We just moved into the Auburn area and this was the third sushi place we'd tried. We found a winner! We used to enjoy Zakuro in Lincoln so much and I'm so happy to have found a local replacement. We ate at Ninja Sushi on a Monday night and it was quiet and the service speedy. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food DELICIOUS and absolutely beautiful in presentation. I wish I was able to give this place zero stars. I don't like to complain about restaurants, however our experience last night was a joke. We've dined at this sushi place before. We knew they had ok sushi. When we got there we were greeted, given menus and water. We ordered an appetizer which was tasty. The place was pretty quiet except the people behind us watching you tube videos. We tried to ignore it and told our waitress who did nothing about it. THEN a guy came in talking on his cell phone SUPER loud right next to us. My fiancé said something to the waitress and the gentleman. Nothing happened. We ended up cancelling our food and walking out. When the sushi chef and owner asked what happened he literally shrugged his shoulders and said "oh well". After I compiled my composure I called the restaurant to let them know this was not ok. The waitress we had answered the phone and didn't care at all what I had to say. A friend and I stopped by a couple nights ago and had a lovely time. We were warmly greeted (despite it being late for this small town) and our server was very attentive & friendly. After reading the glowing reviews we decided to give Ninja Sushi a try rather than our usual Auburn sushi restaurant. My daughter ordered the "Hawaiin Roll" which is pretty simple, crab meat, avocado & masago. Her roll had a definite fishy taste as would be expected from crab past it's prime. I also went simple with the "Spicy Tuna Roll", tuna and cucumber. The tuna was also very fishy, almost tasted as if it was mixed with salmon. The order of Ama Ebi , the shrimp body was a color and texture I have never seen in a sushi restaurant before and the heads had not been cleaned, arrived cold, under cooked and generally inedible. Our server was very quick to remove the Ama Ebi off of our bill, which was the only positive about our dining experience. Please understand I have never written anything but positive Yelp reviews for any business, but this experience needs to be shared. read more

First time visit went very well... I can say that the new owners certainly care that they are reflecting what the customers want. The roll menu is the largest I have ever seen... almost too big as I got to share with the owner after our meal when he stopped by to chat. He agreed and was happy to share and explore with us some of the ideas he has. I liked being made to feel as if my dining experience and my opinion mattered. The rolls we ordered were very good... nicely sized and well constructed. The restaurant itself is a nice decor, upbeat and fun. Sushi is expensive in Auburn, no matter which restaurant you choose. Which is a shame as it makes going out to Sushi a treat rather than an everyday dining option. Overall for sushi in Auburn, I have to give the leg up to Ninja for their customer service and the quality of their rolls. read more

Ninja Sushi is our favorite local restaurant -- and the kids love it. We take all our out-of-town visitors and they always think it's fantastic. Great sushi for a great price! Our favorite rolls are the Spider Man (soft shell crab), Flaming Dragon and Godzilla. I'm sure we'll be back again soon. read more

When this place first opened it was great. The food was made to order and the staff was friendly. Now it is horrible! We went for lunch today and were greeted by an angry teenager wearing a dirty Boreal shirt who had probably never worked in a restaurant before. We were seated next to a dirty table that wasn't cleared the whole time we were there. The put out sushi "chef" had to ask us if we wanted plates! Nobody brought us the little dishes for the soy sauce so we grabbed them ourselves. They didn't even take away our menus. We ordered and not 1 minute later our rolls came, which they had to set on top of the menus because there wasn't anymore room on the table. The rolls had clearly been put together much earlier and didn't have the same fresh flavor that I remembered from before. The shrimp tempura in the center was cold and so was the torched roll! We weren't offered miso soup either, which used to come with the meal. I must also point out that we were one of only 2 tables, so they obviously weren't busy!!!!!!! Needless to say, this place has gone so far down hill that we won't be going back! It's Mikuni in Roseville from now on! read more

If this app allowed zero stars, trust me I would of gave none. First of all, they are never open on time. Not only that, but they always close early. The chef sits behind the counter and plays video games believe it or not... And even communicates with other players using the head set. I couldn't believe my eyes. Delicious! The rolls are fully loaded and displayed beautifully. Everything is really well proportioned. I recommend getting appetizers as well. If the rolls aren't enough, the fried jalapeños stuffed with crab will surely do the trick to satisfy your hunger. The service is great as well. I have been coming here for years, but the quality of food has been getting worse. Tonight the sashimi had a strong odor. After having a piece or two we told the staff we could not eat it and we would still pay for it. After they removed the plates I noticed the server took one of the plates back behind the sushi bar. I confronted the sushi chef upon leaving that the food should not be reused and he replied "So". As a former restaurant manager, I was astonished that this is the way they operated. The best in the whole area. We eat there at least once a month and have never been disappointed. Not a fancy place but always good food and service. A great husband and wife team do a fantastic job. They always remember to bring us a glass of Plum wine with a side glass of ice. While I do not eat raw fish I have never left the restaurant hungry. Real bad....Both food and service. There was only 7 people in the entire place when we arrived. It took over 5 minutes just to get seated and another 15 minutes to place our order. I had ordered a meal. The time my meal was delivered,(it was the worst I have ever had) the others in my party were already done eating and ready to go. The floor behind the bar was filthy...We ordered albacore an old favorite which was a weird color and dry - my husband took one bite and decided we were leaving ....The chef had a mocking attitude as if we did not know what we where talking about... As regular sushi eaters we feel we do know our fish..
