This guy at Eat Street Crossing asked if I had any questions, which I ask if the drinks can be made with almond or soymilk, he said yes and just to let him know which drink. The space is quiet and roomy. Staff is friendly and helpful. They do not have different milk options. The milk teas are made with a non dairy, lactose friendly something and the others are made with whole milk. I ordered the ube crème brûlée boba with pearls, regular sugar level. This was $8 for a small which I believe is incredibly expensive especially since I couldn't even sub the milk for oat milk. I do not think I'll be back soon with the price point as it is. I've had some good experiences at Chatime, so I was excited to try it again at the new location. Unfortunately, my experience was far from great. I bought three drinks, but two of them were not drinkable. They had a strange consistency - almost like something had curdled in the milk tea/boba mixture. I was only able to drink my own drink as it did not have the strange consistency. My drink was great - honey milk tea with coconut jellies. However, my two guests did not enjoy their drinks based on the strange texture. We tried pouring the chunkier drinks into a different bottle and shaking it up to try to disperse the chunks. It didn't help, though, so we just tossed them. I'm pretty disappointed and I don't know if I would recommend the taro tea at all. read more

Nope. Not coming back, as a boba lover who use to say "even bad boba is good boba' I can tell you that I was wrong...there is such a thing as bad boba. I'm not going to lie, when I'm in this area I go to Tiger Sugar but my coworker really wanted me to try Chatime (it should be noted my coworker likes this place). Having tried almost all of the boba shops in a 15 mile radius I figured why not. I'm the type of person who looks over a menu prior to arriving. I like to feel confident and I knew their menu boards were a little small. I decided on the coco cream which is plastered all over the website and inside the shop. I was told they were out of the cream and wouldn't be getting anymore in so I needed to find another drink. The next drink I recommend was also missing an ingredient. I ultimately went with a strawberry milk tea with regular pearls. This used to be my go to drink at other shops and holy crap did this end up in the garbage can. First off this was the most artificial tangy boba I have ever had. I was so annoyed to spend $6 only to throw it away. Second, the pears were all stuck together. I wasn't able to suck any up until I finally got one and saw it was stuck to about six other ones. Overall this was a huge fail and I won't be returning. Cozy boba tea shop located in Dinkytown (THEY MOVED, for those who didn't know). Overall, the boba is okay, definitely not the best- we ordered a regular size signature milk tea with tapioca pearls (50% sweetest) and a honey lavender green tea with tapioca pearls (no sweetest). I felt like the pearls were a bit hard- compared to the soft, chewy texture I'm used to and both the drinks were sweet every though we asked for less sweetest. Plus I would have liked a stronger tea flavor. Pros- You can choose your sweetest level, there is free Wifi, there are some Asian snacks you could buy to eat along with your boba, and it's a convenient location if you study/work at the U of M or live in the area. This was my first time at chatime and first time ever having bubble tea. I decided to get the mango green tea with the boba beads in it. Overall I loved the tea itself, however I would get half a scoop of the boba beads instead of a full, they got to be way too much. On the shelf they have asian staples and novelties that you can immediately munch on, and there is even ramen and soups that they will add hot water to. I have an apartment on the west bank so when the weather is decent I occasionally like to walk about 14 minutes across the 10th ave bridge and treat myself. The quality and authenticity surely trumps tea garden. The space is also not as tacky. Kind of has a rustic feel which suits how they also serve dogwood coffee if you are in the mood for that instead of bubble tea. Good prices, tasty milk tea, great boba, and plenty of space to meet people and study. I'm a creature of habit, so I've almost always gotten a regular signature milk tea with boba, usually with 80% sugar and 100% ice every time I've come here, or go to the Chatime at the Mall of America. And it's good! Why fix what isn't broken? The milk tea is creamy, and if you get 100%, I personally think it's too sweet, but I know some people prefer it on the sweet side. The boba is where Chatime really excels. Whether it's at MOA or in Dinkytown, the boba is always consistently soft, chewy, and sweetened. Aside from the signature milk tea, the thai tea or jasmine green milk tea are also great options. Compared to other bubble tea shops, Chatime tends to have more "trendy" flavors, and they're constantly adding more, which makes it a treat to come back (even if I order the same thing every time). I have to concur with many of the other reviews here in that the coffee is excellent. They use Dogwood and know how to make a lovely latte. If I were a student, I feel like this is the kind of place that would teach me what good coffee should taste like, so kudos for that. The barista was very nice as well and it wasn't too busy so my drink was done quickly. The atmosphere is the one area that I thought could use some improvement. It actually seems almost unfinished. There are plenty of outlets, which is awesome for students and laptoppers... but it's sort of industrial (vs. industrial chic). It's like it's ALMOST chic, but it's a drop ceiling removal and paint job and concrete floor installation away. Anyway, small thing that doesn't have anything to do with their ability to make a cup of coffee. I'm not in Dinkytown too often, so I don't really see myself becoming a regular here. This place has solid boba and solid pricing. They have all the basic flavors from strawberry to oolong with some seasonal flavors here and there and their boba servings are pretty generous. I can get my solid weekly fix of milk tea for around 5 dollars and being a college student on a budget that's definitely a score. Their boba menu options are what u should expect from a decent boba tea bar. They have around 15 flavors, a handful of toppings and adjustable sweetness. Their service is also pretty on par u shouldn't expect any problems there. Don't get me wrong you'll definitely run into a lot of higher quality bubble tea bars in your life but this place is pretty standard. Compared to kung fu and Sencha I'd say this is a decent choice for your weekly fix. I ordered strawberry matcha latte, regular size, 30% sweetness with pearls. I love how you can adjust your sweetness level from no sugar to 120%. I really enjoyed my drink however I thought it was going to be real blended strawberries with the matcha drink... I think the strawberry was more of a jelly like they shaked with my drink....? In the end, there was a chunk of it left and I didn't bother eating it. In addition, some of the pearls were sticking together in clumps...didn't enjoy that particularly... when I've gone to Sencha, I've never encountered that before. The two people working here we're really friendly and made me feel welcome. I tried a chai tea latte as it was one of their popular drinks. This was to be my first and last time trying a non conventional flavor for bubble tea. The chai tea is well made, I just didn't think it went well with the bubbles. Their bubbles were really good though, chewy texture with just a slight tinge of sweetness. Way too perfect for me. On my second day I has planned a lot of walking so i walked over to get a cup of oolong tea latte to start my journey. Unfortunately the person who took my order had no clue how to make the drink. She was waiting for the more experienced member who was occupied at that time to help her. From their conversation I figured she didn't know which was the oolong tea, and she wasn't sure the proportion of milk to tea ratio to make my drink. I was uncomfortable just watching her being lost. Chatime is a sweet little cozy shop, nestled in the heart of Dinkytown on the University of Minnesota campus. They offer several drinks (coffee, teas, boba, fruit smoothies) and unique snacks (brick toast, macarons). For the most part, I enjoy their drinks, my favorites being: Jasmine green milk tea, almond milk tea, and mango QQ. They have a "drink of the month" each month which allows you to buy 2 drinks for practically the price of one so it's good to always check what their special is. I do find some problems with consistency every once in awhile with the boba being too hard or my drink being too watered down. For the most part though, I enjoy the drinks. I've never personally tried their snacks myself as I find that they're just a bit too overpriced. Don't forget to get a stamp card while you're there!
