This was my first time dining here. I ordered take out. Let me first explain that I am not vegan- I am someone that enjoys eating and needs all the flavor. The food here was PHENOMENAL. I'm upset I haven't been going here all along! And you get so much for what you pay. I had a quinoa bowl with chickpeas. I wanted to sample the tofu and 'cheese' because I wasn't sure I'd enjoy it. All three proteins were so amazing. Bright flavors that complimented and contrasted each other. It wasn't spicy at all. I can't even tell you my favorite elements because everything had a unique flavor that went well together. The potatoes, the sweet potatoes, the green beans, the cabbage, the sauce- I believe it was cashew ( so sorry I forget). I will be here every time I visit Newburgh. read more

This is a fantastic "gem" in the middle of an area not known for it's cuisine. Sure Newburgh has some fantastic Spanish spots but as far a healthy/vegetarian option, not a whole lot out there. Came here on a Friday afternoon with a vegetarian friend for their lunch buffet. Having had experience with Indian food in my family I felt pretty knowledgeable as to what to expect. The food was fresh, hot and absolutely delicious - easily comparable to what I'm used to. For those worried about it being spicy, it wasn't (I'm assuming they keep the spice tamed down for everyone to enjoy). The lunch buffet menu options rotate apparently so any day you come you can try something new. They will start having dinners in the summer but other times of the year are only open for lunches so plan accordingly Staff was friendly and helpful explaining what everything was to my friend. Some other review noted that it was overpriced... Not sure paying $15 is alot to ask for an all you can eat buffet that won't leave you greasier than a car engine and make you gain the dollar amount you spent in weigt afterwards. I've eaten the midday buffet at Bliss Kitchen every year since they opened in 2014, so five times in all. Each year, within its genre of Indian cuisine, the food has gotten better than that served at most Indian restaurants here in America. Plus, the degree of spiciness here is very mild, which I prefer. Bliss Kitchen is totally vegetarian, and almost all items here are vegan, even those that all other Indian restaurants serve with ghee or cream. Even better, when I ate here yesterday, the soup and rice and all 11 items in the buffet were vegan. I venture to guess that they are exploring going totally vegan, but testing the market before announcing it. That's a big step for Asian Indians, who even in America idolize the cow. All of the food yesterday looked delicious, and it tasted as good as it looked. Even the otherwise conventional coleslaw was excellent. While the rice is white not brown, and with the exception of one deep-fried item which I avoided, the food is very nutritionally oriented according to Ayurvedic principles. Prices are very low, $15 for the all-you-can-eat buffet. Drinks and desserts cost extra. While fresh veggie juices are made-to-order, smoothies are readymade. I never try their desserts because I shun sugar, but who has room for dessert after a luxurious buffet? You might be surprised to find this jewel in a rundown but completely safe area of Newburgh. Renovated from a long-closed diner, the interior is totally remodeled and spacious and sunny, the brightness emanating from the wraparound windows further enhanced by the many skylights overhead. The wooden tables and chairs, too, are bright and all new, and sturdy at that. Bliss is easy to find, two miles straight off exit 10 of I-84, right on Route 9W (called Robinson Av when it traverses Newburgh). If you are undecided between choosing to eat here or one of the several eateries with veg options in the hip little city of Beacon, do not let Bliss Kitchen's location in dumpy Newburgh dissuade you. Unlike on Beacon's traffic-clogged Main St, you will zip right along on Newburgh's Robinson Av, so the drive off of I-84 is quicker to here. And unlike the scant street parking in Beacon, Bliss Kitchen provides easy parking right in its own lot. Oh MY God! I am not joking, my favorite indian restaurant and I have traveled india for a month! The staff is really kind and the food is incredible. I have celiac and so does my girlfriend and every time they are really knowledgable about gluten. Still not joking, I have been here maybe 20 times and have never been cross contaminated. I live up in Woodstock and every time I drive to NYC, I make sure to stop here both ways! I am also vegan and the food options are unbelievable. My wife is a vegan, and so when I heard about this place I was excited to try it out with her. We popped in for a quick bite to eat on our way to another engagement, however there was nothing quick about it. The place was empty when we arrived, and there were plenty of staff available, however it took a few minutes before anyone acknowledged that we were even there. We were seated and given menus only, no utensils, or water. After 10 minutes our orders were taken. My wife had ordered 3 items, a drink, a salad, and a personal pizza. I ordered a personal pizza myself. After 15 minutes her drink arrived. After another 10 minutes her salad came. Then after another 10 minutes out came her pizza. She had finished her entire order, and I still had nothing. No one explained to me what the hold up was, or what was going on. And I still didn't have anything to drink despite asking for a water. At the hour mark I was furious and ready to leave. My wife thought it was hilarious, as it actually felt like we were being pranked somehow. No restaurant could possibly just politely ignore their customers, right? No one came to give us our check. We had to go to the counter and wait another 10 minutes before we were acknowledged. I demanded our check so we could leave, and they came out of the back with a small pizza box. Very nicely they apologized for the wait, and said that my pizza had gotten stuck to the pan and that was the reason for the hold up, and ended their explanation with "have a taste on us". Aggravated and starving we took the box to the car. Upon opening the box I found one single slice of a personal pizza. I have never been so infuriated in my life. This place has decent food, but the service is the absolute worst. I have no inkling of a clue as to how they remain in business. read more

