I want to give special recognition to Catherine in Asset Protection at Nordstrom South Coast Plaza. I had lost a pair of very sentimental black-and-white scalloped sunglasses that belonged to my late mother. They are irreplaceable to me, and I was incredibly upset thinking they might be gone for good. Catherine treated the situation with real care and urgency. After I spoke with her, she reviewed the video footage right away. She found me on the footage, confirmed the time I was in the store, and saw the key detail that solved everything: I had walked out of Nordstrom with the sunglasses on my head. Because Catherine caught that detail, I realized the glasses were not lost at Nordstrom and had to be at my next stop. I called Free People Movement in Marina del Rey, and they had them. I got them back. Catherine's professionalism, patience, and attention to detail made all the difference. She didn't dismiss the situation. She helped me figure out what actually happened, and because of her, I was reunited with something that meant a great deal to me. I have been a Nordstrom customer for many years, and people like Catherine are exactly why Nordstrom has always stood out to me. Please make sure she and her managers know how grateful I am. She was extraordinary. read more

Truly amusing how wide of a range one can experience in customer service on a single visit at this Nordstrom. (It was consistently this wildly different during each of my last 6 visits or so.) Some of the associates are extremely helpful, genuinely amiable and make every customer feel valued (today, that was Mimi, from the Trends section on the 2nd floor). She asked about my day, quickly and kindly helped with my transaction and left me with a smile. Unfortunately, just prior to working with Mimi, I had attempted to request help from an associate at the Reformation section, to no avail. Initially, I noticed an associate chatting with other customers while behind the counter (this was around 1:30 pm on a Saturday) and the associate, Julie (I believe), asked me to wait a minute because she would be right back. After waiting at the counter for several minutes I lost hope and went over to another counter. Later, when I came back around I saw the aforementioned associate ringing up other customers at a nearby counter. I'm not one to make presumptions, but it did come across as if the associate cared more about increasing her immediate sales volume than actually assisting customers. At the very least, it would be nice if she had kept her word after telling a customer she'd be "right" back instead of ghosting them. Overall, I would give 5 stars to half of the employees here and 1 to the other half. Consistency is key! read more

This is a specific review for the fragrance department at Nordstrom Costa Mesa. Thank you to Monica Polanco at Tom Ford beauty. Monica was very courteous and attentive and was attentive to the smallest details that discerning customers would notice. I am not that discerning but I appreciate the thoughtfulness. I bought a 50 mL Tom Ford OUD WOOD fragrance. I like it so much I will get the 100ml if it's in stock next time. read more

With SAKS OFF outlet out of business, Nordstrom got all the extra business, good for them. I love this store as it's huge and has everything I love especially the SHOE DEPT for this shoe queen! LOL! it's my OCD, I have boxes of shoes I have not even opened! The discount is deep so their inventory is about 5x the store in Huntington Beach but I go to the HB store bc it's closer to where i go to dine in Bella Terra mall. I'm flattered they recognized that I am an influencer on social medias w over 12,000 followers not counting another 9,000 or more on You tube so they gave me $250 worth of alteration, unfortunately last year they canceled that privilege, the $250 would only apply to the main store, who can afford the ridiculous cutthroat pricing they have in the main store. They also close the alteration dept to move it to the HB store then they close it there to move my favorite tailor to Irvine so I took away 1 star. It's annoying all the sunglasses are locked up, all the cosmetics and perfume too but it's not their fault, it's Gruesome fault and I hope people remember this comes November. Come here for swimsuits too, I keep on buying more swim suits even though I cannot swim, well my upcoming trip to VN will have me on a boardwalk hotel in Danang w a terrace so I bought 2 more swimsuit, they are always up to 60% discount. read more

I stopped in to exchange a cologne and was greeted in the fragrance section by an associate named Drew. She was intentional and wanted to know specific details about why I was shopping for a new fragrance with interest on why the fragrance I was exchanging didn't work out. After searching through various fragrance houses we finally narrowed down the two contenders. This is when Drew suggested to spray one on my left arm and the other on my right and walk the mall for 20-30min then come back(something I did not do when I purchased the previous fragrance). That idea worked out great, I was able to confidently narrow down which I liked most and why. The exchange was no problem at all and I felt better about what I walked out with today. I ended up leaving with a Parfum de Marly fragrance after exchanging an Amouge, all thanks to Drew's help and patience. read more

The ultimate people's department store. You will get the best service, and highest quality items here, without the insane prices as the insanely expensive stores that are here at this mall. We love the little coffee shop right at the entrance too. SKIMS is now sold here, and there are some at lowered after Christmas sale prices this weekend. They can also personalize any sowable item at their sowing machine station by the escalators. read more

My go to. Never fails. The sales the women shoe department. Great for last minute gifts and outfits.

