Great neighborhood bike shop. Dwight is very knowledgeable. The store is handy and very close to my house. Lots of bike accessories.

This place is AWESOME! I had never gone to a bike shop before, but I reaaallyy needed a tune-up. I ride my bike daily, and it was just getting run down. I walked up the street to Nokomis Cycle, and went right on in. The shop is super cute, small and had a ton of variety. There was a cool display bike that was Ghostbuster themed, super cool. I let the guy know I needed a tune-up and whatever else my bike may need. He was a man of few words, super nice, super knowledgeable. He called me up a few days later (super busy because of Corona and everyone wanting to bike) and my bike was ready! He even put on new grips, and a new waterbottle holder- lord knows I needed 'em. Very affordable, and glad to support a small and local business, now more than ever. Would recommend this shop to anyone in the city. Thanks! read more

So, I'm not some super biker. In fact, I have an old Huffy cruiser with a pink bell and a basket on it that my father traded something for and then fixed up for me. I was not looking for some crazy ass road bike or a sweet $2000 mountain bike. No, I wanted a cruiser-style bike that could help me get up hills and around the lake without causing me to kill myself in the process. Duh. My brother is a bike person and swears by Nomokis Cycle. Based on this fact alone, I hearby declare my brother the inferior Murphy child. To the d-bag who is always working when I go into the store, let's get one thing straight. I may not have been birthed from between Lance Armstrong's muscular man thighs, but this does not mean I'm not worthy of owning a sparkling new bike. Also, it is incredibly rude to be mean to someone's mother especially when that someone is standing right next to her and has her stimulus check in her bank account and is eyeing up a $500+ bike. One more thing, I know you are fixing bikes back there but, why are you wearing an auto mechanic's jumpsuit to work? You look like a total tool bag. read more

I made a major error when I decided to bring my bike into this god awful shop. I am all about shopping locally, but this place made me think twice about giving places like this a chance. After buying a bike at a police auction, I needed to bring it in for some work. On the way home, we swung into our neighborhood bike shop, Nokomis Cycle. Big mistake. At first all seemed to be going well. The guy checked it out and said he'd give me a call once he had a chance to look at it. 5 days pass with no call, so despite the fact that he told me NOT to call him, I did. I inquired about whether or not he'd had a chance to look at my bike. Response: "Nope." "Okay," I said, "then I'm going to come pick it up and bring it somewhere else," hoping that this would provide him with an opportunity to offer to take a look at it in the next couple days or at the very least, give me a time line. Nothing. Several hours later, I go in to pick it up. When he finally stops ignoring me, I tell him who I am and what I'm there for. Once again, an opportunity to offer an apology or to say that he did, in fact, look at it in the interim. Nothing. Instead, the guy hands me an estimate. "I looked at it yesterday," he says, "and it's all ready to go." Problem? Not only did he not tell me this when I called, but he'd gone ahead and done the work without asking! Second problem? It's not my bike. Instead of the old Schwinn World I'd brought in, he rolls out a fairly new Raleigh. When I tell the prick this is not, in fact, my bike, he continues to tell me it is. Repeatedly. Now I know what bike I brought in and he's acting like I'm some kind of crackpot for not knowing my own gd bike! Finally, he goes to the back, scratching his head, moves a bunch of bikes around and goes to the basement, where, lo and behold, he finds my bike! "Did you have a chance to look at this bike?" I ask. "Nope." And that's it. No apologies, no nothing. This arrogant a-hole is one of the reason bike shops get a bad name. I would never in a million years go back to Nokomis Cycle and would recommend anyone else who is thinking about it go elsewhere. Customer service is what keeps people coming back to stores; this guy's dim sense of what that means deserves an F in the customer service department. Dwight fixed my flat tire today. He's not a big talker, but he has an awesome Midwestern accent. I made acquaintenses with him because I live right around the corner and will probably be hitting him up everytime something small and dumb happens to my bike because I am a moron about stuff like that. I walked out of there with a blinky flashing red light and a bike that is ready to ride!! Tire repair was $10 and the light was $15. Wahooooo!!!!! Go summer!!!!!! read more

Finally, someone had the Electra Coaster I was looking for. I am sorry other bike shops, but I don't want to order a bike sight unseen. I want to ride it home! The guy who helped me here was really nice, and was nice enough to match the price I was quoted on my Electra at another bike store. Perfectly good experience. read more

