Stellar bar. Thoroughly enjoyed every second I spent here. Bar itself is lower than waist-level. Initially weird but then you get used to it. It was fine. I went in because I was advised that they might have karaoke, but not on that night. There was a live musician but the volume was SO LOUD. I'd ordered a drink and was gonna head out after that, but they have a $10 card minimum, so I had to get another just to close out. But thankfully, with open container allowances, I was able to take it to go with me. It is a decent dive bar. But I don't think I would have gone in without hoping for karaoke, and I wish I had seen the $10 minimum before getting my first drink. read more

Fun place! Live music, get your dance on. I can't speak to the food because I didn't eat here, but basic draft beer tasted like it should. Staff and other patrons were friendly. If you don't like cigarette smoke, just be aware that you'll leave smelling like it. read more

Late-night bite turned... meh. We stopped here hoping for a quick fix, but the pizza unfortunately missed the mark--bland crust and forgettable toppings. I pivoted to the buffalo chicken salad, which surprisingly saved the experience. It was fresh, had a decent kick, and left me satisfied. Ambiance-wise, it felt a bit like a takeout-focused spot--low-key, dim lighting, not much energy due to just the pool table being playable but they have plenty of TV's to keep you entertained. Had a blast here this last Saturday afternoon for the Georgia-Florida game. Great crowd and fun environment. The comp Jello shots after each UGA TD were an added benefit. Came in to celebrate my friends birthday. We bought drinks, music was nice, bartenders were incredible. However, the owner was horrible. He told us "we don't do that here"..... I can only assume he meant me dancing with my female friend... and then proceeded to yell at his bar staff in front of everyone. Calvin is a jerk and gets his kicks being rude to lesbians. read more

This place was hopping every night we were here in Tybee! Live music most nights of the week, a lively clientele, cold beer, excellent service. Didn't try the food but EVERYONE says it's great and the kitchen is open late. I gave this place 4 stars because of the awful layout. It looks different from my last trip here but it's sooo hard to get to the bar. It's kind of sunken so you are basically leaning over someone to order a drink (seating at the bar is limited) and there is nowhere to stand if you don't have a seat at the bar or a table. The pool table is in the front kind of by the bar so that is ackward and in the way too! read more

I ate here March 17, 2018 after attending the big St. Patrick's Day parade in nearby Savannah, GA. I rode down there on a party bus from Atlanta and after the parade they decided to stop by Tybee Island. When we got off the bus, most of us split up with some people wanting to hang out at the beach and others looking for a place to eat. I didn't know anyone on my party bus so I kind of separated from the others and ventured out alone. Nickies1971 is only about a block from the beach and I decided to stop here since it didn't look as crowded as some of the nearby restaurants. When I walked in, I kind of felt like Eddie Murphy in the movie 48 Hours. Do you remember the scene where he was the only black guy in the redneck bar? It was kind of like that for me when I first entered. I want to make it clear that the word redneck doesn't always mean something bad. There are some rednecks who're just proud to be from the south and there's nothing wrong with that. There are also some rednecks who can be prejudice and they let their inner feelings come out once they have a few drinks in them. Most of the patrons there were of the former but there was one guy who was of the latter description and he had something to say to or about me most of the while I was there lol. He looked like he may have been in his 50s and was wearing a baseball cap and wore a white mustache that made him look like a walrus. And he was drinking a beer. "Are you lost?" he said. I told him I was looking for a menu and then he said he didn't work there but I should ask the women at the counter "if you're not scared." The two women working at the counter seemed nervous at first but they were nice. Both appeared to be in in their early 40s or late 30s. One was a blonde southern belle type and the other had reddish brown hair and wore a shirt that had tight see-thru sleeves. The designs on the sleeves made it look like she had a lot of tattoos on her arms from a distance. I ordered the shrimp basket on their menu which consists of 12 pieces of shrimp, hush puppies and fries. It cost $13.95. The restaurant is very clean on the inside. Most of the furniture is wood tables and chairs. They also have a couple of pool tables and outside, on the other side is a patio area. I sat at the bar where they were taking orders and there was a huge tv behind it showing the NCAA basketball tournament. As I waited for my order, the guy with the walrus mustache had more to say. "Hey...you know I have some black friends. Whoops, I said that wrong, didn't I? Hehhehheh." I just shook my head, laughed it off and said, "No, you didn't say it wrong." I was trying to keep watching the game on tv. I did notice a younger guy sitting at the bar who seemed embarrassed by what the guy was saying. Then he said, "I got arrested earlier this week. It was because I was wearing my NRA hat. I guess that's too much for some people these days." There was a married couple who had also been drinking and they had a huge, but well behaved dog with them that was sprawled out at their feet while they drank. They were nicer than the other guy and started talking to me while I waited. The woman was asking me where I was from, etc. "He don't talk much. Oh, he'll talk to you but not to me," said the guy with the walrus mustache to the woman. And so it went until I got my food, which was maybe 20 minutes after I ordered. Everything was well done, with the shrimp being a little overdone but it was still delicious and it was a huge helping too. It was so much food that I couldn't eat all the fries. By the time I left, the guy with the walrus mustache had wandered out to the patio area with his beer and I didn't see him again. Looking back on it, the experience there was funny to me. The guy was harmless and probably just wanted to talk to somebody. Tybee Island is very small and if I return there I believe I'll eat at Nickies1971 again. I recommend it based on the cleanliness of the place and the quality of the food. Four stars. read more

