I think we had a super simple landscaping modification which was just to add 3 cement pads for our trash bins and backyard grill. Everything else we just wanted loose rocks to fill. We bought our house in 2011 and the backyard was a patchwork of ideas gone wrong from the prior owners. After living with a less than great backyard for almost 10 years, we had had enough. I began getting estimates from numerous local companies and the estimates were much higher than I had originally expected and with start dates almost a year out. After reading Nine Orange's reviews, I called them for an estimate. Mr. Kim showed up on time, met with me and my wife, and very quickly gave me an oral estimate on how much he thought the work would cost and how long it would take. Nine Orange's estimate was in the middle range of the estimates we received but I felt very comfortable that they could tackle my rather challenging project after meeting with Kim. After about a week, we signed a very simple one page contract with Mr. Kim to have the work done. Nine Orange began work on schedule and completed my job weeks earlier than expected. This was a very big job which involved removal of 2000 square feet of concrete and an existing retaining wall, and the installation of new pavers, a new retaining wall, and new irrigation, drainage, and plants throughout the backyard. During the course of construction, Mr. Kim was always very communicative and his crew arrived early each morning to begin work. Mr. Kim visited my job site daily to make sure everything was going according to plan. Nine Orange is a family owned/run business and because of this, they work very hard, do things the right way, and do not cut corners. One of the great things about Mr. Kim is his ability to work with you during the process and accommodate changes - it is obvious that his goal is to make you a happy customer when your project is complete. Beware! We had our entire fence done by them. Backyard, and both sides. As soon as they were done they had us write a review. We noticed our fence was messed up a couple days after. Was told repeatedly they would come fix it. Then covid happened never heard from them again. Paid someone else $800 to fix their mess. Now its only been a couple years. The back fence pieces are literally falling off! They used as little boards as posible so u can see inbetween the gaps as well. Had originally felt good about my experience - but the lights from Home Depot started failing after 2-3 years of use. We'd had Kim and his crew pick the landscaping lights up at the time of installation and needed to prove to Home Depot that this was a legitimate purchase and two things happened: 1. We asked Kim to quote what it would be to help fix the lights and said he wouldn't do anything for less than $500!? 2. We called Home Depot who said that the lights were under warranty i.e. would be replaced for free, but we needed proof of purchase and Kim said they'd purchased the lights with cash. I'm leaving at 2 stars because maybe it isn't their fault for paying cash, but now we are on our own to sort out the warranty. Replacing 6 landscaping lights should not cost $500 in my opinion (it is less than an hour of labor now that everything is set up). It isn't their fault the lights failed, but if you are going to pay cash you should have given us the receipt. We keep all our documents - attaching receipt from Kim's team's work as reference. He said he only stands behind his work for 30 days and then you are on your own, or you'll need to pay for a whole additional project. tl;dr as other reviews have noted: if you want to do a massive projects for several thousands of dollars this may work for you, but any additional work to follow up will leave you on your own or cost you a premium price. read more

Mr. Kim and his crew did a good job transforming our backyard! They were always on time, brought their own lunch and portable potty so they could work without having to come inside. The materials they had us pick from were top of the line quality stuff. They finished the job on time as promised and there were no surprise extra cost or anything like that which I really appreciated. Mr. Kim also provided some free post care services which were really nice, when I needed some materials to fill some gaps. However I would say this company is definitely more of a hard scape company, not full-service as I originally thought. They do a great job with hardscaping but will not offer insights on what plants should be placed in what areas or much of the yard design and flow. We did our own flower beds soil fills which I thought was included in the price but not. So I'd say definitely discuss the details of what the price quote covers before making your decision. Also a few important details were missed which now is causing a lot of trouble, for example, when they filled my flower bed with river rocks, they just poured the rocks on top of the soil, no weed blocker was put down first...as you can imagine every few days I have to go out there and weed that are, this could have been easily avoided if a slight more attention to detail was paid. But overall I feel Mr. kim did a good job, I'd say it's probably for the best if you could keep an eye on the project instead of leaving it to the crew. read more

Just st completed an expansion of our patio which required taking out a small retaining wall, excavating plant areas, expanding the footprint with flagstone, adding a new wall, electrical outlets and drains. It was a three day job they said was small. For us, it was huge!!! They did a great job, were incredibly responsive to all my "asks" and finished it off beautifully. They tied the new and existing flagstone together with art and it all looks great. Its a family business and they work hard. You can trust them and they are reasonable. We moved into a new home which had a dirt patch for a backyard and wanted pavers installed along with lawn and drip irrigation for the side yard. They also put river rocks along the borders that match pavers perfectly. I don't ever write reviews on yelp, but I always heavily depend on them. So here I am, writing a review to help others when seeking landscape work. It was because of the reviews on yelp that I found Kim and Nine Orange, so I want to give back :) When we first met with Kim, like others have said, he gave us a "start date" of October, about a month and a half out from when we met in August. Worked perfectly as we had to save the funds... ;). Kim, then told me at the end of August that he was ready to start! Great! Sooner than expected, but none the less, ahead of schedule is always better than behind schedule! :) He anticipated 6 weeks to finish the work; tear out old plants and shrubs, build retaining walls, lay pavers, cement additional patio space, and lay drought resistant lawn (aka artificial lawn - LOL). He finished in less than 3 weeks!! As the other reviewers have said, it's because his staff/family works 6 days a week!! Through 100+ degree weather. I actually told them to go home early one day bc it was way too hot! They would've worked then too. I was very particular about a few things as they were doing the work. Kim had no problem changing what was done if it wasn't to my liking.
