this cafe is in my neighborhood and so I've been wanting to try it for some time now. What a disappointment! What was the most off-putting for me was how rude the staff was. I was taken back by her snotty attitude! Secondary to that was how dirty the pants were on the girl preparing my coffee ... if I had to guess, I would say she had been wearing them for at least a week straight. I mean, visibly gross/soiled . Not just a "worn twice because everybody does this with their jeans" type thing. Third, their muffins are legit nasty. And finally, I was super disappointed to see that the in-store coffee menu is less than half what is shown online. I didn't even get to order what I had planned after viewing their menu online. Such a cute place with really great energy. The staff was super friendly and upbeat, and the service was very quick for a Friday morning. I got a build your own breakfast sandwich with a locally baked (score) garlic & herb English muffin with cheddar (vegan available), egg, and a veggie sausage. I don't go into a locally run establishment with the idea of posting a Yelp review. I'm not a professional critic, just some customer that wandered into the place at some point and after the fact decided to post a review on here. With that said, my review of Maude's is a bit different. Have to admit this upfront, I love my Starbucks. I guess one could say I'm a Starbucks addict. I went to Maude's for one reason, I wanted something different. Going to my local Starbucks has gotten stale and I have driven past Maude's for years with always the aspiration to check it out one day. So today was the day I would check out Maude's and I decided to do a live review, basically take notes of the experience while there. Not going to lie, I cheated a little. I had already seen Maude's website and Yelp/Facebook pages and got a good idea of what to expect when I would walk in. I understand that the original owner has retired and it's under new ownership. I read that some people were disappointed with some changes that went on when this happened but it is what it is and since I've never been here before then I have nothing to compare to or to comment on about that. Upon walking in I liked what I saw. I was a big fan of Luke's Diner on the show Gilmore Girls. The small coffee shop with an eclectic look and feel with a surly owner (better not use your cell phone!-GG reference). Maude's reminds me of Luke's Diner, without the surly owner. Maude's is a nice departure from the Starbucks of the world. There are other coffee shops in the area that share a similar feel but then there are others that seem to be geared towards a particular crowd (cough, hipster, cough). Maude's is not exactly located near any large corporate big building type businesses. I'm sure they get a good amount of traffic weekday mornings from neighborhoods in the area of people headed to work. During the day however I doubt they get a lot of business types who just got off the plane and wander in with their suitcase looking for a place to connect wifi and check their emails. It's near the airport but way too far from it to draw that kind of crowd. Around noon there was plenty of places to sit and a comfortable atmosphere but if you need power for your device you might want to scope out the seating before you settle in. I have to be honest, I like that they are not trying to provide a place for everyone to plug in. If your iPhone runs out of juice and you can't plug in, tough. Maybe you should charged it ahead of time. Sorry, my inner Luke just kicked in (another GG reference). As the afternoon moved along the place started to get more customers and its began to fill up and much busier. Where I was sitting I had customers literally standing just a few inches from me and I felt a bit uncomfortable, but it was temporary so no big deal, plus it was the only table closest to the counter so I guess that's going to happen from time to time. You sit anywhere else or even outside you will enjoy your time here. The only negative or ding I can give was that of my experience with my food order. It was given to me room temp. I asked to have it warmed and minutes later was presented back with it, never warmed. If they think they warmed it up then there is something wrong with their oven. Did the employee just take it back and let it sit and pretended to warm it up? Like at a car dealership when the salesman says he needs to talk to his boss about giving you a better deal. Mind you, the food item was delicious, tasted fresh and I would order again. Rumor has it that they have some kind of rewards program or something like that. I did not see any signage about such thing but I did hear many a customer give their phone number out. I was not offered or informed of such a thing. Places like this need the support of the community for the money goes into the pockets of the locals who run it and to the employees who could be your neighbors. I fully intend to return and support this establishment and if you are in the area you should stop by and check it out. read more

Absolute favorite coffee shop in Raleigh. I've been coming here almost a year now to work on remote projects of mine. The interior design is very DIY and reminiscent of a thrift store with every piece of furniture seemingly being plucked out of a different home catalogue. The drink selection is also very expansive with a handful of unique concoctions that are exclusive to NoRa. I mainly get Tea and/or Sparkling water but I know for a fact their Special Espresso drinks are tasty as well. The team working here knows me at this point, and they've always been extremely friendly. Definitely a safe space for LGBTQ folks as well which I love! read more

I've only had a few iterations of their iced coffee, but they've all been wonderful. Finding a quality cup of iced coffee isn't easy in this area so I'm glad I found a consistent shop. It also bodes well for the rest of their menu which my wife and I are looking forward to sampling when covid clears up a little more. A little pricey, but you actually get what you pay for and I'm very happy with that. read more

