Please AVOID HIRING NORDIC SERVICE and save yourself a lot of grief and frustration when dealing with this iNCOMPETENT COMPANY!!! In October 2016 there was a wire fault in my gas insert which caused a house fire. The fireman responded immediately and my home sustained minimal damage. The year prior, I had a new roof and the roofing company repaired the area the firemen had to break into. My insurance company, Travelers, recommended Nordic Services to restore the one damaged small wall and replace the fireplace. It seemed like a fairly simple job, they did their estimate and said it should take 3 months. That seemed like a generous time estimate but I accepted it as I know construction companies are busy. Gordon informed me my existing gas insert model was no longer available so gave me a website of a different manufacturers insert to choose one. I was not given a recommended fireplace store to visit or any guidance other than a website and one can not choose a fireplace from a website. The manufacturer of my previous insert was still in business but his sub was not a dealer for them so this wasn't even given to me as an option. At this time the Nordic contractor began framing for the new insert before I had even made a choice which I questioned him about. He relayed to me that the main office told him to proceed with the framing. I did not find an insert that I liked on the supplied website, so, on my own initiative, I visited a fireplace store where I was educated about fireplaces. I learned that I could not place a gas insert into a wall and that I actually needed a 'zero clearance', which were larger than gas inserts. I immediately phoned Nordic from the store and asked them if they had any idea about the difference between gas inserts and zero clearance and that I could not put a gas insert in a wall. My insurance company had even done the estimate for a zero clearance but Nordics lack of competency was beginning to show, when I had to educate them on the difference. That prior framing had to be taken out and reframed for a second time according to the papers with the zero clearance I picked up from the fireplace store. Many months beyond the 3 month estimate the framing had to be replaced for a third time due to the zero clearance having to be elevated off the floor due to increased heat output. During the installation of the stone veneer I pointed out to the masons that it did not look straight, they continued and the finished job looked very amateur. I had the owner of Nordic, Louis, come to check the quality of the work and he told me it was the best they could do as stone is not perfect, you can not get a perfect job. I was not asking for perfect but as long as this job was taking and for the cost they were charging I was expecting it to be at least straight with no large obvious gaps. My impression was that Louis wanted to wrap the job up as it had been going on for way too long so he did not offer any alternative to satisfy my discontent of the incompetent work. I just wanted the job done correctly, I realize masonry is an art and I was not seeking perfection, I just wanted the veneer straight. After my insurance adjustor came and viewed the work and he shared that he could have done a better job, he contacted Nordic. They acquiesced and had one of their better masons come and redo the veneer. This should have been offered to me initially, with everything this company had put me through! There as absolutely NO CUSTOMER SERVICE; Gordon M. yelled at me and hung up on me when I was trying to help him by doing the leg work with the fireplace store and insurance company. He later phoned me back and apologized as he was frustrated with how long this job was taking. Seriously, he had no idea the frustration I was dealing with in dealing with this incompetent company!!! Every time the subs came did work in my home, they did not clean up after themselves, there was dirty boot prints, dust and dirt all over the floors, yet on the invoice they charge a clean up fee. For what exactly, I am not sure. I came home numerous times and found my door left unlocked from the subs as well as a few things missing. The ending invoice had charges for things that were not actually done. The electrical passed code but I can no longer plug a vacuum into the wall socket, which I understand is not a Nordic issue but adds to my frustration. I should have initially researched Nordic more thoroughly but I had trusted my insurance company recommendation. At the end, my Travelers Insurance agent said he will no longer recommend Nordic. I normally don't write reviews but I had the most BEYOND FRUSTRATING, UNHAPPY EXPERIENCE with this company that I found UNPROFESSIONAL. I believe other potential clients &/or insurance agents need to be aware of NORDIC SERVICES INCOMPETENCE. AVOID FOR MANY REASONS! PLEASE READ! We made a big mistake by choosing them. We had some tree damage last Spring and couldn't find a contractor that could start for several months. Nordic said they could do the restoration and a kitchen remodel we wanted. I did some research and noticed they were not rated very high, management sold us on they could do the job. Our first bid was reasonable, but then we agreed on some changes and the second bid was almost double. We were perplexed, so we started to audit the bid before we signed it. We had told Nordic that we already had appliances, several times, but they tried charged us for them. We also found several duplicate items in the bid, David Omli President of Nordic said these were simple mistakes! After cleaning these up, they submitted another bid, that had more duplicate items.We never signed the final bid due to continuous mistakes. They are very expensive, there is a 30% markup on every item. They also don't provide any help on selecting items such as floors, roof materials, and so on. It's a trust us we know what we are doing, we've been doing it for 30 years mentality. We had a new roof put on, they dropped off a shingle sample board, told us to pick a color, that's it. We didn't know quality, warranty, price, why choose this over that? Same with our cabinets. Also estimates for subcontractors were extremely high, we had two bids for electrical from Nordic for the kitchen $17,400 and $13,500(after making them get another bid). After those I had two electricians give me a bid and they averaged $7,500. When we confronted management on these issues, we received long winded and derogatory responses. There were times where we would go weeks without a response. Once we fired them, it took them almost 2 months for them to respond.
