    Cheesesteak w/onion rings
    Kimberly C.

In my opinion, this is one of the best places to eat in the area. Casual and family friendly environment suited for any groups. We ordered the sloppy James with fries and the beef cheesesteak sandwich with onion rings. We also had water and coffee. The coffee was OK. Let me start by saying the portions are large and well worth the money spent. The sloppy James is quite good and I heard it's quickly becoming one of the more popular things on the menu. You definitely want to be hungry though because the sandwich is equivalent to 2 regular size sandwiches. It's not the rich, old school tomatoey sloppy Joe you may remember. It is full of flavor and topped with cheese. The fries are average and on the thinner side (NOT shoestring). The cheesesteak is also huge! Best cheesesteak I've had in the tristate area, in fact. Loaded with beef, onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms. I opted for mayo on mine as well. The steak wasn't super chewy and no hard gristle pieces, which was terrific!!! The onion rings were made with red onions, and honestly, the best I've ever had. I'm an onion ring snob! Just a hint of sweetness, with the most perfectly delicate and crisp batter. I do recommend calling ahead to check if a reservation is needed, as they were hopping with business and I think we lucked out getting a table!

Soup and salad combo. Soup was Texas chili.

Ordered soup n salad combo. Salad was fresh with romaine, tomatoes, red onion, balsamic vinegar. Soup I ordered was Texas chili. While it was labeled as spicy, I did not find it spicy at all. The salad was good, but boring. It could have used a little something extra to make it special... like sunflower seeds or radishes. There was a lot of red onion on the salad so I scooped it off and put it on top of the chili because it was a good fit there. The chili was made with ground beef and black beans and had nice flavor The red onions I took from the salad went well with the cheese and jalapeños topping the chili, the soup and salad combo came with crackers, which was nice. Great atmosphere in a converted historic industrial bldg. Good service, staff attentive and friendly. Clean bathroom.

What a wonderful find in Batesville!! I was at Sunshine Sisters (a darling plant and gift store!) and checked Yelp to see what was near me. Luckily Big Four was just across the street!! What a wonderful surprise!! I ordered the Cuban sandwich with onion rings both were great!! What I loved is the waiter was passionate about the menu! I always ask staff what they love and it's telling to see what they say! He was attentive and made sure my experience at the restaurant was a positive one! Customer service deserved more stars!! Also that everything is fresh!! I will definitely be back!!

Super cute dining room, and lots of space between tables.

What a gem of a cafe, hidden inside a remodeled old furniture factory. The service here was impeccable. The food tasty and fresh. $70 fed six of us, not a bad value for breakfast. The pancakes are huge! Chicken and waffles were very tasty. But the best dish is the breakfast quesadilla. 12.99 and loaded with meat and more. So damn tasty. This is a destination restaurant, not just a place to eat when your in the area. Note: reservations are highly recommended.

I'll start this off with saying if your thinking about going here for breakfast, call now for a reservation as odd as that may seem. They seat reservations first and it seems to be their preference. We were asked if we had one and felt as in inconvenience because we didn't. There was 7 tables with a reserved sign on the whole time we were there. It seemed so odd to me considering it's a small breakfast place, you'd think you'd want to take care of those who came to eat. The food was pretty good for breakfast. We all very much enjoyed the gravy. The sausage was a bit off looking as if they stuff it themselves or something. Our waiter was great and very tentative during our visit which was great. He made sure to not let our drinks go empty which is always appreciated!

Went on a Sunday morning and service was excellent. Got seated right away and enjoyed a delicious mimosa and breakfast burrito. Food was fresh, large portion, and relaxed atmosphere. Staff was attentive and helpful. Other drink options included bloody Mary's, wine, beer and specialty coffee. Wonderful restaurant and already planning my next visit.

