So this is the second time during lent season we have order a fish and shrimp dinner at a restaurant in Greensburg, and experienced long delays in getting our dinner. The first time at the Corner Stone bakery we walked out after not getting our meal after waiting for an hour, so this time we're not getting fooled again. The difference at Storie's is our server Kelli recognized the issue, and told us there was a kitchen issues after our dinner was not out after 20 minutes. Kelli told us what was happening, gave us free pie and took our drinks off our bill and asked if we wanted it to go. Our dinner was finally ready after 35 minutes, so we boxed it up and went home. Kelli apologized multiple times, and that's how service is supposed to happen. The pie was fantastic, apple and coconut cream. Fish was very good, shrimp was good, mashed potatoes and corn ok. We've been here before where things were fine but it's been a few years. Things were so far from fine today and I don't think we will be back. It was an hour wait for food when 2/3 of the restaurant was empty. There was no wait. No lunch menu, so we had to order breakfast. I had to ask them how much longer it was going to be and within two minutes, our food was heading out. The pancakes weren't cooked through and tasted like cornmeal. The breakfast bowls were filled to the top of the tiny bowls and trying to eat them caused gravy and egg yolks to drip down the sides of the dish , making a big mess. My husband's eggs were raw. He couldn't even eat his meal because it was full of liquid and uncooked eggs. It honestly looked disgusting. We didn't say anything or ask for a replacement because we had already waited so long and didn't want to wait any longer. We left hungry and disappointed. This is our go to restaurant during softball season. Excellent food and the wait staff is so friendly and anxious to make your visit nice.

I finally stopped there after so many years with my grandma. I also had a great service, I did not the waitresses name. She did excellent job. I got BLT, onion rings and cole slaw. The Cole slaw is so GOOD! I will be back there again with either Clifton or Colton. Place is clean! read more

I flew into Greensburg on business. The airport kindly provides a crew car, so we went into town searching for lunch. We stopped at a couple of restaurants on the public square. Some of the locals regarded us like we'd just beamed down off a Klingon starship. This wasn't the case when we walked into Storie's restaurant, indeed, we were warmly welcomed. The food was good, and I especially recommend the homemade peach pie ala mode. Becci (her spelling) was especially warm, welcoming, and sincerely nice. The ambiance was busy but not loud. I didn't take advantage of it, but they offered a remarkable Thanksgiving dinner with the works for thirteen dollars. The lady next to me tried, but she couldn't finish it all. read more

This is your classic amazing small town diner. Home cooked meals and pies off the charts delicious. The service is spot on and very good. The ambiance is right out of the 1970's. Neat little restaurant located on the square across from the historic courthouse tower tree. Staff was friendly. Service was good. Ordered the bacon omelette, but was disappointed that it included no sides, and it was $8.58, so i ordered a side of toast ($1.56). Everything was a few cents more than the menu indicated, which, I'm sure it's due to food costs. Overall, I'm sure I'd come back, but try something else. read more

Looking for a bite while day tripping around the state, my family and I stumbled across this Greensburg staple. The restaurant is nestled into the historic downtown shop fronts directly across from the county courthouse and the infamous tower tree. Walking in, much like the downtown area itself, made me think I had stepped back in time. Not that the patrons were dressed a la 50-60's chic but the familiar tone and jovial nature of all those tables felt like we were in a different time. The food is consistent with any small town family diner. Being there for breakfast, our fare was straight forward. Family order of biscuits and gravy to share. The biscuits were good, clearly made in house but the gravy was better. Word is that you have to go early on the weekends because the biscuits sell out. Luckily we got to try. My dad ordered the omelet and said it was good. Mom had bacon eggs and toast and I had sausage eggs and toast. We both ordered a side of tatters. The meats had a good flavor but the hash browns were under done and greasy. For the price it was good though. This place was hopping for a Saturday. That said it took a while to get our food. The staff was friendly, and kept the coffee coming. The pies were just being cut for the day. They looked delicious and might draw me back sometime. Overall not bad. read more

