I didn't get what I ordered lol but this one was still good. Ended up receiving the street noodle #2 with fried shrimp instead of chicken. I really liked the sweet and tangy sauce it was in but it did make the shrimp soggy instead of crunchy. Portion was on the smaller end for sure but nice vibe here. I got spice level 3 which was perfect for me
Definitely need to return to this place. The outdoor seating is a vibe, the service is great and so is the food. Especially liked the dipping sauces
One of my favorites - I enjoyed the see ew again with shrimp. There was a light-moderate amount of shrimp in it and you had to take the tails off yourself. Everyone I was with enjoyed their meals. The Thai tea with boba was also good, although the boba tasted strangely bland, which isn't important but I noticed somehow. It was busy there but service was still quick. The restaurant is decorated cutely with lots of wood and plants as well making it a good vibe.
By far, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh! When I am craving a comfortable bowl of noodles, this is my go to place. I especially enjoy the street noodle dishes, the kee mao, and the curry dishes. The ambience inside the restaurant is incredibly cute and cozy, and it is perfect for catching up with friends, a date, or family dinner. The service is also friendly and usually quick. However, because this is a popular restaurant, be prepared to wait a while for the table if you're there on a weekend or evening.
We live so close to noodlehead so we go pretty often now and if you are visiting it is a must. Any plate I try is always delicious and it comes out so quick !! The additional outdoor seating is so great for summer nights. They are byob with a very low corkage fee so definitely take advantage of it!!
This place is so good. There are a lot of restaurants in this area and to go more than 1-2 times means something. This is my second time and I will say that the spice is what I crave. First time I had Thai Fried Rice, level 3 spice, and it was great. This time I got Basil Fried Rice, spice level 3. Next time I come I want to go level 4 for spice. I want to rave about the service: it is perfect. Attentive, personable, but not hovering. Ambiance is a little loud but you can carry on a conversation.
First visit was in March. Second visit the beginning of May. Inside dining area has a country charm with wooden tables, booths, chairs and even a wooden accent wall. Front is full windows that face Highland Ave. Very busy on a Friday evening. The waitress was very kind and helpful. Service with a smile. First time I ordered the Chu Chee Curry Fried Chicken and loved every bite. Second time I ordered Khao Soi and it's equal delicious. Although, this one come with grilled chicken. I think I liked their Thai fried chicken better than the grilled chicken. Next time I need to try this dish with rice noodles as our waitress said it soaks up the curry better than the regular noodles do.
Hubby and I had lunch at Noodlehead recently. I don't go to Shadyside often, so I found this restaurant because of Yelp. I liked it a lot!!! The Street Noodle #2 with tempura shrimp spice level 2 was crispy, saucy and lightly sweet. The Thai Style Fried Rice with grilled shrimp spice level 3 was deeply flavorful with crunchy veg and herby basil. The portions and spice level was perfect for one lunch. The waitstaff was friendly and the Thai decor very clean and modern. There is an outdoor seating area but that wasn't available when I went. Would definitely recommend.
Noodlehead came as a great recommendation, we rushed over and put our names down. After waiting a quick 30 (was nice enough to walk around the area) - we were seated at the window bar seats. The staff was super friendly and very efficient. The papaya salad was divine, leaning to the spicier side but it was addicting and every bite was a great combine of sweet, fresh, spice, with the most delectable crunch. I got the street noodle #1, it was excellent. The fried chicken did get a little soggy with the sauce but it had a great broth to accompany all of the delicious noodles and with everything in one bite it was divine. Based on what I've heard, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu - I would definitely come back and try the curry next time :)
Noodlehead is a must visit spot whose casual, energetic vibe reflects the deliciousness that awaits you once you take your seat. I visited here on a weeknight and the place was POPPIN!! Despite the restaurant being filled with a beautiful mix of diners from seemingly all walks of life. The waiter was animated and helpful with deciding on which appetizers to choose. We opted for the pork dumplings (went with fried cause we were going "light" with the buns, lol) and the pulled pork steam buns. The dumplings were perfectly fried, bites of well flavored pork and the soy-based dipping sauce offer the needed salty contrast. The buns. Ohhhh the buns. Pillowy soft, perfectly sized for a handheld bite and filled with the most unctuous pulled pork. It didn't hurt that it had a schmear of a slightly tangy mayo-based sauce and crisp cukes for contrast. 11 out of 10. For entrees, we went with the Love Boat "Noodlehead Style" which is one of the best noodle-based soups that have ever graced my lips. Thin rice noodles were bathing in an uber-flavorful, soy-centric broth that had strips (can also choose cubes) of perfectly cooked beef and a smattering of thinly sliced Chinese broccoli, cilantro and Thai basil. Topped with fried wonton crisps. Just. Perfect. The second entree we went with was the Street Noodle #1 which came with thicker egg noodles that were enrobbed in a tamarind-centric sauce and topped with fresh cilantro and thin and crisp fried chicken breast. All in all a solid dish, especially if you like your entrees on the more sweet/tangy side. Though it says they accept cash-only they must have recently changed this since cards they indeed accept (but they do have an ATM inside too). Noodlehead. I reallllyy wish you weren't ~5 hours away because you'd be a staple part of my restie rotation, especially when I was craving a big bowl of Thai penicillin. Go here. Soon. You won't regret it.
the khao soi was sooo yummy i loveddd it. noodles were very qq. only note is that the chicken was a little bit dry so i'd recommend trying tofu the see yew was really tasty too and not too salty i wasn't the biggest fan of the pad thai tho bc it was kinda soggy
One of our fav spots! Have been going here since they had just a few items on their menu and were cash only. Their expanded menu and specials are phenomenal! The service is always great. They have at least 2 tables for groups as big as 7-10 people, so my friends and I love coming here! And if you have to wait to be seated, you can stop by any of the bars (or ice cream spots) on the street!
Now I know why this is on every Pittsburgh Food reviewers list of best places in the city! Noodlehead has been on my list to try for a long time and I finally made there for lunch while my car was getting worked on. The vibes are very cozy inside and my server was such a sweetie and helped talk through the menu with me. Everything sounded so good, it was hard to make a decision. I ultimately landed on the crab rangoons to start and the pad thai with thai fried chicken for my main. The rangoons were very good and I loved the sauce they came with. The star of the show was the main course and the crispy chicken was the best move. Will 100% be back to try more of the menu!
MUST NOTE: Cash only! Now that that's out of the way (and it wasn't a problem for us), the review: my friend insisted we go here upon my visit to him him in Pittsburgh, as he'd said this is the best Thai in the city. While my sample size currently sits at an "n" of 1, I don't see a reason to disagree. I had an excellent pad kee mao dish with extra chicken. The sauce in particular had incredible flavor. It was also quite affordable - I think after the addition of extra chicken, it was still in the $11-$13 range. I wish I could go back for more; I'll just have to visit Pittsburgh again soon! read more

