Don't let the strip mall fool you. Yoshi is hiding some of the best, most upscale sushi in the…read morecity! TL;DR: Upscale food in a low-key area. We spent $230 (w/ tip) and it was worth every penny. Probably the best Japanese restaurant in the city. We passed by this place multiple times on our way elsewhere. We're Mario fans, so the name Yoshi caught our eye, but the cramped strip mall exterior doesn't exactly scream culinary dream. We decided to take a chance, and let me just say--wow. It's an intimate space with just a few tables and an 8-10 seat sushi bar. We didn't have reservations (make one, they fill up fast) but managed to snag seats at the bar. The service immediately stood out. We had better attention here than at some upscale steakhouses--glasses never went empty, and their menu suggestions were spot on. One minor heads-up: at the sushi bar, staff sometimes walk behind you to talk to the chefs, which can be a bit distracting. For starters, we grabbed the gyoza and asked for a standout small plate. They pointed us to the beef tongue. It arrived hot with shredded onions and spicy mustard, delivering a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth tenderness with a deep, beefy richness. The gyoza was equally flawless. Instead of the overly chewy or burnt wrappers you find at most spots, these had a delicate, golden-brown sear with an intensely savory, garlicky umami filling. We paired this with Sayuri sake, a creamy, unfiltered pour that perfectly balanced sweetness with a dry, clean finish. Since we love nigiri, we ordered a spread: tuna, salmon, smoked salmon, sweet shrimp, and Japanese scallop, plus a salmon/avocado roll. The cuts were impeccably sourced and practically dissolved on the tongue. You rarely find this level of consistency. Just a heads up--they prepare it the traditional way, meaning there is a dab of wasabi tucked directly under the fish. We also tried the Wagyu A-5 roll. It's about as "meat and potatoes" as a roll can get: steak, carrots, asparagus, and rice. The seared Wagyu fat melted instantly, creating a decadent, buttery glaze over the crisp vegetables. It's one of those rare foods that genuinely forces you to pause after each bite. At $40, it was 100% worth it. I can't say enough about this experience. Next time, we're leveling up to the fatty tuna and Wagyu experience on their special menu. That's the exact culinary peak we've been looking for, and incredibly, it's tucked inside a suburban strip mall. Absolutely brilliant.

Was recommended House of Japan by some friends for good hibachi and made a reservation for a Friday…read morenight. The reservation was for 6pm, we showed up around 5:50 and were sat right away but waited until about 6:20 to order and begin getting soups/salads. Personally I love the mushroom soup and ginger salad, it is SALTY (which I love) but may be too much for others. As for the hibachi part, the cook does a fun show with all the staples - big fire, onion volcano, tossed rice in our mouths! He was very nice and we had a fun time! I ordered the strip and shrimp with fried rice and asked for the strip medium. The portions were HUGE and the food just kept coming. Fried rice, veggies, and shrimp were very yummy but also very salty (no complaints from me!). The strip was definitely more on the rare side which is not my preference but there was so much food it wasn't a huge deal. I had also ordered a tea with my meal and the servers were very attentive with the tea and water giving plenty of refills. For two people, including drinks, we thought the total price was pretty decent for a night out! Overall it was good service, good food, and a fun night! They do use TONS of butter and soy sauce so be cautious if you have a sensitive stomach but I would recommend for a fun dinner night spot!

There were highs and there were lows. The bottom line is we walked out full and satisfied…read more Multiple mistakes were made. Chipped cup that almost killed a man. Another man was served filet instead of strip steak. Random chair was in bathroom (strip club mint style). The mistakes were corrected. Comped the bottle of sake. Man got strip steak and filet. Lotta meat. Chair might still be in bathroom but not a big deal. Nice to see scallops on the menu. The group took advantage of that. Where are they from? Local ? Farm raised? The birthday boy got a delicate dish of orange sorbet. Great cleanser. This restaurant thrives on adversity and culture. Will be back next year most likely. "If you're not correcting mistakes, they will most likely occur in a bigger way"

I bought two rolls and they were no where near as fresh or good quality as the other reviews lead…read moreyou to believe. The smoked salmon pieces were very suspicious. They were not a consistent bright pink, looked like the salmon was old. The imitation crab on the Ohio roll was very low quality and did not taste good. I'd rather drive to an actual sushi restaurant. The service was good, I think that's the only thing they have going for them.

Other people praise the sushi burrito so I got that. They make it right there in front of you, and you can choose the sushi (or beef.) I got tuna, and it was actually very fresh, buttery, with a nice flavor. And, that plus rice and your choice of veggies forms up into a hefty, tasty burrito. I also got an Ohio roll, crab and cream cheese, etc., which they have prepackaged along with other things that look like the sushi you could get it a grocery store. It was also pretty good, and, surprisingly, reasonably priced. And a beef bowl, again made in front of you, with whatever sauce and veggies you want. Again, tasty, filling, possibly even healthy. Don't worry, I didn't eat it all at once. I had a little before work, and then the rest for lunch and breaks at work. Good quality, good flavor, decent prices, friendly service, and convenient. And even maybe fairly healthy. I'm sold.
