Consistently pro service. I'm not an avid biker. Picked it up during COVID and ride 2-3 times a week when the weather cooperates. Not at all in the winter. Still get my share of flats, squeaks, and things breaking. Not a do it myselfer, so this is where I come. Staff are friendly and sometimes are able to make the repair on the spot. Family member went there recently and was treated surprisingly poor. I see lots of 5 stars on here, but I'd suggest reading the 1 star reviews. There are some pretty shocking behaviors coming from the store. Character isn't when you deliver good service when everything is going well, it's when you find good solutions in difficult situations. I have had two experiences with GP and both have been really great. Both times were for repairs - one for a repair and tune-up. The work they did on my rear derailleur after a spill was a lot cheaper than I expected. The tune-up went far beyond my expectation, especially the cleaning they did - wow! It looked totally brand new when I picked it up and shifting was like silk. Again, the price was a lot less than I expected from what I've experienced from other shops in town. So, I have a bike I have motorized with a gas engine kit, and I needed a freewheel moved to a new wheel, and a new inner tube for the other wheel. I came here to buy the inner tube, and see if I could borrow the tool needed to transfer the freewheel. It is no surprise to me that they aren't allowed to work on my bike for insurance purposes, however I was treated very poorly, and they were incredibly uncooperative, unlike other places I have been to, like the hub bike coop. They also charged me $18 to just remove the freewheel, and I was left on their front step with 4 wheels, and no real way to easily leave with my stuff. As I was trying to put two wheels on my bike so I could walk it elsewhere, another person, presumably the manager, came out and asked me to move my bike away from the shop, like I can walk my bike, much less ride it in its current state. I honestly can't quite pin down the exact reason, but I was left with this unsatisfying gross feeling interaction. I did my best to accommodate their policies, from mask wearing, to not bringing my bike inside, and yet they didn't return the favor... read more

I stopped in a couple of times to purchase essentials for my bike. Since the place is so small I was greeted as I walked in the door. They were happy to assist me with lights and a new lock for my bike . They even explained their personal choices and corresponding price ranges. Too bad they are closed on Sundays. Buyer beware. Grand Performance has a near stranglehold on upper end bicycles in the Twin Cities, but after my experiences with them I suggest avoiding them entirely. I purchased a complete bike from them which had a recalled component. This is not the basis of my issues with them as the part was recalled after my purchase. When the part catastrophically failed in a rather dramatic fashion which involved flying over the handlebars I brought the bike back to them. After some back and forth they offered to replace the part entirely for free, but it took a fair amount of convincing on my end as they wanted to charge me per hour for repair. I figured my fight was over when they quoted me a week to get the part and finish the labor for the repair. A week passed and they quoted me two more days. Two days passed and they said it would be ready the next day. The next day it was still not finished. I dug in my heels and explained I would not be leaving the shop until the repair was completed. Miraculously the repair was finished in under an hour. There are numerous cycle shops in the area with quality bikes and who live up to the deadlines they set for themselves. I suggest looking into their offerings if you are in the market for a new cycle. read more

Biking is in the air, and "Betty Blue" my adorable 1970's three speed, was in need of some serious TLC. Lucky me, there is a bike shop is right across from my new apartment! Even before I entered, I knew I was out of my league. I was anxiously waiting for the open sign to flip alongside two "toe-clipper", spandex-clad biking bad-asses. I had my second "oh crap" moment as I rolled my $30 gem past all the shiny, skinny $2000 professional models. Betty Blue was feeling pretty self conscious. Alas, sleek inventory aside, this is a place where all bikes are created equal. I was immediately helped by a young woman and her 12 year old apprentice. She diligently listened to my concerns and walked him through what needed to be done. They checked my brakes, filled my tires, tightened my seat and gave it all a once over. The diagnosis was reported in full bike jargon. While I'm clearly a bike novice, I appreciated that she didn't dumb it down for me. I just nodded and "Oh, yah'd". It was decided if I do any extensive commuting, I should come back for a $75 all inclusive tune up (brake pads, rims straightened, lubed up all over). When it came time to settle up, I held my breath...$6! All I had to pay for was the new handle bar grips they threw on for me. Clearly I didn't go in to drop a wad of cash on a fancy pants bicycle, but to them it didn't matter. It's nice to know there's still some places that put customer service above all. read more

