Lanzhou Beef Noodles Soup with thin flat noodle
    Sarah A.

It's easy to overlook this unassuming spot in the dense web of Nippers Corner businesses. However there is much to be discovered for those who take the time to check it out. The nearly-lost art of hand pulled noodles is an experience unlike any other. This restaurant specializes in an authentic Chinese beef noodle soup with custom levels of chili oil added to the spicy level of your liking. The hand pulled noodle options include varying thicknesses of round and flat shapes. The dough is smooth and bouncy, pulled with perfectly consistent thickness, and then cut and cooked for the perfect slurp and bite. Service is kind and attentive. The last time we went we opted to order an orange chicken entree to go in order to pack lunches for the next day, and they waited until the end of the meal before bringing it out, packaged for transporting home. The extra care and consideration was thoughtful. If you're craving Asian comfort food or are looking for clear broth with noodles, don't skip over this spot in the popular Nippers Corner!

Lanzhou Beef Noodles Soup with Chives Flat Noodles

I got the classic beef noodle soup with a flatter noodle. Because the noodle was wider, there was more of a chew. The noodles were cooked perfectly so it still had a very nice texture and chew. The broth is very light and salty. It didn't have a really deep flavor. Instead the salt was overpowering all other flavors. It pairs well with the cilantro and chives. I got it spicy but it wasn't really spicy at all. On a cold day, it really hit the spot. I would say that it's similar to the taste of pho but slightly different. I highly recommend this place, it's very authentic and not americanized at all.

My friend and I shared a soupy and dry noodle dish. Both were amazing. For the pickled vegetable beef noodle soup, we got the wide flat noodles. Definitely hand-pulled in house. The broth was light and comforting. The meat was tender & the pickled veggies were soft. The other noodle dish was packed with flavor too. It wasn't necessarily dry as it was drenched in sauce. I highly recommend trying both types of noodle dishes. The chili oil on the side enhances everything! The employees are kind. The inside is on the smaller side but can accommodate large groups as needed.

wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. prompt, friendly, kind service, fresh ingredients, everything tasted like it was made in house... a fantastic meal overall. bf and i had the "a" and "b" set meals, plus bao and dumplings. i've never tasted broth like that, and the noodles are scrumptious and made with so much love. we saw the chef peaking over the window, anxious to see if we liked the meal. have never had lanzhou style noodles, but it reminded me of all the superb chinese food i had growing up in san francisco. please go and try everything on the dang menu!!!

I had the braised beef noodle soup. The best noodles I had ever had. The dumplings were excellent!

We wanted…read morenoodles, and figured this was going to be just another noodle bar but to our surprise, it was an authentic Chinese restaurant. Nobody was inside, it was just the two of us. Very quiet. The owners spoke little English, but the food was amazing! I highly recommend going.

She was so happy to have found a place that…read moreserved Chong Qing Broth and Sliced Noodles which she missed from her undergraduate years in Hawaii. It was an interesting restaurant as we walked in. The decor didn't come across as Chinese. I'm glad my daughter was familiar with the place because I would not have known to go to the back counter to order. I tried asking a couple things about the menu but could not understand the worker that well. It seemed that he couldn't understand me either because he initially put in the wrong orders -- my daughter caught it before we paid. Very reasonable prices. I ordered the Roast Duck Noodles with the Marinated Egg added. My daughter got her usual "Build a Bowl" of Chong Qing Broth, Sliced Noodles, Steak and Fried Egg. I thought I had ordered a Shrimp Wonton appetizer, but a bowl of soup arrived. After asking the worker about it, he just kept saying it was soup (I know), so I just left that alone. Overall quite delicious -- very authentic Chinese flavors. Excellent house made noodles. The depth of flavor in the broths was fantastic. The proteins were seasoned nicely and cooked well. The bok choy in my soup still had a nice bite. The fried egg was crispy on the edges and perfectly runny in the middle. Unfortunately, I found the marinated egg too salty. Service was minimal -- after ordering, the food comes out and that's it. If you need something, you have to get up to ask. No one checks in. The area wasn't busy when we arrived, so parking was very easy right in front. I'm told it does get tough during peak times. I would definitely return for the food, not the service.

For the Kra Prao Moo Kai Doo, the Minced pork was very moist with plenty of flavor. There was a ton of rice served with it lol. The…read morebase of vegetable broth mixed with coconut milk was creamy yet not heavy (with a blend of yellow and red curry spices, according to the menu -- sadly I am not that well versed in curries!). The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the tofu was browned to perfection. The grilled broccoli and cauliflower were snappy and contrasted well with the rest of the ingredients. The dish had a spicy yet tolerable kick to it, but I have a very high threshold for spice and heat (I added chili oil to take it up a notch!). Also, the portion size is BIG. I was very hungry so I had no issues finishing most of it, but it could easily be shared between two adults, especially if you order an appetizer or side. I loved the interior decor, which was simple yet eye catching. The mural encompassing the entire space in particular looked really cool. The place was packed, but the friendly staff were hustling to keep the line moving.
