Before I begin my review, I would be remiss to mention those skeptical souls who think of Lil'…read moreCharlie's, not as a beacon of culinary excellence or a palace of palatial pleasures, but a den where dwell the foulest demons of ignorance of cooking. Charles Baudelaire, before whom I bow as a servant to a master, once said "On peut juger de la vertu d'un homme à ses goûts en matière de nourriture". Well, he technically said no such thing, but I wish he would have. Baudelaire would have smited upon the tongue those fanatic cretins who maintain and uphold the absurd opinion that Lil' Charlie's (Heaven banish the thought!) is a bad restaurant. I have heard many of my fellows complain of stomachaches and nausea accompanying a trip to this paradise of cookery. Alas! they exaggerate their sufferings, seeking to blame Lil' Charlie's for their own puerile digestive system. For those who criticize the food itself, I have no words. Indeed, I must restrain my tongue; for no fire burns too hot for them, no poison good enough to scorch their iniquitous throats, no--but I must hinder my rash flow of words: justice makes me speak thus. Now I shall presume to speak of the menu. Presume, because who can hope to accomplish the feat of expounding, in mere human words, the transcendence that is the cooking of Lil' Charlie's? I feel as Dante felt when, looking into the eyes of his lady-love Beatrice (oh! those luminous eyes 'lucent-weeping from the dayspring'!), he laments his inability to capture the beauty of it in words. To use Browning's phrase: "Poor the speech; be how I speak for all things". If Browning stumbles in his speech, what can I hope to say? Nevertheless, I set sail in uncertain waters, trusting that my words may carry me through. The food itself is the platonic ideal of perfection. The pork sandwich, Homeric in its proportions, leaves no hungry waif unsatisfied. The chicken wings come in divers seasonings. Jamaican Jerk? Parmesan and garlic? Classic Buffalo? Lil' Charlie's has you covered. The salads are a pleasant meal in themselves; one cannot eat them without conjuring up images of sunny pastorals or the Ecologues written by Theocritus, where joy-drunk shepherds recite their bucolic verses to one another. I shall go so far as to compare the summer salad to a painting by Watteau. Such is the magical power wielded by the chefs of Lil' Charlie's. The one stain upon the pure tapestry woven by the Muses themselves may be said to be the Father Franz Chili. It was rather too oily and contained NO beans! Absurd! Maddening! All in all, it was still a somewhat palatable meal. I must end my paean to Lil' Charlie's without praising the many other attractive features that lend it lustre. The atmosphere is homey and attractive; the tables are as clean and polished as a verse by Virgil. I blush with shame that I cannot hymn the staff, angels of culinary perfection, as is fit. All I can add is that Heaven shall reward them the highest sphere among its many mansions. And, to you one young man who laments the time it takes to receive your food (you know your name, oh unfortunate one!), all I can wish is for your tongue to cleave to your jaws and your liver to pour forth upon the earth. Let your voice be silenced ever and anon. FINIS

The place was somewhat busy and we were a large group of people so we took a lot of space. There were multiple TVs around, a pool table, and even an area in the back where there was a stage and dance floor. Their menu had a little bit of everything from burgers to sandwiches to appetizers. I ordered the Shroom Melt ($9.49) and was looking at the other burger called The Big Mouth. The food came out a pretty long time. The Shroom Melt was not on a regular burger bun but on slices of rye bread. It definitely was different than what would think came with burgers. The Shroon Melt was good especially if you loved mushrooms and the fries were not bad. There was enough food to make you full. Overall, I thought this place was good.

So we came back about 12:30 and the parking lot was still full and it looks like that was all people at the golf course because when we went in there were only three tables seated and probably 6 dirty tables with dishes stacked on them. We were behind a couple of people at the host stand and she went to seat them and said she would be back and then when she came back she said hang on I've got to go do something else so we finally did get seated after a good wait at the host stand. She was going to seat us at a high top and my friend just had hip surgery and couldn't sit at a high top so that was my fault for not saying something up front because then she had to clean off one of those dirty tables to get us a seat. I ordered a smoked Cherry old fashioned and my friend had not decided what she wanted yet so I got mine first while she was thinking about getting one. So I took a drink of it and she took a drink of mine and went ahead and ordered one. I was not too impressed with it it was very Cherry forward and not really boozy but when she got hers it was a different animal hers was boozy like it should be so there was some inconsistency there. Our waitress was nice enough but it appeared that there was not enough help in the restaurant and that may have been what led to all the dirty tables she seemed to be doing a little bit of everything so she wasn't overly attentive to our table. I ordered the carne asada fries and my friend ordered the southwest salad. My friend loved her salad and my fries were fine but we're not real hot and by the time you got to the bottom they were all soggy. This is a newly opened place so maybe they will get better with time and then we will try them again. We will follow the reviews and see what happens.

Secondly, a portion of our family was not going to be able to make it originally due to a sporting event. However, plans were canceled and they were now available. However, there was only one other group of people in the entire room besides us. A giant table was empty next to us for the entire duration of our meal that could've been used for our family. Instead, they had to stay at home. Lastly, the food was terrible. It was luke warm, ham looked old, the turkey looked like it was deli meat thrown on a plate with gravy, we never got a refill of our drinks, nothing was not seasoned and there was no salt/pepper in sight, two of us were missing silverware and we were told multiple times they'd bring some out (never did, had to take from a different table), and the worst part.... it ended up being $39 PER PERSON after gratuity and tax.
