I just brought my Specialized Tarmac race bike in here on the recommendation of a fellow racer. We tend to be neurotic about who fixes our bikes. I was in massive need for a tune up, cleaning, adjustments of lots of things and left the bike in their hands for a week. When I picked the bike up it was as good as new - everything I needed done was completed and they went over all the things they did in gory detail. It was exactly what I needed to hear to have piece of mind. Maybe this is overkill for most people, but I think it is good to know for people like myself but also for people with more simple bike needs that by coming here you will have people looking after your bike who really care about doing a great job whether you need an overhaul on your race bike or just a tire replaced on your commuter bike. read more

OPEN during the CV-19 Segue! They limit the amount of patrons in the shop for safety. So VERY glad I brought my beloved bike here to be repaired (for a broken rear spoke). Initially, they warned me that it might take up to two weeks for the repair (due to the amount of bike repairs that they had lined up). Imagine my happy surprise when I got a call a few days later that it was ready! I'm also impressed with their knowledgeable & friendly staff. Oh god, that was a bad idea..crap job! what i needed the to do was to: -cut steer tube, i received it with huge burr still stuck inside steer tube -install a star nut, Star nut was cockeye, i had to fix it myself -press in bottom of headset peice onto the fork steer tube, the worker insisted that i should cut the headset peice cause itll be easier, no buddy do better 5 min job 10 min at most, cost close to 40 usd, couldve bought the tool and do it myself for less but decide to support lbs if i wanted a cockeye starnut i couldve done it myself with a brick , horrible mech read more

We've been buying bikes from this store for more than 20 years. For both children and adults it is a great bicycle store. It mainly sells Specialized bicycles. They were an early adopter on electric bicycles and are very knowledgeable. The service is great the prices are fair and it is one of those small non-corporate bicycle stores that are slowly disappearing and Really are necessary for most people for service and advice. I highly recommend all aspects of the store. Their prices will not beat the lowest Amazon prices, but their service and trade in policy for children's bikes are ideal for the family. read more

I few in from San Fran to meet a friend for a weeklong bike trip. I had shipped out my new Specialized Turbo Creo which I had taken apart but which was causing me difficulty assembling. We drove over to Bicycle Chain to see if they could help. Wyatt checked me in and said you pick it top n couple days. I said sadly, that I Was leaving for the road in an hour. So they convened and Wyatt grabbed all the right tools and got me out the door in less than 30 minutes... and found something that hd been miss-assembled from the start. Thanks a million! Accessible Specialized! If you just go to other big Specialized shops in town, you'd think the least expensive specialized bike is $900. Bike Chain on Lexington offers much more of Specialized's entry level equipment line which is more appropriate for about 80% of bikers out there. For instance, there are helmets that start at $40, not $80 or road bikes for $500. Sure, they're different models, but they're basically the good tech from 3 years ago, or top of the line from 5, so are still very good. Service is excellent and attentive. Bike mechanics are not judgmental or gear focused- they're service and ride focused, making your gear work for you even if it's cheap or bought elsewhere. They lose a star for exactly one of the reasons I like them - if you want to get something above entry-level, it needs to be ordered. Great place to go for service or questions. read more

Crap selection of new bikes but good servicing with amazingly quick turn around. Their new gear selection is below sub par. They seem to have to order everything and that includes basic items such as skewers. I almost wish I did not have to suggest them but their shop is fast. Ridiculously fast even. I have no idea what happens in their basement or how they do it, but if you need something fixed ASAP these are the people to bring your bike to. Every fix they have done has required a few minor touch ups, but fixing a frame overnight is a miracle unto itself. I feel really bad not suggesting them as a retail bike shop. I even bought a floor pump from them a bit above going rate since I felt bad for using their shop but never buying a single product from them. I need to get over it and so does every one else. Their selection sucks and that is putting it politely, but they are fast and that is worth something. Worth even more to a bike commuter. Fair warning when they special order an item add a week or two to the expected date. I do not suggest them for parts, just for quick service. However, that quick service is amazing. read more

These gentlemen took considerable time and care to see that we selected the correct model and size of Specialized e-bike for our intended use. Most importantly, the way that they treated us throughout the entire sales process showed how much they valued our business. Prior to visiting Bicycle Chain we shopped for e-bikes at one of the big box stores in the Twin Cities and walked away feeling discouraged and disgusted. This small, privately owned bike shop has all the gear and knowledge you could ever want. The staff is great and worked hard to get me a replacement part for my Thule bike rack so I could use the rack this weekend. When the part didn't come in (actually Thule sent the wrong part), Dave made sure I was able to get the part by taking one from his stock of racks! Took my (older) bike out after quite a few years of no use. Needed work on the shifting mechanism. First took it to one branch of large bike seller (closer to our house) where I was told there were none of the parts it needed and that they couldn't work on it until November. Took it then to Bicycle Chain where I bought it. They fixed in on the spot (no parts needed!) and then did a full inspection, fixing something else and had it done the same day- with a bill at least half of what I expected. I'll never go anywhere else for bike sales or service again. Highly recommended. read more

Bicycle Chain recently serviced my old cruiser bike. I bought a tire from them that I had a tough time truing up, so figured I'd take it in there and have them make the tire, and the rest of the bike, perfect. I went for their $84 tune up package. They had the bike done two days before the schedule quote. Dave's passion for bikes really showed. He talked me through the tune up, and additional items that were flagged and serviced (small additional cost for new chain, sprocket service). Great service, big passion, quality products. I love the Bicycle Chain because the staff is friendly and helpful, but they are also very skilled mechanics. They have helped me customize my new Specializied Vita that I bought from them, as well as an old Trek I've owned for years. They helped me figure out a good winter setup when I decided to bike year round, and helped me put my bike back in order after a crash.