Awful experience in the Men's Shoe Department. I shop here a lot, and usually the service is excellent. Never had a problem. I know many sales people in many departments. Went to Men's Shoes (upstairs) to buy Birkenstocks for my boyfriend. No one approached me, or helped for around 15 minutes. I was looking for someone to get me a size. Two employees, named Chanel and Stone, were standing around talking, doing nothing. When I started approaching them, they quickly dispersed (Chanel went behind the counter, not sure about Stone). So I waited in line, holding the shoe I wanted in my hand, still no one helped me find a size. Finally, Chanel asked if I needed something rudely. I told her the size I needed and she sent Stone to the back. When he returned with the shoes, I told him I would take them downstairs to Juan (because he has helped me before) so he could get the credit. Stone was angry about this, making exaggerated annoyed expressions and acting confused. He took my shoes behind the counter and taped a piece of paper with his name and employee number on it--obviously desperate for commission. After that, my mom and I calmly walked downstairs with the shoes. When we got to Women's Shoe Department (where Juan works), there was already a commotion and people approaching us from different directions. I overheard employees saying that Chanel and Stone were calling from upstairs--again, desperate. Like sharks. Everyone seemed panicked. Finally, I got to Juan and told him what happened, explaining that I wanted to give him the commission since everyone in Men's Shoes ignored us. He looked at me and chuckled rudely, saying "But who helped you?" I told him no one did and he kept laughing and telling me that's "not how it works" and that he was "sure someone had helped me" upstairs. Obviously, they had already told him the situation--and, when we got to the counter, he called Men's Shoes and was asking for Stone's employee number even though I told him I did not want to give him the credit. He kept laughing at me, saying I should have gotten him to go upstairs if I wanted to give him the commission--it's not my fault that I didn't know the procedure. But he was laughing rudely and treating me like I was stupid. When my mom called Men's Shoes later asking for the manager, Stone must have recognized her voice and asked if we were the one with the Birkenstocks. She again simply just asked to speak with the manager. He refused to transfer her and kept saying things like "But what did I do? What did i do wrong?" I ended up returning and rebuying the shoes with a friend who works at Mission Viejo location. Unacceptable behavior and horrendous experience. read more

I went to Nordstrom to make a return and to check out what's on their anniversary sale. The first associate that I asked for a size on a shoe that I wanted to try on...well, she left and came back empty handed. Said no size and didn't see any other sizes, black or brown. After walking around, I was approached by a young lady ( very tall). I asked for the size... well, what do you know, came back with the right size and color. There was a pair after all. Shout out to Amanda!!! She was such a good sales associate. I went home with that pair and another one my husband liked. read more

Nordstrom South Coast Plaza - Two pairs of shoes from Nordstrom So Coast. - Department Stores Near Me - Costa Mesa, California

I've been a longtime customer and have always had great experiences at this store, which made this visit especially disappointing. My daughter and I went to the Men's Shoe Department to buy Birkenstocks (for her boyfriend). We waited about 15 minutes without anyone offering assistance while two employees, Chanel and Stone, stood talking. When we finally asked for help, the interaction felt dismissive and rude. After Stone brought out the shoes, my daughter said she wanted to purchase them through a salesperson who had helped us in the past. Stone seemed visibly annoyed and insisted on attaching his employee information to the shoes for commission. When we went downstairs, employees already seemed aware of the situation. The salesperson we asked for--Juan--laughed at my daughter, dismissed her concerns, and insisted the commission would go to the Men's Shoe employee despite our poor experience. I was very disturbed by his behavior. The entire interaction felt unprofessional and embarrassing. Later, when I called to speak with a manager, Stone recognized the situation and repeatedly (and maniacally) questioned me instead of simply transferring my call. We ultimately returned the shoes and repurchased them through another Nordstrom employee at a different location. This was an extremely disappointing experience, and the customer service we received was unacceptable. read more

After months of internal debate, I finally decided to book a styling appointment here. I'd significantly purged my closet and needed a major wardrobe overhaul. The appointments are complimentary but of course they do expect you do buy a few things (which I did) and I was pretty wowed by the customer service. Before I even arrived, my stylist Hannah had texted me to ask what I was looking for, brands I like, etc. I liked that she seemed to actually care and tailor my visit to my preferences, not just what's trendy or what she liked. When I arrived, she had pulled at least 10-15 fully put together looks including shoes and accessories. What I appreciated about Hannah is that she listened to my feedback and didn't judge. She walked this very fine line between being attentive without being overbearing and giving me space to try things on alone so I didn't feel pressured to like every single thing she picked out. But, when I had questions or needed additional sizes she was there to support. I refreshed my wardrobe and ended up with lots of pieces I love as well as a sense of the brands that suit my lifestyle, preferences, comfort, and body type. I was also able to get a free alteration on some jeans that were a little too long (huge win for a petite girl like me). Looking forward to working with her and exploring more of what Nordstrom has to offer in the future! read more

