Crab bag was such a great, fun place to have dinner! Teresa took care of us at the bar upstairs and she was incredible! Have been in OC for the week, looking forward to real MD crabcakes. We've been to 2 very popular and highly rated crabcake restaurants Saturday and Sunday and last night decided to try the Crab Bag. It was popping, no doubt, and had maybe a 15-20 minute wait but got our table inside. Our server came right over and took our drink orders. I ordered the cream of crab soup while my brother-in-law got the Maryland crab for starters. It was a nice sized portion and absolutely delicious! We all ordered crabcakes with the asparagus and potatoes. WOW! These were hands down the best crabcakes we've had yet. Large chunks of crab, very little filler, just enough to hold them together. Come here every year and eat as many crabs as possible. Love the whole experience of eating crabs and the conversations as it requires you to not be on your phone. We got a bunch of appetizers which included the burnt ends, fried calamari, crab cheese fries, hush puppies(all were devoured so there was no pictures taken.) This was my first time getting an actual meal here outside of just the crabs and the buffalo chicken mac and cheese was definitely a hit. The service here is usually great as there is a lot of people there and they are all running around and able to keep good service to each table. Huge Shout out to Crab Bag from our visit this past August, hands down the best orange crushes we had on our trip! Besides being strong and so refreshing as crushes are, they were at happy hour price for $5 during the day! We definitely frequent Crab Bag on our yearly trips down to the area and have NEVER been disappointed which says a lot. They have an VERY expansive menu of all things crab but also BBQ and many other things. Great casual spot for families as well. Our kids always like their food here. Macaroni and cheese for kids is huge but great. I personally love their crab soups and always get some kind of oysters. My husband typically opts for one of their steam pots and leaves quite full. It gets very busy on summer nights so we often find lunch time and late afternoon to be the best. Just a quick tip for you! We love it here! Every year that we vacation in Bethany Beach we stop here for a delicious seafood feast!! We got lucky this night that the lobster/crab legs pot was on their special menu. We stayed at a local Airbnb and discovered Crab bag in the last week of August. We went there after going to another establishment for AYCE crabs so we were just going for dinner. We were able to walk in 6 adults and 1 toddler. It's a super casual place so no need to dress up. The food was delicious and the pricing is affordable. The second floor kinda had an odor. Maybe it was the cleaning supplies but my sister did not like it. I didn't really notice it but the next time we returned, we sat on the main floor and it did not have a smell. We did AYCE the next time and it was delicious. It was worth the price and the service was great. The crabs were fat, warm and seasoned. TL;DR - this is the real authentic experience. Wear casual clothes, be prepared to get your hands dirty, bring an appetite. Longer version: California native, been a fresh Dungeness guy my whole life, routinely buying live off the boats @ San Francisco wharf. First visit to Maryland, was told by the group of friends I had to try a traditional crab joint while in Ocean City. They all grew up in Maryland (was here for wife's high school reunion), so I trust their word on this. There are MANY crab joints on the main drag in Ocean City, from the end of the boardwalk all the way up the strip. They insisted this place, so in we go. First floor presents a long bar, and many tables, all of which are full. Football on TV on every wall. A beer and margarita kind of joint. For a party of 8, we wait about 5 minutes and are taken upstairs. lots of picnic bench longer tables, 2nd floor view of the main street and the rows of resort hotels. Long sheet of thick brown paper is laid down on the full length of the two picnic tables. We order drinks and few different appetizers - oysters, hush puppies, and few other things. All of it super casual, and the food is good, beer is cold, margaritas not bad (could be a little stronger). Then the main meal. Two dozen "medium large" blue crabs poured out of two brown paper shopping bags. Looks like they've been steamed in Old Bay and the shells are heavily crusted with seasoning. They are substantially smaller than the Dungeness we get in California. One of our friends has gotten a side of mac and cheese, which is huge. Another of our party opts out of the crab and gets fish and chips entree, as he says "crabs are too much work for too little payoff". We also have a few cobs of corn in the bags. And away we go with mallets and knives. There's a traditional method of opening up these things to get to the meat. Really simple to learn, and I suppose having "the process" gets automatic, but it ain't brain surgery. The smaller size generally means your payoff is in the claws and the body. Unlike Dungeness or King, Maryland Blue crabs don't yield much meat from the tiny legs. The Old Bay seasoning is tasty, and I get this is the traditional way to do this. Great fun time with friends - crab shells and debris, beer and margaritas. I will say this - service was good, food was tasty...and Maryland blue crabs are substantially smaller than SF crabs, which I think I still prefer. The taste is subtly different (and Maryland crabs are tasty, just a little different), but the difference in size makes the labor/payoff ratio so much better for Dungeness. read more

