I visited Noodlehead for lunch on a weekday. It was nicer inside than expected. I started with the fried pork dumpling which has a pleasant flavor that was new to me as well as pork belly steamed buns which were shredded and much less fatty than other local restaurants. I had a few hours in Pittsburgh and I saw this restaurant on Yelp and had to check it out. My friend from Pittsburgh said it was a good choice and it was. Service was imbecile. My waitress was so friendly and we ended up following each other on instagram. I order the Pork Belly Steamed Buns and they were good. I also got the Chiang Mai Curry which I assumed would be more like Khao Soy, but I found it be much creamier and sweeter. It was good, but more like American-style Thai. I would go here again in a heartbeat. The atmosphere is great, and the service was phenomenal. The prices are excellent. Good for a date or going out with friends or family. When I tell you we ordered the fried chicken again even though we were so full because it was so good we couldn't help ourselves. Many times you get thigh in karage or Asian fried chicken, but this is pure breast and it is DELICIOUS. The iced tea is like drinking a jar of honey in the best way possible. Just be careful because they take their spice seriously.. This is not a place you order 5/5 spice unless you're ready for it. I recommend either getting takeout or trying to go during less busy hours as it can get super super crowded w long wait times and they don't take reservations. Street Noodle #1 and #2 are instant classics and their kee mao and pad thai are solid. Dumplings and steamed buns are my go-to appetizers, but I'm sure there isn't anything bad on the menu. Tables are close together, but BYOB a bottle of wine is a nice, inexpensive date night. There is no corking fee, but $.75 recycling fee per person. The resto was bustling with people when I walked in to pick up my order. I loved the interior, it has a hip and happening vibe. Just be aware that they are cash only. I had the street noodles with shrimp and it was wonderful - the flavors and textures were amazing. I was also incredibly impressed by how accommodating they were for my mom, who is gluten free. They happily substituted the noodles in her soup for extra protein. tldr: Trendy, bustling spot in East Liberty for a quick lunch or light dinner. Lots of young people and students. Very dark inside but otherwise a casual ambience. Crowded at lunch time. Solid but not spectacular food: Big noodle bowls of various types with pretty good flavor for low prices. Summary: I went with my girlfriend for lunch on a Friday. We were seated right away but not served for 10 minutes or so (the place was a bit understaffed for such a crowded lunch hour). Once we were served things moved along quickly. The restaurant is oddly dark for a fairly loud, trendy spot geared toward a young crowd. They have a mix of high tables, low tables, booths, and even a few outdoor tables. We both enjoyed our noodle bowls (which are good deals at $9.50). I got pad see ew which was a large plate of wide noodles with a little broccoli and some cabbage. I got it with shrimp although there was not much shrimp. Good flavor. My girlfriend got the green curry. Excellent flavor and lots of veggies, but the veggies were steamed and not flavored/mixed with the curry sauce. She got it with tofu, and like mine there wasn't too much tofu (although it was good). Do yourself a favor and order the Chiang Mai noodles. To be honest everything else here is kind of mid but the Chiang Mai is sooo good. This was the first khao soi I've tried and I love the contrast of the crunchy noodle topping and the smooth flavorful curry! I'm a bit unclear whether you can change the spice level on this dish since sometimes they've told me no and sometimes they've asked for it, but level 3/5 is what I usually go with. There is usually a wait here so be prepared, but if you go during off peak hours, you shouldn't have to wait long, if at all. I've been to Noodlehead a million times but just now decided to write a review. Since COVID, Noodlehead allows for dine-in outdoors and takeout. There are only two tables outdoors though, so there might be a wait. However, they do limit your time to 60 min! In my experience, I've always been seated fairly quickly. They also only allow 1 person/party inside at a time and require you to wear a mask until your food arrives. Menus are virtual now so bring a smartphone. For an appetizer, we ordered the Thai fried chicken. It was so crispy and satisfying! Although the chicken is bland, the Thai chili dipping sauce makes up for it. I always order this! For entrees, we ordered the Pad Kee Mao and Chiang Mai Curry. I've gone through different favorites at Noodlehead, but my current fav is the Pad Kee Mao! I usually get a spice level 3. I love the Thai basil flavor, crunchy cabbage, and savory noodles. My only complaint is their inconsistency with spice. Sometimes a 3 tastes like they added 0 spice, sometimes it's perfect, and sometimes it's way too hot. I like my food with a kick and it usually is not spicy enough for me. The Chiang Mai curry is my other favorite to get. I think it is most similar to a Massaman curry maybe? Because it is a curry, you are required to get some level of spice. In the curry are egg noodles, and on top are crunchy fried noodles that soften as they soak up the curry. The curry is creamy and flavorful, and the best part is the pickled mustard greens that balance out the heavy cream. It also makes for great leftovers. Noodlehead is easily one of the most hyped up restaurants in Pittsburgh, and I think it's worth the hype. With their huge portions, flavorful dishes, and reasonable prices, Noodlehead is one of my favorite restaurants that I always take friends/family who are visiting. read more

Reunited and it feels so good! This place is my old reliable. Highly recommend the love boat soup (both soup choices are excellent but I don't eat pork now) and the pad see yew.
