This place has been serving the Mac Groveland crowd forever. For the longest time, this was the only place to get bubble tea in this part of town and I was an off and on regular. Lately though, since the tea source is no longer in Highland, here is where I go for my teas. See that "Sencha" book in my pics? That's their tea bible. It has so many teas. Want to know how to steep the teas? They make it easy! Each label talks about the teas and how they taste and if there are added benefits. Plus, it tells you how you should steep them. I tried the mushroom today. Earthy and chocolaty and perfect on this chilly afternoon. The others have caffeine so I will be trying one of those, after I have my morning coffee of course. Plus they support local artists. Artwork, always changing, hangs from the walls of this place for you to purchase and bring home. A cozy little campus feeling place. I've visited other Sencha Tea Bar locations and am generally satisfied. The quality of their tea isn't amazing (mild flavor), but it provides me my caffeine fix. I tried this location and it was...very mid. I wasn't a fan of the tapioca pearl texture, it was VERY chewy and hard. It felt as if they weren't boiled long enough. The Thai tea flavor was mild and my drink tasted watered down. The staff were very kind and attentive. The layout and decor of the store is cute. I'd be willing to revisit this location and give them a second shot...perhaps with a different tea flavor? read more

Wizzards witchcraft and hogwarts themed tea! Amazing little place off grand east street parking. Cozy little spot for tea and getting your work done! First timer of the experience called boba. As it's my ,first time, I was walk-through a step-by-step to make my own personal drink from the ingredients and different tea's I decided to fill my cup with tapioca and mangos. I went with a little bit of lemon to add to citrus to the tea. I chose a black tea that had a hint of peach in it. Overall, I made an Arnold Palmer and it was the best accident I could do. As this is my first time I appreciated them explaining what the different flavors were or different textures because I feel like it's a little overwhelming not ever trying anything! So I'm extremely grateful for that experience! Overall, I'm excited to try more and different variations of the tea's and there is no better host then Sencha! Just visited this Sencha location for the first time because I wanted to check out the Harry Potter themed drinks that they are offering. I'm a huge HP fan and the drinks and vibe did not disappoint. The whole cafe is filled with Harry Potter memorabilia and themed food in the case. I loved how the staff went the extra mile. It's a great way to get people to come in for bubble tea in the winter ! I tried the Butterbeer and it's very comparable to the Universal Studios Butterbeer drink, if not even better. It was sooo delicious. Even the whipped cream had a slight caramel taste. I absolutely loved it. I got mine frozen without bubbles but you have the option to add any toppings you wish. Definitely tempted to come again and try some of their other flavors. read more

I used to love coming here, it was always so welcoming, we even came here for our anniversary. Friendly staff, great drinks... Now the quality has obviously dropped, the tea often tasting like burnt plastic. The staff my girlfriend and I used to converse with appear to have vanished. Now when we come in, the place feels empty and hostile, and when we try to order a pot of tea, we are met with rolled eyes or simply told we can't order a pot of tea. Despite all this, we let is slide, because we still held onto such great memories of this place. Our last visit was our final straw. While sitting at a table, we heard a barista openly talk bad about other baristas to a customer. We overheard quite an argument over this and some open swearing, and apparently the establishment doesn't allow construction workers to order drinks? What happened to being inclusive? What does that mean for us, as members of the LGBTQ community? Will we also not be allowed to dine in soon? We simply can't support a business that discriminates based on occupation, for this can open doors to other forms of discrimination. It's really a shame... read more

I ordered a cooler/blended matcha drink with tapioca pearls mostly because most of their drinks have lactose in them which I couldn't opt out of - huge bummer. The cooler was OK, next time I'll just stick to tea and add dairy free milk. They were having a Harry Potter theme while I was there which I loved but again, I sadly couldn't partake in the Butter Beer since I couldn't omit the dairy. They sell little toys and tchotchkes which I loved. I picked up a Sanrio Pochacco bubble tea plush which I am obsessed with ($10). I also got two bulk teas to take home: Mushroom hero and Lavender Earl Grey - it's very quant! I haven't tried the mushroom yet. read more

This place always has fun pop ups happening throughout the year and I was so excited to see that they were having a Harry Potter event. There were so many different themed drinks to try but of course I had to get the famous butterbeer with tapioca pearls. The drink was VERY sweet but still good - it tasted very similar to actual butterbeer from the universal parks! Since it is quite busy during these pop up events, the line can get a bit long. I wish there was more space for a line to form because it was confusing once we got into the shop. read more

