Our group of eight seniors had a reservation at Nick's in Ocean City , Md. we waited approximately an hour after ordering while several tables that arrived after us were served. When two of us asked about the delay the man who identified himself as owner/manager responded, " what's your hurray? Do you have somewhere to go? Those people had reservations " instead of checking on our order or apologizing. When our meals finally arrived he became angrier during the discussion, ordered the food taken away and demanded our group leave, which we did. Hey, Had a wonderful time here. We were happily greeted upon arrival. (I did call ahead of time to see if they were open because of the time of year, many establishments were closed for the warmer months). So it was a plus that they were open. We were seated in the dining area. In the front there was a bar area and many televisions. The waiter was so nice and courteous. Explained every question that we had and was very helpful. He poured us some ice water in a glass and also brought out complimentary rolls and butter to the table. They were warm, soft, and delicious He then took our order. I scoped the menu before arriving so I knew exactly what I wanted. It came (not too quick but not too long either) just means it was freshly made which I can appreciate. Food was okay. The 5-star reviews are interesting considering the actual quality of this restaurant. We went in tonight for dinner and their holiday special drinks at "St. Nick's" (which has become kind of a tradition) and left, honestly, kind of disgusted. The food is mediocre at best, but don't let the owner hear that because he'd probably argue with you that they have the best food around. I ordered the brisket which was very thinly sliced (probably to make sure it was actually tender) which was basically swimming in soy sauce- and here I thought brisket was barbecue. The owner came by and bragged that it had spent 12 hours cooking overnight and they pulled it out of the oven that morning- so how was it still fresh at 6pm (I guess from sitting in a vat of hot soy sauce)? We were also dripped on multiple times from a leaking pipe above our heads. The waiter said "oh yeah that's been leaking for years- the owner is too lazy and too cheap to fix it". We told the owner who was walking around to all tables- not to ask how everything was, but instead to crack jokes and then leave immediately- and he said something along the lines of "oh yeah well did you see the rain this morning" and then immediately walked away. Final straw was 2 women in our party went into the women's bathroom and there were visible leaks in the ceiling with 3 tubs catching the drips, visible holes in the wall and tiles missing, and only one of the stalls actually locked so only one of them could use the bathroom at a time. We came in for happy hour. Drinks were good and so were the appetizer ribs. The bar and resturuant looked great. The fries came out saturated in old greese and the nachos were dry and void of toppings. The people next to us complained about their chicken tenders being dry. Some guy came out of the back and said to them, "that is the way we make them", and they could make them again or get something else. It's not what I would want to hear if I thought about coming back again to explore the menus further. Had a good experience at Nick's last night. The food was good and prompt, and service was very attentive. Our waiter, in particular, seemed like a very nice fellow. Initially, I was at a bit of a loss as to all the negative reviews, but I think part of it might be how odd and outdated the restaurant is inside. The entire wall that's a Jumbotron with animation like Finding Nemo is just...weird. And the table next to us, which I presume was reserved, had ridiculously oversized candelabra on it. The decor was like something out of a late 1960s sitcom. Maybe I should have only given them three stars, but they helped us out of a jam last night when the first restaurant we went to for dinner clearly wasn't getting any food out, so we left that one and landed at Nick's. read more

We always come to Nicks for the beautiful holiday decorations in December, but we always leave disappointed by service & food. Bartenders are rude & have no customer service skills. Example 1: We came for happy hour and sat at the bar. The food served to us was cold on delivery so we asked for it to be heated up. We were told they don't reheat food and we should have eaten it quicker so it didn't get cold. We were appalled by the bartender's response and reiterated to him that the food was served cold to us! Example 2: When it was time to leave, my husband asked for a takeaway box from another bartender who informed us that they don't allow customers to box up happy hour food. (I've never heard of this!! Locals actually told us not to go here. They said it's not any good but my husband insisted because of memories with his dad here 20+ years ago as a small kid. I'm so glad we came. The food was good! I loved ambiance it was amazing. Crab dip was good, Ribs were good, flat bread was good, wine and beer good, service was excellent with louie. No idea what others have a problem with here. Lol! I've only written a few reviews, but I have to leave one for my experience last night. We have owned a condo nearby for decades and go here every year. Went last night, and thought I may be in trouble when it took five minutes for a hostess to even show up. The place was basically empty. Food was served within five minutes, which makes you know everything's just kept warm. My fries were barely warm. I ordered baked beans as well and they were hard and tasteless. The ribs, which usually are fall off the bone And tender, or fatty and chewy. And they were absolutely slathered with sauce. I never saw my waiter again to get a refill in my drink, which was empty my entire dinner. The big thing, though, is within an hour after I left, I had a fever of 102.7, severe, shaking and chills, diarrhea, and vomiting. I don't think I will be going back read more

