OMG What have I been missing when I just want to eat simple affordable food from amazing Servers!! Shame on me for avoiding you all these years! I'm a bad person. First time I went it was a late night right before they closed, just me the lone diner. Stefany brought me an wonderful perfectly cook burger special and yummmmy lovely cooked to my request fries. I ate much too much, I enjoyed it that much and I kept my promise and was out at closing time! That burger is in my personal fav list! Tonight, 3 months later, Stefany still remembers me and I told her, I was hungry for dinner tonight. The entire staff treated this lonely diner very special. I need the TLC, eating alone bites! They made sure I felt at home with a well prepared (not a burger) hot meal! Just to protect my service providers please respect that it was extremely quiet both these nights, so please don't go there when the place is full of customers and expect my total experience, but know with patience they honestly do want you to feel comfortable and well fed when you visit. Service is always nice and polite here at the Riverside NORMS. The menu is extensive; and there's something for everyone. I usually spoil myself with a Tbone&eggs with hash browns and a side of fruits and waffles.....but today, my hashbrowns came out burnt beyond recognition :( Don't know what happened but I was surprised they even served it to me. So again, I've brought my family to NORMS for the past 30yrs and we usually enjoy our meals here. With that said, it really depends on the team/wait-staff/cook that you encounter that can make-OR-break the experience. The wait time was less than 5 minutes to be seated. It was great to be served by Tony. He knows the menu inside and out and has always refilled our ice tea without having to ask. First time stopping in at Norm's for two members of our party of three: we all agreed the experience was really great. We were on the way to Indio, so needed a place to stop for lunch half-way (not necessarily distance but time). The trip from Long Beach to Riverside took a lot less time than anticipated, so got to Norm's about 5 minutes before 11. There are 24 locations across SoCal, and unlike other Norm's, this one is not 24hrs, but open from 07:00 - 23:00. We were greeted warmly by the host when we entered, and immediately shown to a booth in the back. The two dining rooms are very large, with a definite retro fee but not outdated. Tony was our waiter, and he was extremely attentive throughout (even though he had a lot of tables to cover). We learned from his nametag, that he is a certified trainer, and his skills really showed from his efficiency, accuracy, and kindness. Like other restaurants, Norm's has a limited time value menu, which we looked at first. The three of us decided to try different plates, sharing some of the sides. We couldn't allow any take-home, so didn't order too much. Grilled Trout Fillet ($12.99) - I don't see trout in many menus out West, so had to get it. It comes with fries, cole slaw, tartar sauce, and lemon wedges. It was one whole piece of trout, grilled and seasoned well, topped off with fresh lemon juice. I really enjoyed it, especially for the price. The cole slaw serving was generous and it went great with the fish. The fries were not good...had been sitting out too long under the heat lamp. Cajun Chicken Sandwich ($13.99) - choice of side so got Onion Rings. My mother-in-law really enjoyed her sandwich, and shared most of the onion rings with me. The rings were good, definitely from frozen and food service grade, but fried well. Quarter pound burger meal ($11.99) - with fries and soda. The beef was fast food grade, and the fries were the same as mine. Seniors get 10% off of their meal, and like other diners, you get the bill tableside, but you pay upfront. Again, just wanted to call out how well our service went. The food was solid, and the value was good, but the service is what drove this review. Everything went smoothly, and Mom even asked if there are Norm's closer to our home...we will probably visit one of them in the near future. read more

Incredibly disappointed with norms, I used to come here years ago and the food was delicious and I would often bring my family here. Me and my husband came today expecting a good meal but were left with burnt coffee, a sticky table and a raw porkchop and unseasoned undercooked eggs. Came in the morning. There was a lot of people because of Mother's Day. The wait to get sat was 20 minutes but took 35 minutes. The waitress got our order as we sat down. 30 minutes later she came with an order that wasn't ours. She said "I'm confused." She left and gave that order to a table behind us. Apparently someone told her the wrong table number. We waited another 10 minutes for our order. In total we waited about an hour and 20 minutes to receive our food. I understand it's super busy and it's a holiday it was a hectic day. We got 4 refils of (hot) coffee before we got our food. Brother said the coffee (hot) tasted burnt. The food was good. I got a cold brew vanilla cause they didn't have caramel, it was good. I think the cold brew coffee is new. The busboy was on top of our section. He got our creamer and napkins when the waitress I guess forgot. He was constantly asking if we needed refills. Again it was super busy. I've been to this Norms