I hate leaving bad reviews for businesses but you should be fully aware before booking this place. I chose lion and bear moving because they were decently priced, had pretty good reviews, owner was responsive and most importantly they were available on the date that I needed. The day before I got a phone call to confirm which was nice but the person on the other end kept insisting that I send them photos of everything so they knew what they were getting into for the next day. I told them I was still packing so it wouldn't really make sense to send photos of boxes so I sent them photos of all the furniture they would be moving (even though I explained this in written form). He kept insisting that I must send photos of all the boxes as well later that night (did I mention I was still packing?!). Anyway- day 2. Movers came last few minutes of timeframe which was fine but they asked me what all I needed to move. Ummm hello you have this in written form and from images I sent you. I told them EVERYTHING except for one shelf. They still kept asking multiple times which I was confused about. Anyway, when they were "done" I took another look around the house and asked them why they left so many things like plants, boxes and BOTH tv's?! They looked confused and went back and got the rest of the stuff. They took the tv's but left the wall mounts. When I asked why they left the wall mounts they said they couldn't take it off (which is not true because I did it myself after). When we arrived at the new house, they unpacked everything and I noticed the living room furniture was just sitting in the 1st floor entryway. I asked them to take it upstairs to the main living room and they said they couldn't because the hall was too narrow. I was extremely frustrated because it's obvious that it could fit but they were just in a rush. I begged them to give it another try and they said they tried several times and they couldn't (btw there was 3 of them). Long story short, they didn't place any of the boxes where I asked them to, didn't finish packing properly, couldn't move living room furniture because the "hallway was too narrow" which was all just excuses. I had to pay two other people to come move my furniture into the living room and they did it with ease. I don't know about you guys but if I'm paying for movers I expect them to do the job! read more

Charlie was quick to answer messages when I was requesting my quote and additional information. I expressed my desire for wrapping some of my furniture, an extra charge at other companies, but free with L&B. I decided to use them since it was included. They were professional and reliable all throughout the move. As we were finishing things up, I noticed a yellow stain on my sofa and the arms were a bit rubbed. The mover said sorry, but no guidance on what to do about it. I asked and he said tell Charlie they damaged my furniture. I paid, and then messaged Charlie. I got left on read and had to message again 3 days later. We then exchanged messages, he offered $50. I asked how he came to that number and I haven't heard back. It's now been 8 days and I'm forced to find alternative options for remediation. I recommend paying a bit more for another service. read more

