My experience was nothing below exceptional. Sophie performed Nipple piercings for me, nothing short the definition of a professional. She helped me feel comfortable, and conversed with me which kept my mind off the procedure. When we entered the room she thoroughly washed her hands and started preparing the jewelry for sterilization. Then she prepped the area for piercing by cleaning and marking. The marks were perfect. The piercing process had begun and the reality set in. Even here I felt confident that Sophie would make the piercing just as smooth. She began piercing and asked me to breathe, at this point it was done. The piercing was a mild pinch and sliding the barbell in was just as easy. What an incredible experience. I'm so happy with my new daith piercing done by Starr and I can't recommend her highly enough!! I was a bit scared going in, worried about the pain and potential blood sugar spike aftermath that I've had from every piercing (even lobes) but all of those nerves and concerns were unfounded! Honestly the piercing didn't hurt at all, to the point that I didn't believe her when she said it was done! And no dreaded blood sugar spike either... Either because there was no pain or because she gave me water and a preventative glucose tablet since I told her my history. She was meticulous about making sure the jewelry was thoroughly sanitized before we did the piercing, and ensured that we found the perfect placement for it. The shop itself is extremely inviting and has a very professional feel - you're definitely not in a dingy back room shop here. The actually process was over in a split second, and she has such a light touch that it just felt like the smallest small prick on my ear. There was *minimal* pain after and during the healing period as well so if pain is what anyone is nervous about, I can assure you that this will be the smallest blip on your pain scale. Had my piercing appointment with Casey, who was very nice & professional. However, just had my second appointment with her and called 25 minutes before to let her know I'd be running up to 15 minutes late bc a work appointment ran late but was on my way ($30 cab ride to make it). The woman I spoke with on the phone was really snarky about it & said they can only hold the appointment for 15 minutes but anything later, they can't see me. She said it's out of their control. Considering I paid $600+ to have 2 ear lobe piercings done & was made to wait over 15 minutes the first time and made to wait 10 minutes again for the second appointment anyway (I ended up arriving at 1:07 pm & appt was for 1 pm so wasn't 15 min late anyway), I think it's pretty bold to respond with an attitude & hang up without saying bye when I'm giving you a heads up I may be a few minutes late & either way you're going to make me wait with no apologies (they were just in the back office doing idk what & made me wait). Also, the place wasn't busy when I got there & the appointment itself was literally 2 minutes so was it ever that serious to warrant a curt response? I mentioned it to Casey & she wasn't rude but just brushed me off. Even if you're explaining a policy, next time just be polite & understanding with your customers. Especially when you charge as much as you do. Update: I've only had the earrings I purchased here since March 22 when I got my piercing and the middle stone on one of the earrings has already turned gray. I haven't been in the ocean or pool, although I'd expect they should hold up even if I did. Here are two pics comparing the two earrings as a way to show the discoloration. Again, disappointed considering the $600 price tag of these earrings + piercing. I wanted to purchase my own set & bring them in for the piercing but this business strictly forbids it. Understandable but then good products should be sold for the high prices paid. Now I have to spend even more money for a pair of good earrings. Also, the owner's previous response didn't address the fact that they made me wait after being rude about me possibly arriving 15 min late to my appointment. If you're running a tight ship due to covid, then as soon as I arrived you should have been ready bc I was just 7 minutes late & it's still my allotted appointment time. I don't mind waiting at all but just interesting I was made to wait after I was spoken to so curtly over my courtesy call about possibly being late. I just had my third piercing experience at Nine Moons with Starr and Marlaena and I still cannot more strongly recommend this shop. Marlaena was so amazing at helping me through my choices of jewelry and listening to me think through what I liked and didn't like. I had originally come in thinking I would get a conch and/or lobe piercing. Starr was able to look at my ears and the piece of jewelry I had fallen in love with (BVLA's The Rose with labradorite and moonstones) and place it in my faux rook which not only looks AMAZING but fits my ear better than it would have in my conch. Along with that she designed a constellation/triple lobe piercing that works with my ear anatomy and my other pieces of jewelry. I had a lobe and helix piercing from Starr this year and I had such a great experience from the beginning to the end. Marleana was really sweet and helpful in helping me decide what pieces to place on my ears. She asked what I was interested in, and provided me with several options to choose from! It was really hard to decided because all the pieces shown to me were beautiful. Starr did my piercings and she's awesome! She explained