The weirdest experience. We had to ask for more than one menu, we had to go fetch plates for ourselves, the service was very slow and pretty awkward. Just to say, one person in our party was late 40 minutes and when she finally entered she thought we were over with food as the table was empty. No, we haven't even started. Our appetizers came one at a time with large time gaps between them. We were going to order the meal but changed our mind halfway through because we didn't have that much time to sit and wait. Coffees we'd ordered in the very beginning, never came. And very soon you start feeling awkward to ask for them again as you don't understand whether you're being politely ignored or whether something strange is going on. After all we just left and went to another place to finally have lunch, about 1.5-2 hours later than we expected. Can't say anything good or bad about the food, as I'm not vegan, so it's not my choice. My friends said they did like the appetizers. Total miss. We tried to eat here with a family of 5 and when we entered there was no waiter. We sat ourselves with a little assistance but we're not given menus offered drinks and no lights were turned ed on in the dining room where we were told to sit. Lets get this out of the way first: the food here is pretty good. It's nice to see a vegetarian place in Newburgh. That being said, as many have said before, service is what really holds this place back. A friend and I came for lunch the other day. It took several minutes after ordering some hot drinks before someone came to serve some bread (the roti isn't on the buffet line). We got one piece each and no one came back to our table to ask if everything was ok or if we wanted any more. It tooka good 10 minutes until my chai arrived and my friend's drink was not included. Hers arrived after another 10 minutes. A bit disappointed with the experience, I went to pay. One of the owners, who was very friendly it should be said, came to ring me up. But he had to ask me what I got (where was our ticket?), and I had to remember the bill myself. Awkward. Delicious vegetarian (mostly vegan) lunch buffet! I think some of the negative reviews on here are because patrons are comparing this to a more conventional Indian buffet with a large selection that includes meat. This is a modest spread of fresh and flavorful vegetarian Indian food. Love that they include some truly spicy options. Staff was very friendly as well. We ordered take out lunch using door dash. The food came in earlier than communicated which was a pleasant surprise. The food is very good. I can tell that they prepared everything in-house rather than buy bunch of frozen food and heat it and serve as their preparations which many indian places do. Their chutneys are also authentic and freshly prepared. Loved their kofta curry - definitely made out cashews and not the cream made from milk. Will order again. read more