I've never left a bad review, but our experience with Lion & Bear was so terrible that I'm hoping to spare others' time and money - use Bookstore! We had an incredibly disappointing experience with Lion and Bear for our move from DC to NYC. In loading our Pod, they left two closets worth of heavy items out. Beyond that, they packed incredibly inefficiently and hastily - our movers in NYC kept inquiring who we used because "you had the worst movers we've ever seen." Our move was ultimately delayed over 6 hours because of their poor use of space and lack of care/attention, and many of our items were bent and broken. Had a small move in my house that required 30 minutes but needed professionals. Called around to multiple companies but they were all astronomical. Lion & Bear came in with far and away the best quote for a professional team. They were courteous and professional through the whole process. Two big guys showed up and did exactly what was required quickly and efficiently. They were careful of my house and belongings. The team at Lion and Bear are very unresponsive. They DAMAGED OUR WALLS IN OUR NEW HOME. We received 2 movers for a 1 bedroom apartment. They started at 2PM and did not finish until close to 11PM. We originally requested 3 movers but the management pressured us into 2 movers saying that's all that would be needed and increased the price over $100 per hour. We eneded up paying nearly $800 for a 1 bedroom mover. We've never paid more than $500 for movers. The team damaged our walls and at first the management said they would fix, but stopped answering our calls and emails. We are still trying to get our walls fixed and it has been over a month! Love these folks! They're prompt and attentive to all of my many concerns from when I first asked to hire them to all of my changes with my moving. They changed dates and added in another location for more stuff easily. The confirmation was easy and detailed. The movers arrived early and were prepared and ready to go. I asked them to help moving in March. It was a disaster. 1. They didn't do the packing as they promised. It was only myself who packed everything and the only thing they did was to sell me some moving boxes for extra money. They still asked money for the time we spent on packing things during which they were partly waiting and occasionally moving a stuff or two to the elevator. 2. I have a fragile wardrobe and that's why I chose a moving company who claimed to protect the furnitures during move, but they told me they can't promise to preserve the wardrobe when I showed it to them. It was broken into pieces in the end. They also scratched my wooden table which was very sturdy. I didn't see the scratch until they leave, and when I saw it, I realized they didn't wrap the table with blankets or did any protection. I was not able to spare time for this comment until now, but I'm still feeling terrible about what I have experienced. When the moving finished and we were talking about the broken wardrobe, the movers told their boss that the wardrobe was already broken at the time before moving, the dishonest of which really shocked me. They were very rude to my furnitures. Because they are two strong men in front of me a slight women, I felt pressure and didn't pay much less money than they want. But the truth is they broke the wardrobe because they didn't protect the furniture as they advertised at all, not only because my wardrobe was in fragile state. Horrible experience. DO NOT USE THEM. Very careless handling. Damaged my furnitures and lost items. Very bad attitudes from both the mover and the owner. After showing movers damages on furniture, movers rage left without returning pieces they removed from furniture. Owner said I had to talk to their insurance and gave an hour rate reduction (which does not compensate the full lost). Later said I could not file for insurance because I was given the discount. Mind you, best case scenario, their basic insurance pays 60 cents per pound. Better find yourself a trusted moving company that's responsible for training their man then cry about the lost. read more

This moving company was easy to book and very affordable. The movers were pretty good but took a surprisingly long time. They definitely slowed down a lot. Towards the end of the moving I got into the truck myself to get things moving a bit faster. If my family had not have helped this would have taken 5 hours for a one bedroom apartment move. A few items were damaged in the move. One of our white ikea lockers was stratched on its side. The water bottle holder of our peloton bike was broken off, our brand new floor was significantly scratched as was a windowsill and window pane. I emailed them about this and they have been extremely slow to respond and frankly not interested in actually helping. They claimed that they cannot send a claim to their insurance because it would be immediately rejected but they would cover the wood scratches themselves with paint. As if painting over a new wood floor with anything in one section is a solution. Cannot reccomend, especially if you are moving into a new home and value the cost of your personal belongings. read more

Absolutely loved working with these guys! We had a move that involved elevators, stairs, and large furniture and these men handled everything beyond our expectations. Domonique was the lead mover and he was not only incredibly friendly and personable, but he took every extra step to make sure that our furniture was secure and had the least likelihood of being damaged in the move. Additionally, the move was quick! Even though they were careful in moving things and took their time, they didn't waste time, either, which we really appreciated. Though I hope we don't move again in the near future, I would definitely recommend these guys and use them again. I had 2 movers help move my half of a 1-bedroom apartment. The company communicated well with me throughout the day, and it took the two men 4 hours to complete the job from my apartment to my storage unit. They were also the most reasonably priced movers in the area, by far. They also treated my items with respect, which I appreciated. Not sure if they have any bigger trucks for larger moves, but my stuff from my apartment almost completely filled the truck they have. read more

