Decided to give Ertel's another try.... Came in on a quiet rainy Wednesday night for date night with the wife.... The building is beautiful and ambience was always good. Now for the food.... NY strip steak was excellent! Sides were great and Caesar salad was fresh! Wife had the grouper which also was on point and delicious. Bottle of local made Chardonnay for $20 was delicious and hard to beat. Service was good as well. I'm so glad to be able to put this place back on our list for date night read more

This was a nice quiet winery off the beaten path. The view of the vineyard was gorgeous. They offered indoor or outdoor seating. The food was good and the wine was excellent. I was sad to see it wasn't super busy on a Friday night, as the food and drinks were very good. We have only been this one time so maybe it is typically busy and it was a fluke (I hope so anyway). Everyone that interacted with us was friendly. And the tastings were complementary with dinner - we favor sweet wines and their fruit wines are all fruit without addition of grapes - delicious! We had an all around great meal. From the huge cheese plate to dessert. I had a glass of blueberry wine. It was super sweet which is the only way I like wine. Ended up buying a bottle to take home. My Blackened Grouper was very good as were the green beans. The mashed potato's were a bit on the thin side ; like too much milk was used ) but they were also good. Husband got a Filet with baked potato. The filet had good flavor and the baked potato was just fine. We both got dessert. The Crème Brûlée was freshly made. It was still warm and not quite set but it was very good. The chocolate chip cake oddly lacked flavor. Had it not had chocolate chips in the cake it would have been tastless. Not likely to be back in this area anytime soon but this was worth a stop. read more

We stoped in for a sample tasting and to buy a few bottles based on the tastings. We really like the Plum, Blackberry, and Catawba wines. There is a nice restaurant area, a covered porch area and an uncovered patio area where you can sit and enjoy a bottle of wine overlooking the vineyards. The staff was very friendly and answered all our questions and told us they also host special events, check their website for details. We are looking forward to going back for lunch or dinner. read more

Okay I didn't have food this trip, but I was greeted and made to feel at home. Was told about their offerings and had a few wine samples, the. Purchase several bottles of wine to take home. They mentioned that jungle Jim's sells their wine, but glad I bought here as the selection at JJ's was very limited. I can't wait to come back to eat a meal and just enjoy the drive here. I have been seeing signs on I-74 for years for Ertel Cellars Winery and finally, with my BFF, I took a detour to find the winery! It isn't too far off of 74 and it is so beautiful!!! The staff was very welcoming. A woman came out to offer us wine samples and she gave us a history of the winery, a small tour as well as talked about the samples she was giving us. I didn't realize this was also a restaurant, with beautiful seating outdoors as well as inside. We had already eaten elsewhere but the food smelled and looked heavenly so we will be back for lunch!!! What a great find in this small town. Ertel Cellars is not only beautiful but also great quality food and wine. We got a table right by the windows where you can see into their production. Very cool! I enjoyed the Cabernet Sauvignon. My glass was full all the way to the top. We started with a cheese plate. Which was overwhelming in size, but underwhelming in quality unfortunately. It was your normal grocery store cheese cubes and crackers. But we certainly got our moneys worth in cheese. My husband got the grouper which he very much enjoyed. I wanted something light, because I was full of cheese (ha-ha). I got the burger with a side of potato soup. I was happy with my meal. 7 ladies enjoyed a picturesque drive through the countryside to Ertel's restaurant. Our hostess, Terri, was delightful and had our table ready for us. Our server, Michael, was awesome. Took our orders and delivered them to the kitchen from memory, which is quite a feat. I started with the soup d'jour, which was a creamy seafood chowder with a hint of garlic. The macadamia nut encrusted sea bass was excellent, served over creamed spinach with baked potato and green beans. More praise for the salmon with rice pilaf, and the barbecued ribs. Dining area is one large room, so with a rehearsal dinner party across from us it was rather noisy. But we were still able to chat and I'm sure there's probably not a party going on every night. We had a wonderful lunch. My husband had the fresh grouper, grilled and I had a special Shrimp dish, Shrimp Capperrelli. These both came with choice of potato, and fresh green beans. Wife and I went here for date night. We have been here before and we've always enjoyed it. They have a great wine selection there. All wines are good. Very clean tasting. You can taste a variety of wines at no charge. For dinner I had the macadamia nut crusted seabass with blue cheese crumbles on top on a bed of creamed spinach. Very good and full of flavor. I stopped by here yesterday on the way back from Cincinnati to Indiana. I saw the sign on the interstate and thought I would check it out. There was a nice big sign on the highway to point to where it was. I still however passed up the entrance to it because the sign was a big rock and it was late afternoon and there were no lights on it. I could see the grape arbors behind the building. They also serve food as they have a bistro but I did not try any food on this trip. There was a nice man who got my samples of wine. There was no charge for sampling the wines which is a rare thing these days although I did leave him a tip. I am a sweet wine drinker and found a couple I liked. The ambience seemed nice and I imagine I will stop back by with my mom and maybe next time we will try something off of their menu. read more

