I stopped in here to get lunch to-go while I was in the area. I got there right before they opened, and the man unlocking the door was so nice. It's a huge place with tons of seating. And it's got a cafeteria kind of vibe where they grab a tray and load up your meal where you can see it. I got a brisket sandwich lunch combo with potato wedges and it was under $12! And it was a huge portion! That brisket sandwich was maybe the best I've ever had. Tender and not fatty! So good. And the hot bbq sauce is truly spicy! First off the food was amazing the chicken was fresh a crisp, the fries were seasoned perfectly and the Mac and cheese was good as well. One thing that stuck out to me was the great service the employee serving us was kind and even gave us extra food for free. Should have known better. Service is cafeteria style. Went on a weekday at 8pm... 1 hour prior to closing. They were already scubbing the floors, hotel pans and bathrooms. I ordered the rib dinner with the potato wedges, corn on the cob, and added a small side of Cole slaw. The ribs were tender and tasty. The BBQ sauce was sour and watery. Luckily my wife had put a bottle of BBQ sauce in her purse as a joke for a friend. All six of us ended up using our sauce. The corn on the cob was TERRIBLE. Water logged mush on a cob. The best thing about this meal was the Cole slaw. I love supporting local businesses but this one is hard to support. There was no chicken in spite of it being on the menu and all the meats were in warming trays with a cafeteria line. Best thing in the menu is ribs, followed closely by their beans. The beans have loads of chopped brisket in them. Their homemade bbq sauce is sweet and spicy. Every plate is loaded with sides like broasted potatoes or fried okra. You will not go hungry. Would be five stars, but the prices are a little bit high. read more

Please don't think all Oklahoma BBQ is like JL's. This is my second try of JL's BBQ. I decided to give it one more shot. They offer a dinner menu and a lunch menu. The difference (other than the cost) is the number of sides and the number of meat items. On the dinner menu they seem to be very generous with the sides. My wife had the chicken strip lunch with fried okra. It was good. The chicken had a nice crisp coating and the fried okra was good. I had the two meat dinner. I chose the beef and the polish sausage with potato wedges and okra. The beef is different than anything I have ever had in any BBQ restaurant. It is more like roast with a hint of smoke and cut with the grain of the beef, unlike what you would typically see with a good cut of brisket. It was lean, moist and tender, but unusual. Not what you would expect to get in a BBQ restaurant. The sausage was okay. The portions of the meat were fair, but this was a $17.29 plate. Under the meat was a massive amount of potato wedges. Also they pile on a double fist full of fried okra. There had to be three pounds of potatoes. Both the potatoes and the okra were good. It is a lot of money for fried potatoes and okra though! They have their own BBQ sauce that is kept warm in a couple of crock pots on the condiment bar. They have hot and mild. Both are very sweet and syrupy with a hint of cinnamon. I did not care for either. People probably really like this place for the massive amount of sides that come with the dinner meals. The BBQ is just some smoked meats and a poor representation of good Oklahoma BBQ. As a BBQ restaurant it doesn't rate an average. As just a place to eat, with some smoked meat items, I can give it an average. The good news is I have two and a half pounds of fairly good potatoes in a to-go box in the refrigerator, to warm up tomorrow. The better news is this it's the last time I will eat here! Wife wanted to try a new bbq place. We drove 45 minutes to Pryor. It was a terribly disappointing experience. We entered and realized it's a cafeteria style service. I voted to leave but the couple behind us in line told us, "it's all good, you'll get two meals out of it. You've got to try the beans and the potato wedges." So we ventured forth. The servers were busy yelling to the kitchen at the top of their lungs for more fried okra. They were out of bbq chicken at 6:30 on a Saturday evening. We both got a drink and a two meat dinner for $57. A little pricey for "trough food" but in for a penny... the Bologna was good. Ribs were too done, white boned , and bland. Wife didn't finish her bbq beef and didn't want to take it to go. Overall, the beans were good, everything else was just unremarkable. Not well seasoned. Not memorable, except for the price. The atmosphere is pretty loud, especially when you hear the kitchen help yelling, laughing and pranking each other from the dining area. So large glops of unremarkable food, unprofessional service and unpleasant atmosphere all help you imagine what a prison cafeteria might be like. The walls are covered in dollar bills written on with sharpie. I noticed one by our table inscribed with "Christina, Norway 2021" I was so embarrassed. This place was way bigger and better than I expected! I ordered the 2 chicken breast dinner for just under $10 and it came with 2 sides and toast. The chicken was fried crispy golden and had a great flavor. They had a hot and a mild barbecue sauce that pretty much tasted the same. Real sweet barbecue sauce with not a lot of pepper. They also had onions, pickles and jalapeños you could add. The green beans were one of the sides and they gave me a big portion and they were cooked in onions and ham. The barbecue beans had meat cooked in them but a lot of sugar. All was good. With a little less sugar and more pepper in the barbecue sauce and the same for the baked beans it would have been more to my taste but still what a nice place to stop along the highway. Just wanted to throw in an update here. Don't get the Chicken Fried Steak. We ordered it, and they had a nice picture of it covering the whole plate. When we finally got it, it was small. The meat itself was about the size of a mcdonald's burger, and it was so tough you couldn't cut it. The breading was super greasy and made up most of the CFS. the gravy tasted instant and covered the whole plate, I think to make it look bigger. For nearly $16 I expected it to look more like their example. Stick to the BBQ or the chicken strips. read more