Fast and efficient service, good atmosphere, good food. I go here all the time with my friends. Only thing is the wait can take a while for larger groups since they don't take reservations. We waited over an hour for a table for six on a Friday night, I do not mind waiting though. read more

Came here on a recommendation from my friend and was not disappointed! Love the cute hipster decor! Note: it's cash only which was surprising but not a big deal, just be aware before coming here. My boyfriend and I ordered the Love Boat and the Kee Mao respectively + the hot & cold lemongrass tea. I'm not a fan of thin noodles but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the ones in Love Boat! Super flavorful, umami broth. The Kee Mao was also really good, not full of filler and a good ratio of protein (shrimp), noodles and vegetables. The iced lemongrass honey tea was very refreshing and the hot version was soothing/fragrant. Overall: fast service, delicious food, cute decor. We're definitely coming back again! read more

This is one of my favorite Thai spots in Pittsburgh. I've tried many things on the menu, and I've loved every single one. Some of my favorites are shown here (love boat, green curry linguine, see ew, and the bao buns). The service is always exceptional and it's BYO which is a nice way to save money while dining out. The setting is also very comfortable and unique. Check out @gbennieats on Instagram for a further review! read more
We came here upon recommendation from a friend. This place is always busy every time we walked by. The only downside is that it is cash only, so make sure you have cash on you. We ordered the green curry linguine at a Thai hot level and it was delicious. Would definitely recommend it if you are craving some Thai food. read more