DO NOT COME HERE FOR ALTERATIONS! I booked an appointment online for 2:45 pm on Friday June 19. I arrived at 2:40 and was told to put on the pants I wanted altered. I did and waited for 30 minutes. There seemed to only be one tailor in the store on a Friday afternoon. Ridiculous for a large establishment such as Nordstrom. Not once did anyone check in on me or give me an update with how long I would need to wait. At 3:15 I changed back into my clothes and left. What's the point of making an appointment if I'm not seen in a timely manner or acknowledged by a tailor? I will be taking my service elsewhere and am incredibly dissapointed by the lack of communication and service at this store. read more

No wonder why us customers buy everything online nowadays, it's such a shame what Nordstrom has become! I used to love coming here (years ago) but lately I've noticed the staff that works here couldn't care less about customer service, they seemed sooooo annoyed! I just wanted to do a quick return and the girl seemed that I was bothering her... like huh is your job! Not mine. Also I hate coming out of the store smelling like I just added a perfume bottle, maybe clean the air inside (not sure if they have hvac going on or air purifier) but it's always hot and smells so much like perfume. Anyways I would avoid coming here if you want to make a return :):) read more

The amazing Customer Service that Nordstrom is known for seems to be slipping over the years! It's like the new younger sales associates didn't read the memos, stories or emails about the Wow factor! We parked outside Nordstrom and both coming and going didn't get approached, acknowledged or greeted. We walked through the show department, sunglasses and fragrance and nothing! So on we went to the new Guerlain store and dropped $800 and then on to other stores for holiday shopping! I guess thanks Nordstrom for the parking spot- disappointed and maybe I might shop online- sorry no commission to your sales team read more

I was there for online return. At level 3, I went to one register, the lady said any registers can help me with online return but didn't intend to assist. Went to another register, the man told me the same thing, any registers can help me with online return. I didn't bother to ask him if he can help. Because I thought maybe I was at wrong floor wrong section therefore no one wanted to help. I was return women item so I should go to that brand. Finally at level 2 I found it where all the jeans are. This was my 3rd attempt! 3 ladies were there and looked like they were doing something. One lady said someone will be right with you. This long hair Asian lady came didn't say even anything, and I saw screen pop up asking for my phone number. I told her I only registered with email. She impatiently asked for my order number. I can tolerate all these attitude. But when she scanned my item and kept telling me it didn't match her system multiple time implying I was trying to return a wrong item, made me write this review. I wished I got her name! In the end, it was her error and she didn't even apologized. It wasn't a busy day but I honestly do not want to go back or shop in this location. Normally, I have great experiences at Nordstrom, but unfortunately that hasn't been the case at this location. I usually go to the Brea or Mission Viejo stores, but I came to the Costa Mesa location for some alterations. I have the Nordstrom card, which includes a $200 alterations benefit, and I brought in three pairs of jeans that I had purchased from Nordstrom Rack. The alterations associate asked if I had purchased them from Nordstrom. I told her they were from the Rack, and she said alterations would be $25 per pair--which was fine since I had the benefit. She also mentioned that if they had been purchased at that store, they would have been complimentary. No problem, I understood. When she pulled up my Nordy Club account, she saw that I had the $200 alterations credit and confirmed it applied. When I went to check out, the sales associate told me the total would be $80 with tax for the three jeans. I let her know I had the alterations credit, and she told me that I needed to pay with my Nordstrom card and I would be reimbursed afterward. Again, no issue--I paid with my Nordstrom card. A week later, I picked up my pants and checked my Nordstrom account and card statement. No reimbursement. I contacted customer service, and they informed me that these items does NOT qualify for reimbursement due to being Rack items. I explained the entire store experience, and they told me I needed to contact the store directly. I called the store, spoke with customer service, and was told I needed to speak with the alterations manager. When I finally reached her, the experience was honestly terrible. After explaining everything, she made excuses--saying one of the associates only works weekends. I'm sorry, but how much someone works shouldn't affect whether they know store policies. In the end, she told me there was nothing she could do. Nothing. I was stunned. I requested a call back from the store manager and have yet to hear anything. For a company known for excellent customer service, this has been an incredibly disappointing and frustrating experience at this location. read more