twice before and one of those two times I got food poisoning, but this time the food was really good. I got a socal breakfast with sunny side up eggs, sausage and hash browns I wanted fries but the waitress didn't ask if I wanted hash browns, fries or fruit she just asked how I wanted my eggs and if sausage or bacon. My soup was a sausage and chicken gumbo and my side salad had thousand island dressing. The service was awesome! We had Jenett as our server. She was very hospitable , patient, and clear. She gave us all of our options and told us what was available. Answered all of our questions and offered us some suggestions about a take home meal which we ended up getting 2. This was actually gross. The New York steak was what seemed boiled rather than how it should be cooked. I asked for it medium which should have some blood running out as any normal steak would but this one didn't and it had a white-ish pink look to it. Flavorless completely . When I cut into it , it was effortless , it didn't even saw through, as soon as I put the knife to cut it slid right through. Again, something I have never experienced with steaks before. I was driving and my mother felt like having Norms, so we detoured on the fwy to this location. As soon as we got there, we checked in to a 15 min wait time, which went pretty quick. Then as we were directed to our seat, we got seated near the bathrooms. As soon as I sat down, I had to get back up to flag someone so we could move. It smelled like a burst piped or sewer water smell which was strong and disgusting! We got seated a few seats down. As I started looking around, this is when I noticed how dirty the place looked. I probably should have left then, but my mother was hungry, so we stayed. We then got to the ordering and decided to use the restroom after. The restroom was a whole other story. There was paper everywhere and toilets looked horrible! We quickly washed our hands and went back to the tables. Food came and again something was wrong. The soda my kid ordered was watered down and they gave me a potato instead of the veggies. It's not like I cared at this point cause by then I had already lost my appetite. I took some bites and the food was decent. We finished up quickly and left. When paying, I did inform the cashier about the smell, and she seemed to already know saying they had already mentioned it to manager. If they knew, then why did the server sit us or anyone there to begin with? There was an older guy sitting there by the time I left and I regret not telling him. Luckily, this location is nowhere by where I live, so I won't be going there anymore. I've been to diff NORMS in OC and never had an issue. This NORMS needs major work! read more

I ordered their 1 lb T-bone steak with country potatoes and extra scrambled eggs- everything was hot, fresh, and flavorful. The steak was grilled just right, not tough or chewy like some places, and the potatoes were golden and well-seasoned. The eggs were fluffy and not overcooked. You can tell they care about the quality of the food here. What really stood out was the service. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel welcome. They were super friendly, constantly checking in to make sure everything was okay, refilling my coffee, and keeping a great attitude throughout. It's rare to find service like this anymore, and it really made the experience better. The restaurant is large, spacious, and very clean. High ceilings, wide walkways, and plenty of seating make it feel comfortable even during busy hours. There's a big parking lot out front which made it easy to get in and out. The ambiance is nice and relaxed, no loud music or chaos - just a good spot to enjoy a hearty meal. Funny detail: there was an armed guard standing inside while I ate. Not sure if he's guarding the eggs or just keeping the peace, but it added a random sense of safety and humor to the visit . Prices are affordable considering the portions and quality. You get great value here. Tables are already stocked with all the basics: ketchup, syrup, jelly, etc. so you don't have to wait on anything. Overall, a solid experience. The one stars more of a principal review, my kids were using the vending machine in which it sucked up a dollar whenever I went to go address it with the employee. They said what are you expecting me to do about it? They said the manager's right there if you want to talk with her. The employee ran to the back, told the manager, the manager refused to talk to us. The the employee came out and said there's nothing we can do about it. Call the number on the vending machine. This Norm's is like two different restaurants in one. If you go on the weekday mornings for breakfast, everything is great! Good service, good food, plenty of coffee! Go there for dinner and you are waiting to get acknowledged, you wait for service, and you really don't see any staff. We paid over $100 for three of us, besides the slow atmosphere, all of our clam chowders was served to us cold! We let the waiter know and he said it was due to "They just made it, that's why it's cold". Each time that I try to give them another shot at dinner time, it's always a disappointment. The rest of our orders, the food was good and plenty of portions. There is just no sense of urgency and they do not seem to try or care on the evening shift.
