Norms is our go-to spot for traditional breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My family and I usually come for breakfast, and I always order the same thing: country-fried steak and eggs with hash browns and my choice of toast or pancakes. My husband usually goes for the soup and salad, especially the gumbo soup and ranch dressing on his salad. The service is always great! They offer plenty of condiments and are always on top of refilling our drinks. We've been coming to Norms for years, and it's one of those places we keep coming back to for good comfort food and friendly service. We are seniors me my husband go to Norm's 3 times a week, our cooking days is limited at home, so we visited Norm's because they have the rewards program which they are the only restaurant that gives back to there customers. That's one reason we chose them because of our senior incomes. But when the person scanning the phone for your rewards points puts their finger over the light where you can't see if it scanned and turned green for rewards. I believe they should fix that. The app don't tell y right away if you received your points it takes time. Well this last visit we spent $33.00 and didn't receive our rewards points because putting there finger over the light. When you are on SSI every penny counts. We appreciate the reward points system but getting cheated on the visit doesn't feel right. Maybe we shouldn't depend on Norms only more for points. Pros - Fun retro throwback vibe...never has orange looked so cool. Free parking. Generous portions, with salad and soup and your entree. It's a lot of food. As for the food 3/5...well uh...overall OK. Veggies were two kinds of zucchini (yellow and Italian) and one ling slice if red pepper...but they were mushy and overcooked. Tasted good, but all the nutrients cooked out. The meatloaf was smothered in gravy, which looked appetizing, but it ate salty (I know salty is subjective, as my companion thought the salt level was fine)...but the two slices were burned on one side, and looked like a jigsaw puzzle...but I enjoyed it even though the sauce was covering up a collage of meatloaf. 2/5. The salad was good...clean cold and the dressing (mine Bleu cheese, and hers was 1000 island) this was a solid basic salad 5/5. Her entree was steak, she asked for medium...it cane well done. It was tender though and had grill marks...4/5. The kitchen needs to bone up on the cook for medium versus well done. Our meal came with soup ( I got split pea, she got the gumbo) ....both were large bowls so impressive but both also cane to table cold. The split pea was goopy thick...tasted like split pea tho. The gumbo (potato and sausage in a tomato base) got packed up, so don't know if she liked it as a leftover. The food is average, filling due to generous portions...and all the courses ( salad, soup, entree). Service was efficient but no checkins for refills of water or soda. The check arrived without having to ask, and it was nice to be given permission to take our time and not rush...you pay at the front. It's crowded for breakfast and lunch on a Saturday but it cleared out at 2 pm, so we took our servers advice and had a nice leisurely three hour lunch. I came to eat this morning and I witnessed a staff member being very unprofessional with her coworker. Adriana was very rude and she seemed to be giving attitude to the hostess. I couldn't help but notice the tension since she was basically yelling. I don't understand how someone like that can work as a server at this restaurant, I usually love it here but that put a bad taste in my mouth. We came in last night around 7pm for dinner and was in the neighborhood. It was not crowded at all and was able to get a booth. I ordered for the first time the Sampler Platter which was very good and loved the items selected for the meal. There was tenders, shrimp,onion rings and mozzarella sticks. My country fried steak was nice and fresh. The presentation was nice and clean. My little son's hamburger look really juicy. I almost took a bite lol. My boyfriend and I hold this location in a special place in our hearts as we have frequented this restaurant for many years as a late night date spot. They have cozy diner vibes and is great to have conversations at. I always get a coffee, whether iced or hot, and recently have been enjoying their chicken caesar salad. My boyfriend fluctuates, but we haven't had any complaints on the menu. We like to see the seasonal items they bring out as well. This Norms isn't the closets one to our house but it was said to provide a larger portion and better service by my family who frequented here earlier in the week. If we do come here we try to make it worth our time and explore after dinner to the nearby plazas with Burlington, Ross, and other stores. We came on a Friday night and usually Norms is packed but this time it was just busy inside and no wait. You need all of your party present to get a table which is why we did wait for others given the distance from our home city. We were a party of 6, unfortunately 2 didn't come due to traffic, and seated in the back booths near restrooms (gendered and had multiple stalls, 2 only available in the women one). We were able to fit comfortably at the booth seating but if we had the other two come in not sure if we'll fit! Two staff members helped serve our table, one only handled our drinks and the other took our order and served us for the rest of the time. I'm glad Norms offer summer specials, I do enjoy their usual menu but it's always nice to try something new. Baby back ribs are back and so are other bbq specialty dishes. We ordered: Appetizer: chefs Sampler plate, the best was chicken tenders and their creamy mustard dip(?), the onion rings were crispy, mozzarella sticks were hot and stretched(!), and crispy shrimp was great with the cocktail sauce. Main: I ordered the half rack baby back ribs trio: -Ribs in Kansas City sauce: so good but - bit too saucy -Burnt ends: were a bit too burnt and tough -Dry rub wings: crispy and amazing, should've just got this as a dish itself -Fries: mine weren't r crispy but others were so I was a little sad about that -Coleslaw: pretty good, a bit wet but still coleslaw -And jalapeño corn bread (3) to share: Corn bread was ok, a bit mushy and not spicy at all, butter didn't taste like butter?? It tasted like unflavored unsalted oil? -Clam chowder: broth like soup with bits of potato and a few seafood bits, not creamy and you can see the fat on top, it was good but I don't remember having their clam chowder prepared like this? Potatoes were a bit mushy but the broth was good. Came with crackers (two in a pack to be exact) I also got to try others dish such as: -Korean back ribs (actually a bit spicy for me) -T-bone steak (rare) kind of not that good and looked really pale -The club sandwich (bacon was tough and hard to chew) We had some miscommunication in the beginning since we usually can order apps while getting our drinks and ask for plates to share the apps, but took us a few tries to get those in. Also since they were busy asking for refills was a bit tough but eventually we got it. These were not what I expected for chicken strips... They should be called large chicken nuggets. These are proceeded frozen chicken nuggets... Not real chicken. They were tasty but I was expecting real chicken, you know... Like raising cane's chicken... The veggie side today was super soft lightly seasoned boiled baby carrots. I couldn't eat these... Fries were great. Cajun Chicken Sandwich with onion rings is the tried and true here!! This will always be ordered whenever we go lol. Real chicken, yummy parie bread, fresh veggies, bacon, and lots of great flavors! Diner coffee is a must for me, coffee always hits here just wish they had stevia. He's a huge American breakfast and steak fan so he really wanted to try it... but for some reasons, we never get to, until today! I was in Pico Rivera visiting a client and was thinking about the breakfast here! It's absolutely outstanding! I do not believe the poor review ratings that they have. I love this location! THIS IS ABOUT THE PARTY TEAM COMMITTEE We came in on a Tuesday evening, we noticed a gathering at the corner of the restaurant then we were informed it was the christmas party for the employees. Mind you, theres employees working as i type this and i personally don't think it's fair for the whole restaurant staff. I work at a restaurant and my workplace does it before we open from 6am - 11am. They should be more accommodating to everyone especially knowing someone called off to enjoy themselves at the party.