their cleaning process, the tools she uses, how they are clean and sterilized. You really want a good piercer who explains everything to you, and that is exactly what Starr did. The piercing process was swift and painless! After my ears were pierced she explained the aftercare process, and I booked a follow up appointment to check how my piercings were healing. A week after my ear started to feel really irritated, so I went a follow up email. They are really quick to respond because they want to make sure everything goes really smoothly. I went to Nine Moons after Starr responded just to make sure that everything was okay. Turns it out was minor irritation, probably from taking my mask on and off. But it really shows they really care. The service is great, the people are amazing. I'm looking forward to going back again for future piercings. Their studio is by appointment due to COVID. And I returned just yesterday for an impromptu ear piercing for my birthday. PERFECT FROM START TO FINISH! I walked in the studio with a reservation, fully intending on just checking out the jewelry. I was greeted by a person with long black hair with white highlights. She was so informative and easy to talk to, as well as being clear with pricing and the whole process as well. I figured I wouldn't have the opportunity to get a last minute appointment, but she and Casey fit me in with no hesitation. Casey was so quick and efficient, but also careful and answered all my questions. They perfectly fit the new piercing to my vision I had and made sure I like the new look and feel of the jewelry. After always wanting one, I finally decided to get my navel pierced and made an appointment online (which was super easy to do). It mentioned that the piercing would be $40+cost of jewelry. The jewelry that they showed online seemed to be all very expensive gold items, but I saw a couple of reviews mentioning titanium so I figured I'd wind up going that route. In the shop the first thing Casey did was check my anatomy to see if it was doable for me to get done (which I took as a good sign because not all navels are suited for a piercing, but not all shops are as discerning). Once it was decided that it was possible, I picked out my jewelry. They asked if I wanted gold or titanium and when I said I wanted titanium, they brought out a bunch of titanium options with the prices clearly labeled (they all seemed about $100 from what I noticed, but I also requested to see the ones with colored stones, so I can't speak to plainer options). I was choosing between two when Casey mentioned that one would be more comfortable than the other - sold! I went back to sit while she got the room set up and cleaned everything. I'm mostly mentioning the prices because I felt like several reviews mentioned sticker shock and yes, even with titanium this was more expensive than other piercings I've gotten, but there were no surprises along the way. I wasn't pushed towards gold, the prices were labeled, and they showed me the total including tax before I got taken to the room to be pierced. Not to mention, this was the cleanest studio I've been to and pretty much the best piercing experience I've had. (I wasn't interested in the gold prices, but if someone is piercing me with a needle and putting a foreign object in the hole maybe I shouldn't be *too* thrifty?) The actual piercing itself went smoothly. Casey had me stand while she marked my belly button and had me check the mark. I lay down to get it done and she talked me through the process. It was done very quickly and without too much pain. Casey talked to me about aftercare and said I can see her to check up on it in a month if I want. Went for a tragus piercing. Casey was very knowledgeable and got the job done quick with minimal pain. The jewelry offered here are quite pricey (BVLA) but you know you are getting the good stuff. It has been 4 months since I got my piercing and I recently went for a downsize where I had to pay for a shorter labret back. My tragus is healing beautifully with absolutely no issues. I will never go to a cheap piercing studio after this experience. Worth every penny. Definitely going back when I am less broke. XD read more

Time for a long overdue updated review! I got my first piercing with Starr about 10 years ago and haven't let anyone else touch my ears since. I've been back multiple times over the years for additional piercings, jewelry changes, and check-ups. With every visit, Starr continues to demonstrate her extreme professionalism. She is truly an expert in her field and at the top of her game. Just watching her business change and mature over the years has been impressive (really enjoying the dedicated stylists and online appointment system)! I was back recently for a jewelry update and was helped by Marlaena the stylist, who pointed me towards the most beautiful BVLA piece. Her input was thoughtful and not at all pushy. She factored in the shape of my ear, lifestyle, and even the style of clothing I was wearing. It ended up being way over my budget ($800s range, white gold) but I am so happy with it. One thing to note is that they now seem to sell only higher end luxury pieces ($300+, from what I saw), but the selection is breathtakingly gorgeous and worth the splurge. I've gotten so many compliments on my ears already. It's hilarious to read the comments about the price on my previous review! Starr took great care of me as usual, even going as far as making sure I was able to lie down comfortably due to a recent medical procedure