This is a fantastic "gem" in the middle of an area not known for it's cuisine. Sure Newburgh has some fantastic Spanish spots but as far a healthy/vegetarian option, not a whole lot out there. Came here on a Friday afternoon with a vegetarian friend for their lunch buffet. Having had experience with Indian food in my family I felt pretty knowledgeable as to what to expect. The food was fresh, hot and absolutely delicious - easily comparable to what I'm used to. For those worried about it being spicy, it wasn't (I'm assuming they keep the spice tamed down for everyone to enjoy). The lunch buffet menu options rotate apparently so any day you come you can try something new. They will start having dinners in the summer but other times of the year are only open for lunches so plan accordingly Staff was friendly and helpful explaining what everything was to my friend. Some other review noted that it was overpriced... Not sure paying $15 is alot to ask for an all you can eat buffet that won't leave you greasier than a car engine and make you gain the dollar amount you spent in weigt afterwards. If that's what you're looking for by all means head over to Golden corral and have yourself something you probably should not be eating

But the Red Dot seems to nail every single dish. We started with the multigrain vegan waffle with fresh fruit and loved it! So clean and flavorful, with perfectly ripe fruit. I do think the fruit should have been included, because it would have been a bit plain without it. Next, we had the ancient grains kitchari which was incredible. We loved all the fresh vegetables perfectly cooked, adding a variety of textures and flavors. It is offered as mild, medium, or hot; we got hot, which was great but not overly spicy, and we might request extra spicy next time. Lastly, we got the breakfast paratha wrap filled with their incredible tofu scramble. We were so impressed by how non-greasy it was (both the paratha and the scramble). We are always looking for food that isn't overly salty or oily, which is hard to find, but the Red Dot managed to do everything perfectly. Also major props to their masala chai, made super fresh with your choice of milk. The soy milk was creamy and pleasantly sweet and it didn't even require adding sugar. So rare to find vegan masala chai. The food takes fairly long to come out, but we felt it was worth it because of how delicious everything was; we also appreciated the generous portions. I think we have found one of our new favorite restaurants!

My mother is a vegan, so it's really difficult to find restaurants that will cater to her. Well, no more. This will definitely be our go to vegan spot in the area. The restaurant itself is very clean, and it isn't big. That's ok. The bathroom was also very clean which is always a great sign of a well kept restaurant. It's run by a husband wife duo. Let me say that the service was prompt and polite. I couldn't ask for more. The food came out quickly and efficiently and it was all very very good. Probably my favorite was the general tso "chicken". However that's not to say everything else was bad because the food was all excellent. My mother, who is extremely picky with vegan food was also pleasantly surprised with the food. This will be her go to spot for a vegan meal. They do take out as well, so if you're in the mood for something a little different and you're in the Pine Bush area, try this place. Food is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. Everything is vegan except for some of the ice cream there. Fabulous food and wonderful people. I will be back again.

Their menu is extensive and impressive; they have some all-star dishes on their permanent menu as well as a rotating daily menu with a legendary lineup of seasonal items. I really appreciate that they have dishes that are hard to come by such as lentil loaf and lasagna, and these never disappoint. The lentil loaf is unique; it is a little brick of lentils (not your traditional sliceable mush of breadcrumbs and minced veggies). It's very well seasoned and the tomato sauce on top is not overly sweet. The mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy and (very) garlicky greens make it a great meal. The lasagna is one of my favorite dishes. It's pasta-free and just made from layers of sliced zucchini and other veggies sandwiched with their delicious crumbly housemade cashew cheese. The herby tomato sauce is super flavorful. The side salad and garlic bread that accompany it are great also; an ultra comforting meal. We enjoyed the macro meal, although honestly not as much as the other dishes. The pan-seared tofu was delicious, but the arame seaweed salad was super seaweedy and salty - a bit much for me. I'm also not sure why they didn't serve it in a bowl, which would have made the rice etc. easier to eat. It seemed to be missing something - perhaps avocado, or a hunk of sweet potato. A few items at the Garden Cafe are a little perplexing, compared to how perfect most of their food is. The tempeh is just ok. It's heavily marinated in a sweet and salty sauce and kind of strange. Also disappointing that it's just a big brand tempeh rather than one of the local tempeh brands available in the area. The housemade focaccia is also bizarre. The texture made me think it was gluten-free (but it's not). Is it whole wheat?? If that's the case, awesome, but they should mention that on the menu, so you aren't taken aback when you don't get pillowy airy bread and instead get something flat and gray that could be mistaken for a biscotti. We LOVE the Garden Cafe and wish more places like this existed serving organic classic meals. We wish they would open a location in New York City, but until then, we will be making the drive!

