My FAVORITE dishes are the phucket noodles, the bulgogi buns and the noodles on a boat. Once you become a regular here the staff will quickly remember you. I was craving sushi and decided to stop by Nooshi for the first time. While the service was subpar, as often times I felt like they forgot we were dining there, the food did not disappoint. I tried the Shrimp Tempura maki roll and it was too good! The shrimp was so crispy and crunchy and the roll was perfectly put together. The addition of the ginger also helped to take it to the next level. For my entree, I tried the Mongolian Stir-Fry. It was more than enough food and every ingredient taste so fresh and perfectly prepared. We sat outside so I can't comment on the ambience, aesthetic, decor, etc. on the inside but the music was great -- they played a variety of Hip Hop and R&B. I would definitely return! read more

My husband had been really wanting to try this place. I would say it's the definition of a three star restaurant. Satisfied an urge to go and try it, but wouldn't go out of my way to go back. Both our drinks (mule and Bellini) were great and probably the highlight of the meal. For apps we got fried dumplings - which were good but definitely needed the soy sauce versus standing on their own. For the mains, I had gotten a green curry and my husband got a dumpling soup. Perhaps the most aggravating thing about Nooshi is that the nigiri is served as singles, without the lovely bond of a usual pair. That aside, the offerings are reasonable and tasty. Observing diners, it is hard to tell if this place lures locals, or if it is a tourist trap. It does not feel like a tourist trap, however, despite being within walking distance of a hoard of hotels. It feels local and warm, not corporate and removed. Overall, the ambiance is chill, almost romantic. Odd, though -- it feels like it is a reformed diner, with its long, 6-seater booths which have been made contemporary. Nooshi also has a small outdoor patio in the front of the restaurant. The menu is full of favorites, a wonderful mishmash of Japanese, Chinese and Korean dishes: shumai, satay, spring rolls, teriyaki, korean BBQ ribs, pork belly, shaky beef, stir-fry, Chinese eggplant, braised spring beants, hot pot, pho, Tom Kha and sushi. I enjoyed the nigiri, especially the mackerel and ikura. Uni was on the menu, but unavailable. Bummer. The pad Thai offers large chunks of nicely flavored chicken and lovely bits of brussel spouts (an interesting addition), but the noodles were strangely dry. The calamari is a must! Served with spicy peppers and a decadent light dipping sauce, it was one of my favorites on the menu. I would return to try other menu items and to enjoy the sushi again. read more

We came here for happy hour which we were a bit disappointed.. as all they had were the drinks for half off. They do not offer any food options which is just a bit usual during happy hour especially in the city. So, we contemplated on ordering some of the food options and decided to start with the Gyoza's which were slightly over cooked. And that's where we decided to end with the food options as well. The drinks were just okay. I had gotten a mojito which was a lot more on the sweet side. It seem like their bartender was quite a bit inexperienced as the people next to us had to explain how to make their drinks since they did not know how to do some of the basic things they asked them. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! This is a nice Asian spot next to one of my best friends' offices. I have been to this happy hour on three occasions now, though they call it crazy hour (accurate). So there is some seating outside (though ironically, I have never been to this place during the warm months, so I have never been out there), and you see several tables and a small bar when you walk inside. When you walk further in, you realize just how deep the place goes. It's a lot bigger than it may appear from the front. So for the most recent visit, I was with a party of ~20 coworkers, so we had to get a table. The staff were very kind and patient with accommodating all of us! It was wet outside, so a nice touch about this place is that they have coat racks in the back. If we chose, we could hang our coats on the rack and get them later. I can't think of another place that does that. Their happy hour is 1/2 off all of the specialty drinks, which is a nice variety. I tend to default to the "My Mai Tai" which is delicious and strong! It's also worth noting that this place has happy hour on weekends too, so that's always a plus. My favorite appetizer (well, one of them) is the sweet corn wonton, which is these little wontons filled with shrimp and crabmeat. They're delicious, just not filling at all. For $7, it's a tad discouraging to order more than one order... I don't even think two would fill me up, but it's so good!! They serve their sushi in these fancy little dishes. Pretty fast service for work lunch but can get a bit pricey, especially if you order sushi. I've been to Nooshi a couple times as it was in close proximity to where I worked. In terms of food, the restaurant is Pan-Asian cuisine, serving Thai, Korean, sushi, and other Japanese dishes. For sushi, the fish quality is actually pretty good and better than other Pan-Asian restaurants in DC. I was initially skeptical at ordering their Uni (sea urchin) as usually only higher end places serve it and at market price, but Nooshi's tasted pretty good! However, ordering enough sushi a la carte to be full get expensive. Other dishes are pretty standard (nothing stands out but nothing was bad either) and portion sizes are large enough to be filled. The 50% off happy hour is definitely something everyone should check out here - putting a good twist on classic cocktails with punny names and good mixes. Although our server kind of stared us down a lot - my friend took a sip of my drink and he came over to ask for her ID - and took away our cocktail menu when it was still happy hour (miscommunication issues more than being rude) I'm grateful that he did come over to take one last call for happy hour drinks for my friends and I. I also appreciated that although we got a booth table (fits around 4), the servers brought over another chair right away to seat a fifth friend when he arrived late. I got the Phuket noodles dish. This is a good dish if you like pho noodles and Tom Yum soup (sweet and sour soup, is what is advertised), whcih was unclear to me, that the noodles were served in a soup. Personally wished that the menu did not classify noodle soup within the noodles, same as dishes like Pad Thai and Drunken noodles, that kind of thing. I was not a fan of this dish but I had a taste of my other friends' and theirs was really good!! So it was my fault when it came to my order. You're probably wondering where I'm writing this review from...my couch. I practically had to roll myself home after the delicious meal I had Nooshi this afternoon. I had a chance to indulge in the crab rangoons, salmon skin and scallion roll and the curry laska as my main course. The Rangoons are perfectly cooked and actually have a good amount of meat which is usually rare for a lot of places. It's served with a wasabi mayo this isn't too overwhelming by any means and pairs perfectly. This was my first Time having the this specific roll which was good, but I'd probably explore other options next time. The salmon skin was cooked well, but I think I personally enjoy rolls with a little extra. Once again, personal preference so don't let it deter you! The curry laska is served in a beautiful ladle style bowl and is topped with perfectly fried tofu. I wish I could fully explain how delicious this is, but you'll have to try it for yourself. The flavors are perfect and ideal for a chilly/ rainy day or ANY day if you love a good soup like me. It's loaded with noodles, chicken, and string beans. I topped off my meal with a Mai Thai which has a good amount of liquor and is the perfect intro into the weekend. I'd be remiss if I didn't say how nice and attentive the wait staff are. We didn't have to ask for anything and they quickly helped us get situated when we came inside. Our food also came SUPER quick. Nooshi continues to be a fave! read more