This is by far one of the best (and largest) Nordstrom's locations in the area so it's my go-to shopping spot- especially if you're on the hunt for something new. Today I came looking for a new fragrance. It's been 20 years using the same things and when I met George at Le Labo I had to make a comment here that EVERYONE needs a George in their life when it comes to a shopping adventure. Although George is incredibly well versed in all things Le Labo, he's also a genuine enthusiast of fragrances so he pointed out several new choices from other brands based on the notes that I preferred as we walked around the store (going beyond his duties at Le Labo in the search for something that best suited me). I always greatly appreciate when people go above and beyond but most importantly, when they're not just trying to sell for the sake of selling. Nordstrom is great for that, even though most (if not all) employees are commissioned based. You wouldn't know that based on the feelings you get from their employees which is why I choose Nordstrom when it comes to department stores; especially at SCP. It's experiences like this (thanks George!) and countless others that I love Nordstrom's and don't understand how Nordstrom could get less than 5 stars. If you happen to get hungry, I also highly recommend their cafe. read more

Very Disappointing & Misleading Customer Service I've been a longtime Nordstrom customer and always believed their customer service was one of the best--until this experience. Before wearing the shoes, I called Nordstrom customer service directly and explained that I might need to exchange them after wearing them once. I was clearly told over the phone that an exchange would be allowed. Based on that assurance, I wore the shoes one time. When I went into the store to exchange them, I was suddenly told the exchange was not allowed because the shoes were worn. This completely contradicted what I was told by customer service and left me stuck with shoes I would not have worn had I been given accurate information. This feels misleading and unfair, especially coming from a company that prides itself on customer care. If the policy is strict, customers should be told the truth upfront--not given false reassurance that leads to a loss. Very disappointed and frustrated. This experience has definitely changed how I view Nordstrom. read more

I love Nordstrom (honestly, who doesn't?), but I've had some challenges with this location. I love the curbside pickup option, but have ordered items on multiple occasions expecting them to be ready by a certain date and three times I've had issues - twice the items weren't ready (just says "preparing for pickup") and once I got the notification less than one hour before closing (technically that's on the day, but seriously?). Furthermore, I'm grateful that Nordstrom is dog-friendly, but I experienced some discrimination when trying to make a return. A salesperson actively avoided helping me, and then made every attempt to pass me along to another employee (who ended up being on the phone during my entire transaction, even once I left). The initial employee begrudgingly helped me, barely saying a word. I was surprised given Nordstrom's reputation for customer service (and even more surprised because the employee's name tag showed that they had been with the company for over 10 years). I wish that they had communicated that they weren't comfortable with dogs, I would have understood. With all that said, this is my closest location but I'm considering making the switch to Fashion Island as my go-to Nordy. Hoping that this location will make some changes for the better! read more

Today 6/11/2023, I stopped by this Nordstroms to return a Tory Burch (TB) purse and a pair of Nikes. I returned the TB purse because it was too small. Sharon suggested another TB in the same unique color, but it was bigger and it's on sale. I was able to purchase the new TB purse online with the assistance of Sharon and also a MCM purse that was on sale. I don't shop at this Nordstroms as much since it's not nearby and do most of my shopping online. The customer service I received today from Sharon was definitely Top Tier. We were down in the area for a baseball game and decided to shop around at South Coast Plaza after brunch at Din Tai Fung. I'm 6 months pregnant and my husband and I wanted to look at strollers at Nordstrom. I've been leaning toward the Nuna Mixx Next stroller and we wanted to test it out and maybe try comparable strollers. Upon entering the baby section we were ignored and not greeted. The sales associate was helping another couple with the stroller we wanted to look at so we decided to just look around ourselves, thinking someone would help us when they were free, as we were clearly looking at strollers. Mind you there was another sales associate in this area as well who never greeted us either. I finally stood near the cash register waiting to be helped and the original sales associate asked if I needed something. I said yes and asked if they had the model of stroller that I wanted to look at. She said "yes it's right here," and pointed at the empty frame that the other couple had been looking at. I then tried to ask her questions about it and she gave very short abrasive answers, not offering any additional information or asking what we were looking for. She showed me how it folded down after I asked her and that's about it. I felt like I was inconveniencing her by asking to look at the product that she is paid to sell. Anyways, I was really disappointed with this experience, as stroller shopping with my husband was something I was really looking forward to. We went across the bridge to Pottery Barn Baby where we had a much more pleasant experience. Don't come to this location expecting helpful or friendly sales associates.