Four of us, we ordered take out and foods was good. Like Street noodle 1 and 2 not to crazy about Green Curry Linguine, Chiang Ma Curry, and Jamacia's Hot Ginger Root Beer. Think maybe try something else next time. read more
I visited Noodlehead for lunch on a weekday. It was nicer inside than expected. I started with the fried pork dumpling which has a pleasant flavor that was new to me as well as pork belly steamed buns which were shredded and much less fatty than other local restaurants. For my main I ordered Chiang Mai Curry which was excellent. I should have gotten a spice level 3 instead of 2 which has little heat. A very reasonably priced for what you get restaurants. read more

I had a few hours in Pittsburgh and I saw this restaurant on Yelp and had to check it out. My friend from Pittsburgh said it was a good choice and it was. Service was imbecile. My waitress was so friendly and we ended up following each other on instagram. I order the Pork Belly Steamed Buns and they were good. I also got the Chiang Mai Curry which I assumed would be more like Khao Soy, but I found it be much creamier and sweeter. It was good, but more like American-style Thai. I would go here again in a heartbeat. The atmosphere is great, and the service was phenomenal. The prices are excellent. Good for a date or going out with friends or family. I wouldn't recommend going with a large party though, maybe 4 at most. read more

Lives up to the hype! We got Chiang Mai Curry (first pic) and Street Noodle 2 (second pic) both with spice level 2 which was the perfect spice for me. The curry was so flavorful with a great mix of textures! I recommend this!! Street Noodle 2 consisted of thin egg noodles and shrimp tempura which had a more subtle flavor but still delicious! Not authentic Thai food but still phenomenal :) read more

Even if you're not a full on Noodlehead and just kind of like noodles, you have to try this place. Food may not be the most authentic Thai, but its so so good. Just be careful because they take their spice seriously.. This is not a place you order 5/5 spice unless you're ready for it. I recommend either getting takeout or trying to go during less busy hours as it can get super super crowded w long wait times and they don't take reservations. Street Noodle #1 and #2 are instant classics and their kee mao and pad thai are solid. Dumplings and steamed buns are my go-to appetizers, but I'm sure there isn't anything bad on the menu. Tables are close together, but BYOB a bottle of wine is a nice, inexpensive date night. There is no corking fee, but $.75 recycling fee per person. Another East End spot that is worth traveling across a river or through a tunnel to get to. read more
The restaurant was really adorable. It had a very casual vibe but is a great place to meet up with friends, go with your family, or even have a quick lunch date. The menu was simple, I liked it because it was easy to make choices. Sometimes when the menu is overwhelming and everything sounds delicious it's hard to make choices. We had the See Yew and Kee Mao and it was delicious and perfectly priced. The food was cooked well and was not overly oily. We got a spice level 2, but I would recommend going for spice level 3 if you can handle spicy food. Additionally, remember you can only pay in cash! read more
Noodlehead, just the name itself appealed to me and since I live close by I decided to try out this place. I ordered the very popular Chiangmai curry and Thai fried chicken. The resto was bustling with people when I walked in to pick up my order. I loved the interior, it has a hip and happening vibe. I liked the Thai fried chicken- just the right amount of crispness and crunchiness. However, the curry for which I had high hopes for disappointed me. I asked for a spice level 3 and that wasn't sufficient for my palate. If I were to dine/takeout again, I will try the green curry linguine. I so wanted to give a high rating for noodlehead but I can't considering the flavor of the food. read more

Every time I've been here it has been outstanding and every guest I've brought loves it. I've tried many of the menu options and all of them became a new favorite. The broths are delicious and each meat is very well done and garnished fantastically. It's often busy but the service has never been a problem. It's a fun place to spend time with friends with a large dining area! read more

THE BEST spot in Pittsburgh Really, if you're a pho kind of gal or you're into soups in general, This is the spot! They do only take cash so be prepared for that & the line is super long but so worth the wait. The best soup I've ever had. read more

Don't wait to try Noodlehead. I'm extremely picky when it comes to well proportioned and seasoned Thai dishes because it's one of my favorite styles of cuisine. Noodlehead is a 5 star, cash only, BYOB, first come first served, no reservations kind of spot. I had the Pad Thai and a friend had Street Noodle #1 and we both enjoyed the Pulled Pork Belly Bao Buns together. I switched out the chicken in the Pad Thai for Fried Thai Chicken (+$2) and it's surely worth it if you're missing it elsewhere in your meal. I wish you the best of luck not returning within a week to get a second helping. This place is just yum. Service, always on point. #LGBTQIA friendly AF I almost kissed the wall and it seemed like that would have been fine for me to do. Cheers! read more

