This place always has a long line out the door and it's easy to see why. It's popular with students and locals alike, as the price point is good for the Bay and the portions are ginormous. I didn't have any trouble finishing my dish though, so I might have been extra hungry :) You can't make reservations ahead of time so get here early to queue, especially if you're in a big group. They do a good job of moving the line along and even ask you to order while in line on their iPad, which means things move that much faster. The dishes come out right away and are fresh without burning your tongue. I got their house special which features nicely marinated bone broth with noodles and beef rib. You can order spicy or non-spicy. Everything was delicious, not to mention filling. They have other noodle dishes that seemed worth trying so I would recommend this for any noodle lover or carnivores. The place is packed so not great for large groups but any table less than 4 will have a cozy time with delicious food. Located near UC Berkeley, this restaurant doesn't have parking readily available but you can park on a side street and take a stroll over. Despite that, they've really optimized their table turnaround time - you get seated, order and pay from a tablet, and get your food relatively quickly. Their tipping options still have a 15% option, which is really rare now. Indoor space is quite small and on the noisier side since the tables are relatively close together. They serve a variety of noodle soups. My favorites are the pickled vegetables with fish and the beef rib soup. Portions are generous and the food is cooked well. The beef rib is very tender and flavorful and I like the addition of crispy soybeans in the soup to add a bit of texture. The noodles are also made well. They look like hand pulled noodles and have a nice chew. My one complaint is that the soups are on the oilier side, but if you're a college student you don't need to worry about that. read more

Let me tell you... the portions here are meal-prep worthy but you have to be willing to wait in a LONG line. I came here on a Friday night (~5:30 pm) and didn't get in to eat until almost 7. Thankfully, the food comes out verrryyy quickly so it wasn't a long wait after going inside. The beef is super tender and the noodles have the perfect amount of chewiness! I don't think the spice level at either low or regular is intolerable, but I picked low spice because I'm not a huge fan of the chilis floating around at the regular spice level. Again, you'll have leftovers for days from this place, making it super worth your while. I would caution against coming with huge groups though.. the tables are tiny, and with a group of 7 we were packed into the small hallway section like sardines LOL. The service is insanely fast and within minutes of ordering our food was delivered. The beef noodle soup--no wonder it's a house special because it's one of the best ones I've had in awhile (granted I don't eat it that much lol). The broth so so rich and flavorful and the meat was so tender it practically melted in my mouth. The wontons in chili oil weren't my favorite necessarily since it was more oil flavor than spice but it was still a good try since the wrapping was nice and thin. Only street parking available, be sure to keep an eye on your meter time because we saw a lot of cars being ticketed. The seating is a little cramped at times and you can almost always expect a line whenever you go, but it is well worth the wait and the service is pretty quick. You have options of thin, thick, and rice noodles but my preference is their thick noodles. Their portions are pretty big for all their items so you can easily share with a friend or eat to your heart's content with leftovers.