Great little shop. I just needed a bicycle pump and the guy did not try to push anything on me nor sell me anything I did not need. Said if it broke to come back (I'm sure well within reason or wear and tear). Really friendly staff and I would feel comfortable going back in to have my bike serviced or ask questions. Cool neighborhood spot with a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Prices are great and the staff is very helpful. Went in to pick up a new bike lock and find out some information about a better seat. I was surprised to hear that they lend out test seats so you know how it feels on a ride before purchasing it. Plus they aren't trying to sell you anything that you don't need. I'll be coming back into this store to make some future purchases and might even take out that bike seat for a test drive with the hopes of getting a really good one for the rest of my summer riding. I was also surprised to hear that if I do lose my keys to my new lock they will be willing to get me a new set of keys but it will just take some time since it has to be made and shipped from Germany, well at least I got some options :) If you are looking for any bike related items or just have any questions and within the area I would recommend checking out this spot. read more

I've worked with quite a few local bike shops. They've all been pretty good, but Grand Performance rates at the top of my list for quality road bikes. If you simply look around, you'll quickly realize that the same products can be purchased at many bike shops - the little store down the street, the major chain, and the internet all have the same brands of bikes with the same components at varying prices. The service is what sets a store apart. I purchased a bike from GP about 18 months ago, and knowingly paid a little more than I would've at the big chain store that's a bit further from home. That extra investment has paid off many times since: - GP spent time fitting my bike perfectly to me as part of the purchase. This is huge, and many shops charge extra for it. They tweaked it a few weeks later after I'd put in some miles as well. - The 90 day tune up is included; they dialed in all my cables and such the Spring after I purchased the bike to keep it working great. - A few days ago, I totally messed up my own shifting calibration. What can I say? I'm not a bike mechanic. I brought it in, and GP fixed it on short notice to get things working like new. They also noticed my wheel was out of true, and fixed that too for a very nominal price. GP is one of the best bike shops around. They know their business, have great products, and are extremely helpful. If you're in the market for a higher end bike, go see these guys. read more

Poor customer service. I've been in here a total of 3 times and each time no one has provided help. Each single time, I've been looking for something specific, waiting in line. But then a cyclist comes in and they go to the person carrying the bike first. So my thought is, it's a type of shop where you HAVE to know the workers otherwise they'll think you're a nobody. I was trying to support the small guys but every time I was quickly reminded of why certain stores are successful. So, back to the big name shop I went. Goodbye. No business from me ever. read more

I am a pro at fitting my road bike. At least I thought I was. Then when I was racing and having some problems my Chiropractor recommended this shop. They are serious geniuses at fitting and I am hard to impress. Every edge counts when racing and the minor adjustments they made worked. They offer bike service too but I do my own repairs so can't comment. read more

It only bugs you if you are insecure. My all-time favorite bike shop in St. Paul. A friend & I attempted to fill my bike tires with a car tire pump at a local gas station. We failed. It made my front tire completely flat: un-rideable. After multiple calls, we found Grand Performance and ended up walking about a block to their shop. The employees didn't just help me fix my tires, but give me a good laugh as well. Super friendly, knowledgeable, and outgoing guys. Appreciate their assistance very much. If you need anything in terms of cycling equipment, repair, or advice, this is the place. If you want to experience a great small business, this is the place. I have been using GP for 25 years, and I continue to be impressed with the staff every time I go in. An owner (Dan), and mostly young adults who are always extremely friendly and helpful. The shop has very high end equipment, but they treat hard core riders and the customer buying a tube for their 40 year old coaster brake bike with the same respect. I have purchased a custom bike I had built there, as well as an off the rack little bike for my 2 year old grandson - treated with the same attentiveness and professionalism in both instances. I have always been treated as a valued customer, and I have been extremely satisfied with every single interaction. It is a small shop, but they have just about anything you need; if they don't have something in stock, they are happy to get it for you. Always happy to give advice about riding, maintenance, and equipment. Just a great, great bike shop and local business. I can't recommend it enough for anyone and everyone with a bike. read more