I should have listened to the other reviews. Went by Thursday evening, sign out front "last Thursday for 1/2 price strip steaks". Decided to go against what everyone else said and since the parking lot was mostly full, we decided to go in. Steak, baked potato, garlicky green beans came out very quickly. The potato and beans were hot. The steak was seasoned with a salty rub (?), couldn't quite figure out the flavor but it was just okay. Biggest problem, I asked for medium rare, it was medium rare but absolutely dry. I'm not sure if it was cooked ahead of time and then sat and reheated? Normally when you get a steak or burger medium rare it is juicy, this was so dry and chewy I could not eat it. Hubby got the ribs, tender but not a lot of flavor. The atmosphere was indoor/outdoor. I really liked the greenery hanging from the ceiling. The staff were great, our waiter was attentive and very personable. The food on the other hand is mediocre. The chips were stale, but the spinach artichoke dip was good. I had the teriyaki chicken with rice and pineapple, it was so salty, I was unable to eat even half my food. Teriyaki chicken is a dish I get often, there was so much salt in the rice, chicken and even the pineapple. I was missing four sauces from a carryout order which added up to eight dollars. I called to ask for a refund for the sauces only after I found a very long hair in my ribs. When I spoke to a manager, he told me that his business is not equipped for refunds. he offered a credit which would consist of additional hairy ribs. I told him that I also own a business and credit card refunds are in fact a possibility. I paid via credit card over an automated web service. I left it with him, scolding me over the phone and telling me he can't do anything else more for me than he's offering. He was very condescending and to use the word ma'am over and over in an attempt to make me feel less than as a woman customer. We stopped in last night for drinks. The bartenders were super friendly. What really stuck out to me was the hostess. I think she said her name was Chloe. I'm not sure if the bad reviews were just an off night or exaggerated but we are at the bar for happy hour and it was fantastic. The male bartender had a great personality and they had lots of sports on TVs. We took advantage of the HH drink And food specials at the bar which were a steal. The HH food menu has 10 dollar meals for ribs sandwhiches pork nachos, etc and cheap drinks. It's a steak and bbq spot that during season is packed and there's always a wait. Off season you can get in anytime which allows for great service. My only suggestion is to reinstall soap dispensers in the men's room - one is missing and other was empty. Oh no! Nicks used to be my favorite go to for baby back ribs. Not so any longer. We ate there yesterday and the ribs were tender but not tasty. Instead of a full or half rack, the choice is 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12/14 bones. I wanted to take some home so I got 10. The "slab" was so narrow I didn't get much meat (since it didn't taste very good I guess that was fine but expensive). Their homemade Cole slaw used to be so good, but now it is just from a bag; not so good. Our server, #745, was excellent, but even he couldn't make up for the poor tasting food. We've stayed very close to this location for a couple of years now during bike week. Normally I'm all about seafood when I'm in town, but the first time staying at this location, we were beat from a long ride in the rain and this place was right across the street so we thought we'd give it a whirl. We've been back several times and it's almost a ritual now. First night in town we go to Nick's. No time wasted on decisions about where to go. Nice ambiance. A giant screen with fish videos playing is pretty relaxing. It's like watching a giant aquarium. Food has always been decent and not too expensive for this town. The sides generally are on the smaller side, but if you want bulk, get a loaded baked potato. This time around I got my usual slab of ribs (6 bones.) My sides were baked beans (run of the mill, but not bad) and a pickled cucumber and onion medley that was just outstanding. My wife got the chicken Chesapeake and a baked potato. They were both delicious. I helped her out a little but we still left a half potato on the plate and we were both too full for any dessert. Staff was friendly and attentive. The hostess seated us and didn't realize the table hadn't been wiped down after a previous customer, but our server immediately pointed it out before we were settled in and corrected the situation immediately. Slight oversight but quickly resolved. No complaints there at all. Service was fast. Food came quickly and was at the right temperature. Our server checked in on us regularly but was not bothersome. Our bill for the two of us sans tip was just over $65. Not bad for chicken Chesapeake with a signature drink, and for ribs and beer. We'll be back next year. read more

