I visited Precious Closet on a cousin's recommendation while searching for Vietnamese traditional dress (áo dài). Since it was the tail end of Lunar New Year, the selection wasn't as large as usual, but we still found beautiful áo dài that each of us loved. I went there to buy an ao dai, and although it was busy (which I understand since tet is coming up), I found the service very unprofessional. I handed them three ao dai to try on, but they kept skipping my name and helping other customers first. This happened three times. Each time I asked, they told me I was next, but then they skipped me again. It felt like they were only prioritizing their Asian clientele. As a Hispanic brown woman, I've never felt so unwelcome in a store before. I ended up going to a different shop near the plaza and received completely different, much better treatment. I heard of this place through a couple friends and loved their designs online. I was scrambling for a place that might still be open and have available, cute ao dais and luckily Precious Closet was open! Most ao dai places are hard to find, tucked away in a mall with horrible traffic and terrible parking, but Precious Closet was super easy to locate and had plenty of parking. I've been ao dai shopping before and as a muscular woman, it is often so difficult to find styles that look good and fit. This is where Precious Closet surprised me because I could easily tell from the moment I walked in that there were styles and sizes of such variety that plenty of different body types could find something that not only fits but accentuates their features. I don't know what kind of magic was on their racks but I picked 3 pieces that caught my attention immediately and were somehow PERFECTLY my size. When I tried them on, I was blown away by how they fit. I'm a big shouldered girl with a muscular build and I was worried that I would rip their dresses because Vietnamese sizing is very small. Instead, I found several pieces that accentuated my shoulders, fit my body and made me feel beautiful. The staff was overwhelmingly, nice and helpful even though my Vietnamese is not great. They helped me find everything I needed and even helped me try on my ao dai and gave helpful feedback about whether I should alter them or what combo pants I can try. The owner rung me up (THE DRESSES ARE SO UNBELIEVABLY AFFORDABLE) and shared with me how she designed these dresses herself and specifically tailored them to include Asian American women because she knows how small Vietnamese sizing can be and how difficult it is for Asian American women to find clothing that fits them. She even mentioned that if you contact her early enough, she can help find the right sizing for you or create pieces with your dimensions in mind so that you have options when you visit the store. After speaking with her it's clear that the owner/designer deeply cares about making people feel beautiful in her designs and including as many body types as she can for the modern Asian American. Sometimes being Asian American feels like being trapped in a time capsule, holding onto tradition out of fear of losing touch with our roots. I feel even more connected to my culture by getting a piece of a more modern Vietnam, a newer look and style from the homeland brought here. I bought all three pieces and I cannot wait to come back for her future designs and I'll definitely be bringing all of my girlfriends here too! read more

I was looking for a last minute ao dai for a party and my sister recommended coming to Precious Closet after seeing that they offer more than your traditional ao dai designs. I decided to go out of my way and come here after work because I really didn't want to go into the Bolsa area haha. They're in a small plaza near the Mokkoji in GG. I came when they were closing and had no idea as their hours on yelp stated they were open for a few more hours. Regardless, everyone was so sweet. They measured me twice because they didn't want me to make the mistake of purchasing the jncorrect size. They let me stay and frantically shop as I felt bad once I found out they were closed. I wanted to give a huge shout out to the owner. I didn't catch her name unfortunately, but she is amazing. Even though fitting rooms were closed she let me try on a top because I wasn't convinced that it wouldn't fit (she was right, I didn't fit LOL). She told me about her 7 year design and business journey and her passion to bring new designs to consumers. They don't try to upsell or push you here and I feel like the prices are fair. They're only open for lunar new year (tet) and start selling five weeks prior so come early! I happen to come across this place from TikTok and it was perfect timing because I wanted to look for new Ao Dai for lunar near coming up really soon and when I saw the video, there were cute things that I saw and one I really really liked. I went on a Sunday morning 30 minutes after it opened and oh boy did TikTok blow it up! It was crowded with everyone in the store looking for an Ao Dai.