This is my local neighborhood coffee shop. I usually come in at least twice a week - the one day I work from home and during the weekend. My favorite drink of choice is the Killer Bee. An espresso coffee drink with chocolate and cayenne. The cayenne gives it a nice spicy kick. Once in awhile, I get a chocolate chip muffin also. The shop itself is unique where they also sell some garden decor. I usually get my drink to go but there's plenty of seating and quiet in the mornings compared to Starbucks which is a definite plus. Always looking forward to my visit to Maude's. read more

We enjoyed hot cocoa and a triple berry muffin. Nothing special on the muffin but the cocoa was the perfect flavor and temperature and the whipped cream tasted very fresh. 5 stars for the atmosphere, as it presents itself as a community space that serves coffee, drinks, and prepared foods. I like what they've done with the place since the transition from Maude's! Nice to see the boardgames, shelves filled with books, plenty of sitting space, and conference area. We love our local coffee shop, especially all the delicious cinnamon based coffee drinks. BUT, it's frustrating that you can't get heavy cream as an ingredient in coffee. I hope the new owners see this! I noticed they're carrying a Keto Box, which is great but not having HC is limiting to Keto coffee drinkers which seems counter intuitive. A small place with the quaint coffee shop feel. The coffee tastes good and they have an wide array of flavors to choose from to include adding a porter to the coffee. There are very few beers on tap, but they have other varieties in a can and it doesn't break the bank to stop and have a drink. Its a good spot to have a conversation or to do some work. read more

Today I watched an individual at this coffee shop have a miserable experience and the staff did not care as they were in the wrong. As I sat at a table near the bathroom, I watched a gentleman wait for nearly 15 minutes to use 1 out of the 2 bathrooms. As he was in the bathroom other people waited outside, as he had to as well. A lady went to the counter and said that nobody was in there. Nobody knocked or anything as I could see the whole thing from my seat. The staff member came over, still didn't knock, and unlocked the door, that said "in use" above the handle and opened the door and revealed the gentleman, using the bathroom, to everyone in line. This was ridiculous and almost feels like it could be a law suit. I watched this gentleman go back to his seat and no more than 5 minutes later he left and staff didn't even apologize. I feel as if it should be common sense that if the bathroom says "in use" that someone is using it. read more

I came here for the first time yesterday and am already back again today. I ordered their pumpkin maple latte both times, and it was very good. Starbucks could never compare. The staff was very friendly and helpful on both days. I didn't order food, but it was nice to see they had healthy options and traditional options you would expect in a coffee shop. They also had free samples both days and the samples were different on each day. Both days I attended early afternoon and they had quite a few people here. There is also a lot of seating to accommodate. I brought a book to read, although it seems like they have a good selection of books and games if you are interested. Glad I found this place on accident and happy to support local. read more

This cafe and garden shop is adorable just like the fairy garden supplies and succulents they sell! My 17yo brought me here so we could work on her resume. We came mid-morning on a Saturday. The cafe had maybe four other patrons, but the garden side was all aflutter with a fairy garden worshop. I would have loved to participate; I've always wanted to create a fairy garden. It's one of my favorite exhibits at the State Fair. Now I know where to go to get supplies :) They also sell hummingbird and bird feeders, succulents, and other decorative garden pieces. The cafe started to get busy but there's plenty of room. Various sized tables to accommodate and set up your laptop. There's WiFi guest access, which is awesome. There's also outside seating available. We ordered hot vanilla Chai latte, iced mocha, blueberry and chocolate chip muffins. The muffins were so moist (hate that word, but it's the truth). Everything was yum. My iced mocha had the perfect balance of coffee, chocolate and ice. My 17yo enjoyed her chai to the last drop. As many reviewers have mentioned, they're coffee beans are from Carrboro Coffee Roasters. Staff was very friendly and super helpful. Single bathrooms are available and very clean. This is such a cute cafe and neighborhood gem. read more

Stopped in for the first time. Spacious, bright shop nicely decorated. Very friendly service. Coffee was great. I ordered a latte and they offer several milk alternatives. I did not order anything to eat but their pastries looked very tempting. There are books around the shop that are slightly used and can be purchased for $1. Perfect place to get out of the house/office at work or hang out at. Has an awesome setup inside and outside with free wifi (the only downside was I couldn't find a plug outside once my laptop died). Very friendly atmosphere and staff. The pastry I had was very good but seemed a bit expensive ($3.50 for a slice of banana bread). Also, the way they are keeping people safe from covid has got to be the most sophisticated/neatest (yet not over the top by any means) and most efficient way I have seen ANYWHERE since COVID started.
