Life saver! Blowed tire while biking along the river! Quick call and a short walk (thank you IPhone) brought me here. Out back the technician took off the bike he was working on, tossed mine on the stand and had me back on the road in less than 10 minutes. Gave me time to look through this great shop I had never set foot in! A little tip and back out riding. I will come back to buy something some day. They have coffee, snacks and some very cool bikes! One on One saved my trip! I owe many thank yous to Taylor. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A BIKE RENTAL... I thought renting a bike in minneapolis would be easy since it's a bike town. The Hub near Midwest Mountaineer was super cool, but didn't rent bikes. The guy there was super nice though and told us about all the good trails. Erik's in Dinky town says they rent bikes, but the guy didn't actually want to rent to me, so he offered me a dirty old beater for $90/day. Basically he didn't want to straight up turn me down, so he gave me the most unattractive offer possible. I had asked him if I could ride all the way to Eau Claire and return the bike to their store there. I'm sorry I shared that idea. It made him decide not to do business with me. He was super suspicious because I wanted to do a 100 miles? I could have made it a loop! :( I think in MPLS, people just commute; seems long road rides are something only freaks of nature do. Or at least that's the impression Eriks gave me. Freewheel also says they rent bikes, but the guy at the Midtown location straight up said he wouldn't rent a bike to me! I really don't understand why. I didn't tell him about the length of my ride. I just said I wanted a gravel grinder or cross bike for the trails. Why is that bad? He suggested i just ride a Nice Ride (the 40 lb, 3 speed tourist bike that you can only check out 30 minutes at a time). Why do they even advertise bike rental? It's so weird. These places say they rent, but when you try to, they treat you like you're wanting to steal a bike or something. No, I want to give you my money! Sigh. Anyway, I ended up giving up and blowing $250 on a 1977 Trek from Craigslist. It was nice for a vintage bike, but it really needed a tune up before it would be fit for a century. I thought to myself, oh well. I'll just ride to the end of the Gateway trail and back. :( AND THEN ONE ON ONE I learned about One on One at The Hub. I saw a flyer for the All City Championships which One on One helps to host. Holy cow! What a cool cycling event. Look it up on Instagram. So cool! So One on One gets cool points. I ended up chit chatting with one of the employees at the event, and he said I could come back the next day and rent a demo bike from Taylor. And he said I might could consign that Trek through them! What? All my problems solved! The next day Taylor put me on a Specialized Diverge demo bike. Such a sweet ride! He hooked me up with a patch kit in a saddle bag, accessory lock, water bottle, and helmet. And he gave me a great rental rate. And he put the Trek on consignment for me! So I was able to ride a total of about 150 miles safely, comfortably, and fast! Taylor and One on One made a super fun weekend possible. :D Not to mention the store and the basement are rad. Go visit! Ya, Taylor could have turned me down like the others. He could have charged me a crazy rate because he knew I was in a bind. He didn't have to accept my bike consignment. So I'm really greatful. I wanted to buy my road shoes at One on One to give them more business, but alas, they specialize in mountain and cross. IN CONCLUSION In Austin, we're really spoiled. Bicycle Sports Shop and Mellow Johnny's have large fleets of really nice bikes, and the rates are pretty good. You can rent any kind of bike and ride them in the way they were designed to be ridden (oh my!) So I learned to super call ahead when traveling to new cities, even bike cities. COOL VS LAME-O SHOPS In Minneapolis, The Hub, Angry Catfish, and especially One on One were cool. Freewheel near 6th and Cedar had less cool-factor, but the staff were nice. They get lots of thank yous, actually. I bought road shoes from them, and they let me stash my bag at their store over night (because I was riding). They also let me borrow clip pedals. Freewheel midtown (off the Greenway) was lame. Erik's in Dinky town was lame. The end.

    My new girl!

