So good!! If you get the popping boba I suggest getting it 50% sweet. Overall a great spot!

Ube Latte Crème Brûlée
Brittney B.

The space is quiet and roomy. Staff is friendly and helpful. They do not have different milk options. The milk teas are made with a non dairy, lactose friendly something and the others are made with whole milk. I ordered the ube crème brûlée boba with pearls, regular sugar level. This was $8 for a small which I believe is incredibly expensive especially since I couldn't even sub the milk for oat milk. I do not think I'll be back soon with the price point as it is. Plenty of other places with great drinks and better prices. No regrets stopping. Maybe it's just a one and done though for me personally.

Taro tea had chunks in it...?

I've had some good experiences at Chatime, so I was excited to try it again at the new location. Unfortunately, my experience was far from great. I bought three drinks, but two of them were not drinkable. They had a strange consistency - almost like something had curdled in the milk tea/boba mixture. I was only able to drink my own drink as it did not have the strange consistency. My drink was great - honey milk tea with coconut jellies. However, my two guests did not enjoy their drinks based on the strange texture. We tried pouring the chunkier drinks into a different bottle and shaking it up to try to disperse the chunks. It didn't help, though, so we just tossed them. I'm pretty disappointed and I don't know if I would recommend the taro tea at all.

Ube creme brulee

The drinks are too sweet even at 25% sugar. The rebrand from chatime made the drinks look nice but overall I've been disappointed with each drink over the years.

Chatime is my go to place for boba on campus at the University of Minnesota. Their menu is extensive and super customizable, and they have a few cute tables to sit and study at. The menu changes seasonally, but right now I recommend getting the Passionfruit Green Tea with your favorite toppings!

And it's way more exciting than the Bubble Tea chain "Chatime." But both are satisfying in their own ways. What a lovely friendly bubble tea location with a really gorgeous girl running the show here - she was so friendly and so knowledgeable and so lovely and so flirtatious, and made a damn good drink as well, which I guess is most important in Yelprating terms. A lot of Chatime locations around the country do not have these strange concoctions with pea flower tea - and then a lot of other places that do make it, like some of the little trendy Indie Boba shops, and certain chains which we shalt not call by name, do not make it with nearly as much expertise as these guys do. It wasn't the best I've had but it was damn good and I was surprised because I don't like the regular milk tea at Chatime, so we didn't expect to like their pea flower - but they made a very good one that was as pretty as it was tasty (like Barbie) and that is usually something that people fail with (like dating Barbie). My fave Chatime in the Great Lakes region by far. But did you know there is a 6th Great Lakes, bigger than Superior and deeper than Russia's Baikal? It's called Lake Barbie. Cozy boba tea shop located in Dinkytown (THEY MOVED, for those who didn't know). Overall, the boba is okay, definitely not the best- we ordered a regular size signature milk tea with tapioca pearls (50% sweetest) and a honey lavender green tea with tapioca pearls (no sweetest). I felt like the pearls were a bit hard- compared to the soft, chewy texture I'm used to and both the drinks were sweet every though we asked for less sweetest. Plus I would have liked a stronger tea flavor. Pros- You can choose your sweetest level, there is free Wifi, there are some Asian snacks you could buy to eat along with your boba, and it's a convenient location if you study/work at the U of M or live in the area. Cons- Parking (only metered parking), usually filled with students during the school year with limited seating space, and I personally found the music to be a bit loud when I went to meet a friend there.

Chatime: passion fruit bubble tea
Bella J.

It is a small shop. Quite hard to find a table. Lots of students from UoM studying there as it is conveniently located close to the East bank. If you choose to study here, not enough outlet. Drinks will cost you at least $4 and above and not very good. If you truly love bubble tea, it is a convenient location. But I truly did not find them good or impressive. I did however, loved the fact that they carry Japanese Swiss rolls for sale. It is the first place I know that sells it other than buying it yourself from united noodles.

Best boba place in Dinkytown! Every staff member here is extremely friendly and willing to give you recommendations. Service is also really quick. They also have a stamp card - we love a place that rewards boba addictions! This location is also pretty spacious and quiet in comparison to other boba shops. It's not too quiet where you can't have a private conversation but it's calm enough to make it a good place to get some work done or catch up with a friend.

I haven't been back to Chatime since they moved around the corner. The new interior design is so cute. I actually love the map decor of Minneapolis/St. Paul on their walls. They gave cute interior decor as well like some paintings and aesthetic succulents. I ordered the earl grey milk tea 50% sweetness with boba. 4/5. My friend ordered the jasmine milk tea and taro milk tea and loved it. The staff there was kind enough to adjust to my friends taste when she didn't initially like how her tea tasted. The people here are absolutely so nice. 5/5 service.

thai milk tea

Got the thai milk tea, it was good! Super friendly staff, cute store, and quick service. A little pricey but not much more than I typically expect boba to be.

Mango green tea with boba beads
Alysha W.

This was my first time at chatime and first time ever having bubble tea. I decided to get the mango green tea with the boba beads in it. Overall I loved the tea itself, however I would get half a scoop of the boba beads instead of a full, they got to be way too much. Ambiance: this place is adorable it's like a little cafe hang out spot. They have a chalk board by the front entrance you can write on and then little tables that have enough room for groups or smaller tables for individuals. It's super cute and cozy and seemed pretty trendy with the amount of people in it. Staff: the staff could have been friendlier but it was towards the end of the day and they may have just been tired. Bubble tea: like I said above I loved the flavor of the actual tea I just would have done with less boba beads. Overall I would recommend this place.

Bubble tea!!
Julia M.

Friendly cashier, the drinks were kind of pricey, but then again. I think the price on bubble tea has went up everywhere. Sadly I came here for their honey toast ice cream and they longer offer this special treat!! :(

Ginger milk tea. Amazing.

We wanted boba too, but they were out of boba pearls. The barista said it would be 20 minutes to make, so we opted to get the drinks refunded instead of wait. The egg sandwich was good! Not as good as the EggFlip ones I've had in the Twin Cities, as the eggs weren't quite a perfected and the bread a bit more standard. But the bacon was good and the toast was well buttered and crisped. The mochi donuts here are pre-made, which is okay - until you've had them fresh. Soga Mochi Donut in St. Paul makes them fresh to order and I swear having them hot will change you forever! They're still good, and we liked the cinnamon sugar and pistachio toppings we tried. Inside, the decor is cute but you can tell it's been ridden hard by UMN students. Not a deal-breaker, but there are other locations you can visit if you don't want to fight for a parking spot during school season.

Angie appreciated my feedback and she told me the backstory to the name of the store! The name "Moona Moono" is a rough translation of two Korean words meaning "culture octopus," representing the various "tentacles" or facets of the Asian American experience. How COOL is that? We weren't asked for ice or sweetness level when ordering from the person at the register and ended up with full ice and 100% sweetness. WHEW, that is too sweet for me. Next time, I'll definitely opt to order from the machine where I can customize. But overall, the matcha was good and the hojicha delish too - I can tell both would be great flavors at a lower sugar level. The ice cream was so good!