Noodlehead has been one of my favorite Thai spots for the last few years and it never disappoints! Service is always super fast and the noodles are always delicious. My favorite dishes are the chiang mai curry and the pad kee mao. The noodles all used to be $9 a few years ago but I think the price has gone up recently to $12.50 which is still reasonable. It is a cash only restaurant so make sure to bring cash when you go! read more
tldr: Trendy, bustling spot in East Liberty for a quick lunch or light dinner. Lots of young people and students. Very dark inside but otherwise a casual ambience. Crowded at lunch time. Solid but not spectacular food: Big noodle bowls of various types with pretty good flavor for low prices. Summary: I went with my girlfriend for lunch on a Friday. We were seated right away but not served for 10 minutes or so (the place was a bit understaffed for such a crowded lunch hour). Once we were served things moved along quickly. The restaurant is oddly dark for a fairly loud, trendy spot geared toward a young crowd. They have a mix of high tables, low tables, booths, and even a few outdoor tables. We both enjoyed our noodle bowls (which are good deals at $9.50). I got pad see ew which was a large plate of wide noodles with a little broccoli and some cabbage. I got it with shrimp although there was not much shrimp. Good flavor. My girlfriend got the green curry. Excellent flavor and lots of veggies, but the veggies were steamed and not flavored/mixed with the curry sauce. She got it with tofu, and like mine there wasn't too much tofu (although it was good). We got an appetizer of veggie spring rolls, which were small and not much to write home about. I'd skip these next time. read more

I've been to Noodlehead a million times but just now decided to write a review. Since COVID, Noodlehead allows for dine-in outdoors and takeout. There are only two tables outdoors though, so there might be a wait. However, they do limit your time to 60 min! In my experience, I've always been seated fairly quickly. They also only allow 1 person/party inside at a time and require you to wear a mask until your food arrives. Menus are virtual now so bring a smartphone. For an appetizer, we ordered the Thai fried chicken. It was so crispy and satisfying! Although the chicken is bland, the Thai chili dipping sauce makes up for it. I always order this! For entrees, we ordered the Pad Kee Mao and Chiang Mai Curry. I've gone through different favorites at Noodlehead, but my current fav is the Pad Kee Mao! I usually get a spice level 3. I love the Thai basil flavor, crunchy cabbage, and savory noodles. My only complaint is their inconsistency with spice. Sometimes a 3 tastes like they added 0 spice, sometimes it's perfect, and sometimes it's way too hot. I like my food with a kick and it usually is not spicy enough for me. The Chiang Mai curry is my other favorite to get. I think it is most similar to a Massaman curry maybe? Because it is a curry, you are required to get some level of spice. In the curry are egg noodles, and on top are crunchy fried noodles that soften as they soak up the curry. The curry is creamy and flavorful, and the best part is the pickled mustard greens that balance out the heavy cream. It also makes for great leftovers. Noodlehead is easily one of the most hyped up restaurants in Pittsburgh, and I think it's worth the hype. With their huge portions, flavorful dishes, and reasonable prices, Noodlehead is one of my favorite restaurants that I always take friends/family who are visiting. read more
I am shocked. This was our first meal in pittsburgh. Why is it so cheap? Why is the kee mao better than what we have in california? Why was everything cooked so perfectly? Why does the beef noodle soup have such a unique flavor? Why did we drink the curry like soup? You have to come here if you are in pittsburgh. read more
Not too busy on a wed night, was easy to find seating. Nothing new to add, still good! Kee mao noodles tasted a little more bloated and wet than normal but overall still a local fav of mine. We did BYOB this time and there's no corkage fee and if you take the bottle with you there's no recycling fee (otherwise 75 cents). read more

I just tried noodlehead for the first time last night and it was delicious!! The restaurant itself was very clean and well decorated and the food came out remarkably fast. I got the pad Thai with a medium spice level and I was definitely feeling the heat by the end of the dish. Strongly recommend! read more

What is a good time to go before they get busy?
Probably right when they open. Avoid the dinner rush. They stay busy until pretty late/close to closing. Esp on weekends. Or order for pickup!