Their lunch buffet is comprised of about 6 vegan dishes, rice and the day I went an excellent sweet and sour lentil soup. They also have excellent naan and I believe it was whole wheat roti bread.The service is so so. The place would benefit from labeling the dishes in the buffet and explaining that the food is vegan. The buffet is $10 which seems fair. The food is homemade and fresh. They use a lot of local organic ingrediants. They apparently make smoothies and fresh squeezed juices as well. I eat here on a regular basis because the food is that good and if I were rating only the food I would give it 5 stars. The service can be slow but if you are not in a rush you can enjoy a wonderfully healthy and tasty vegetarian meal. This is not your classic americanized Indian restaurant serving Chicken Tiki Masala. The food is as fresh as it gets and vegetarian and a good value. I have noticed many other repeat customers so we are all coming back for a reason and it is the food and friendly staff. The appetizers and desserts are all great. For food I have the buffet or Thali dinners and I have never had anything that I did not enjoy. Citrus in New Windsor is great for your standard Indian fare and they do a great job but I always feel sluggish after eating the heavy sauces and dense dishes. Nimai's Bliss Kitchen creates dishes that are very flavorful but not overly spicy (hot spicy). I can eat three full plates along with appetizer, bread, soup, and dessert and not feel sluggish. I was not thrilled with the food or service here. I asked for an appetizer from the menu (samosas I think) and the waitress said she wasn't sure if there were any left and offered me rice as an appetizer instead. After asking more than once, she did check and there were indeed samosas left, and they were pretty good. The entree my husband and I ordered (a curry dish) took a very long time to arrive, and the texture of it was very off putting... I couldn't eat more than a few bites of it. My husband and I came here to eat based on great reviews and had been looking for a restaurant with great Indian food for a while. The fact that the menu is supposedly healthy and vegan was a bonus. Needless to say, we were disappointed with our waitress' "whatever" attitude and our entrees. I don't think we will be returning. read more

Really disappointed... probably one of the only restaurants I've been to where there is no actual silverware or dinner ware provided. Instead we were given plastic plates, plastic spoons and plastic forks. Our entre/main course was brought out in a plastic take away container. BTW no glasses or water for the table. You have to walk across the restaurant and grab a tiny flimsy 6oz plastic cup and fill your own water from the water cooler. I understand self serve is an option in some resteraunts but I had to get up six times to fill my own water. BTW don't be fooled by the pictures. The food isn't the same quality as the pics posted. Been to enough Indian restaurants to know that the food here is less than mediocre. Came here because we saw this place on happy cow, but it is most definitely not worth coming to. Very strange. Something wrong is going on here and I'm not sure exactly what. Lights weren't turned on. Service was odd and had long gaps. Asked for chutney and got ketchup and oily cilantro something. Waitress mentioned peanut chutney so i requested it - then 20 minutes later they brought out some strange, warm, fluffy peanut butter concoction. The masala dosa and coconut chutney were fine. The pakoras were ok, but room temperature. The sambar was odd tasting. Chai tea latte was less flavorful than water. Spinach palak paneer was flavorless. They offered some complimentary vegan ice cream they made, but it was literally inedible. At checkout it was explained that they are still ironing out some issues, but it doesn't appear they have an actual chef. Or servers. Or a clear understanding of Indian food. Don't be fooled by the advertisement or the pictures here and on the Facebook. If you know your way around in Indian kitchen, you will certainly NOT be pleased with the variety and/or taste at this place and they charge $9.99 per person. After looking at the menu and the items on the buffet, my 12 yr old was ready to walk out the door but we had to make him sit through our lunch and he refused to eat any. It was our first visit today and they had buffet with limited items to start with and a couple of food containers were empty and no appetizer or dessert. We asked for appetizer and if they would refill the food, the answer was yes but we had to ask more than twice for refill. They rationed half a bread per person and we again had to ask more than once. We got our so-called appetizer when we were almost ready to leave. Buffet means "a meal consisting of several dishes from which guests serve themselves" but here I had to ask for everything. When I walked to the counter to pay my bill, the owner asked how the service/food were, I had to tell him the truth that I wasn't happy. Their response was they opened recently and they are still working on it. The truth is I have been going by this restaurant since Sep. 2014 and it's always empty but still I thought I would give it a try. I learned my lesson and will NEVER EVER go back again. If you really want to experience authentic Indian food, please try Citrus in New Windsor, NY, (about 4 miles from this place) -- the best Indo/Thai and you will not be disappointed with atmosphere, food and service. I really want to see this place succeed. However, as the restaurant currently stands, it is not heading down a path to success. The Pros: Restaurant is nicely decorated, staff is very friendly, food is usually good (and reasonable priced). The Cons: I have tried to place orders for pickup but their phone number listed on their Facebook page isn't reliable (no one ever picks up). There is virtually no atmosphere--no music, limited lighting, and an eerie and uneasy vibe especially when dining at night time. The food takes a very long time to come; my partner and I got our meals at different times making for an awkward and rushed dining experience. Overall, I would love to recommend Nimai's Bliss Kitchen as its concept is very nice, the food is good, and the owners seem like genuinely compassionate people. I believe NBK can do great things for the Newburgh community. However, as of right now, unless the restaurant makes significant improvements in their customer service and dining experience, I simply cannot recommend going there. read more