The folks who live in this area are so lucky to have such a great restaurant and winery to support by spending locally. If this restaurant was in the Napa Valley or in Oregon wine country, the prices would be over the top expensive My husband and I enjoyed the burger, fresh green salad, chardonnay wine. Although I didn't stay for dinner, I loved the setting and hospitality of this local winery. Located on a hill that overlooks their vineyard, the spacious stone winery is gorgeous inside with plenty of room for their dine in customers (lunch, dinner, and brunch). As you enter, there is a counter for wine tastings. Unlike most wineries I've been to, this one allows free tastings! And there isn't a limit to how many you can sample. They are that confident that you will like them so much that you will make a purchase (I did!) Many of the dry and semi-dry wines are made from grapes grown on site. All the wines are processed and bottled here. I decided to go with their Chardonnay and Vignoles. I hope to return for a meal soon and may give some of their sweet wines a try. Ok folks, Indy has many outstanding dining options. But do yourself a favor and drive a little in the country and sample some of the little out of the way jewels that are dotted through our country side. On our recent trip back from Cincinnati we ventured five minutes off I-74 to Ertel Cellars Winery and Bistro. You have seen their wines in many of our grocery and big box stores for years. However, the great flavors we experienced for lunch warrant the drive. My wife and I shared a spinach salad and blackened shrimp marinara linguini. The spinach salad was a perfect blend of strawberries, cranberries, mandarin oranges crispy chicken and goat cheese and almonds. Poppyseed dressing kissed it well. Oh my, the shrimp was loaded in the linguini with a chunky fresh tasting marinara sauce. Just look at the pics!! Look awesome? It tasted ten times better. Ertel cellars is always a treat. We've been here several times and always enjoy ourselves. We stoped today to finish the Indiana wine tour. I love that they have a restaurant and are open later than most. Previously I've always tried their sweet wines. I love their plum & Catawba. Today I tried their dry wines. I felt like even their dry wines have a touch of sweetness to them. Their Foch which normally is a dry wine was very sweet almost too sweet. We did get a few bottles not too many sine they're available at the local cvs since there so close to home. Both the lady and gentleman helping us were nice & helpful. There is no limit on the tastings here and the pour very decent size tastes. read more

I was very excited to see the restaurant at this winery. Tennessee wineries can't serve food. This was a Great place to eat. We enjoyed the beautiful view Of the vineyards as we waited on our food. I ordered the chicken salad. It was excellent. It is hard to find great chicken salad but I found it here. After we satisfied our hunger we stepped over to the tasting room. We tasted the dry red wines. They were all good but my favorite was the Marechal Foch. It was a medium-bodied red wine and I bought a bottle for the romantic week my husband and I have planned. What a wonderful find, nestled in the hills, this restaurant was incredible. We started with the raspberry brie which was baked en croute and served with crisp crostini and interesting dried fruits. Pretty country setting and winery restaurant with an upscale feel. We visited for lunch on a weekday. We enjoyed turkey club sandwiches, fresh fruit, and salads in their outdoor seating area. Although it was a hot sunny autumn day, they did not have their awning pulled out, so it got to be pretty hot. Also, the yellow jackets were terrible, and we had to constantly swat them away from our food. The yellow jackets were not their fault at this time of year, but they factored in on our overall dining experience. I believe that this would be a nice venue for parties and receptions. Restrooms were spacious and clean. The food that were had was good. It was not over-the-top amazing or creative, but done well for standard sandwich and salad. We did not try any wine. read more

We tried this place for lunch and tasted wines. First off the place is in the middle of no where so it will take you a while to get there. They have a beautiful facility that has an open concept with high ceilings and beautiful wood. The parking area just welcomed you in. The sitting porch is very cozy. You can taste all the wines for free. All the semi-dry wines we tasted were some of the best we've had. The sever was very friendly and helpful. For lunch we sat overlooking the vats of wine. I had the chicken salad which was nicely done. Lots of food. The rolls and butter were very tasty too. My wife had the turkey sandwich which was loaded with meat. Their cole slaw was light and very tasty. We ordered the onion rings which Came out in a mound like straws. The onion was thinly peeled, coated, and fried. I would definitely recommend the onion rings. This is probably one of the best wineries I've been to!! read more
