Nicos is the only place in Tucson that I enjoy. The only complain that I have (and I do wish the owners read this), is the lack of consistency. I always get the red sauce and the carne asada burrito. Sometimes I get a lot of meat and no guacamole, sometimes I get the perfect amount of meat and guacamole. Sometimes the red sauce is not spicy; sometimes the red sauce is too spicy. Overall, Nicos is great and I have always enjoyed their meal. However, lack of consistency can be a problem for some guests. read more

Favorite breakfast burrito spot in Tucson. For just under $6 you get a HUGE breakfast burrito with anything from sausage, bacon, chorizo, beans, and more. This was my first time here and I really didn't know what to order - anything that has the word "super" and the word "fries" in it, I have to give it a shot. I decided to go with the Super Fries and to add icing to the cake, I asked for extra fries. It ended up being $12.50 and ended up being an ENORMOUS amount of food! There was plenty of cheese, plenty of pico, meat, sour cream, I couldn't complain one bit. I would definitely recommend going with the fan favorite (Super Fries) but if you don't have more than two or three people, you might want to back off the ask for extra fries ($3). Just a side note, as much as I enjoyed my food there, one thing you will notice is they charge extra for pretty much everything. Salsa (extra), beans (extra), Conversation (extra). Just make sure you know what you are paying for in the event you ask for something extra, however; this was not a deal breaker for me. I'll be back! read more

I wasn't going to say anything but after reading that two other people injured a tooth with bones I have to. 2 weeks ago I bit down hard on a bone that was a bit bigger than a peice of carne asada but very hard. I cracked a tooth. I've been in pain for two weeks but wished then no animosity so didn't call them to tell them. My crown will be 2 thousand dollars. Nico's is awesome for quick Mexican food. I taught at an Elementary School nearby and used to do runs to this location to pick up lunch for my coworkers and I. The drive thru is always quick and efficient and I have yet to have them make a mistake on our order, which is great. I have to say the carne asada burrito is amazing. The meat is cheap but good, there's lots of cheese, and the burrito itself is HUGE. It's the type of meal that tastes great while you eat it and then start to regret immediately upon finishing since your stomach feels like it's going to burst. But it's worth it. My coworkers would swear by Nico's rolled tacos (though I haven't tried them myself) and the red salsa that you can get on the side is spicy and delicious. Meh. My husband *loves* Nico's and constantly craves them. I don't share the same sentiment. I've had them screw up too many times when I've gotten food from there, such as ordering a carnitas burrito and finding it full of gross half-frozen French fries. Yummy, I know. :-/ Today I was thinking about tacos for lunch and originally wanted Taco Bell (Del Taco is better but further away) but we compromised on Nico's. Okay, fine. It's close. And I'm going to have a carne asada and cheese quesadilla. You can't screw THAT up. Challenge accepted, said the folks at Nico's. We stopped by between a doctor appointment and class and were served quickly. My son had a quesadilla. He's been surprised to get cheddar cheese instead of queso fresco is chihuahua cheese like he's used to with authentic Mexican food. It was large but wasn't cut into slices. He was able to save some for leftovers. I had the carne asada. It was okay. I gave the leftovers to my son; there was plenty of steak, rice and beans left for another meal. I give Nico's 3.5 stars. I've been a patron here for years and am satisfied with my experiences. Friends and family from the east coast wish they had Nico's. You can't go wrong with their breakfast burritos. I'm also a sucker for their rolled tacos with guacamole. They're open 24 hours, which is especially convenient if you want a snack after going to the bars. They can get pretty busy and the restaurant cleanliness could be better. Almost 45$ for 2 burritos and super fries. & the girl in the drive through wouldn't give us more than 6 salsas. She had the worst attitude & acted like we were off the street begging for food, then the guy from the back came to the window practically yelling at us saying only 2 salsas per item!!!! Give me a break after spending that much money on just okay food, you could have given us more salsa!!!! I will not be going back, especially because you all were so rude. Nico's brings me back to high school days and crushing carne asada burritos into the wee hours of the morning. Granted it's in a different location now but, the food hasn't skipped a beat. In a recent late night stop, I ordered a carne asada burrito with refried beans and it was glorious. The tortilla has always been one of the stars of the show at Nico's and I was glad to see that it hadn't changed all that much. I remember them being a bit less "floury" (if that's a word) but, still pretty darn good. Make sure to ask for extra salsa as the red one is muy delicioso. read more

I'm Out-- Like anyone running to work who didn't eat breakfast, thought I'd stop and get my Friday burrito on--of course I like Chorizo, potato, egg & cheese--but they don't have one. They have a bacon cheese, potato egg and its 4.79. I went through the drive-in today and asked that they swap out the bacon and put in Chorizo--drive through attendant said--that will be 8.79--I said what? She said changing the bacon to Chorizo cause a price increase--can you hear my wheels spinning--I'm not a fan--won't go back. These burritos are good but not great and that price is ridiculous. For that money, I can have a sit down breakfast at the Blue Willow with coffee and their Chorizo breakfast burrito has real potatoes and not french fries. Sorry Nicos--I'm out. read more

Anyone who gives Nico's a low rating is clearly not from Tucson (damn University student out-of-towners fuck up this city). Nico's is a staple of the fast, shitty, salient Mexican food subgenre of restaurant. I know Tucsonans who call me to tell me how much they miss Nico's since they left Tucson. Why is hard to say--they food usually results in terrible indigestion and I wouldn't be surprised if it's taking years off our lives. But, as I said before, it's a staple. Everything on the menu is jam-packed with meat, cheese and hot sauce, and their grills are imbued with the flavor of twenty years of Mexican orders. (This is why the newly built Nico's wasn't as good--you didn't get years of flavor with each bite. It takes a few years to build that up.) I know kids who went here for their pre-prom dinner. I heard a rumor that the Nico's up in Cat Foot (richtown) was used as a front for the black tar heroin trade. Maybe it's the heroin that keeps us coming back. read more

This people shouln't be in the food business. The employees and specially the owners have the worst attitude. They treated me like if I was asking for free food. They seem to be in a bad mood the few times I have been there. The "tacos" were cold, the tortillas stale and the meat way too salty. I went with my coworker for lunch and when we told them about the issues they were rude, saying they would not refund our money bcse we tasted the food. Of course we had to tasted! that's how it works: the customer has to taste the product in order to check the flavors and quality. On the price to quality curve Niko's really shines.I find their portions are large and their food is excellent quality and definitely not dumbed down, although as an accommodation to their location in America they do use yellow cheese instead of Mexican cheese. I know so many people who love Nico's, so I have been loathe to express my disgust, but... I live a block away, and in the two years I've lived there, I've eaten there three times. In contrast, despite the fact that I will almost always choose local over [national] chain, I have eaten at La Salsa across the street probably five times, Chipotle 10 times. And just so you don't think I have chain-food mexican tastes, I enjoy other area Mexican fast food (los Betos and Viva Burrito) , not to mention random taco stands. There were a few times a couple of years ago that I got burritos there somewhat regularly. They were acceptable. Then, when I moved closer, I got one really bad one. The carne asada just did not remind me of other cow I have eaten. I got a breakfast burrito once a couple of months ago that was fine, and then, I tried another carne asada burrito a couple of weeks back. Again, I just couldn't shake the feeling that it was some other animal than cow I was eating. I had to toss it after a few bites. read more
