Chicken fried steak breakfast

Great small diner! Servers were very nice. Very clean inside. Large portions. Don't go if your in a hurry. They serve good food not fast food. Had the chicken fried steak breakfast and had to share because it was so big.

Cute little diner with plenty of food. Will go back and try other items. Some of the food wasn't as hot as I preferred but was still good.

The homemade food here is delicious from, what I assume, is hand breaded onion rings, to the hand cut fries, to the amazing burger.

There's a billiard parlor upstairs and a large-ish bar in the back (I didn't go into either but could see them when we came in). The main dining area ran through the middle of the building. Very casual but menu all over the place ($110 tomahawk steak or a $12 Reuben sandwich). Good service, very laid-back, not at all pretentious. I think it would make a good candidate for diners, drive-ins, and dives, but I'm not sure they have a signature dish? Clear all the food was fresh, not frozen. I got the catfish with fried okra and french fries. Best catfish I've had in years. And the okra and twice fried French fries were outstanding. Would definitely go back!

First I'll say that I had studied the menu posted on here and when we got there it has changed so I will post the updated menu. We started with the calamari. On the old menu it came with marinara, spinach and peppadew peppers. Sounded fantastic! New menu came with marinara and cherry peppers. Eh, not as exciting but we went ahead with it. What came out was so disappointing! There is a photo here on yelp of a ribeye steak with a basket of calamari in the background that looks really good. What we got was completely different. Pre-breaded frozen rings in a heavy, flavorless batter. They were greasy and there were no cherry peppers or garnish of any kind. The marinara was bleh and sweet. No amount of salt helped either the marinara or the calamari. The dish was in serious need of some acid to cut through all the grease, batter and sweet marinara so I asked for some lemon wedges. They were out of lemons. Next should have been the salad but it came out with the meal instead. That always irks me. Anyway I had gone with the wedge because photos of the house and caesar salads looked pretty boring. The wedge was delicious. A little bit more dressing would have been great but the blue cheese crumbles, jam and tomatoes were on point and the lettuce was crisp and refreshing. Then the entree. Old menu had a 16 oz ribeye for $40, now they offer a 14 oz for $50. Again, I went ahead with it. The farm-to-table beef was what brought us in. I ordered medium rare and felt like it was just barely there, maybe that was just tonight or maybe that's how they always do it, IDK. It was tender, juicy and had great beef flavor, the rancher that raised it did a great job. The cook? Not so much. It needed salt, in fact I don't think there was any seasoning on it at all from the kitchen. I'm a steak purist but a little salt and pepper go a long way and a pat of butter on top really sets it off. Some of the photos here on yelp show beautiful steaks with butter and chives on top. This was just steak. Excellent quality, poor execution. Now let's talk about the side dish. The menu said "roasted corn with bacon, onions, cream and parmesan". Sounds fantastic, right? I can see an image of it in my head and almost taste it! What I got though was absolutely gross and they should have been embarrassed to serve. I guess it was canned corn because frozen should have tasted fresher. It was NOT roasted. The kernels were tough and starchy like field corn, not sweet corn. There were no onions and no parmesan but it was floating in some milk or half and half, I couldn't tell which. Not cream. And it had some bacon in there which was what I picked out and ate because it was the only edible part of the dish. Last was dessert. I was dying to try the ooey gooey butter cake but alas, that was on the old menu, not this one. So we settled for carrot cake. It was a big serving and it tasted fine but it was just a standard bakery cake. It was garnished with whipped cream and caramel which I felt was out of place but hubby liked. The cream cheese frosting was good and there was lots of carrot and raisins in it. Overall the entire meal was just a big "miss" for both of us. Our server was nice and the rest of the staff as well. The place was nicely decorated and had a great deck out back. But when we heard farm-to-table beef I guess we envisioned more than grocery store frozen calamari, nasty corn and basic bakery cake. Even the steak although of excellent quality was lacking, due to under seasoning and under cooking it. The entire experience was just a big disappointment unfortunately. I hope it was an off night for them but we won't be back to find out.

The food selection felt like back when I was in elementary school but better since chicken and noodles was on the line when I visited. The line to get the food can get long during peak hours, but the dessert selection had plenty of pies to choose from. I noticed that there were some vintage dishes on the line such as jello salad and marshmallow salad which is rare these days.

You come, fill your plate and pay about 18 per adult... if you leave hungry it's on you. There is no menu. You just choose from selections that do not change much and all of it is included. The bbq pork is simple but good requiring no additional sauce. The fried chicken is tasty and simply made. There are chicken noodles that are as good as you have ever had. The mashed potatoes are buttery soft. The desert bar presents a Sophie's choice of deserts but you can take as many as you can eat. Leave the calorie counter at home it is not meant for this place. The ambience understated and plain as is fitting for the Amish. The staff is friendly. There are no waiters. You serve yourself. Good, simple and delicious food is on offer here, nothing else. Definitely worth the trip.

Details: Group arrived around 8pm and we would leave around 10:00am after a member of our group was removed. Group would spend over $10,000 from arrival to departure. Friend was playing slots and would cash out a nearly $1000 voucher from a slot machine around 4am. We continued playing until around 9am when we left to get food out, and go to the hotel for a short time. Group returned around 10am and began playing until the player that had won almost $1000 earlier, was banned and almost $1000 cash was forcibly and threateningly removed. Pitboss says that the money was available due to a malfunctioning slot machine THAT HAS HAD THIS ISSUE FOR AT LEAST TWO DAYS but was still available on the floor. The nearly $1000 was available, cashed out and played through and then more money was retrieved while off premises. It wasn't until after an additional nearly 5 hours on the floor and a trip off casino grounds, that the casino demanded payment back in the sum of almost $1000. This left the player distraught, intimidated, and uncomfortable with the amount of money that would be left after the "malfunction", and casino demands. After the player ban, the group would leave, and we will never return to an establishment that cannot uphold their end, or offer any reparation for their mistake. Extremely displeased overall with how a situation at this extreme and with such consequence is handled here. Security is also very rude and takes pleasure in forcibly take money back from distraught players after an entire night of gambling. Immature staff. 0 star rating would be Grand!

They have great beer on tap....which I consider very important for a restaurant. Overall atmosphere was 9 out of 10!!! AND, the restroooms rivals a Buc-ees restroom in cleanliness!!! Now for why I gave it only 3 stars after all the positives I just mentioned. I got the 3 meat platter and I chose brisket, hot link and because they were out of ribs, the cheddar wurst. None of the meat met my expectations. Brisket was dry (I hate having to use bbq sauce....but was forced to on the brisket. It was that dry.), the cheddar wurst is the same quality as you'd find in the sausage section of a chain grocery store (actually it was a bit funky in texture), and the hot link was very plain tasting. I want to see this place succeed so I'm being honest about the food in hopes they kick up the quality a few notches. I'd pay an extra $5 a meat plate for good quality bbq. If you just want to stuff your face with bbq go to a chain bbq restaurant. Not sure what's going on but the quality of food has declined the last few years in local eateries everywhere. Fingers crossed the Rusty Anchor takes the quality up a couple notches.
