My wife and I enjoy this little restaurant in a small town. It's a great time. Nice people plenty of pocket quiet cozy.

While the overall meal and pricing were satisfactory, the pancakes were underwhelming. However, the service was attentive and friendly, and the interior was notably well-maintained. read more

I should have taken pics before we started eating but once I dug in I was so impressed, I said I need to write something about this place. After a super long day of travel we wanted some diner food and we're blown away with these big portion sizes and flavor. All 3 of us too a box to go. Love their coffee. My favorite was their big omelettes with homemade fries and HUGE crispy corn beef hash. read more

Hammersmith Family Restaraunt - a plate of food - Diners Near Me - Saugus, Massachusetts

The best food, awesome breakfasts..Great prices, also the best BLT sandwiches...The best home fries...

Great old-fashioned diner-style restaurant with tasty breakfast served in huge portions. I got the corned beef hash benedict, which was giant and delicious, with a generous heaping of home fries (I asked for crispy, and they came out perfect). The corned beef hash is the style you might get from a can -- this is not a criticism, because this is the kind of hash I much prefer, rather than the kind made from scratch you might find at hipster restaurants. Coffee was also really good. Service was super-friendly, and I could tell that there were a lot of regular customers. Lots of booth seating. We'll stop by here again the next time we're in this neck of the woods! read more

Hammersmith Family Restaraunt - Corned beef hash benedict - Diners Near Me - Saugus, Massachusetts

I went to Hammersmith Family Restaurant for the first time last weekend, it was very easy to park and after a short wait we were seated. The service was on point despite the restaurant being packed and with a line. I had the polish Benedict and it was very enjoyable, it had been a long time since I'd had kielbasa. My friend had the corned beef hash and the pumpkin pancake special which were both also tasty. Our cups of coffee were topped off frequently. read more

Came here on Saturday morning, it gets busy but they move quickly. We were sat at a really comfy booth. The service was amazing, servers were super attentive and on top of it. We both ordered juices and Florentine egg Benedicts as well as a single order of french toast to share. The portions were perfect and the food was great. The place was clean and had such a positive, good energy. We will be back! read more

Hammersmith Family Restaraunt - BLT and home fries! 10 out of 10 - Diners Near Me - Saugus, Massachusetts

Living in Saugus, when it comes to going out for breakfast, Hammersmith is the only choice! Been going for years, friendly service, always a great meal, and part of the community. You see residents from all over the area, and it definitely is a family restaurant. read more

Great service. Terrific portions. Good flavor. I was very pleased with this local spot I've never tried. The Irish eggs Benedict was super yummy. Plenty of hollandaise sauce to go around. Home fries were cooked well and the corned beef hash was great. It was cute that they were decorated for the 4th. I'd definitely go again but make sure you bring your appetite! read more

Hammersmiith Family Restaurant must be under new management. There is no friendly family atmosphere anymore. It cannot be called a diner anymore. It has no desserts. The manager/waitress was rude when we pointed out the added charge to her. Fries were $2.50 extra. Something that should be included with burgers. It took forever to pay for check. In the end the manager did take it off the bill. Limited hours. Closes 2pm. read more

My family and I dine here all the time and not only is the food out of this world but the service is also. The ladies that work there are more than servers they treat you like family, I hope to go back again really soon for another wonderful breakfast. read more

Great family restaurant. We used to come every weekend when we lived closer. But we still prefer to make the trip than to hit ihop. Great menu, polite waitresses, happy atmosphere. The only con to them being so good, is that they get very busy and you have to stand and wait for your seat. Of course, this is normal, but you stand in front of the front entrance as there is no waiting area so it can get crammed read more

Justin K. writes: "Now why so bad, the place was full of old people some with blue tinted or pink tinted hair" ___________________________________________________________ Justin, I will make sure to follow your reviews of restaurants you like, since I want to avoid any eating place that might be favored by ageist bigots. For the rest of readers, Hammersmith Inn serves a really good breakfast. It's a small, family place that's been in the center of Saugus for years, one of those places the locals pick over the usual chain restaurants. Good food and great value, give it a try. read more

I have been coming here for years, and love the family atmosphere and the huge portions. The breakfast menu is loaded with lots of yummy treats and every meal is giant. The chocolate chip pancakes are loaded with chips, covered in butter and powdered sugar and are more than enough for even the biggest appetite. The Hammersmith Special consists of huge portions of pancakes, bacon and eggs. On Sundays they are only open for breakfast but are open until 1 pm. They only take cash which is good to know, and the place is loaded with regulars most of the time but they are always so warm to the occasional diners. Great value too! They also do take out. read more

I've been going here for years and years....and years. I'm torn on whether to give it 3 or 4 stars but since I've been going here for years apparently I am a fan. Good breakfast food, fast friendly service and decent prices. I can't think of a dish I've gotten there that hasn't been good. I always get a kick out of the early morning regulars, who have been manning the same seats at the same time for years, mostly retired locals with a very Archie Bunker view on life. Middle Class retirees living the easy life thanks to having worked and retired during the height of US Socialism who go on and on about welfare and Obama. I've been to Tumble Inn in Cliftondale while decent didn't find it suited my tastes, so back to my Archie Bunkers and their amusing social commentary. read more

Does The iced coffee come with refills? The home fries have no flavor. I understand that alot of old people come here. But what about the rest of the world. I like some seasoning on my food. Apparently you have to ask for butter cause the only thing they give you on your plate is smart balance. I think the only things with flavor are the items of food that they actually don't make, like the kielbasa, and the toast. Also they should wipe down the walls of spattered food. My friend ordered a glass of milk and I thought milk was supposed to be cold but we had to ask for ice. I know I won't be back to this place. Kinda pricey. I recommend only the tumble inn in Saugus only for local eats. read more