We stumbled into Nooshi after trying to go to Greek Deli and running into an extremely long line, and we were pleasantly surprised. The service was quick which was great for our limited lunch time hour. The waitresses were extremely helpful with the menu as it was our first time there, and they helped us make some especially delicious selections. I would definitely recommend this sushi spot! I got the calamari and the spicy shrimp roll and both were great. I especially liked that the calamari came with a honey lemon sauce that was something I had never seen with calamari, but complimented the calamari so well! I had a brief stint working in DC while my office was being renovated and Nooshi was one of my boyfriend and I's favorite lunch time haunts because of it's prices and convenience. Apparently, it is a favorite of many other Dupont workers as well because this place always had a wait. This place kind of reminds me of Cafe Asia in terms of decor and food options but unlike Cafe Asia I have never felt the urge to throw up from over drinking or eating bad sushi (although I do hear they have a 50% off extended happy hour so ask me again about that another time!). My boyfriend and I are pretty much like 80 year old patrons getting the blue light special at a local diner whenever we eat here because we ALWAYS order the same thing. For him, the chicken pad thai and for me, spicy crunchy tuna rolls and California rolls (although last week I expanded to get scallop sashimi and was not disappointed). My rolls are pretty standard and I never noticed anything questionable about it which makes it A-OK in my book. The boy heartily endorses the pad thai and gives an extra thumbs up for their extra large perfectly glazed and pan fried tofu chunks that are mixed in with the noodles. I prefer sushi over noodles any day, but the noodles are better than their sushi here... Unless you pay per piece, which will add up quickly. Noodles here come in better portions, and there's more variety. They have most of the Thai noodles, and I really enjoyed their Phuket noodles. They say it's their very spicy noodles. Usually when people say it's spicy, it isn't really spicy to me, but I coughed a few times from the Phuket noodle broth. It was similar to tom yum - the sourness, but with more of a kick with the chilies they add in. Yum!!!! It has chicken, carrots, ginger, and a few other things. Sushi/Japanese food here is pricey, and most do not come with the standard miso soup. For example, when I ordered their chirashi, all I got was the chirashi. I've definitely paid under $19 for much better/generous chirashi, and that came with miso soup. Nooshi's chirashi doesn't come with miso soup or anything else. Also, most of their good fish pieces were chopped up in chunks. Was this part of their fusion style? It ruins chirashi! It also doesn't come with tamago, which came with all other chirashi I've tried. What piece should you have last if there's no tamago? Doesn't seem right, haha. At least it came with the roe/ikura. The fish tend to taste better if you order sushi per piece. I tried their uni (sea urchin) and their fresh salmon. The salmon was one of the best I've had in Downtown DC. So good!!!! I wanted more pieces, but paying around $3 a piece was a bit much for me. The uni was around $4 or $5 a piece, but it was good too. Small, but yummy. If I don't feel guilty about spending $100 on a meal for myself, I'd come here to order many individual pieces of sushi/nigiri! read more