I went to Grand Performance for the first time today. I was looking for a new mid-end bike and was sorely disappointed by not only the poor selection, but the horrible service. I was not greeted walking in (clerk was sitting at the desk, starring at his computer) and was not asked if I needed any help. When I finally asked some questions, the clerk seemed uninterested (like I was an old woman who was in the wrong shop) and said they (and all other Twin Cities bike shops (not true)) didn't have many bikes left this time of year. Also, he did not offer to help me test out the one bike that I was interested in. I left shortly after. Grand Performance has a lot of high-end bikes that you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere around town, but the lousy service and lack of selection will keep me from coming back. read more

initially I was concerned about taking my old timey (1970s schwinn) into grand performance since they tend to deal with fancier and new bikes. My worries were soon put to rest though, everyone was super nice and didn't make me feel bad for knowing next to nothing about bikes. Even better was that on a Saturday morning they had time to fix my bike and it only cost about 10 dollars. AND they taught me some neat things about my bike I didn' know! I purchased my new bike from Grand Performance and Dan was gracious to fit me for free. However, although partially my own fault for not educating myself better, I realized within a week of buying my bike that I was undersold on the level of bike I purchased and the recommendation on shoes that the shop made was fairly poor. I ended up going to Now Bikes & Fitness to purchase a new pair of high end Shimano carbon fiber sole shoes at a 75% discount (2 yr old model) and my feet have never been happier. Overall, Grand Performance know their stuff and the mechanics are solid. The space available for the store is what is lacking is what is going to be the eventual demise of the store. Stuff is piled up EVERYWHERE which brudes a sense of disorganization and lack of general caring about their product. Their selection of apparel is terrible (love that they offer Sugoi though). I'll be shopping elsewhere for my nice major bike purchase. read more

I was in the market to upgrade my bike to something more high end and trawled many shops in the Twin Cities through the winter, looking for the right deal. I needn't have bothered, as the right shop for me is luckily right on my doorstep. The level of service and advice is just right. Other shops I visited either did a complete brain dump on me, heavily inflected by their personal opinion (or perhaps stock levels, I suspect) that left me more bewildered and uncertain. GP has the opposite approach. No hard sell, they just answer your questions. The two people I dealt with (the owner and a young lady) had the same approach - let the bike speak for itself and just answer questions directly and honestly. Not only could I have not asked for better service, I wouldn't have known how to ask. They seemed to understand the level of knowledge and experience I was at and give me the right amount of information and guidance. I got a very reasonable deal on a 2012 Bianchi and I couldn't be happier. Put simply, it's a professional and established bike shop that can assist you if you're Bradley Wiggins or if you're very much not (i.e. me), it seems you would get the same level of quality service in either case. I bought my new "supposed" 2011 Bianchi at Grand Performance. Two years later I learned from a Bianchi rep that my bike was a 2010. Overcharged about $300 considering what I actually received. Recently brought my bike back in after my local bike shop found suspected cracks at the top of both seat stays. Bianchi wanted me to take it back where I bought it so I drove an hour into town so GP could look at it. After looking at it for all of 15 seconds they decided it was just paint cracks, thank you and goodbye. I will never do business here again. read more

This shop is really top rate...lots of class. They helped me dial in my bike with a thorough bike fit . Then I bought new shoes and started having IT Band problems. In to the shop I went and Dan (owner) offered up some on the spot suggestions (he had a bike fit to do and only had a few minutes)...no charge. When that solved only part of the problem, I went back for additional help. Mike (?) the bike fitter got me dialed in short order. I heard from people that this shop was high end snobbery. Im so glad I went in to find out for myself this couldnt be more far from the truth! I went in after work looking like a slob and was greeted with a smile and asked if I needed any help. I went in with idea of buying a new bike to upgrade from my current ride that I had bought from a co worker the year before. After many questions that the owner had for me, He said that the bike I had was not only a very good bike but I paid a very very good price and my money would be better spent on making it better for my needs . He could have sold me a bike that was thosands of dollars instead I ended up spending only hundreds and I now have a bike that fits me perfect but is everything I need.
