Fabulous outfit right here. Spent a day with Bucko doing a walk and wade trip on the Pit and Burney Creek. Conditions were not ideal, with water higher than normal, coupled with a freak late season rain storm blowing in. Despite these challenges, Bucko put us on the fish and we had a great time. Fabulous instruction and a great personality, we couldn't have asked for more. Beyond the trip/day-of, Bucko and Anthony were awesome as well in terms of scheduling, logistics (discussing options around the rain and possible blown out rivers, etc). Would highly recommend, and indeed, I just booked a second trip with AC and Bucko for the fall. read more

Since I had such a great experience on my June 2021 outing with the 4 guides assigned to me by AC Fly Fishing, I had to return to the Fall River and the Lower Sac this fall. This trip - like the June trip - did not disappoint! While my 2nd visit to Fall River took place on a foggy, chilly day, it was nonetheless glorious though my guide John duly calibrated me on how Fall River residents might behave because of the change in seasons. Undeterred, we pressed on with two different rigs and awaited the bug hatch - any hatch. In the early hours of the day with juvenile trout taunting me, rising left and right where I wasn't, I managed to convince a couple of juveniles into John's net. When the bug hatch finally took shape about mid-day after temps reached the 50s, John found a run where the trout were cooperating and I managed to add to my scorecard - in spite of my lack of finesse. While we fished almost to last light, the ride back to the boat launch wasn't too shabby either as it treated me to terrific fall views of Burney Mountain, Mt Lassen, and Mt Shasta - all with early snows. My 2nd trip with AC Fly Fishing on the Lower Sac that same week was an E-ticket ride as well. In spite of an early start (0630 hrs!), a mild, rainy day in the fall is no excuse *not* to fish the Lower Sac! That early of a start ensures that you and your guide are well ahead of the armada of drift boats at this time of year since the trout are frenzy-feeding on salmon eggs.. With expert rigging by my guide Matt, I managed a double-digit quarry even though I had my share of "conservation releases" and a bunch of misses - all "my bad". Matt was super patient with me as I continue to learn how to mend on moving water from a drift boat and to discern the difference between a strike and the ticking of the bottom fly off river bottom. In all, both outings on this trip were very much "two thumbs way up." Given my continued positive experiences, I look forward to returning to the waters of the southern Cascades with AC Fly Fishing. read more

I really do not want to write this review. I booked this trip in April for June. I had an unexpected medical situation arise unexpectantly requiring surgery. Notified Matt immediately to change the date since I would be physically unable to fish or walk. Charged me $100 to change the date 30 days out even though I told him I wasn't 100% certain 30 days was enough time for me to physically recover. Fast forward today June 28 I called a full month prior to my July trip advising I would physically be unable to fly fish on the rescheduled date. So again he wanted to charge me another $100 change date fee. Tried to cancel so I could reschedule once I was physically unable to walk and fish. He said sure but I'm keeping the initial $100 reschedule fee plus your deposit. I asked Matt how would you feel if you were in my shoes? Matt said "I would feel upset like you do. But that's our policy. There is nothing I can do."WOW I run a small business and have had clients with deaths in their family or medical issues. I have always gone outside THE CONTRACT treating them like people with compassion and empathy issuing refunds because helping people in their time of need was far more important than profits!! . Matt clearly does not share that same sentiment. Beware!! read more

If you're ever thinking about going on a guided fly fishing trip, Anthony is your guy! He put me on massive fish all day...it was incredible. I had my first fly fishing experience with Anthony this weekend, he is an exceptional guide and I would highly recommend him to anyone. My boyfriend has been fishing for 16yrs and still learns a lot from him every trip (he's a repeat customer). I have so many good things to write that it's easiest to list them out: 1. He was very good at explaining everything. He teaches in a way that makes sense to someone who has never held a rod in their life as well as someone who is very experienced. 2. He was very patient. He responds to every question thoroughly and clearly (I ask a LOT of questions) and was never the slightest but irritated when he had to repeat something, had to fix my rod, help me with something, etc. 3. He was very respectful of the fish and the river. He was always mindful of our behavior so that we had an enjoyable experience without harming the beautiful area and it's aquatic residents. 4. I caught my first fish thanks to his expertise. I love fly fishing now and am grateful to have had this experience with Anthony as my guide. I intend on going out with him again someday and certainly will be fly fishing many more times in my life after this weekend :) read more

Matt Formento, our guide, spent 28 minutes on his phone, we had our lines in the water for a total of 11 minutes on a 6hr drift. This guy sucked all the fun and joy out of the entire day. He also needs a 15min warning before you need to go to the bathroom and he pouts every time he has to untangle a line. The drift seemed like more of an inconvenience than his job. He gave me the impression he was too good to drift with amateurs and has a hard time controlling his ego. I would give him a -5 stars rating if it were an option. We had to ride in his car to get back the launch site and he couldn't understand why neither of us would sit in the front with him. Typically, that means people can't stand you. read more

What a trip! My kids bought this trip for me as a Father's Day gift. Though I've fished for many years, this was my first fly fishing experience. Anthony is both an incredible guide and teacher of fly fishing. He has an easy going, friendly style. He has to be THE MAN on the Lower Sacramento River, taking us from hole to hole with consistent catches throughout the day. We both lost a few during the day, but caught at least as many. Going fishing with my long time friend John made me a little nervous given I was a beginner fly fisherman. I have always been an avid bait fisherman mostly in lakes and ocean. So I was hoping that our guide Anthony would be patient with my lack of fly fishing skills. John had used Anthony before and really liked him and said he was the best. Let me jump to the conclusion first. We caught tons of fish! I was amazed how patient and helpful Anthony was. He started with the basics in a way that didn't make me feel like an idiot. His attitude was alway positive and even. It was a learning process that effectively enabled me to catch beautiful rainbow trout right away. I have much to learn still, but Anthony was able to teach me enough for me to actually enjoy the catching and fully participate in the trip. Anthony's knowledge of the Lower Sacramento river was extraordinary I know his keen knowledge of the river greatly enhanced our fishing experience. He seemed to know all of the "secret" hiding places the fish were at. Also, he made the trip fun! All in all, I would say that the trip was a success. Thank you for an amazing first trip to the Lower Sacramento River Fishery. It is now in my top five floats which includes the San Juan in New Mexico.