A lot hasn't changed since then, which is great because you shouldn't mess with perfection. I've never had a bad drink here, and I've tried a lot of them. Today, I got the cookie butter latte with brown sugar crystal boba, and I think I have a new favorite. This is also a great place to meet with friends or study (I wrote a lot of papers here in college). They have consistent WiFi and it's nice and quiet, and you can't beat tea with a paper writing session. Parking is plentiful and there are good neighborhoods to walk through in the summer. read more

My happy place as they are open until 11 pm on Friday nights! Woot woot! My new Friday low key nights involve a little candlelight yoga and then bubble tea from Sencha. In the heart of St. Paul of Grand Avenue, it's such an intimate place to come at night. The employees have always been caring and I remember long ago a gentleman helped me make a special hot tea for me when I was feeling under the weather. Sencha has good tea but if you want good boba tea, I reminded going else where or leaving this as your last option since I know they open up later than other places. I remember I used to love getting bubble tea here until I started trying other places and I saw how sad the boba was, especially the pearls- most of the time now I find them hard and not chewy. I love this place for their loose leaf teas. Out of all of Minnesota bubble tea scene I feel like Sencha is more focused on their tea base than their milk teas. This is usually my go to location when I choose to get Sencha but my visit today may have changed my mind. Upon entering, the employee behind the counter was deep in conversation with someone who seemed to be another employee (potentially off the clock). They didn't even look my direction to acknowledge that I had walked in. I patiently waited and stared at the menu board allowing them time to finish their conversation seeing as the employee behind the counter seemed rather frustrated about being short staffed. While I left to go to the bathroom, another customer seemingly entered and had just finished placing their order when I arrived back at the counter. Hopeful that I would finally be able to place my order, I started to approach the till again. However, the employee started to make the order just placed but stopped mid measuring to start talking to the other employee again. She stood talking, not even trying to multitask and aired more of her frustrations again. At this point I lost patience because I couldn't imagine how long it would take to make this one drink after I saw how long it was taking for her to even get to taking an order. I left without a drink and probably won't try to return to this location. I felt unwelcome and almost as if I was going to be an inconvenience adding to the employees frustrations. The place looked disheveled and empty behind the counter. The store was empty of customers besides just 2 others on their laptops. The bathroom was out of paper towels, the soap dispenser was on the floor, and there were empty trash bags hanging around. I overheard the employee talking about a movie night and no one showing up- if it was an event here it makes me wonder if this ambience is a contribution to the non attendance. There used to be fun music and smiling employees with many customers hanging around. Something isn't working at this location and I hope management figures out what it is. Would love to be able to return to this location and feel positive vibes again. read more

Rude as hell employees. I literally just had my loose leaf tea thrown down at the counter. The cashier was way more interested in what was going on her phone. I asked questions and she was not even listening. The other employee was not interested in anything. As for the tea. It was great. But if your employees are awful then it does you no good. read more

Have now gone there 2 times, and as a passionate tea lover and customer, I won't bother ever returning. It's not the tea , it's completely the service. The first time They completely forgot to make my tea, I paid for a fun Harry potter tea and that was fine, But patiently waited 20 min in a practically empty store to NEVER have them bother to brew my tea. Then when I finally asked if they forgot, they didn't apologize or anything they just scoffed and and said I guess we forgot. and we had to wait another 15 min just to finally get it to go because after 35-40 min waiting we ran out of time.. The second time I tried to buy several grams of tea and I just wanted to ask how they sold it, to a non busy person to first be rudely ignored and then glared at me. The next person was nicer and very polite but didn't bother to tell me they were out of the tea I really wanted until after I paid then offered a substitute that was lesser quality and value as a replacement. we had already spent 21$ in other drinks and another 20$+ in bulk tea and tiped so we weren't being rude or cheap but seriously there are so many wonderful tea stores in the Twin Cities, If they don't need our business it's fine, I don't ever need to go there again and won't recommend it to anyone. read more

I'm not a bubble tea fan at all, but their unique flavors have turned my head. Kumquat and kiwi blended tea with kiwi pearls? Try that one. Period. I also had a "tea mojito" which tasted like a Moscow mule/mojito cross, and it was delightful. It's probably seasonal so I highly recommend you go ASAP. I feel they may have needed one more person working, as I saw only two. the woman with pink hair never made eye contact with any customers. she really seemed like she hated being there. i did see her texting, too, which was great as there were about eight of us waiting on drinks. the young man working with her seemed to care more about the customers, although I did see him lick his finger after he accidentally stuck it in a drink he was making and never stopped to wash his hands. $4.00 for an average cup of tea and an experience assuring me that I will never return. read more
