We ordered a variety of dishes - smoked pork trotter, beef lungs in chili sauce (fuqi feipian), dry fried string beans, spicy dry fried pork intestines, saute spicy chicken with noodle (da pan ji), cumin lamb, and braised beef noodles. Everything was great, and my favourites were the fried pork intestines (super crispy with no aftertaste at all), cumin lamb (very fragrant and rich in flavour, fatty and gamey all at once - just be careful of biting into one of those hidden jalapenos among the sweet peppers), braised beef noodles (a classic), and fuqi feipian (a really large serving for ~$8, filled with tripe and flank). My least favourite (only marginally so) was the smoked pork trotter; since it was served cold, the texture was very rubbery but when reheated, the flavour is much more palatable. The portions were SUPER generous - the saute chicken came with two styrofoam cups of sauce, enough to last us the meal and another more with additional noodles. We also had enough leftovers to last us two meals (lunch and dinner) the other day. Will definitely order more from Xin Xin in the months to come, particularly as Ontario moves into another stage of lockdown. A great place for Northern Chinese food!

To order, we wrote down what we wanted on provided slips of paper. We ordered saliva chicken, pan fried bao, braised beef noodle soup, and Dan Dan noodles. The good: the braised beef noodle soup had noodles that were obviously freshly made by hand. The noodles were thick and chewy, and the soup was rich and flavorful without being too salty. The mediocre: saliva chicken was underseasoned and needed 75% more sauce, 25% more salt, and 200% more chili. Contrary to what the name implies, it did not make me salivate. Not. One. Bit. The dandan noodles were also disappointing. I was expecting a noodle with less soup and a lot of chili oil, but this was less spicy than a junior chicken from McDonald's. Again, more salt would have brought out some of its flavors. The final disappointment were the pan fried bao. It bears the same name as the soupy, crispy, Shanghainese breakfast food, but it was anything but satisfying for my nostalgia. Instead of thin-skinned, soupy buns, I got thick, fluffy buns. They were alright in flavor, but the name was super misleading. The bad: the tea tasted awful. Maybe the teapot was freshly washed, or the water was meant to clean pots. Either way, it tasted like detergent. For my own health, I had to ask for ice water. While the food and service didn't kill me, I probably wouldn't come back. There are better options in the area.

I ordered (take-out): # XLB (Pork) # Pork seafood dumpling (boiled) XLB skin was thicker than I preferred, but had a homey taste to it. Not as delicate, but it kept good amount of soup inside. The taste/integration of soup and meat was average. Though it is not wow at all, if I dine in the restaurant and order this as a side, that would be a great addition to the table. I felt that this ordinary yet homey and genuine XLB somewhat represents my impression of the restaurant . Pork & seafood dumpling was good. The wrapper was tightly sealed, keeping the flavor inside. We got our food within 5 minutes from ordering. We ordered the Chicken Cutlet Omurice (4/5), Spicy King Akao (4/5), Croquette (3/5). The Chicken Cutlet Omurice was filling. The cutlet's breading was different to the usual ones we've had. The curry sauce as well. It tasted a lot like a home-cooked meal. The Spicy King Akao was a bowl of heartwarming ramen. The noodles were bouncy with a perfect chew to them. It wasn't as spicy as I wanted it to be but they do have chilli sauce on each table. The meat had a nice char to them giving this ramen a hint of smokiness. The Croquette was crispy on the outside and the potato inside was smooth. Overall, the portions were decently filling. They also have Cotti Coffee in the same restaurant which was nice.

We had some scallion pancakes which were nice and crispy, and very flavourful. Then, some dried beancurd sticks that were just the right amount of spiciness. Do keep in mind the beancurd sticks are cold (it surprised me the first time I had it). Finally, we had some honey garlic chicken wings. They fry their chicken wings really well, and they don't overdo the sauce which is great. We did have trouble fitting all of this on the table since we ordered so much. We managed, but just keep this in mind if you like to order a lot of appetizers. We each ordered a main. My boyfriend had the lemongrass chicken with egg on rice, which he enjoyed. We also ordered Pumpkin Pie with Red Bean Filling, stir-fried rice noodles with bean sprouts, Juicy Chinese Pork Burger, and their Juicy Cheese Beef Burger. Everything was quite good especially the Chinese Pork Burger. The outer shell was so crispy and the pork meat was so juicy and was seasoned just right. The Taiwanese Braised Pork rice was good but definitely not as good as in Taiwan lol. Also, if coming here, you have to try their signature pan fried buns. That is what they are known for. The current Summer deal is great value, at $15 for a sparkling drink, fries, and a basic ramen. You can also add gyoza for free as part of the presto deal, and makes for a great value meal! The ramen broth is flavourful and comes out hot, and makes for a delicious ramen. Have also tried other options like the Beef Mazemen, which again tasted authentic and fresh.
