It's one year later and this unit works better than any PTAC I've had in 28 years of dealing with them. Maureen is responsive and organized, I have never run into such a professional team dealing with these PTAC businesses, it makes ALL the difference. The teams she sends are always polite, efficient and pleasant. I cannot recommend them more. I call them now for repairs to the other two which are not from them. Highly recommend. read more

Norwest installed a new Islandaire PTAC unit in our apartment. It only worked for a few days and appeared to be leaking Freon. Nearly a year later, they finally came to evaluate the broken unit and promised it would be returned after 2-3 weeks of fixing it "in the shop." Other staff told us it was sent to the manufacturer. Either way, it's now been 4 weeks, our appointment for a reinstall was cancelled with no notice, and we were told that the soonest we could be added to the schedule is at the 6 week mark. Or really, the almost 52 week mark since this terrible adventure began. Like many of the other reviews here, we're finding the service unprofessional and unacceptable. Go literally anywhere else. (FYI: If you don't have a choice and your landlord engages them, do not try to email; they only respond to phone calls.) read more

Nor-West and Island Aire are no damn good and can not be trusted at all. For the record Nor-West is an authorized installer and seller of Island Aire units yet sells them to Nor-West customers for a whole lot less money. How is this even right or fair? I feel Island Aire units are overpriced garbage that are poorly manufactured, noisy and honestly never cool or heat when you truly need them. I feel that these units are not reliable nor do they last very long and that is if you are lucky enough to get one that actually works. I feel that none of Nor-West's employees have any formal training, certification or license in heating and/or air conditioning. I seriously doubt they follow EPA guidelines for getting rid of Freon and doubt that there repair shop is truly licensed and state certified facility that is properly set up to dispose of Freon not to contaminate the environment. I feel The owner, Dominick is a loud mouth and an idiot that doesn't even realize he is being ripped off from the manufacturer, and his own people. Nor-West promises units then at the time of install claim that they don't have the units in stock but no one knows why or what happened to them? Seriously in this day and age of computers what business does not keep track of there inventory? If my company was continually missing units that were not accounted for, the first place I would look and question is my employees to find out who is selling them without my knowledge and pocketing the money! I strongly suggest and feel that Island Aire, and Nor-West should not be trusted. There are other companies out there that are honest, reputable and trustworthy all three qualities that these two companies lack seriously. Norwest took over with a service contract for all the PTAC units in my building about a year ago. Have had 3 units in my apartment serviced, and recently had 2 units replaced (10 year old units that were the original units installed when my building was built). Dealt with Maureen for scheduling on all occasions. She's lightning fast to respond via email (even during weekends and holidays!), and most recently was able to get 2 brand new units out to my apartment for installation within 2 days of contacting her in the middle of a serious heatwave. Will be relying on Norwest for whatever other PTAC repair and serving needs I have in future. read more

Be warned - I called to schedule for servicing, and then called a few days before to confirm. When they did not show (after I took a half a day off work) I called to find out where they were... Apparently they moved me to another day, isn't that convenient. Cancelled my "rescheduled" appointment. Never working with them again. Rude, inconsiderate and frustrating. I bought a 18,000 BTU Islandaire air conditioning unit from Norwest air condiitoning and it never worked. I think the Islandaire air conditioning unit was defective from the start. It vibrates, it's loud and it does not cool. It never did. I even called Islandaire and spoke with Eric Unser. Eric asked me to get a sound meter reading form my phone. I did. The unit reads about 70 DB's with cover open, vibrates like a drum and it does not put out cold air. He never got back to me after that. So to Islandaire and Norwest who sold me the unit.. They both are quick to make a sale but don't stand by what they sell. read more

Called on a Friday and they were able to come out on Monday and this was the middle of August when everybody else told me I'd have to wait over a week! By Monday afternoon we were cool again. There were some new minor issues (i.e. a rattle) but they came back out on Friday and everything was back to normal. They did not charge us an extra service charge and gave us some helpful hints to keep our unit working efficiently. As far as billing and payment goes, they were a dream. I wanted to pay by credit card so they mailed an invoiced to me and I called back with my number at MY leisure. read more

Bayside Mews I would give NorWest no stars if I could. Typical bait and switch on my 96 yr old mother. We ordered 2 Islandaire units from GM for less than $2000. Waited four months and got Amana units for $3700 Never got authorization on change in order. Will pursue this through BBB, NYS ATTORNEY GENERAL and ultimately Small Claims Court. Had we been given the option, we would have used a more reputable company. Buyer beware...this outfit is less than stellar. Owner has the misconception that if he opens his mouth, he is telling the truth. read more

These people obviously don't want your business... I wish I can give them NO STARS but Yelp has a minimum... We inquired about getting an estimate for work through email. Their reply requested to call and set up an appointment. We spoke with someone who told us they would call us back. They never did. We called again, and finally set up an appointment. We confirmed the appointment more than once. At the end of the 3 hour time window, a NO-SHOW. When we called to ask when he was coming, they told us that "HIS TRUCK BROKE DOWN". When asked when he CAN come by, they said that he WILL NOT come to our building and that we should call someone else! They had several days to tell us this, yet had us wait through the appointment and provided no communication! These people wasted a week of our time and they shouldn't waste yours. Don't bother with a company who won't bother with you! read more

