Also just a short jaunt off the 102. I am, however, re-evaluating my choice to pick this branch as my default place to buy food, and have found myself more and more using the larger, newer and better stocked Sobeys at the Larry Uteck exit off the 102. But back to this location, access can be a bit of a nightmare during rush hour since both HP rd and the Beford Hwy can get super backed up, and the surrounding intersections become hazardous to say the least when traffic peaks. The inside of the store seems new and bright, though the layout is a bit more confusing than other Sobeys. This could possibly be due to recent renovations, having to overlay a new layout over old infrastructure. Other than that, the staff are super friendly and seem to enjoy working there, which is always a good sign.

The seafood and butcher's area is always clean and well presented, and the meat is delicious. They also have an excellent "Hippy Section", as I've always called it, full of healthy foods and ethical household supplies. I can't think of anything majorly wrong with this location. Sometimes they dont have everything I need (Artichokes, why are you never here?) but they come pretty darn close. It can be a bit tricky to finds things sometimes, but if you've ever played a point-and-click game, you can usually deduce where everything is. No basil in the the herb section? Check with the tomatoes up front. Can't find the pancake batter? Check with the syrup, not with baking. It's either a fun brain teaser, or a deeply frustrating exercise, depending on your mood. Plus the cashiers are always hilarious, which is always a bonus!

So I went to Sobeys to see what I could find. I bought a Caesar salad for under $5.00, it came with two packages of dressing. It was actually pretty good, considering it was not homemade dressing. The size was the medium one. It has freshly grated Parmesan cheese, Bacon, lettuce and some lemons. Not bad really, and then I choose to eat it there. There was a nice section with about 10 tables where you can sit And enjoy your lunch. I thought this was very reasonable and hit the spot.

You should expect that you're not going to get a spot right next to the door. * It's got a wine shop but that's it in terms of liquor. * If you're taking transit, there's only one bus: the #62 which has an unusual schedule. These things are annoying but what happened today was quite upsetting. The product I was purchasing was on sale, but the deal was you had to buy 2 to get the sale price. As it happened there was only 1 left. I would gladly have bought the 2 items to get the sale price but they didn't have 2. Is that really my fault? Should I have to pay the price for their inability to keep the shelves stocked. It may seem like a small thing to some but in these times of rampant inflation every penny of savings counts.

While I was in this shopping complex because we had lunch nearby, I decided to stop in to poke around. I was mostly interested in local drinks and snacks. I was pleased to see they had an entire display of locally produced items. They also had some local goods sprinkled throughout the store. Honestly, other than that, it was just a regular supermarket under the Loblaws banner. However, I liked that they gathered the local products together, so tourists like me and locals who want to support local can easily find products made in Halifax/Nova Scotia. I really miss Safeway and their particular way of doing things, but I think thats more out of homesickness than due to them really being any better.. Actually I've been starting to think that Sobeys is doing much better with regards to their selection than their western competitors..especially in the organic/alternative department and with their gluten free products.. Since I live in the US, its still difficult for me to stomach the exorbitant prices of everything, but that aside I still think they do a great job and I love how well organized and clean everything seems to be.

But if you're a go in, grab some grub, and get out quick this might be the store for you. You don't have to walk for hours to get what you need, and the check-outs were very fast, no lines.