I had. I will forever highly recommend Nine Moons. This is an update from my previous review. While I did not have a favorable experience with Tobias, I do want to say that the owner Starr, has been tremendous in addressing my complaint. She is flat out amazing! She kept to her word and followed up with me directly and has also consistently checked in to see how my ear was healing while also offering advice! Just the other day, she changed my earrings free of charge as they became way too big given that the swelling had gone down. I honestly don't think I can do Starr justice in this review because she is that wonderful. I would definitely advise folks interested in a piercing to go to Starr. She is knowledgeable, has excellent customer service and can definitely help if you experience issues with your piercing. Starr alone really deserves 5 stars and then some but I'm updating my review to 4 stars so not to be disingenuous regarding my experience with the other piercer. Thank you Starr!!!!! read more

I got 3 ear piercings in the same day - two "seconds" on both earlobes and one cartilage. From the beginning, Starr and one other staff member (sorry I forgot to ask her name!) were super kind and informative. They helped me find the appropriate size studs and type of material based on what I had told them about my prior failed piercing experiences. After I picked out my earrings, I only had to wait a few more minutes until they were sterilized. Starr marked my ears with black ink where she would pierce, I asked her a few questions based on my ear shape, and she guided me in my decisions very professionally. All three piercings went super well. I was jittery and nervous but Starr talked me through the process, told me when to breath in/out, and before I knew it, I was done! This place was a referral from where I got my original piercing. Service: A+++ you couldn't ask for a more professional staff who is friendly, Knowledgeable and friendly. Johnny was absolutely incredible. And worth the $40 per piercing fee which is at the top of rates for nipples piercings, but totally worth it. Why the 3 stars : unlike any place I've been, you don't get to pick out the jewelry you want, I wanted the standard stainless steel jewelry you typically get, and that's what I got. HOWEVER, the pricing for these are absolutely ridiculous. I understand that this is where the business makes its money, but $80 for two standard stainless steel nipple rings? Cmon. $25 a piece, sure. As any other place that's what you can walk in and select. But $40 per piece is absolutely highway robbery. Between the 20% tip, which was 10000% well deserved, taxes, and fees it came to over $205 for two nipple piercings, where the original place that referred me was 40% less. read more

After over 30 years of waiting to get my nipples pierced, I'm truly disappointed. After doing a lot of research I chose Starr Ellis because of her positive, glowing reviews. I arrived 15 mins early to my appt, my original appointment was 5:30pm, and I was not seen til after 6pm. During the time I waited she saw 3 other clients, while I just sat there. My boyfriend came along to gauge up, and he went and was done and came back and I was still sitting there. I was never told she was running late. I finally went in and spoke to Starr before the piercing accompanied by my boyfriend. I will say the consultation felt very rushed as she was running late. After Starr did her markings she proceeded to pierce my nipples. The experience was fine, with minimal pain. After looking at them in the mirror, I thought the left one was a little off but figured that would change as it healed. Unfortunately after 6 weeks my piercing is crooked. I'm very dissatisfied with the way this all went. I have decided not to go to the follow up as my nipples healed just fine and I am not going to remove the crooked one, let it heal and repierce it. Not sure what's taken me so long to finally write a review for this place, but it is long overdue! I've been to Nine Moons a total of 3 times over several years. I continue to be so impressed with the service. The studio no longer takes walk-in appointments due to COVID, so I had to ring the doorbell and let them know I had an appointment. Before going in they had me sign a waiver, completely sanitized the table and pen after I was done, took my temperature, and even sanitized my phone (so smart)! While I was picking out jewelry, they also told me they completely sanitized the jewelry cases after each client. Nine Moons followed guidelines above and beyond. I felt extremely safe while in the studio. While I was waiting, my piercer, Starr, came out to take a look at my ear to determine if my anatomy was suitable for the piercings I wanted and what jewelry would be appropriate. She was transparent about me needing a longer bar for my rook and let the stylist, Marlaena, know. Shortly after, I went up to look at some jewelry with Marlaena. Everyone was so excited to learn that I was getting a conch piercing! I loved the energy. Marlaena gave me a bunch of options for my conch and I ended up choosing a simpler piece because it suits my taste more. She had picked out some blingier options for me, but I didn't feel at all pressured to choose the pieces she showed me. I let them know that I had my eye on a piece on the BVLA website for my rook, and I was given Naomi's name and the final piece measurements so I could work with her to design a custom piece and get a price quote for it after my rook was done healing. I've had 3 sessions at Nine Moons over the last few years. The first time I got my 2nd lobes pierced with a piercer who is no longer at this location. The second time I had my tragus and helix pierced with Starr (they've healed so well)! This most recent visit I had my rook and conch pierced with Starr. As always, Starr was friendly, speedy, and professional throughout the whole piercing process. She talked me through all of her actions and explained why she was doing the piercings in a certain order. Overall, I've always had a great experience at Nine Moons. I'm due back for a downsize in a few weeks. I can't wait to heal up these 2 new piercings so I can schedule another appointment with them soon! read more