Do not go here! All of the 4/5 star review must be the owners and their friends. I have never had nastier bbq. First off, it's cafeteria style. Ever had fries and toast that have sat out? Portion sizes are ridiculously large but piled one on top of the other. Literally. I ordered the baked beans that were poured into my plate, two handfuls of cold stale fries dumped on top of my beans. Next was the pulled pork that got piled on top of that. What the h***! I asked for a 2nd plate so I could separate it and sat down. The pulled pork was disgusting. You can tell by the look and wet texture that it was boiled, and it tasted like a watered down lemon pepper pork roast. I tried to at least eat a few bites but couldn't. The beans tasted funky, sauce (served in a crock pot) was bitter and bad. I didn't eat any of my food. My gf got chicken strips, potato wedges, and fried okra. All had a weird flavor and and were wet from being steamed in the buffet. they actually screwed up chicken strips. We left without eating and went to McD. That's how bad this place was. read more

My family has been visiting JL's for years - definitely one of my dad's favorite places to eat. The portions on the sides are HUGE, they can be shared no problem! I don't feel like i'm paying for nothing when I eat here. The sandwiches are not piled super high, but it's a good portion. I had the bologna sandwich with potatoe wedges and left with a box. Several tables in 3 different dining rooms, and they have private rooms that can be reserved. Free refills on the drinks, and thankfully there's a soda fountain in the middle of the restaurant so you don't have to go back up to the front to refill your cup. That station also has to-go containers for your convenience. If you're in Pryor, or the surrounding area, it's worth checking out! read more

This used to be my favorite BBQ in the US. Now it's just average small town bbq. They changed their links, the smokies are cheap and inedible and my favorite bologna is horrible. The bus boy was slinging dirty dishes while I was filling up my drink and food from the dirty dishes flew at me and my drink! Yuck! The food is less than stellar. Having lived in the Tulsa area for the last 20 years, I've heard many coworkers talk about how good the BBQ is here. I was in the area, so popped in to give it a try. I have to say this might have been good BBQ back when restaurant choices were limited, but this is just not good food. However, the locals seem to still love it. I'm not a fan of cafeteria style service. That always means that food has been sitting for hours and the temperature is never hot enough for my liking. I ordered a 2 meat plate, ribs and brisket. The server took the pre-sliced brisket and placed it in a steam cabinet for about 15 seconds to flash steam and bring the temp up. I should have asked for something else at that point. I also ordered their baked beans after the server said they were really good, as well as corn on the cob. The ribs were okay. Tender but not much flavor. The brisket had turned a strange gray color after its steam massage and was still dried out and very bland. The corn was mushy and overcooked from soaking in the hot tub too long. The beans, as another reviewer stated seemed to be "canned beans" with a few meat scraps thrown in as well as some added sweeteners. Pretty disappointed, there was a lot of yelling going on between the staff members, after getting in line we noticed a sign that anyone using a credit card will be charged an additional 3 plus percent on the bill. The patrons mostly mirrored the staff, very loud voices. Turn down your hearing aids. The locals seemed to know how to order items that were not on the menu board but first timers were not given the opportunity. The portion size seemed huge but the quality is definitely lacking. A beef sandwich, be prepared, is a huge pile of shaved beef on a large bun. Going through the line is okay for someone using a cane but zero staff even offered to carry a tray to the table for someone using a cane with obviously only one hand free. This place is definitely lacking in service to seniors and those with disabilities. The only empty disability space vacant was not properly marked so other vehicles were parked into the areas needed to navigate a wheelchair or walker. If someone likes quantity over quality this place would be for them. There were a nice variety of fountain soft drinks available in addition to sweet and unsweetened tea. read more