I had no issues with this company. Made an appointment, they came on time and looked at my 3 air conditioning units. I had just bought my apartment from a couple that had housed cats and dogs for years. They told me all three needed to be cleaned because they were clogged with cat and dog hair (which I knew) and they replaced the compressor in one. The units have been working perfecting since then. The girls in the office were nice and responsive and the guys who came out were experienced and friendly. read more

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE/POOR WORKMANSHIP/POOR BUSINESS OVERALL --- to spare you all the details, this company supposedly replaced the compressor in my unit and charged me nearly $1,2000. The unit still does not blow cold air and when I reached out to have them correct their mistake they told me to hire an electrician to make sure there wasn't another issue. I paid an electrician almost $300 to come check the breaker and electrical outlets only for him to tell me that there was a problem with the unit itself. When Norwest's techs finally did show up they told me explicitly that it was an issue with the connections to the compressor not the compressor itself, but that they didn't have the equipment to fix it on sight. The "owner", Manny, called later to tell me that the unit needed to be replaced and when I explained what his techs told me he said he had to speak to them and would call me back. When he never called I called the office and Maureen and Donna lied and said that he was on a conference call. When I asked to leave a message for him they repeatedly hung up on me. Still no word back from Manny; I won't hold my breath. Cannot say it enough, do not work with them they are THIEVES!!! read more

Awful service. I made an appointment more than a week ago, confirmed it yesterday and they called me an hour before our appt to reschedule for a week later. I told them this was unacceptable and they needed to make the appointment good within 24 hours. They refused. I've never experienced such poor customer service. Awful experience. Expensive and took 4+ months to get the unit installed and I was on the "priority" list. Over 4 months they barely return phone calls. Finally got the call that the unit came in, took the day off from work to wait for the install. The lady at the desk messed up the date and they never showed. Was installed 2 days following - the men that did the install were very nice the unit works well, but it wasn't worth the terrible, terrible service. read more

I have had nothing but problems with this company. I am a property manager and when the manufacturer of out PTAC units ceased their repair division they recommended NorWest. They are AWFUL!!!! From missed appointments, to returning units not repaired and charging for services not provided, to dropping my unit down a full flight of stairs and then claiming there was nothing wrong with it. Sent it out for a second opinion and the other company said the unit had multiple problems requiring replacement of parts. The unit originally only had a freon leak which was also never repaired although, when dropped, they were returning it after they claimed it had been repaired. If you want to be given the run around and get ripped off, by all means use them, but otherwise I recommend finding someone else. WinterCool so far has been very responsive and problem free. read more

I have also had a bad experience with the islander ac sold to me by nor west. It's a piece of junk! I bought it in August and it never cooled properly. Now, in winter it doesn't heat properly. The fan just keeps going and going and it gets too hot in my apartment. It also makes too much noise! The company has sent out their service men several times. No improvement. I was warned that these units are not good and called to cancel my order in august. The owner, Dominic , called me and assured me that he would personally guarantee the quality of the unit and that the workers in my building who told me his units were inferior "don't like us because we don't take care of them". He was very convincing so I completed the order. What a mistake! Dominic is adamant that the issues can be fixed. I want to return the unit and purchase from Their competitors. More expensive, but good units. Do not purchase from this company! read more

They forgot the part after they kept me waiting hours to show up. Seriously! They knew the model number, the part they needed and forgot it. I waited for hours. The air conditioner is broken and I sat for hours in a hot apartment. Why would anyone use this company? There are so many others. They don't do brain surgery. Just show up with the part. They were wonderful to work with-- from the office staff who followed up consistently, to the delivery men, who were professional, thoughtful and efficient, I got fantastic service. And this, in the middle of the worst heat wave ever in NYC. The two other companies recommended did not even return my calls. They were able to get my replacement (which was an odd size) faster than they had told me, and scheduled me the next afternoon. I was wary because of earlier bad reviews, but they've recently made some changes, and really worked hard to earn the 5 stars I'm giving them. read more

This was an unbelievable moment with this company and do not recommend them in the least. I called to set up an appointment and all was good for 2 weeks from when I called them because they were busy. Nice, polite and courteous on the phone. They asked that if they could not fix the problem, should they bring a back up so not to wait in case the weather started getting too warm as we have an 11 month old baby. I asked how much it was for a replacement unit. The quote was $2500. I had already asked the manufacturer for a quote prior to calling this company, just in case it needed to be switched out. The quote I got from the company was $1500 including shipping and taxes. I would just need someone to install it. Me saving $1000 was offensive to this company and they decided to cancel my appointment the morning of at 7am stating that they could not get a truck out to us. Come to find out that it was not worth their time to come and do a service call to us. This tells me that regardless of what the issue was they were going to push their $2500 unit on us. Do not trust these people. The fact that they did this to a potential client with an 11 month old child tells me that they have no morals, no sense of business and no conscience. In this economy and the way the world is going, you would think people have better business sense then to pull a stunt like this. read more

I too would give no stars if I could. This is beyond a doubt the worst company I have ever worked with. They took over a grand from me back in April and have yet to appear with my ac unit. Once again, we had an appointment set for 12-2 today and they have yet to appear and it is now 2:30. Characteristically, no one is answering their phones. I could write a novel about how frustrated I am with this company and all the issues we have encountered in the months that have elapsed, but my blood pressure is going up just thinking about it. At this juncture, legal action is our only recourse. read more
