one expects at a diner? We'd had our food only a few minutes and were discussing what to get for dessert. The diner has a case of desserts that look amazing. A waitress swept by the table, slapped the check down, and said "when you're ready". I must have looked confused; she asked me "oh, were you going to have dessert or something? I mean, I can get it". I understand this is a diner and not a restaurant. The standards are lower as is the bill. The place was clean, no one was rude overtly rude this time, but overall it seemed - both times - that my being there was an inconvenience for the staff. I went for breakfast today (May 5) with my great grandmother (90 years old). Took 2 laps around to find a spot to park close enough. We were seated right away in the little half booth alcove. I've gone here a dozen times and never had a problem. Now i will never go back. Our check was for 18.36. So we tipped $4 (over 20%). The waitress took our paystub. As we were walking out our waitress and another waitress were talking at the register right next to our seat. Only reason I knew were talking about us is i heard...... OTHER WAITRESS: "How much was the check?" OUR WAITRESS - "$18.36" in a rude/dissatisfied tone as i walk past her OTHER WAITRESS - "They could have given you five" So for this conversation to start our waitress had to have complained to the other about it, directly next to our table, that our over-tipping wasn't good enough. If you've been to Brothers in Wakefield you will know how efficient you have to be to serve breakfast. My wife and I went here yesterday morning and it was dead when we arrived. We placed our order and waited and waited for our food. As we watched others that arrived after us receive there food we noticed the waitress saying to what appeared to be one of the owners that our order was never put in. Instead of telling us we sat and waited until finally they came over and said there was a problem with the printer and our order was being made now. When the food finally arrived I had the wrong pancakes and our drinks were forgetten about. Instead of apologizing for the issue and the mistakes we got nothing. I would avoid this and head to Brothers where even when crazy busy the orders are dead on. read more

Please take note of the many reviews for bad service, so I am not alone in my opinion. Before 7 AM on a weekday they have 1 waitress from what I have seen, at 7 another comes on.... Many mornings I have sat there ignored until 7. Today was the straw that broke the camels back, and I let them know it too. The place was near empty, maybe 8 patrons. After 7 AM so 2 waitresses. I order bacon/scrambled/wheat. This is as quick meal to make, it can be timed in seconds. Well I managed to read all of the Herald and look at my FB page before the waitress came wandering out of the bathroom and started looking for the slip for "L5", where I was sitting. At that point I got up, told them to forget it, put 2 bucks on the counter for my coffee and left, making sure they knew they lost me as a customer. In Wakefield, Breakfast and Brothers are synonymous. They NEVER screw up an order. There is NO excuse for misplacing a simple order in a near empty restaurant. The Bacon/Egg & Cheese sandwich off the coffee truck was hot, yummy, and $3.25. Now I know just to go to work and hit "the roach coach" and skip North Ave Diner. Bacon/Scrambled/Wheat.. 5 minutes TOPS, not 15 before you figured out the order was dropped. It is not rocket science. read more

The waitress was very friendly and on the mark with refills and service { I think her name was Sue with such pretty eye's ;) }.
