Ok, so after a conversation I had with a co-worker (Shawn-aka-Blast) about who makes good pizza, I decided (yesterday) that I'd give Nick's Pizza a visit. Parking-maneuvering in this neck of the woods "gun-hill road" by car and finding a parking space can be painstaking, but I was able to find parking about two blocks away. As I approached the establishment, I noticed that they had air conditioning, which certainly makes for a more comfortable experience, although I ordered 3 slices to go, dining in would have worked also. I'm a bit puzzled as to why they are using pizza boxes from other shops. They put my slices in a pizza box that read "John's Pizza" but anyway.. I purposely didn't have them heat up my slices there because I didn't want to risk having my pizza become luke-warm and then have to heat it again once home. As I took the first bite, and the taste settled in my mouth, this began to taste like every other ordinary slice of pizza that I've had. The tomato sauce didn't stand out, the cheese was ok and the crust was average, not too thick and not too thin. I read another review here on Yelp from a person who said that the pizza was tasteless, and that if she went back, it would be because they were the only shop open.. well, I'm close to agreeing with her. $3 for a huge cheese slice. What more can you ask for? Cash only and they are open late (do they even close?). I like when the owner is there because his pies seem to be bigger. This is NY pizza. Classic new york style pizzeria. Classic like it feels like you stepped into a movie classic. Old school booths, ancient cash register, gumball machines that you can win free prizes in if you're lucky... pretty cool idea in my opinion. I can't get over how BIG the slices are here. I've been going to Nick's intermittently over the years. Not sure if there is new management but my pie was extremely different from in the past. It was very doughy with a very thick crust throughout. Good flavor but I did not expect and did not enjoy this new crust. Disappointing. Please go back to your thinner crust. Just came back from Nicks, it's 1:57 AM and the place was packed. The pizza is really good, the cheese is nice and salty if that's what you like, I like my pizza cheese a little salty like that, the sauce was great it was a little tangy/acidic and also had a slight sweetness, but what really blew me away was the crust, it's thin and cooked till it has the perfect brown color and is a little crispy. The pizza folds perfectly in your hands to allow for the perfect big bite. Now I've only ever ordered pizza here, so I can't speak on the Calzones, sandwiches or anything else here, but if the pizza quality is superb I'm assuming all other items on the menu are prepared with the same level of care and attention to flavor. The only reason I gave Nick's Pizza 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's a little on the expensive side for the Bronx ghetto it's in, a poor neighborhood who's demographic is majority Hispanics, Latino's and Blacks who receive benefits from the government to help make ends meet, and at $3 a slice it a tad on they expensive side, I know plenty of places in the Bronx that make a good a slice at $2.25, $2.75 and even $1.00 pizza spots that are good, but still Nick's slices are of a nice size cooked perfectly, your paying for the quality of the slice you receive here not the quantity. The Pies range from $18 for a large with 8 nice big size slices or $16 for a small pie with 6 small size slices. Each topping on a slice is $1 extra, and on a pie is $3 extra, I don't know about the soda prices, but I did get a menu for all my fellow Yelper's or just anyone who needs help with pricing at Nick's Pizza to view, it's will surely help you all make your decisions on what to get and how much to spend at Nick's before you even step out the door, helping you all plan your trip to Nicks Pizza in advance. One more bit of information for you all Nick's Pizzeria is open till 4:00 AM, now that is great news, so make Nick's Pizza a stop on your list, leave a comment here after going if you so wish, and I hope everyone enjoys there food from Nick's Pizza. read more

I'm from CA and let me just say that NYC and Nicks in particular has ruined pizza for me. First off in CA not too many places sell slices and the ones that do are usually $4.50 a slice so at $3 I am not complaining at all. My big problem is now anytime I try to eat pizza in CA I am so disappointed because its nowhere close to Nicks. I have tried a slice plain and with a different topping almost every time I come, and I can honestly say not once have I ever been disappointed ever. I had my first slice at Nick's, early 1970s probably..... it was the BEST then, and the last time I stopped in there, a few years ago, it was still the BEST. I lived in the neighborhood then, like 30-40 years ago, and went there almost daily with my friends... playing ball and going to Nick's.... that's what we did ! We were so lucky to have such a great pizza shop nearby, I no longer live in NY, and there really isn't a pizza shop anywhere in the whole state here that compares to Nick's. Neighborhood staple for a few decades now. Best slices around by far. And at $3 a slice it better be. The ATM machine dispenses $5 bills, which I have never seen before and cannot fathom why someone would pay the ATM fee of $1.75 just to take out 5 bucks. Been going here for over 15 years. Any time I am back home, I pay my respect and indulge. At 3$, it is the largest and most tasty slice there is. Use to be a 1.50 but there is nothing else you will want to eat after this. Service is always fast and friendly. Just walk in, and say 2 slices with 2 fingers up. Seating is comfortable and specious and it's perfect for grabbing before getting on the train to downtown. Can easily ask them to keep it in the oven a little longer or take it out sooner to your liking. Fridge to packed with everything you want, and if you want more the corner store is like 2 doors down with a massive selection. By the time you get your drink, the pizza will be ready to be enjoyed. read more

Pizza here stank, hated it will never be coming back, the cheese just slid off the pizza and i couldn't chew it as it was like cardboard. I am convinced i could see my reflection on my slimy pizza. The establishment is unclean, there is grease instead of paint on the walls and the food was atrocious i could barely lift the pizza out of the box as it was stuck to it with grease. would give zero stars if that was an option. The sicilian is my favorite and it's distinctly different from their slice. Their garlic knots are decent which is the side I usually order with my sicilian. The owners are usually on the premises as well which I consider a big plus. Nick's Pizza has been there since around 1991 and they're actually Italian people. They talk with a real old school New York accent, too. I go here at least once a month. I often have short conversations with one of the owners working there and some of the other guys who have been there for several years already and know me. They're also open until 3am. But when I'm not in New York sometimes I think of that sicilian and Nick's is one of the things I'd miss about New York. Get your sicilian while it lasts with all the changes New York undergoes.