I started things off I ordered the sacred gift, which was a lovely spirit forward cocktail made with rye, scotch, toasted rice, pandan, and angostura bitters. It was perfectly balanced and pitch perfect in every way. We ordered their local cheese and zucchini for the table. I loved house made toasted crackers that came with the cheeses. They had a nice nutty flavor that paired well with the cheese, jam, and spiced walnuts. The zucchini was perfectly cooked (grilled, maybe?) and served on a bed of pistachio pistou and topped with grated parmesan. It was definitely a favorite of the table. For my main dish, I got the seared branzino which came with heirloom pomodoro, castelvetrano olives, tarragon, and fennel. It was flavorful and perfectly seared. The service throughout the evening was perfect with our server even taking us up on our request to get a quick snap of our group (so kind!). Highly recommend! But the more we looked into the menu, the more excited we became. I would say their specialty is burgers and sandwiches. Virtually every ingredient is made from scratch daily (except the sourdough bread, from a local farm), including impressive items like multiple types of burger patty and cheesy cashew sauce. We were so excited about their food that we went three days in a row! Day 1: The Fogwood smoky burger was outstanding. The BLT was also delicious; we loved the smoke salted tofu. For a lighter option, we got the sunshine curry quinoa chickpea bowl. It was healthy and nutritious, although I felt the flavor profile was a bit off; it was heavy on the curry powder and weirdly sweet. The side of mac and cheese was GREAT. We loved the sauce made from sweet potatoes, carrots, and cashews (I think it was oil-free). Not heavy or creamy, just flavorful and good! For dessert, we got the lavender almond cupcake which we LOVED. It was gluten-free, although you wouldn't guess it. It had a perfect fluffy texture and great nuanced flavor. We loved that it wasn't made with coconut oil (just olive oil). Truly special. The vast majority of their desserts (as well as their homemade cheeses) do contain coconut oil. Day 2: The patty melt sandwich was a big hit. Incredible flavor. The Levi Reuben served over greens (instead of on bread) was also delicious. We loved the fennel sage patty and the homemade sauerkraut. We got the kids' PB&J as a snack which was SO good with homemade peanut butter and homemade raspberry jam. Very impressive. Lastly, we couldn't resist getting the signature Snickers-inspired bar, which was so good it should be illegal. Day 3: We were excited to try their daily special, the teriyaki chili rice bowl, made with homemade ginger tofu patties. It was delicious, although it could have used some greens. We tried two more of their burgers to explore the menu further, the flirty burger and the teriyaki burger, and both were great. A devastating disappointment came when, even though we walked in within 10 minutes of their opening, they had already sold out of the special dessert advertised on their Instagram, the carrot spice cupcake with pecan glaze, the only dessert they had that was coconut-free. It seems like they inexplicably only make 4-6 cupcakes per day and then don't make more even if they sell out?! (Who does that??) Overall, we loved the food and are so glad they exist. Major props for making so many things from scratch. We really appreciated how nothing was fried or greasy, really hard to find these days. They also deserve special mention for having top-notch service. All the employees were so kind and accommodating, and every dish came out quickly and made to perfection.