We came here as a big family dinner and it was a nice time. The ambience is very beachy, sitting at a picnic table for hours is a little hard in the back, especially for the older folks. But when you're a big group you take what you can get! The food was good! One of my crab leg clusters was a bit over steamed but everything else was good! We heard about this restaurant from a local, so we decided to throw caution to the wind and check it out. It's decorated like a crab shack, but has vintage posters throughout. The service was excellent and she knew the menu well. We ordered a dozen blue crabs for 5 people, fries, coleslaw, and hushpuppies. I don't eat coleslaw very often, but my mother in law said it was good. The fries are tasty, but those hushpuppies! These were the best hushpuppies I've ever eaten! The crab was steamed to perfection using Old Bay seasoning. Holy cow! We forgot about talking as we broke into our crabs, racing to get to the delicious meat. So glad we listed to the local recommendations for Crab Bag because dinner here was delicious! Vibes were laid back crab shack but fast moving and lots of tables indoor and outdoor. To start the all day everyday happy hour was amazing and the $5 orange crush was the freshest tasting we had all weekend. So disappointed by this place. Our party of seven arrived on a Sunday night and had an hour wait. This was understandable given it was the summer time and a weekend. A group of us went to the bar to grab drinks to kill time. I was really looking forward to the watermelon crush only to be turned away by the bartender because my license has been expired for a day(my birthday was the day prior and I'm 29 years old). She wouldn't even accept a picture I had of my passport. Then another bartender who wasn't even serving us told me I couldn't sit with my friends despite there being other empty seats and I wasn't ordering anything. I ordered 6 xl crabs (about $75?), 2 half chicken fried, full rack of ribs, and a crab cake. I didn't eat the crab cake so I can't rate it but it was a bit on the small side. The chicken was the best part. It was hot and fried crisp. Now there were sections that had a little more clump of salt than others but I loved the texture and taste for the most part. The crabs were fully packed and moist. Also delicious. So those are their main items and didn't disappoint. The ribs... well, it didn't really look like they were smoked or anything. In fact, I would have guess they might have been boiled and then finished in the oven. There was no bark, smoke ring, or even a glazed look. It just looked a bit meh. But it was moist and tender for the most part so it was more than edible. But the appearance, since I smoke my own ribs, leaves a lot to be desired. We didn't have to wait at all. We got the dozen steamed ML crab. It was $99. It takes about 20-30 min for them to come out. They bring you the mallet, plastic knife, butter, vinegar, and old bay. Make sure to ask for the crab cracker. Omg the crab has so much old bay to the point (don't judge me) we had to Wipe it off. I lived in Ocean City, Md for 4 years. Prior to that my husband and I live in Ocean Pines, Md. just over the 90 bridge. The Crab Bag was always fantastic. Great service, food and drinks. The staff was very professional and happy to help you. The crabs were seasoned better than any other place and steamed just right. The crab cakes and cream of crab soup were delicious. I noticed that their websites shows that they have made improvements to their restaurant. Looks great. I do miss the original Bohemian face sign. This was the perfect sign that I knew where to go. Came here for the crabs! We ordered a dozen large crabs, which were honestly smaller than expected, but o-k. We then ordered half a dozen of XL, which wasn't much of a noticeable difference, but better. The crab meat itself was VERY GOOD, sweet, and fresh tasting, so that was the savior of the night. You could tell that it was brought to the table AS SOON AS they were finished steaming. Nice, fresh, and HOT! In the best way. We just had some beers and crushes, which were all good. Nothing special but good for what we were getting. I would say the service was fantastic. We had such a great waitress who was very patient, friendly, and attentive. We ordered one dozen of the extra large crabs and they were meaty and delicious. I normally eat at least eight crabs in one sitting, but these were so meaty that I was full after four crabs.