The owner of the store assisted me when I went in and was in no way friendly or helpful. I went there instead of a big box store hoping for good service, but I felt like I was inconveniencing him. Then when I looked at my receipt later, I saw that he charged me an additional $5 which I can only assume was to pay for him installing a light I purchased, which took him under 5 minutes and he did not mention any cost for installing it. As soon as I used the bike, the light kept falling off the element that attached it to my bike and the light would go crashing to the ground as I biked. I took it back in today and again, the owner was there, he did not greet me or ask how he could help, again I felt like I was an inconvenience. When I explained the light was falling off, he said no one else had had a problem before, he had that light and hadn't had a problem, and said, "if you want to buy a new one, you can do that." Why on earth would I buy a new light if the last one I bought didn't work to no fault of my own? Whatever happened to the customer is always right? Or at least a sentiment of feeling bad if something you sold and installed didn't work right for a customer. I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible, so I just left with my broken and scuffed up light. I will not spend another dime at this place, I stopped in Hub Coop bike shop and they seemed really friendly and helpful so I'll go there next time. read more

I ve boughtt 4 bikes to be fixed by Dude in a weeks time. Going there now with another. . He is a man of few worrds which I find refreshing. No syrupy sweet small talk here.He's a repair man, not Jimmy Fallon. He did 4 different repairs, ready the next day. Called when they were done.. All in under 70.00 for all. My experince has been great and I'm buying a bike there next week. That's my experience.I go there all the time. read more

DON'T TAKE YOUR BIKE HERE! I had a most unpleasant experience a few years ago and feel compelled to share my story. I brought my bike in for a tune up and was told to come back in a few days. I did so and was told that he (Dwight) hadn't looked at it yet. A couple weeks later, I called to check in about the bike and he was very rude! He told me that after so many weeks, if someone doesn't come pick up their bike, he gives it away-- and that's exactly what he did-- he gave it away, telling me "Someone got a real nice bike!" I couldn't believe it! He said he called me. According to my phone bill, I never received a call from him. He got so defensive and angry when I confronted him about it. I wrote to the BBB as a result. I'm surprised this shop is still in business. I'm curious to know if other women have had a similar experience (i.e. rude, condescending behavior, flippant, angry, socially awkward). read more

An excellent local bike show. The owner knows his stuff and will often do repairs far cheaper than other shops.

Am dealing with Dwight at Nokomis Cycle. Seam to be ok . Am not in same state,I live in Homewood,Illinois and am buying a bike from him.As of yet no info on bike,but am not jumping on him. After all the bike is set up at his place for show,only one there so he has to brake it down to be shipped. Let alone do his repairs,sell bikes,parts so on. I think the man could use a brake of some people coming down on him. Sometimes you have bad days. Maybe you should point that out if he seams to be that way to you that day for no reason.Some people do need this pointed out, I can not say But he is being fine with me and seams to be fine with more than not. read more

The guy is a condescending creep. Acts like he's doing you a favor. Not only did he do a poor quality work on all the work I asked him to do, on a rebuild of a bike he actually lied to me. When I picked up the bike I noticed the headset was loose, he said oh no it's your hub, did not feel like arguing with him. I went home and adjusted the headset myself and everything was fine; nothing wrong with the hub. Second the bar tape on the drop bars was put on poorly one of the brake levers is not level with the other one. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

I take my bike here because it's walking distance from my house, and Dwight (?) always does a great job. I took in a bike that had been abandoned and cut loose from a sign post. It was not rideable when I took it to him, but $110 later I had new brakes, new tires, and all the gears had been cleaned and regreased. I also seem to have a problem with blowing tires, but he hooked me up with some kevlar tires and special liners and so far no problems. Four years later I'm still riding this old bike, but I'll go to see him first when I need a new one. Customer service? Well he has his own special charm, that's for sure. He may come off as rude sometimes, but I know first hand that he's also incredibly supportive of the neighborhood association, and a generous business owner that cares about the community. I understand many folks may not be privy to that side of him, but in light of some of the negative comments, I thought it only fair to mention. read more

Dwight is a good dude. I bring my bike in for service on a regular basis mainly because I know that I'm not going to get screwed. I've had bad experiences at other shops in town being a little too proactive about replacing parts on my bike. One the rare occasion that I've had an issue with work that has been done on my bike, Dwight has always made it right. read more

So cramped you could trip on anything if you don't pay close attention and pulls prices out of their arse (made up a price for me based on surrounding items and wound up being charged almost double). Educate yourself on pricing before you make a purchase. read more
