John at Flanders saved my life. For real. I reached out to ask about helping me with my brakes, as they were rubbing on the front wheel of my bike. He answered my email right away and recommended a great day/time to stop by. Turns out the wheel wasn't correctly anchored in the release, plus the brake pads were skewed AND the brakes needed to be adjusted; disaster averted! It took him no time to assess the problem and fix it. He charged a nominal fee but, really, the guarantee that my bike would function safely was priceless! I also shopped for a few items while I waited. The shop is so cool, decorated with all sorts of memorabilia from years of local bicycle racing. That was really interesting and kept me walking around the whole shop to check everything out. And find more things to buy, ha ha! They take such great care of my high end dream bikes and complete the services I need in a quick and timely manner. Came in on a Saturday afternoon after riding my bike to Lake Bde Maka Ska and getting a flat tire. Dropped off my bike here and the person said it'd take about 10-15 minutes, so we went across the street and got some coffee at Bob's Java Hut. Came back about 15 minutes later, and sure enough, he was done fixing my flat tire. He explained what he looked at and what the cause was, and it was only $16.64 total. Took my bike here for a tune-up when the chain slipped off the gears and needed to be greased all over. The price of a tune-up at Flanders was considerably lower than a neighboring bike shop. They also cleaned it up which was nice. Told me the front wheel was not on completely tight, so I feel safer on the bike now. Well worth $50 in my opinion. What kind of bike shop person are you? Your answer might predict whether you like this place. Flander's is a bike person's bike shop. That means if someone asks you what kind of bike you ride and you tell them, "One with wheels," this place might be overkill at best and intimidating at worst. The staff can be a bit aloof. They prize the engineering and performance of the sport. I'm virtually certain none of the staff have ever attended to a symposium on customer service and being a salesman. They let the quality speak for itself. And they really know bikes. They can repair anything. I even got a wheel built up there in a very timely way that a local chain had seriously compromised. They also have a superb collection of used bikes in addition to their nice collection of new and elegant Bianchi bikes (among others). Bike shops are like coffee shops. They all have the same basic stuff but the details and the personal taste of patron and proprietor are what make it "your place." If you love fine things and aren't intimidated to ask questions, this place is second to none. If you are a weekend cruiser type, there's probably more novice friendly places out there. read more

After riding around for a week on a tube filled with fix-a-flat I thought it was about time I get it fixed more permanently. Walking out of the bank to a once again flattened tube also helped me get my bike to a shop. Luckily I was one block from Flanders Brothers. Even though it was over 90 degrees I felt riding my bike was a better option than waiting for the bus and sitting next to who knows what kind of hot sweaty mess. So I wheeled my bike in, and the guy at the counter was just finishing up a transaction. I just said "So, I just walked out of the bank down the road" and he said "uh oh!" just looked at my front tire and said yeah that'll just take about ten minutes. So I wandered around the store looking at some more gear and it was less than eight minutes before he brought it back out all finished for $12.47 Great job and probably easier to get to than some other shops. I'll go here for repairs. But, they didn't have pedals that I want so that was the one slight drawback. If your bike needs a tune up or you have a couple flats maybe need a new chain I'd suggest Flanders. But if you're looking for a bike under $500 you should try somewhere else. read more

Knowledgeable, helpful staff who aren't pushy. I just bought a bike from them after shopping around at several places and I really found myself most comfortable at this shop. My response to some of the other reviews on here: As for the reviews who say they are pricey - you get what you pay for. They were actually asking less for the bike I bought as VS another shop I visited. Also, I am a "weekend cruiser" type and I still found them to be my favorite shop, so I disagree with reviews who say they are only for "serious cyclists." I would actually argue that they are just a better fit for a mature (not old!) crowd. Got a great bike at a fair price, and they even threw in a free kickstand to boot! Thanks! read more

Walked in there only for the bald man working to assume that the people I was with (who are smaller people) were kids and was instantly disrespectful, and aggressive. He then continued to say "you can't afford that so don't touch it" to everything my friend was looking at. I visited Flanders Brother's when I bought a bike off Craigslist and needed to have the brakes adjusted. Josh, one of the employees, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Before I left, he insisted on adjusting my wheel at no charge. There was a 2.5 hour wait for the brake adjustment and I ended up being in a hurry that day, so I went somewhere less busy. But there's clearly a reason for the wait. I definitely would have used Flanders had circumstances been different and I recommend them! read more

Awesome experience. I brought my bike in with a flat tire this morning and was taken care of right away. I was told that my flat would be repaired in ten minutes for $13.54. They brought my bike back out with realigned brakes, a tightened front wheel, and a few other small fixes all for the original quoted price. My bike rides so much better after that tune up!! They managed to turn a little flat tire into a great customer experience. After their generosity and top-notch service, I'll definitely be back to Flanders. read more

Flanders is one of handful of bike shops in the Uptown/Lynn Lake area. With that said, it can be difficult for a bike shop to "stand out" amongst money... Thankfully, Flanders does so with its knowledgeable staff and outgoing customer service. If serious cycling is your schtick, this is your shop. They have a fantastic line up of Redline and Bianchi road bikes along with a great selection of cycling swag. Unfortunately, Flanders is expensive. But the reality is you pay for what you get. Personally, I can't drop my wallet here often but when I do, I am thankful for the experience. read more

That said, the guy at the counter took plenty of time to talk with me about what I was looking for and what Flanders could offer before eventually pointing me to another bike shop that had more inventory to meet my needs. The best bike store of all! For anyone having a keen interest in bicycling, this store is without peer. Their selection of road bikes is terrific and their staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. Many high-end bike shops catering to elite road bike users treat any non-racer like an unwanted visitor (there is a shop in St. Paul that comes to mind), whereas Flanders is friendly and welcoming to all. They finished it less than 10 minutes and I spent about $15. I was impressed with how fast, knowledgeable and professional they were. Very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff. On numerous occasions I've popped in to ask how long a repair/tweak might take and they've jumped right on it enthusiastically. I've never waited for more than 15 minutes for service here when other shops quoted me overnight or longer (Flanders Bros prices are typically lower than other shop quotes as well). They are pretty cheap, but not very friendly, and seemed like your run of the mill "mechanics" in the sense that they tell you all this other stuff that needs to be done to your bike to get more money. There has never been music playing there, which could probably help the atmosphere, and the people there weren't incredibly friendly, or at least compared to places like Two Wheels (most recommended bike shop) or Penn Cycle (very nice, knowledgeable people). Cheap service, so I will continue to go for tube replacements and such, but I have no loyalty to them. read more
