Best sandwiches hands down in Litchfield county. Don't believe me? Try for yourself! Loaded perfect BLTs, pastrami, and only the finest cured meats and preservatives. My favorites are easily the andouille spicy hot dogs, cured duck breast's, and kielbasa.

Trust your GPS, because when you arrive at 39 North Street you won't see Nodine's Smokehouse at all. If you're paying attention, what you will see are some signs directing you to a driveway in an ordinary looking neighborhood, and if you take that driveway you'll see the Smokehouse maybe 75 feet away. You will definitely not see it from the street. I've had Nodine's Smokehouse bookmarked for two years, basically because I seldom get out to Litchfield County. I remember Yelpers raving about their beef jerky and bacon and the like. At the Goshen Stampede today, I passed a booth that sold dozens of kinds of jerky, but I summoned up my willpower and resisted because I knew we were pretty close to Nodine's and figured this was my golden opportunity to check out their Yelp famous jerky. Truth is.... I was underwhelmed. At $48 a pound, I expected to be wowed. They offered one variety and I thought it was just ordinary and nothing special. We also picked up a pound of their Applewood Bacon, and in fairness, I have to say that bacon was freaking great ! . All in all, our quarter pound of jerky and pound of bacon ran us $22.40. If you're a bacon lover, you'll probably love Nodine's version.

So sadly, even though I've been in Goshen for years, today was the first time I've been to Nodine's. It's so cute! There's not a lot of room in the store, it's not a sit down place, but it has all the fun, local, food things you never knew you needed. I've never seen so many smoked cheeses in my life, and I'd like to try all of them. New Year's will be the perfect opportunity to try out their sweet and hot wings. They have a deli as well, they had posted about six sandwich offerings but I'm sure would customize as they have available. They did have some premade items that looks and smelled delicious - sausage and cheese baked into bread? The only downside is they posted each have onions, so if you like onions, this is the place for you. The two women working were really nice, offered to help me find anything, and made the adventure very pleasant. When you go down the driveway (because Nodine's is located behind a big white house), the shop is on your left. Be careful coming in and out, because there really is only room for one car at a time (especially in the snow).

Turkey and cheese on a hard roll. Yum!

Came up from Southington, Ct. for the jerky but their great turkey sandwiches. Amazing!!

Had a great pastrami Reuben, made super hot and fresh as I watched. The price was fair for the amount of food. Worth a repeat visit.

They don't wear masks while cutting the meat and they just put Trump signs out front. Too bad--they just lost a long time customer.

From the moment you see the elegant vintage sign and bright red double doors, you know you're in for something authentic. The interior feels warm and welcoming, with a big, clear menu board that makes ordering easy. They have a solid selection of hot and cold sandwiches, breakfast options, and coffee. I went with one of their specials -- it looked like a chicken cutlet or eggplant variation with fresh greens (possibly arugula), roasted red peppers or similar, and what appeared to be a touch of egg or cheese. Whatever it was, it was excellent. The sandwich came on a perfect crusty Italian roll -- the bread was fresh with a great chew and slight crisp on the outside. The fillings were generous, flavorful, and well-balanced. The greens added a nice peppery bite that cut through the richness of the protein and any sauces. It was one of those sandwiches where every bite tastes just as good as the last. Service was friendly and efficient (the guy behind the counter was busy but still took time to make sure everything was right). The place has that old-school deli atmosphere mixed with modern touches -- exactly what you want when you're craving a quality sandwich. If you're in the area and looking for a no-nonsense, delicious deli sandwich made with care, Petraroia Deli is worth a visit. I'll definitely be back to try more from the hot sandwich list (the Porchetta and Chicken Cordon Bleu both caught my eye). Pro tip: Check their hours -- they appear to be closed on Mondays. *Highly recommend the fried artichoke sandwich. .

I love that you get unlimited refills on coffee ($2), which was actually quite decent by diner standards. Where else can you find that nowadays?! Eggs were well prepared and fluffy across the board. I loved that my veggie omelet ($8.75) came generously filled with sauteed mushrooms, sweet peppers, and onions. It came with toast and a side of either fruit or home fries. The multigrain, which our server disclosed was from a bakery in NY, was fresh, well slathered with butter, and far better than it had to be as a non-headline component of the meal. Home fries were beautifully seasoned, though I do prefer mine a little more browned. Fruit salad on our visit included a slice of melon, a few grapes and a slice of orange. Our eight year old got a children's meal with one egg, home fries, toast and juice ($4.50). She enjoyed her fluffy scrambled eggs, which she ate sandwiched between two halves of a generously buttered English muffin. My only nitpick: You could taste a touch of margarine in the eggs, which I personally detest. Still, the food was head and shoulders better than (and half as expensive as) anything you can find at Mohawk Mountain, where we are usually resigned to grub. We are so, so thrilled to find this sweet little place a hop and a skip away from the mountain. It's a perfect place to refuel after early morning ski practice!

And unlike their incredibly high-priced restaurant across the street, al Tavolo, you might actually afford to eat here. The owners have done an admirable creating an environment that's comfortable and low-key without sacrificing their commitment to quality. After all, the phrase "a mano" translates to "by hand," reflecting how the vast majority of items here are made from scratch on site. I come here often for their coffee, which I love for its balance and low acidity compared to Starbucks, etc. But the real star of the show here are the pastries, such as a layered s'more bar the size of a small brick; a variety of gourmet doughnuts (my favorite is the lemon-filled); and "cruffins," a combination of croissant and muffin with a delicious cream filling. My usual go-to are their bagels: slightly crispy on the outside, pillowy on the inside. There's also a full sandwich and salad menu with breakfast and lunch options including salads, sandwiches, a quiche of the day, and other specials. Their breakfast egg sandwiches -- seemingly modeled on the now-famous one at Sagaponack General Store in the Hamptons -- are especially popular. While $13 for a basic egg sandwich is a bit ridiculous even for a gourmet one, you'll have little complaint once you have a taste. While you're perusing the menu and pastries, don't forget to check out the well-stocked selection of farm-fresh cheeses and other Arethusa Farm products. And, if you've got room aftewards, don't forget to stop at the Arethusa Farm Dairy Store for some ice cream -- it's also across the street, next to Arethusa al Tavolo.