We had a nice dinner tonite at Nicks- decided to try their ribs as they had them on special for the first of the season, and we have enjoyed them before. They were a little dry, but we enjoyed them as before. We really like the old decor better than the new one (it seems quite dark - I like to see my food). I noticed they still have the prime rib, though they took away the queen portion - so the new listing is too much for me in both cost and portion. Consider bringing back a queen size as well as the king size - perhaps offering the king as a meal for two... I noticed when the bill came, the food was totaled, then they arbitrarily added a 20% tip, ( which wasn't mentioned ahead of time) then when the bill was printed, an additional tip line as put on then receipt. My friend and I were in the mood for BBQ. Arrived for a late dinner at about 9pm. The place was absolutely deserted at this time we actually enjoyed. Our waitress was friendly and service was quick. Update: A party of 10 was seated almost immediately during peak dinner hours on a Saturday. I loved my crabcake in my most recent visit, but the steak was dry even cooked medium. Mac and cheese is amazing and I wish it was served as a side to the entrees too. The crust is seasoned and salty, and the unique cheese blend is a dream. Other than the very inviting interior and our sweetheart of a waitress, this place is a wreck food wise. I really do hate giving one star, but everything that we had other than the wedge salad for $14 was terrible. This is not barbecue. They very obviously do not smoke the ribs, but boil the shit out of them and then dump sauce all over. Sure they were fall off the bone, but so is anything that you boil the flavor out of. This is what I get for ordering ribs in a place that doesn't have a smoker outside, but friends of mine said they were good. All of the side choices are clearly precooked and sit around in a pot all day, except for the soggy french fries. The corn was way overcooked and chewy, and the collard greens were mushy and flavorless. But hey, at least all the sides come in tiny cups about the size of Dixie cups. We came to this place for the very first time this year. I know that places are hurting because of Covid, but to have one waitress taking care of over 30 people, and I knew we were in for a loooooong visit. We were seated for about 10-15 minutes before our waitress, Anastasia, was able to make it to us. Another 10 minutes after that to get our drinks. Let me say, this waitress was doing the absolute best job she could, and my review about her would be a five star shiner! She came back and got our order for food (they were out of crab dip....how is a restaurant in Maryland out of crab dip?!!).....and let the waiting begin. And waiting. And waiting. I watched tables come in after us and leave before us, having a full meal and paid. To top it off, their dining room was 81 degrees (I was seated beside the thermostat and could see it). Also, for a place that had everyone other table/booth roped off for social distancing, they sat someone RIGHT BESIDE US! Simply unacceptable. Meanwhile, Anastasia is still doing her best to take care of everyone, and brought us four rounds of drinks before our food started showing up. I got the chicken and ribs combo with fries and collard greens. The ribs were ok, as was the chicken but none of our food was hot. It was maybe lukewarm. The fries were good and the collard greens were in so much juice they were rendered inedible. Nothing like grandma's, I'll tell you that. Ordered from here f 6/26/2020 Went back to this place because I liked it a lot the first time. Ordered a whole rack or ribs with wedge fries and baked beans, and a Mac and cheese. The ribs were still good in taste, but they had a hair on it. The baked beans and fries tasted good. The Mac and cheese lacked seasoning/flavor. Since I liked it so much the first time, I would like to go back and give it a third chance. But the hair has to go. Lastly I suggest that they train their staff. Brought my mom down for the Festival of Lights. We always come to Nick's and have always enjoyed the combo's they had. This visit was much different. The Christmas decorations were so nice and welcoming however the food not so much. The onion loaf was greasy and had way to much batter for our liking. My mom and I both ordered the ribs.The ribs were very tender however the sauce on the ribs were unedible. They had such a strong vinegar taste, we both sent back the entree. The ribs were taken off of our check however a manager never came to apologize or speak to us which I thought was poor customer service. We will not be returning in the future. read more

We went to House of Ribs on a Saturday night- we didn't have reservations and were able to get a table right away. It was about 30% full on a Saturday in June at 8pm. The decor was nice, good menu but pricey. We expect that at the beach, but we also expect good food to match those prices. The food was... okay. Brisket Mac and cheese and onion rings were good. Crab cake was below average. Baked potato was cooked but had a solid texture and was served plain- i had to ask for butter and sour cream. Green beans from a can, super oily crab dip. The issue I had was with the flies. They were everywhere. Once our meal came out it was out of control, they were all over our plates, landing on our arms and faces. We had to actively swipe them away while eating our dinner. I finally complained to the hostess and the server came over to apologize and offered to move us. We were done eating and not wanting to finish after the experience so we declined. I asked for a new Mac and cheese to be packed to go since the two at our table had been fly food and they gave us a new one with our check- $200 for 4 people. No manager came over to check on us and no gratis drinks offered while we waited for the replacement. I sent an email to complain about the flies and mentioned my disappointment about the lack of manager presence. The manager assured me that they knew what happened and had been there the whole time.