It was delicious, and we've eaten there a few times since and always have a great experience. We both have been wanting to try some of their lunch specials, but we work and can't get there to check it out. We were off today and decided to go there for lunch because they were having chicken and noodles, and that's one of my favorite meals. It did not disappoint at all. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed our meals and even ordered seconds to go, so we could have it for dinner. The chicken and noodles came with mashed potatoes, corn or green beans, and a roll. You could definitely tell the food was homemade too. Delicious! The Farmhouse Diner isn't a very big restaurant and can get pretty busy. It reminds me of a little country diner where all the local farmers and their wives go to eat breakfast and lunch. The staff is always super friendly and attentive too. We will definitely be going back.

Oh well. My coffee money went to Scooter's. I just got a black coffee from the drive-thru. Scooter's has a drive-thru! The whole transaction, from pulling up to the drive-thru kiosk to ordering to receiving my coffee, was seamless and fast. The people who work here who I encountered were very friendly, too. Scooter's has a large menu of coffee drinks. In fact, there are more coffee-like drinks than there are just regular coffee. They have things like Cinnamon Toast Crunch lattes, green leprechaun shakes, smoothies, and even energy drinks. They also have pup cups (of what looks like whipped cream) for dogs. I didn't want any of that, but if you're in the mood to drink all of your calories for the day, this place will help you out with that. The coffee was good, the service was quick, and best of all, they were open.

Charles Baudelaire, before whom I bow as a servant to a master, once said "On peut juger de la vertu d'un homme à ses goûts en matière de nourriture". Well, he technically said no such thing, but I wish he would have. Baudelaire would have smited upon the tongue those fanatic cretins who maintain and uphold the absurd opinion that Lil' Charlie's (Heaven banish the thought!) is a bad restaurant. I have heard many of my fellows complain of stomachaches and nausea accompanying a trip to this paradise of cookery. Alas! they exaggerate their sufferings, seeking to blame Lil' Charlie's for their own puerile digestive system. For those who criticize the food itself, I have no words. Indeed, I must restrain my tongue; for no fire burns too hot for them, no poison good enough to scorch their iniquitous throats, no--but I must hinder my rash flow of words: justice makes me speak thus. Now I shall presume to speak of the menu. Presume, because who can hope to accomplish the feat of expounding, in mere human words, the transcendence that is the cooking of Lil' Charlie's? I feel as Dante felt when, looking into the eyes of his lady-love Beatrice (oh! those luminous eyes 'lucent-weeping from the dayspring'!), he laments his inability to capture the beauty of it in words. To use Browning's phrase: "Poor the speech; be how I speak for all things". If Browning stumbles in his speech, what can I hope to say? Nevertheless, I set sail in uncertain waters, trusting that my words may carry me through. The food itself is the platonic ideal of perfection. The pork sandwich, Homeric in its proportions, leaves no hungry waif unsatisfied. The chicken wings come in divers seasonings. Jamaican Jerk? Parmesan and garlic? Classic Buffalo? Lil' Charlie's has you covered. The salads are a pleasant meal in themselves; one cannot eat them without conjuring up images of sunny pastorals or the Ecologues written by Theocritus, where joy-drunk shepherds recite their bucolic verses to one another. I shall go so far as to compare the summer salad to a painting by Watteau. Such is the magical power wielded by the chefs of Lil' Charlie's. The one stain upon the pure tapestry woven by the Muses themselves may be said to be the Father Franz Chili. It was rather too oily and contained NO beans! Absurd! Maddening! All in all, it was still a somewhat palatable meal. I must end my paean to Lil' Charlie's without praising the many other attractive features that lend it lustre. The atmosphere is homey and attractive; the tables are as clean and polished as a verse by Virgil. I blush with shame that I cannot hymn the staff, angels of culinary perfection, as is fit. All I can add is that Heaven shall reward them the highest sphere among its many mansions. And, to you one young man who laments the time it takes to receive your food (you know your name, oh unfortunate one!), all I can wish is for your tongue to cleave to your jaws and your liver to pour forth upon the earth. Let your voice be silenced ever and anon. FINIS
