If you are driving in downtown Brookville and you see the sign that says "Nixie's", you gotta stop!!! I have finally found a place to get a super, fantastic burger, fries and onion rings!!! The food is cooked in an open area where you can see what's going on!!! (You can see how clean the cooking area is!!) It is also cooked WHEN and HOW you order!! The service was excellent, couldn't ask for anything more!!! They have inside and outside seating, inside has tables for 2,4, or 14, you can bring the whole family and not have to worry about a place to set!!! This is not a fancy place, but it is a nice, clean restaurant where you can get great food at a reasonable price!!

Food is delicious. Spot is easy to find. They're up for any concoction you can come up with. Only downfall is prices are high.

Best burger in town by far. I love what they did with the remodel and keeping all the memorabilia.

The cafe is located in the converted historic ROM Webber furniture factory. The Big Four cafe name honors the railroad line that used to pass through town. Courtney, our server, was friendly and attentive. She kept water filled and checked on us frequently. Food came out quickly. I had the Herb and Garlic Chopped salad, which was beautifully plated, fresh and delicious. Romaine, tomatoes, onions were topped with cheese and avocado. The garlicky vinaigrette dressing was tangy. I I also had a cup of the Texas Chili, which was topped with cheese and jalapeño slices. The beef was tender and the soup base slightly spicy. My husband had the Cuban Press (at Courtney's recommendation) and it was tasty and hearty. The sandwich was made using Indiana ham, slowed cooked pork and melted cheese. He said his sandwich was an easy 5 stars. Don't miss the beer battered onion rings which are fresh made and delicious. (I stole a couple of his rings.) There are roomy restrooms with changing tables. Free parking is available in front of the building. Worth a visit.

I noticed the good reviews so we drove an extra 10 minutes which turned out to be a worthwhile decision. Excellent spot for breakfast and the full dining area supports my opinion. Definitely a two thumbs up experience and worth a drive!

Britney is the owner and a great person. You will find her there at many times of the day. She pitches in where needed and helps to keep it flowing when it gets busy. And then the jewels of this restaurant and bar is the staff. The Bartenders and servers are all over the place making sure customers are taken care of and checking in often to give the best customer service possible. All of them make us and everyone that walks through the door feel special. You can also order takeout. But the experience of just being there is worth it. The kitchen is ran like a well oiled machine. They stay busy not only frying chicken but all the other wonderful menu items you will find. We can't not have their heavy peppered fried chicken, mashed potatoes and the best gravy too. Thank you for the opportunity to write this review.

It's an old establishment and a bit on the grungy side, in a good way. Service was friendly and we were checked on. We sat at one of the tables on the bar side. There was some kind of delay in my husband's order and the waitress brought him an extra chicken leg to make up for it. Nice. When you walk in you're on the dining side and there is a fairly high wall separating from the bar. So you may want to mosey to the other side to get noticed. I can see where you could get overlooked for service if you're on the wrong side. The bar has a classic appearance and the decor is country. The parking lot is weird and small, looks like you could get boxed in if you're not careful. There was metered street parking too. Hours of business seem to be in a state of flux so I would definitely call ahead. I was disappointed and very surprised to see they still had Covid fear signs, enough to be annoying, including a request to wear plastic gloves for the salad bar. You kidding me? Five stars for the chicken and hospitality, one for the Covid posturing. I hope to see that long gone when we get back here again.

Before I begin my review, I would be remiss to mention those skeptical souls who think of Lil'…read moreCharlie's, not as a beacon of culinary excellence or a palace of palatial pleasures, but a den where dwell the foulest demons of ignorance of cooking. Charles Baudelaire, before whom I bow as a servant to a master, once said "On peut juger de la vertu d'un homme à ses goûts en matière de nourriture". Well, he technically said no such thing, but I wish he would have. Baudelaire would have smited upon the tongue those fanatic cretins who maintain and uphold the absurd opinion that Lil' Charlie's (Heaven banish the thought!) is a bad restaurant. I have heard many of my fellows complain of stomachaches and nausea accompanying a trip to this paradise of cookery. Alas! they exaggerate their sufferings, seeking to blame Lil' Charlie's for their own puerile digestive system. For those who criticize the food itself, I have no words. Indeed, I must restrain my tongue; for no fire burns too hot for them, no poison good enough to scorch their iniquitous throats, no--but I must hinder my rash flow of words: justice makes me speak thus. Now I shall presume to speak of the menu. Presume, because who can hope to accomplish the feat of expounding, in mere human words, the transcendence that is the cooking of Lil' Charlie's? I feel as Dante felt when, looking into the eyes of his lady-love Beatrice (oh! those luminous eyes 'lucent-weeping from the dayspring'!), he laments his inability to capture the beauty of it in words. To use Browning's phrase: "Poor the speech; be how I speak for all things". If Browning stumbles in his speech, what can I hope to say? Nevertheless, I set sail in uncertain waters, trusting that my words may carry me through. The food itself is the platonic ideal of perfection. The pork sandwich, Homeric in its proportions, leaves no hungry waif unsatisfied. The chicken wings come in divers seasonings. Jamaican Jerk? Parmesan and garlic? Classic Buffalo? Lil' Charlie's has you covered. The salads are a pleasant meal in themselves; one cannot eat them without conjuring up images of sunny pastorals or the Ecologues written by Theocritus, where joy-drunk shepherds recite their bucolic verses to one another. I shall go so far as to compare the summer salad to a painting by Watteau. Such is the magical power wielded by the chefs of Lil' Charlie's. The one stain upon the pure tapestry woven by the Muses themselves may be said to be the Father Franz Chili. It was rather too oily and contained NO beans! Absurd! Maddening! All in all, it was still a somewhat palatable meal. I must end my paean to Lil' Charlie's without praising the many other attractive features that lend it lustre. The atmosphere is homey and attractive; the tables are as clean and polished as a verse by Virgil. I blush with shame that I cannot hymn the staff, angels of culinary perfection, as is fit. All I can add is that Heaven shall reward them the highest sphere among its many mansions. And, to you one young man who laments the time it takes to receive your food (you know your name, oh unfortunate one!), all I can wish is for your tongue to cleave to your jaws and your liver to pour forth upon the earth. Let your voice be silenced ever and anon. FINIS
