So I went to Sobeys to see what I could find. I bought a Caesar salad for under $5.00, it came with two packages of dressing. It was actually pretty good, considering it was not homemade dressing. The size was the medium one. It has freshly grated Parmesan cheese, Bacon, lettuce and some lemons. Not bad really, and then I choose to eat it there. There was a nice section with about 10 tables where you can sit And enjoy your lunch. I thought this was very reasonable and hit the spot.

I always enjoy my little check-out conversations with the cashiers. I could take my dollars to the new(er) Sobeys down the street... however this one has charm, character. It sells what a grocery store should... groceries. Not clothing, patio furniture, housewares, etc. I don't have to walk for miles to find what I need either, a quick in and out, just the way I like it (for shopping that is).

Rotten centers in the sweet potatoes being a regular occurrence. Items I would normally buy there I had to shop elsewhere for as they werent fit to take home. They have expanded the ready made section and I often grabbed something for the drive home to snack on. I didnt care for everything I tried but would not return something simply because it wasnt to my liking. Last week I purchased some hot pepperoni for the drive home. Ive been eating pepperoni since I was a kid. I like hot. I do not like mild or honey garlic. I was disappointed as it turned out to be mild. I checked the label but it was marked hot. So this week when I went in I grabbed my items as well as a package of pepperoni around the same price. I brought my receipt and the pepperoni purchased earlier. I have never returned anything to Daves in my life and actually just wanted an exchange. After paying for my other items and waiting for a manager I was denied an exchange and told it wasnt their fault just because I did not find it hot enough. I have had to return things to Giant Tiger, Costco, Sobeys and superstore. I have always been treated well and never given a hassle. This is not the customer service I expected. I was embarrassed and made to feel like I didnt know what I was talking about and I was wasting busy peoples time. They have lost a customer in me and 3 family members as well.

The Slightly Longer Version: This urban grocery store reminds me a lot of The Kitchen Table of days gone by (in Toronto). It has a small amount of groceries and has baked goods from local suppliers as well as prepared ready-to-eat foods. They had some locally brewed kombucha too. Google maps revealed that this grocery store is a short walk from the cruise terminals, though you have to walk away from it a bit because of the railroad tracks. We found displays of maple syrup but had to ask for help finding the maple candy. It was in the bakery department and there was only one option but it met our need. There is plenty of parking for those with cars.

The store is, for the most part, laid out in the order I expect. Some important tips: * It's always busy at this Superstore. Al. Ways. I don't know why but it is. * It's a grocery store. If you're looking for a wide variety of Joe Clothing or other stuff, head over to the gi-normous Portland Street location. * It's parking lot is always full. You should expect that you're not going to get a spot right next to the door. * It's got a wine shop but that's it in terms of liquor. * If you're taking transit, there's only one bus: the #62 which has an unusual schedule. Make sure you know it before you head over.

These things are annoying but what happened today was quite upsetting. The product I was purchasing was on sale, but the deal was you had to buy 2 to get the sale price. As it happened there was only 1 left. I would gladly have bought the 2 items to get the sale price but they didn't have 2. Is that really my fault? Should I have to pay the price for their inability to keep the shelves stocked. It may seem like a small thing to some but in these times of rampant inflation every penny of savings counts.

Their prices are higher than the bigger supermarkets but their quality is excellent - for meat and produce. They do have a front area by the entrance where you can get a variety of food to eat in or takeaway. The special sandwich of the week is always a winner.