Absolutely under no circumstance would I ever use this company again. If you care about your belongings and then actually moving all of your belongings, select a different mover Details: Drivers smelled of extreme marijuana while moving our belongings. Improper size truck was sent, resulting in everything not getting moved. I still had to get help moving items. While movers were working I was handling business with our building and saw movers taking smoke breaks and not moving my belongings on time I was being charged for. Movers took so long to move items they did not have time to move items from a secondary location as agreed. Costing me time and money to have someone else do it. Several items were scratches in the move and packing tape was used in excess to wrap around drawers and random items to keep them closed instead of moving pads or a less destructive tape. Movers seemed unskilled and gave up on moving some items up or down stairs because they could not figure it out. We ended up having to do things ourselves later. Movers took apart the bed but did not set it back up because they were out of time. The 3 movers showed up on time and worked very hard and completed the entire move within the estimated time frame. The price was very reasonable and overall I was very happy with the service. On occasion one of the movers was a little bit careless and knocked walls with my furniture when exiting. He seemed new and could've used a little bit more training, but nothing was broken and he corrected his behavior after I brought it to his attention. These movers were great on my first move, but the second was horrific. Movers unbeknownst to me left my son's day bed in the loading dock off a Main Street while they ran to the apartment I was moving into and of course the bed was stolen. They offered a small discount, but replacing that bed which was less than a year old cost me more than the entire move itself and they would not pay for its replacement. We couldn't have asked for better service. They arrived on time and were eager to get started. After surveying what we had, they got straight to work loading up the truck. The prospect of a two-stop pick up didn't faze them. On top of all that, it rained through most of the day. They took extra care to cover the furniture in blankets to prevent them from getting wet. The two guys were soaked from the rain and didn't complain once; in fact they were more concerned with getting the floors wet. Basically, if I had to do it all over again, I would change absolutely nothing. They worked hard and wasted no time. My experience with Lion & Bear Moving was fine on balance in that my furniture and belongings got from my old apartment to my new apartment with minimal damage, but that's about it. If I had to do it again, I would've gone with a different company. Communication with Charlie/the company was fine in the beginning, but then horrendous after I got the quote and confirmed the move date with them. First, it took them days to respond to any emails/texts/calls. They refused to give me a time window for when the movers would arrive -- they only said "afternoon," which was entirely too vague since I needed to reserve the loading dock at my new apartment for a specific time window. The morning of move (10am) I still did not know when or IF the movers would arrive. It wasn't until I emailed with threats of a bad review did they respond *immediately* with the load time. The movers arrived on time, but tried to charge me more because my apartment was technically a two bedroom and not a one bedroom as I had claimed. However, the second bedroom was unoccupied so that's just where I stored the moving boxes. They tried to convince me that they needed a third person and a bigger truck. I was charged for this time spent deliberating and in the end, we barely filled 3/4 of the smaller original truck. When they were loading the truck, they left the door wide open when they went inside. I lived on a very busy street in Columbia Heights. I only noticed this was happening when I went outside and saw my TV sitting at the edge of the open truck, just asking to be carried off. Other than that, the movers were fine. Overall, the unacceptable level of communication made planning this move almost impossible. It caused so much unnecessary additional stress to an already stressful situation. This is a budget moving company. You get what you pay for. I wasn't expecting world class service, but I did expect the minimum, which was communicating basic information so that I could plan. If the communication had been better then I would've given this move 4 stars, but still would not recommend. There are better budget moving companies out there. read more

These guys are amazing! I'd give them 7 stars if I could. Not only were they efficient, fast, and gentle with my stuff- their estimate for 2 hours put them at the best price in town. And they actually got it done in under the 2 hours! I tipped an extra hour because they were so great, and the job would have easily taken another hour with lesser movers. True pros from beginning to end, they had masks on, and navigated the difficulties of my apartment building with ease. These guys are the real deal. Showed up right on time (to the earlier side of time window provided), worked hard with a complicated move and a long distance from loading dock to condo unit on the destination side but everything made it right on time and no issues. I NEVER leave ratings but I had to with this company. I'm not sure how this company has so many rave ratings. When they did my move, it was armature hour. The only competent experienced person was the foreman. We moved from a 2 bedroom place and it took 3+ hours longer than they told us (didn't have THAT much stuff), many our walls and floors were horribly scraped up in our new home (like dray wall dented) , and some of our belongs were so destroyed that we had to throw them out (our desk was beyond salvage as an example). We were so incredibly disappointed with our experience-- never using them again and recommend against them. read more

They were the best movers!!! They charged us HALF of what other guys wanted to charge us for a long-distance move from Washington to Charlottesville, VA. They came in masks and wore them the whole time. They disassembled my bed frame and put it back together at the new place. Even though it was a walk-up apartment, they did an amazing job and it went so quickly. I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more