When im home visiting my mom we usually come to Hammersmith for lunch, and after coming here for 22 years for your dollar it doesnt get much better.Lets face it, If you're expecting a 5 star meal you'll be disappointed, but if you're looking for some old fashioned how gram and ma cooked for you as a kid it doesn't disappoint! read more

Eric, Liz, and I, we do breakfast. Sometimes once, sometimes twice, every weekend. So today, I said, let's do hammersmith, so we can yelp it. It's never good to be mediocre with three Yelpers at the table, even worse to be plain bad, as overall glowing reviews can take a nosedive, within a day. This unfortunately would be the case for hammersmith today. Before reading more let me reccomend tumble inn diner, just down the road, instead of hammersmith. Now why so bad, the place was full of old people some with blue tinted or pink tinted hair and obviously with no taste-buds. Rub hands on wall and feel ketchup and food splatters that never have ever been cleaned. Seats falling apart, and rickety tables. Food, run of the mill, nothing good. Breakfast potatoes, super bright orange and not an ounce of flavor, not even potato flavored. Sad really. Dirty place, gross, stay away! read more

I want to preface this review by saying that I wasn't expecting fancy or gourmet food, just your traditional diner food. With that said, I went to breakfast with two of my friends who grew up in Saugus and said its a pretty decent place. Walked in and we were the youngest people in the restaurant, which is fine. The staff was very friendly and helpful. But the food reflects why the median age of the patrons was seventy years old. The coffee was some of the weakest swill I have ever had, I honestly thought it was tea at first. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel and the waitress looked at me like she had never heard of such a crazy new fangled creation. My friends ordered pancakes and a standard eggs with bacon toast and home fries. The home fires were really bland and neon orange. The eggs in my sandwich also had no seasoning. It seemed like the cooks were either scared of salt and pepper or they weren't allowed to use it. I tried the pancakes my buddy ordered and they were chewy and really dense, as in the batter was over beaten and probably had been sitting and waiting for a day or two. I can understand why people would go to a diner like this. Mostly because they grew up going here. But in general there are much better places to go for breakfast in and around Saugus. I will not be going back and I would not recommend friends to go here. read more

Fantastic food, fantastic service. My girlfriend and I visited at the beginning of April, and we could not have been happier. Wait staff were polite and respected COVID precautions. Tables had plastic barriers between each other. Food was amazing. I can't remember the last time I had corned beef hash that good and crispy. Will go back if we visit again! read more

Below average food. It is cheap but you can figure out why pretty quickly. The bacon is bad. I repeat bad. It's like over cooked or just low quality? It's like tissue paper it's just falling apart. So my next trip I went with the sausage links. Better but taste weird. Clearly frozen. The eggs were ok kinda hard to mess up scrabble eggs. But again they were weird. Like we're way to thin to be fluffy. The pancakes are the only thing that saved the meal. Service was ok only because it was so slow. It does have a bar if you are hurting in a bad way. After that meal I may need a drink. read more

Pretty solid family-owned diner in the heart of Saugus. Service was fast and friendly. Good of booth seating versus squeezing in a bunch of tables. I ordered the Irish Benedict, which came with corned beef hash. It hit the spot. Not complaints from me. My companions ordered the Greek Benedict, which also received no complaints and praise. If you're looking for a good local diner with some interesting twists on the classics, this is your spot. read more

This place is run right - with care and by family. That comes out in a million little ways, and by their attention to detail. The price is right, the food is very good, and the service is outstanding. What else does one need from a breakfast/lunch home style diner? I used to come to the Hammersmith once a month a couple of years ago. I found that the service, as mentioned in other reviews, was speedy and friendly, and the prices were, well, decently cheap. However, I just took a friend of mine there this morning, telling him how good it was (not superb, but a good quick breakfast)... He ordered corned beef hash and scrambled eggs-- the hash was gooey and very undercooked. I ordered steak and eggs. The waitress brought out my eggs first, and they were pretty good-- then followed the steak.... A huge, fatty, undercooked mass of lumpy meat with a pile of seasoning concentrated in the middle. I couldn't even cut a bite out of it, it was so gummy! When I finally shaved off a sliver to taste, it was disgusting. I returned it, told her it was not good, and asked for sausages. Somehow she still managed to charge me 12 dollars for the plate, which was originally 12.50, but she "took off some money". For eggs and sausage ordered directly from the menu, it wouldn't have passed 7 dollars. I pointed this out, and she said "Well, I DID give you a FULL serving of sausage!"-- the sausage also went uneaten, by the way, as it tasted like soap. I know it's not a huge deal, but this really irked me. Poor service. My friend and I paid 30 dollars to eat scrambled eggs and drink hot coffee. Could've done that at home for 5 bucks and not had to deal with attitude and a commute from Salem! I will not be going back. read more

Horrible Customer Service. Cheap and tasteless food. If you are going there the first time then you have to be aggressive, elbow yourself in for a table if they are busy, because they will ignore you and their customers are that types, they just storm in. Poor experience. Never again. read more

This local fav, as evidenced by the crowd of regulars, is very easy to rave about. GO ONLY if you want a good breakfast, lots of food, inexpensive, friendly atmosphere, and did we say GOOD FOOD!! Our usual fare of 2 over easy, home fries, bacon and hash were done to perfection. Fries were well done and tasty while not being greasy or too crispy. Coffee...well there is no bottom to that cup and it is quite good. Decor is what you would expect in a local hangout, clean and what we like to call Diner style.
