Does anyone else find this Sobey's to be fancier than others? I almost feel out-of-place shopping in this store. I think that since it is a little nicer than other grocery stores the prices are also a little higher. I'm used to going to Superstore and their prices, so when I went to Sobey's I was surprised that the prices were higher. I'd rather go to a not-so-fancy grocery store then pay more at Sobey's. Other than the prices, the selection is fine. They've got your pretty basic groceries in a pretty regular set-up. If Superstore doesn't have something I need I might head to Sobey's. Other than that, I'm sticking to me cheaper, regular grocery store.

You wont be the only one droppings in, I mean dropping in. Same thing found in the same isle each week for over a month now.

I limit what I get here and tend to frequent the superstore down the road. I took pics the past month each week of rat/mouse droppings each time I visit in the cat food isle and always stop on my way out to tell customer service. At months end still taking pics of the cans I moved a certain way and the rat droppings still there I had for health reasons decided to do the majority or purchases at superstore. I also hate the buy one get one sales when they raise the price of the item to double what it was a week prior.

We were in Halifax on a cruise and wanted to buy some Candian treats, preferrably maple candies,…read morefor gifts back home. Google maps revealed that this grocery store is a short walk from the cruise terminals, though you have to walk away from it a bit because of the railroad tracks. We found displays of maple syrup but had to ask for help finding the maple candy. It was in the bakery department and there was only one option but it met our need. There is plenty of parking for those with cars.

Then lower their prices by a fraction of what was raised just so they can act like they're doing us a favor. Highest prices for food in eastern Canada AND the US eastern seaboard. We are poor as dirt here but that doesn't stop them from keeping their prices as high as possible for as long as possible. Shop at walmart, let all their over priced meats rot on the shelves (as they are, just wait a day and 90% of the meat will be 50% off and likely rotten the next morning but they'll gladly sell it to you) Personal peave: Every shopping cart sounds like a dump tuck full of sheet metal because they refuse to service them as it would cost money and might make the whole experience slightly less horrific. If you let a clerk know about a huge spill people are walking all over they'll audibly sigh and roll their eyes at you.

One thing I love about the Superstore chain is that every neighborhood has something special about…read moreit. The one on Joseph Howe might be bigger, definitely has the best Joe clothes line and electronics, and the one on Barrington is open the earliest (7am) which works well when I drop my husband off at the office at the crack of dawn. That said, still my favorite is the one on Quinpool. I love the organization and the great selection of natural, organic and ethnic foods, as if it were a separate store. So easy to find things. The staff is beyond helpful, making sure they take you to wherever the mystery item is supposed to be. Case in point...this morning I was on a mission to find bean sprouts - yesterday being unsuccessful at two other stores. I even went to Pete's downtown and couldn't find any. Pete's is the place I go to for things no one else seems to carry. But not today...today only the Superstore on Quinpool had some. And not yet on the shelves mind you. The sweetest staff stopped what he was doing, went to the back and brought out a box full. Great friendly, efficient service - a huge deal in my opinion. T

I have done most of my shopping at the Atlantic Superstore for many years but I am now looking at…read moreother options. The primary reason is pricing strategies. I constantly see the items I am purchasing, mostly vegan, rise at a ridiculous rate, most often by $1 at a time, then after a few weeks they put the item on sale for the price it was a couple of weeks prior. You obviously think the consumer is a fool? I refuse to purchase at ridiculous prices so unless you stop gouging the consumer I am done with the Superstore. One example is Riviera Vegan Yogurt. It went from about $4.59 to $7.50 in a few months. The second item is the recent addition of alarms for self serve purchases causing the shopping carts to lock up. After a few false alarms and the embarrassment of having my receipt checked, I am fed up. If you do not want to trust the customer then spend some of your fat profit and hire some cashiers and stop with the self serve option. Get back to providing customer service to the people who purchase from you because without them you would not have a business.

It's so nice to have a spot that serves as a baby-grocery store, offering great local produce and delightful items, like cheeses from Nova Scotia and grains from New Brunswick. They also sell goods like maple syrup, frozen local and organic berries, as well as a variety of meats. You can even stop by for lunch, as they have sammies and salads, as well as coffee, tea and sweets. I love biking over in the summer and stocking up on apples. One of my favorite things to buy is their raw milk cheese from Quebec - it's a real treat, and although it only comes in small blocks it really goes the distance with its rich and flavorful taste. I support this business' mandate of offering local and mainly organic food year round, while fostering a very nice community space. You should swing by and pick up some yummy consumables today!

In a cross section done in the recent Coast 'Green Halifax' guide you can see that buying basic items such as: Speerville Mills oatmeal, apples, eggs, butternut squash and chicken-- can be found cheaper at Local Source Market, or at least on par with the Halifax Farmer's Market. Some of the things that I found particularly of note: *The Coast Green Halifax Guide *Boates Cider *Meadowbrook maple sausage *Terroir pear honey and sun gold tomato ketchup *Dragons Breathe cheeses. Lots of great choices at Local Source! Be sure to check the bulletin board for community announcements.
