His North River boat is the best laid out and designed jet boat I have ever fished out of. Extremely confortable and open design makes sure nothing interferes with getting your fish to the boat. Great top of the line tackle makes sure you are matched with the species you are chasing. Myself being left handed he even has the tackle diversity to offer my choice of which hand I want to reel with in both levelwind and spinning tackle. When fishing is tough he knows the secrets to give you the edge on the competition, many developed by him and also local history to keep the day interesting. Great for all ages male and female, he got my daughter hooked on fishing and that gives us something else to share throughout the future. He is honest about the quality of fishing and isn't just looking to take you for a boat ride. He realizes that makes repeat customers and so he can get really busy so book early especially during Salmon season. You can't go wrong and he is always my choice of a fishing guide.

My issue is with how I was treated after expressing understandable disappointment over a last-minute cancellation of a Father's Day charter that had significant emotional value and required planning around limited availability. After simply asking whether any alternate guides or solutions were available, I received a response stating they were "extremely disappointed" in me and implying I lacked empathy. As a paying customer, I believe it was reasonable to be disappointed and ask questions. Two things can be true at once: their guide suffered a tragic loss, and their handling of customer communication was unnecessarily defensive and unprofessional. I would have appreciated empathy and professionalism instead of being reprimanded for my reaction.

What I believe is most important in a guide, over just catching fish, is Darrin is SAFE and responsible. I trust him to guide on trips across any body of water with the most valuable person in the world to me; my son. That cant be said for all guides. With all of that said...Darrin is suburb at fishing all types of fish species across all types of water. He is patient with new anglers as well as kids. Starting as a new fisherman myself Darrin taught me the skills of Fly Fishing that I have developed over the many years of fishing with him. On top of that Darrin taught my son when he began fly fishing at the age of 12. We have caught more Steelhead, native trout, strippers and bass than I can count. I would highly recommend Darrin for any California, Oregon, Idaho fishing trips. I would not hesitate to contact him for any other trips or states you plan to fish solo or with your family. Darrin I'm happy to be used as a reference for any of your clients. Feel free to have them call me direct.