This will always be my go to piercing place! Starr has been my piercing girl for years now. I've been to many piercings salons over time and I've found her to be the most gentle one. Upmost one of the cleanest piercing process and salon as well! With any piercing you'd like to get, she's very knowledgeable and has great tips for aftercare. Personally my body sometimes has a hard time recovering from certain piercings; and they may even get irritated. Even when I'm having issues with them or feel they could be getting infected, I always contact Starr right away. Especially in situations like this, she ALWAYS manages to squeeze me in last minute to resolve the issue. Sometimes a simple change out jewelry (Usually does the trick). Starr really does make sure her clients are always happy with her work. I wanted to take my daughter to get her first ever earlobe piercing at a place that has a proven record of implementing best hygienic practices under normal circumstances. I was super reluctant to go anywhere especially during the pandemic, and was referred to Nine Moons. Starr and the entire staff exceeded expectations. Everyone was masked and we had our temp checked upon arrival. The waiting area was set up to allow for social distancing, even though we were the only customers there. The staff put us at ease immediately and brought us to a display case for my daughter to select her studs. Starr's bed-side manner is top notch and my daughter was relaxed in care--they even gave her a gift bag with materials and saline solution for after care! After moving from LA to NYC two years ago, I scoured the internet for a new piercing studio that I really felt like I could trust. And DAMN, Nine Moons delivers. I've gotten two piercings here, had a couple pieces of jewelry swapped, and gone in for consults on piercings/healing challenges from prior piercings studios. I've been pierced by Starr and Johnny and I think I've interacted with all of the stylists at this point, too. The entire team here is warm, friendly, professional, and clearly extremely skilled in their field. The environment is welcoming, even if you are newer to getting piercings. It's clear that the entire staff loves what they do, so nothing about my experiences has ever felt transactional. They're clearly passionate about what they do and want to partner with you on the process. Over a year ago, I made the difficult decision to have Starr remove my rook piercing (received at another studio) because it had never healed correctly due to the piercing style. It was my favorite piercing (and also extremely painful!!) so I was very disappointed. However, it was clear that Starr took great care to inspect it and to give me the proper advice. I waited a year and then came back to have Johnny repierce it. I conveyed how nervous I was due to my first experience with this piercing location and Johnny was a champ at keeping me calm and informed through the whole process. It is healing like a dream--I couldn't be happier with it. I got one of my piercings here before COVID and one during the pandemic. Pre-COVID, it was clear that they took the utmost care with health and safety. Now, they are doing everything right to prevent the spread of COVID. Temperature checks, hand sanitizer, masks (none of the uncovered nose nonsense either!), and sanctioned off areas to sit and stand in. When I arrived the piercing studio was pretty busy so I waited for approximately 30 minutes, but I didn't mind given that all appointments are walk-ins. This time around I got a daith and tragus piercing in my left ear. Once again Starr gave a recommendation for my piercing that was exactly right. For those of you that end up going to see her, if Starr recommends a particular size/style for your piercing, go with it! You won't regret it. Once we selected my jewelry Starr was diligent about sterilizing everything and making sure I was comfortable. Each piercing only took a couple of minutes, and the pain was barely noticeable. Star recommended that I come back in four weeks so that she can check on my tragus, so I will be back next month for my check up :). Per always, Starr was kind, and empathetic. She's a talented and experienced piercer that I will continue to go to for any piercings needs I have. Her studio is clean, and she has a ton of jewelry options. So it's April 2020 (think pandemic social distancing time ) and a sternum surface piercing that I've had for 11 years (Whew!) started to become problematic out of the blue. I started to feel like an infection was coming along. Naturally I can't just run to a piercing parlor for help because all businesses are closed- but I decide to reach out to Nine MoonS via Instagram because I'd started panicking imagining that an infection was gonna eat it's way through my chest- and I wouldn't be able to go to the hospital without also contracting corona virus while there. ‍ Starr responded to me and was super helpful and took time to ease my fears once I successfully removed the piercing. She listened to my yuckers description and assured me that I wouldn't die- while offering advice on aftercare and her own personal experience with a similar situation. As if that wasn't already nice enough, a few days later SHE FOLLOWED UP TO CHECK ON ME! She was correct- I did not die (YAY!)