Simply amazing! I haven't owned a bike in a long time, and I was anxious about the prospect of buying one during Covid. But these guys helped me every step of the way! They were knowledgeable, extraordinarily responsive, and quickly got me everything I needed, keeping me updated on everything. They never tried to over or up sell me, gave me options and knowledge of pros and cons at each price point. And outfitted my bike with everything I wanted and needed. And they were simply a pleasure to work with! I think they were as excited to get my new bike for me as I was! I couldn't recommend them more. Thanks One on One!!!

I gave them my 30-year-old Trek 730 that had fallen into a bad state of disrepair because I hadn't ridden in so long and hadn't maintained it. I had regrets afterward, because I had loved that bike, which fit me just right and had taken me many miles. I had thought it was probably too far gone to be repairable and figured it might have gone to the scrap heap. But I contacted the City of SLP, anyway, to ask. A few days later, their solid waste manager contacted me and said the bike was being reconditioned at Jonny Rock and that I could get in touch with them. This I did, and Jon contacted me when the work was done. There it was, my old bike, completely restored and ready to ride again. Better yet, Jon said he was only charging me for the repair as if I had brought it in on my to be repaired rather than charging me for the bike as if I were a new person coming in to buy.

I purchased my Tern GSD here, and have had it and many other cycles serviced here many times. They've always done right by me. They were fantastic for the bike purchase: they let me spend hours test riding different models, and their extensive advice about configuring the Tern was 100% spot on -- from big stuff like the tradeoffs between rear rack / seat options down to tiny details like getting a quick-release key clip on my keyring for the wheel lock key. Wait times for a full service can be long: schedule in advance! You may find cheaper tune-ups elsewhere, but at Perennial you'll get more than your money's worth. They've always been really thorough and thoughtful, tracing subtle noise issues to the root (like the fact that I had the front and back wheels swapped on a bike where they're actually infinitesimally different sizes!). They've made some preventative suggestions that were spot on, such as a nonstandard front mud flap to protect the e-bike motor in winter riding. It's a small shop, and the accessory selection is pretty small. If you want a helmet, for example, you might find more choices elsewhere. But if you want to purchase or service a bike, this is a great place!

I have been a longtime customer of Perennial Cycle and have spent a significant amount of money…read morehere over the years, including purchasing a Yuba Spicy Curry and accessories totaling at least $7,000. Most recently, I came in with my daughter on my Tern HSD to buy several accessories: a Tern Captain's Chair, Tern front loader basket, Tern saddle, and a Yuba Crescent handlebar. The total after tax was $643.12. I rode the bike there specifically because these are cargo bike accessories and fit matters. After purchasing them, I asked whether the shop could install them, since the items clearly would not fit on the bike otherwise and I needed to get home with my daughter. I did not receive a clear answer about whether installation was available, whether there would be a fee, or whether they had time to do it that day. Instead, the interaction became confusing and uncomfortable. I was willing to install the parts myself on site, and I had an Allen wrench with me. I only needed to borrow a 10 mm wrench briefly to hold the nuts that came with the accessories. From across the store, a mechanic I had not interacted with shouted that they "don't rent out tools for stuff like that." I explained that I had just spent over $600 in the store, had spent thousands there previously, and simply needed a basic tool for a short time so I could safely get home with the accessories I had just purchased. The salesperson still could not give me a clear answer and seemed not to understand what tool I was asking for. I ultimately said that I could either return the items or borrow the tool for about 20 minutes. They refused to lend me the tool, so I returned the entire purchase and left. What bothered me most was not just the refusal. It was the lack of clear communication, the dismissive tone, and the unwillingness to help solve a very basic problem for a customer who had just made a substantial purchase and had a child with them. I have worked in bike shops myself, and my experience has always been that shops help customers with newly purchased accessories, especially when the issue is as simple as installing a few bolts or briefly lending a common hand tool. I left feeling like my business and loyalty did not matter. I expected much better from a shop that specializes in exactly these kinds of bikes and accessories.
