Renting a truck should be one of the simplest parts of moving, yet this location managed to turn it into an unnecessarily stressful ordeal through poor customer service, disorganization, and an attitude that made it seem like helping customers was an inconvenience.
The biggest issue was simply trying to schedule a rental. What should have been a straightforward process became a series of unanswered questions, inconsistent information, and unnecessary delays. Communication was either nonexistent or so vague that it left me with no confidence that my reservation was actually being handled correctly. Every interaction felt like I had to chase down basic information instead of receiving proactive assistance.
When I did manage to speak with employees, the customer service was disappointing from start to finish. Rather than treating customers with courtesy and professionalism, the staff often came across as indifferent, dismissive, and uninterested in resolving problems. Instead of listening to concerns or offering solutions, the attitude seemed to be, "That's just the way it is." There was little sense of urgency, empathy, or accountability, even though renting moving equipment is often part of an already stressful day.
What made the experience even worse was the apparent lack of organization. Scheduling seemed chaotic, and no one appeared to have clear answers about availability or timing. I was left feeling like I couldn't rely on the information I was being given, which is the last thing anyone needs when trying to coordinate a move. A business built around logistics should excel at organization, but this location fell far short of that expectation.
Customer service is about more than simply handing someone a set of keys. It's about communicating clearly, treating people with respect, and taking ownership when problems arise. Unfortunately, none of those qualities were evident during my experience. Instead, I encountered excuses, poor communication, and an overall lack of professionalism that reflected poorly on the business.
Perhaps the most disappointing part was the attitude displayed throughout the process. Mistakes and scheduling problems can happen anywhere. What separates a good business from a bad one is how those problems are handled. Here, it felt like customer concerns were brushed aside rather than addressed. I never got the impression that anyone genuinely cared whether my experience was positive or negative.
Moving is stressful enough without having to fight for basic customer service. I expected reliability, clear communication, and a willingness to help. Instead, I was met with confusion, poor scheduling, and an indifferent attitude that made the entire experience far more difficult than it needed to be.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend the U-Haul location in Garner, North Carolina. There are too many other businesses that understand the importance of treating customers with respect and delivering on their commitments. Until this location significantly improves its customer service, scheduling process, and overall professionalism, I would strongly encourage others to consider alternative moving truck rental options.