This place is somewhat confusing right from the start. Finding the hour it opens was a search (the website Yelp directs you to doesn't help ), but finding the fan page on Facebook helped and neither did calling the phone number. Taking a chance at 12PM, I approached one of the two doors leading to the restaurant and it was locked. As I was walking away, I saw someone else enter from the other side, and tried that door. Eureka, I was in. When you come in, you're first facing this sort of gift shop selling a hodgepodge of items, and are in a sunlit room. I'm not sure if this was where the main seating is, but the man who greeted us seemed a little confused by our arrival and took no initiative to seat us. Asking if we could sit anywhere, and him saying yes, we sat right by the entrance. As other people wandered in, we noticed them being seated someplace out of sight. While we were seated, a woman came and knocked on the window where I was, and as I gestured to the door, I met her and she told me she was here to pick up her order. I don't know what gave her the impression I worked here or why she didn't go straight to the door, but it seems like the place confused her as well. The food wasn't anything fancy, but it was good. Prices are extremely reasonable for what you get, and its a bright environment within the area to grab a meal. read more

This restaurant is very good. I have been a vegetarian for 27 years now. I have been eating at various Indian restaurants throughout those years when I can find them. Newburgh really needed an inexpensive Indian restaurant. The fact that it is vegetarian is a bonus for me. But if you are a meat eater don't let that dissuade you. The food is so good and so filling that my meat eating companions have been very happy with their meals here. As mentioned, the service is awkward only because it is not what you find in a typical American restaurant. I have had this experience in other restaurants that are owned by international folks. They clearly have not been trained by the corporate office. This is perfectly fine for me because the food is so delicious and at a great price too. A family of 3, we paid $25 for really full stomachs. I had some mint drink that I had never had before and it was amazing. This place is cool because there is food on the buffet that I have never ordered off of a menu before but it is so good and I am grateful for the chance to try new Indian food rather than sticking to my usual standbys. read more

I am ecstatic that this restaurant opened in this area. We need this! It's an all vegetarian restaurant but you don't have to be a vegetarian to eat here. The food is fresh and delicious. The smoothies and fresh juices are fantastic. The focus is on Indian food but they are expanding their menu to include other types of food. They also offer cooking classes. My friends and I were able to participate in one and enjoyed it very much. The people that work here are kind and very informative as well. This is their second try. We tried to order a few different items and each time the poor waitress had to come back and nervously report that they didn't have that. After several attempts to find something that they had, we gave up and left. I have only ever walked out of a restaurant a few times in my life and we dine out at least three times per week.
