Home made tasty cole slaw with a hint of horseradish, potato salad that actually tasted like potatoes and macaroni salad that was appropriately brined like my Mom made. Great work! Trust your GPS, because when you arrive at 39 North Street you won't see Nodine's Smokehouse at all. If you're paying attention, what you will see are some signs directing you to a driveway in an ordinary looking neighborhood, and if you take that driveway you'll see the Smokehouse maybe 75 feet away. You will definitely not see it from the street. I've had Nodine's Smokehouse bookmarked for two years, basically because I seldom get out to Litchfield County. I remember Yelpers raving about their beef jerky and bacon and the like. At the Goshen Stampede today, I passed a booth that sold dozens of kinds of jerky, but I summoned up my willpower and resisted because I knew we were pretty close to Nodine's and figured this was my golden opportunity to check out their Yelp famous jerky. Truth is.... I was underwhelmed. At $48 a pound, I expected to be wowed. They offered one variety and I thought it was just ordinary and nothing special. We also picked up a pound of their Applewood Bacon, and in fairness, I have to say that bacon was freaking great ! . All in all, our quarter pound of jerky and pound of bacon ran us $22.40. If you're a bacon lover, you'll probably love Nodine's version. read more

Stopped for lunch and found they were closed! After talking with people in the lot who were waiting, found out they had no power that morning but promised to be open soon. We waited! So glad we did because the chicken bacon ranch on a grinder roll made to order as we waited was out of this world. Picked up some smoked kielbasa and some bacon ketchup on this trip. So sadly, even though I've been in Goshen for years, today was the first time I've been to Nodine's. It's so cute! There's not a lot of room in the store, it's not a sit down place, but it has all the fun, local, food things you never knew you needed. I've never seen so many smoked cheeses in my life, and I'd like to try all of them. New Year's will be the perfect opportunity to try out their sweet and hot wings. They have a deli as well, they had posted about six sandwich offerings but I'm sure would customize as they have available. They did have some premade items that looks and smelled delicious - sausage and cheese baked into bread? The only downside is they posted each have onions, so if you like onions, this is the place for you. The two women working were really nice, offered to help me find anything, and made the adventure very pleasant. When you go down the driveway (because Nodine's is located behind a big white house), the shop is on your left. Be careful coming in and out, because there really is only room for one car at a time (especially in the snow). read more

My family went to the ActionLife Zoo and it was way past lunchtime. My neice looked up Yelp reviews, the resulting choice was Nodine's Smokehouse. It was a great choice; the staff was very friendly and accommodating all our questions. The sandwiches and baked goods were outstanding. Everything was so fresh and tasty. Even my 5-year-old grandnephew, who is a fussy eater, finished half his sandwich in record time. Since it's only a takeout shop we went back to the Zoo to eat at their picnic area. Next time we'll get our picnic lunch ahead of time! Definitely will be back to this hidden gem! read more

Bacon I shouldn't have to say anything else, should I? This place has some of the best bacon I've ever eaten. Besides the incredible flavor(s), this bacon holds it shape & size in the pan. They have lots of other great pork and meat products here, along with smoked cheeses & fish (get some fish!) and assorted groceries. While my review may be biased because I'm visiting the land of my birth, I know that plenty of folks come here from far & wide just to eat a sandwich & buy a slab or two of bacon. There beef jerky is some of the best and you buy it by the pound. There sandwiches are delicous as well. The pastrami might have been some of the tastiest i have ever had. Always pleasant and helpful. I have not once seen the employees without a face mask. I have sent their gift packages over the years to many and always well done. I drive from New Milford to the store in Goshen when I want to showcase local businesses and a great sandwich. The locale of this place is worth 5 stars. Set in beautiful CT countryside near Cornwall Bridge, Kent and Litchfield. Nodines is a tiny little shop packed with smokey goodness. I head up here at least twice a year and guaranteed on Good Friday to get my smoked spiral cut ham. After 15 years of making the trip I've never been disappointed. My family and friends look forward to me serving up this pre-cooked-reheat-it-in-the-oven masterpiece at Easter. While I'm there I pick up a supply of slab bacon (4lb for only $28). I'm a big fan of the pepper bacon, but my partner prefers the apple smoked - so I HAVE to get both. I've also tried their game selections which include venison sausages and buffalo burgers. I don't want to get too smoked out so I pass over the cheese, fish and chicken selections - but if you're inclined it's good know it's there. And as you're cashing out be sure to ask for some beef jerky. It ain't cheep at $35lb (but that's a lot of jerky, jerky) but it's a chewy smokey delicious manly snack that you shouldn't pass up. read more

I tried their "Double Smoked Bacon". Nodine's should be fined for fraudulent advertising. Double smoked? It didn't even tasteSINGLE smoked. You can find the same quality of bacon at any supermarket for much less. I'm baffled by the reviews of how "smoky" their meats are --- maybe New Englanders have super-sensitive palates that can detect nano-particles of smoke? Nodine's would go bankrupt in the the rest of the country. I suggest you try these bacons: Benton's, Father's, Scott's and Nueske's. Now, those are smoky goodness! read more

Excellent smoked meats, I've used their chorizo for Portuguese kale soup, andouille for red beans and rice and their English bangers are spot on! All of these items you can get at some of the local markets in the northwest corner but please go to their store in Goshen and pick up one of the house made sandwiches... perfection read more

Nodines smoked meats and cheeses are excellent. I love the smoked duck, the pheasant, the andouille, the venison sausage, and the smoked fish. Their corn nuts are wonderful. A let down. Bought beef jerky and it was so dry and overdone it crumbled in my mouth. Didn't have much flavor to speak of. And $40 a pound? Really? I was expecting the best jerky I've ever had. Not sure what the hoopla is over this place. Owner/manager can't bother to look up when answering questions. Oh well, there's got to be a great place in CT for jerky. It's ok...just that really. We stopped in (after we finally found it) to get lunch and some items to bring home. The sandwiches they had were decent, nothing amazing, small but overall flavorful. We also ordered one or two sides to go with our meal, along with some of their 'famous' (and very overpriced) beef jerky and a package of thick cut bacon to bring home. The beef jerky was pretty bad. Very dry and unevenly flavored. Definitely something I'd never get again. The bacon (which we've since cooked up) was pretty good and probably the best thing we got from there. The service was slow and very forgetful. We got home only to notice they never gave us the other sides we ordered. Not sure if we'd come back...maybe give it one more shot, but it's definitely not the be all and end all when it comes to smokehouses. read more

Just got home from the Goshen fair. Tried their beef jerky after hearing how good it was. Not sure if it was a bad batch but it had no salt, sweetness, spice...nothing. No flavor at all except for a slightly sour taste. 4 friends i was with all who love beef jerky tried it and said the same. I was about to send it back but figured all my friends took so much of it from trying it, that they'd probably say "if its so bad then why is so much of it gone"? It costed $12 for 3 strips! Most expensive and the absolute worst BY FAR beef jerky ive ever had. Had to write a review since it was such a waste of $12. read more

Nodine's has always had quality food. is it better than other brands? maybe, but teh fact that their local and family owned is a great plus. the real star is their beef jerky. it's like somethink clint eastwood would eat in teh movie "outlaw josey wales," real old-school traditional. but its pricey at $36 a pound. definitely better than any other jerky, but expensive. teh rest of their food is really good and their sandwiches are great. teh cost is the real reason i'm not givng a 4 star. def would give them 4+ stars if the prices were a little better.
