We wanted to try Nonna Lia's tiramisu bowls instead of ordering a traditional cake. I texted ahead to a bbt location in North York that showed they carry the Nonna Lia's cakes. Oddly enough, it wasn't the bbt place that responded... I think it was actually the manager for Nonna Lia. They responded within half an hour and was able to confirm the flavours I wanted should be well stocked there. But truthfully, it was a "go there and find out" type situation. Luckily they had all the flavours we wanted to try. The original is fantastic!! Tiramisu with the right textures, rich but light cream, and not too sweet (the ultimate asian praise). We also tried pistachio which was not my favourite personally. I think it could have been more nutty but I know it's one of the more popular ones. I had a bite of earl grey and WOW I want to get that one again so I can really taste it thoroughly. I love the idea of earl grey flavoured anything. I'm so biased but there you have it. Really great cakes in decent portions. It's a bit pricy so definitely more of a rare treat I think. I wouldn't be just buying one for snacking regularly. I understand though that the owner behind the cakes took a lot of time to source authentic ingredients, so the price could be well justified. But the taste is just okay. On top of that, they offer gelato bars and semifreddo. Inside the store is nicely decorated with little cute decorative pieces. It's the best tiramisu my gf and I've had in Toronto. Those claims about "best tiramisu in Toronto" appear to be accurate. The cake was light, the mascarpone was so airy, the espresso penetrated the lady fingers so well (no pun intended lol). At $20 a pop for one tiramisu do I think it's worth it? Absolutely not haha. I get that it's a novelty dessert. But frankly, these containers should be no more than $15 (and that's already very steep for the size imo). I know they import their stuff over from Italy. If you are not a tiramisu aficionado and you don't need cream of the crop tiramisu, there are other options around. This will definitely beat your non-specialty, pastry-in-the-window, tiramisu. But I dare to say you might be able to find something just as fantastic inside a nice Italian resto somewhere in Toronto. The one bonus in their favour though, is that they're open until 9 pm at least. A lot of dessert places close too early around the GTA. read more

Ordered delivery to try this most vital tiramisu place and it did not disappoint. I had a placed my order the evening prior and although I did not know when during the day it would arrive, it came by noon so it was a nice surprise. Ordered 4 flavours to try: - classic tiramisu - hazelnut - earl grey - mango passion fruit The classic and hazelnut one had espresso in it. The other two did not. The classic was good! It wasn't overly sweet or too rich. It was perfect! The hazelnut tasted just like a Ferrero Roche - my 5 year old and husband loved it. Seeing a lot of ads about this place? Well, me too and the pictures were enough to sending me rushing to try this. First visit with my mom, was pleasantly greeted by a young gentleman who took his time to explain the menu to us and mentioned that coffee comes with the order. All straight wins so far. Coffee was great and best enjoyed whilst seated in the cute dated nona's living room with books from 1920s. Rushing home, we couldn't wait to try the pistachio and Earl grey tiramisus. Both superb and I know many are wondering if it's worth $22 for the special flavors. The answer is a resounding yes. Not only is the quality great but when you factor in the coffee it really works out to be $18 a pop. Now, I'm hooked. I go back a second time with my partner who got lost in the books and offered to buy it. The store owner was so gracious and offered to lend it to my guy as long as he promised to return it. I digress. Back to the desserts. This time I got Hazlenut, mango and another pistachio bc it's my all time favorite along with the Earl grey. TL;DR - pricey but worth it for an occasional quality treat! Nonna Lia is the legacy of a great-grandmother born in a little town in the Italian Alps over 100 years ago whose recipes have passed down through generations and is now a piece of Italian history that we get to experience! With a reputation for making high quality and authentic Italian desserts, there was no surprise that when I tried their tiramisu, I thought it was the best I've had in the city. Now hear me out - I'm no tiramisu connoisseur but I think anyone could taste the difference. The tiramisu here is a delightful balance of fluffy and light as well as creamy and rich. It doesn't leave you feeling like it's too sweet or too heavy, yet it's got enough weight to feel satisfying as a dessert. Maybe it's got to do with the fact that they only use mascarpone cheese imported from Italy, or that they use freshly brewed Italian Arabica coffee, or maybe it's the 15-hour resting time. Either way, the tiramisu is definitely a tier above the rest. I tried the pistachio and earl grey tiramisu boxes and preferred the pistachio flavour. Interestingly, I felt that the strength of the coffee in each one was adjusted to match the accompanying flavour in a way as to not overwhelm it. As I prefer stronger flavours, the pistachio had a more rich and nutty taste infused into the mascarpone and the ladyfingers were soaked with a stronger coffee taste. The crumbled pistachios on top added a nice touch as well. Hot tip: the prices are currently cheaper on Ubereats rather than in store (there's been a promotion for a few weeks now). It's cheapest for pick-up (~$15) but still shaves a few dollars off for delivery (~$17)! read more

It's not a place to sit down in the summer and have a dessert since it's very hot inside. Parking is challenging to find right beside the store but there is a lot nearby for a couple dollars. As some of you may know, on my spare time, I browse ubereats to find out what's new around me. When I saw a Nonna Lia close to me, I immediately added to cart and checked out! Because I need to run errands, I went for pick up. The location wasn't difficult to find and was on Bathurst with a little parking lot next to it making pick up hassle free. The staff was friendly and had my order ready. He was thoughtful enough to include a stash of napkins and spoons for me in case I want to dig in immediately.