- but I was beyond blown away by her service and support through this experience. Nine Moons has a forever fan and customer in me. Took my 7 year old daughter to have her ears pierced with Casey today. To say that she had infinite patience is an understatement. She was a little surprised by the pinch of the first one and was not very interested in doing the second. It took a lot of calm talking and assurance by Casey (a good 45 mins) that she would not do anything that my daughter wasn't comfortable with--in the end she powered through on the second lobe with no tears at all. Not only did my daughter leave with perfect little pink sparklers, she also walked a bit taller for being brave and facing her fears. I also had my conch done and it was so fast and looks great! The woman at the front (didn't get her name!) who helped us select our earrings was friendly and knowledgeable as well which rounded out our amazing experience. read more

Had an appointment with Johnny Pierce for nipple piercings (male). I Just had it an hour ago. Overall, i felt the experience was outstanding. I arrived earlier than opening time and Stephanie (sorry if i completely misremembered your name) let me in. She was very friendly which helped since i was a bit nervous. I was the first appointment for the day and Johnny came in light on my appointment time. He quickly did a consult and did mention that my left nipple was smaller and he was unsure if we should pierce it. He told me that he can pierce it, and from the way that the needle sits, could tell if it would be rejected or not. (And from there, he would take it off or put the piercing; to which I agreed.) He answered all my questions, about the autoclave and the material of the piercing. He was pretty friendly and put me at ease. He spent a lot of time positioning the marker for placement. He was very diligent and quick with his hands. He gave me after care instructions, explained to me anecdotally what is gonna happen and how cleaning works, and sent me on my way. Overall I am extremely happy with the experience. Will go back in 2 months for checkup. He used an autoclave to disinfect everything and used implant grade titanium barbell piercings, and the studio looks very professional and clean. The scientist in me definitely is at ease with the cleanliness of the studio. I definitely recommend this place to all my friends. read more

I've been going back and forth on whether or not I had the courage to get my septum pierced for literally years now, and I finally decided to do it yesterday. I chose this place and made an appointment with Starr specifically because of the amazing reviews and I was definitely not disappointed! Everyone was extremely friendly and it was a really nice, clean, and safe environment. I've only had a few other piercings, but this was by far the best experience - Starr was exactly as amazing as all of the other reviews say. She walked me through every step as she did it and was extremely friendly, professional and talented. As far as the piercing itself, I was shocked to find it virtually painless! The jewelry being put in was uncomfortable, but overall it was super easy. I also wanted to mention that in the past I have had tattoo artists and piercers talk me into buying unnecessary aftercare products that I bought because I didn't know any better. At the end of my visit Starr told me about the products they did have in case I felt the need to buy anything, but was really honest and told me upfront that it wasn't a necessity. I really appreciated that she was more interested in if I was making an informed decision than if I was going to spend more money. It was such an easy and great experience to get my second earlobe piercing. The whole staff was very friendly and helpful, and picking out the earrings was really fun. I came to Nine Moons Piercing initially because I was tired of the Fordham Road piercing shops lack of customer service and poor quality piercings/jewelry (stainless steel bulls*** that's always making my body produce keloids). I knew that I was going to have to travel to find a quality piercing shop and so I did. I did ALL of my research and was opting to go to Maria Tash but that place is literally a rip off! Nine Moons Piercing is 1,000% worth the money and actually 1,000% better than Maria Tash. I found Nine Moons Piercing via yelp and immediately fell in love with their website. Clean location, quality work, and a great selection of affordable jewelry! I made an appointment with Starr and got my Tragus + Helix pierced (BOTH PAINLESS and I'm a big cry baby) Naomi, who helped with jewelry, made me feel SUPER comfortable with taking my time and picking out jewelry that was right for my style and budget. Not once did she rush me and it's top notch quality because I have NOT gotten a single keloid (and I am super prone to keloids)! Starr pierced me and she is the sweetest person alive! She was so patient, helped me calm my nerves, and the process was a breeze! Starr took her time to explain the process and aftercare. A no brainer!