Back in the day, I would head to Storie's after school. My favorite was the Roast Beef sandwich with french fries. After going to college and getting my job, moving away from Greensburg, I had this idealistic view in my head of Stories. I would bring it up in conversations of where I grew up. It got to the point where I wondered if my memories were becoming better than reality. On a not too distant trip back to the burg, my family went to Stories. I ordered Roast Beef sandwich with fries. It was still exactly how I remembered. It's nothing that will knock your socks off, but it has a home town feeling to it. If it is your first visit to Storie's, I would not order what I did. Go for the tenderloin and be ready to take some home... or to roll out the door. Pies are good too! read more

Always good - never disappoints!! We used to live in Greensburg and Storie's is a place that we miss a lot! We don't live close anymore so it is a real treat when we get to go back. We all had tenderloins which are hands down one of the best tenderloins in the state! I had onion rings - also really good! The others had French fries and sweet potato fries (which I sampled). All were great! We we too full to enjoy a slice of the homemade butterscotch pie so we purchased a pie to take home. The pie is always delicious as well! I have never been here before, but I have read about it somewhere and then my brother ate here and he couldn't wait to come back and he wanted us to see it. I knew the town was also known for its historical courthouse with the tree growing through the roof. The restaurant is directly across from the courthouse. As soon as I entered Stories I was enchanted with the old time ambiance and charm. How often do you see a working lunch counter? How about booths with attached coat hangers? I know, some of you are saying that all of that is fine, but what about the food?? I ordered the Roast Beef Manhattan. The gravy was dark brown and rich and delicious. The roast beef was juicy and so tender that it just fell apart. The mashed potatoes-I ate them so quick because of the gravy that the mashed taters went down like butter.My brother had Chicken Tenders which were good, but could have been hotter. He got two sides and chose Macaroni Salad and Potato Salad which he really enjoyed both. My friend ordered the fried tenderloin. That sandwich looked really good! Pounded out not too thin. It was pretty big and had some meat to eat! I highly recommend that you take a nice drive to go eat at Stories. We had the pleasure of meeting Don Storie, one of the owners. He makes you feel at home. Be sure to order homemade pie for dessert. My peach pie was stupendous! After your meal walk over to the courthouse and look at all the beautiful ways our brave veterans have been honored and remembered. There are few things I love more than a small town diner, and this certainly fits the bill! A long, narrow restaurant, it features a large family dining area, and a pretty large lunch counter that reminds me of the old Woolworth's lunch counters. It's certainly got a homey feel! The breaded tenderloin was one of the best I've EVER had, hands down. The fries were pretty standard fries, and the cole slaw was much creamier than I prefer, but the taste was fine. My wife's pork BBQ was decent, but nothing pushed it into the stellar arena. Service was prompt and friendly, and the price was right. We're fans and we will return. read more

Stories is a Greensburg institution. It sits on the courthouse square with a nice view of the tree on top of the courthouse tower and has a bevy of typical diner food. You will find a lot of town elders eating dinner at 3 or 4pm, or lunch at 10am (old people time), but will almost always find it crowded at any time. Parking is in an alley in the back or in the lined spaces in front of the courthouse. They make real ice cream shakes (I recommend chocolate) and my friend's parents are big on the ham salad. If you are from out of state, I would recommend getting the giant pork tenderloin sandwich -- a staple of the midwest -- as it's one of the menu items Stories is famous for. Also, in the menu is a little history of the tree on the courthouse tower... yes, it has a history. The people who work there are pretty nice. I remember, when I was a kid, they'd make me a special omelette: bacon, jelly and cheese. Today, I can't believe I ever used to eat such a thing, but they were very accommodating to a weird little kid. These are the perks of Small Town America. I almost forgot... they have a huge selection of homemade pies. Many of them are meringue (lemon, coconut, etc), but they also have fruit pies and a pie that I've only ever seen in Indiana: Sugar Cream. You walk in and all the locals know when you're not a local, unless you're married to a local visiting - then chances are they all heard you were in town. Every time we're in town visiting my husband's family a visit is not complete without having breakfast or lunch here ... and the dish we usually get - the pork loin! Which basically tastes like chicken fried stake but made with pork. The people are always friendly when we go. You can't sit more than 10-15 minutes without someone coming in and waving to someone they know or someone tapping another person on the shoulder in a friendly gesture as their leaving. Located off the famous G-burg square, if you can't find parking out front - try the back, and use the rear entrance. The restaurant is located in one of the old historic town square buildings which are very narrow and tight in areas.