I've been to Tybee many times & cant believe I've never been here! My son & I went out to the Island on a mini vacation & decided to stop in since it was close to our hotel. Soooo glad we did. What a cozy bar w/ live entertainment every night. Food was great with good portions. The bar set up was like something I've never seen before... like comfy patio chairs. It's definitely something different & interesting to see. I'm saving the best for last, our bartender Kasey is bad ass! She's fast, friendly, efficient & knows what she's doing. We came back a second night in a row to see her. One important thing also, is she keeps the bar super clean. When she cleaned the bar with a clean bleach smelling rag as soon as we sat down I was in love. If you drink bottled beer your first one comes with a souvenir, complimentary coozie. Just left this bar. Sat down and a younger man came up making a scene next to me. I said "I'm sorry did I take your seat" he flicked his cigarette at me and said "f*ck right off". He was very aggressive and as a 25yr old smaller woman, very unsettling. Turns out he's dating the bartender, who's arms and neck are full of bruises.... Asked a few of the locals, and he chases customers out of the bar every night. Do not recommend unless you want to get harassed. Thanks! read more

Went in looking for a spot to watch college football. They have lots of big screen tvs. Friendly staff. Food was meh. Darts and pool table.

Credit card fraud!!!Had a promising start after a day at the beach- place was lively and seemed fun for a Sunday afternoon. Service started off good- with quick beer delivery- we placed an order for some simple apps (onion rings, cheese quesadilla etc). We eventually got a second round of drinks, then a third and still no food. Nearly two hours after we ordered- our server had also disappeared and our drinks sat empty for quite some time. I finally spotted her behind the bar and I went to ask her to cancel our food as the wait was ridiculous- and that I wouldn't be paying for anything we hadn't received. A few minutes later she angrily slapped a bill for our drinks on the table with my credit card (roughly $40). I tipped 20% and left- obvi the food delay wasn't her fault. Three days later and the complete charge to my card was $125!!!! So they no doubt charged me for that food, plus some more and a generous tip. Couldn't get a hold of a manager at Nickies1971 yet- but have begun a dispute with my credit card. Check your credit cards people. read more

This is absolutely my fav, laid back, anything goes place on Tybee to grab a drink or quick bite. The oysters are cold, fresh and well shucked! The beer cheese is stout and some of the best I've had. Fries are hand cut with skin on and yummmm! I can't say enough good about the service during the day. Little blonde chick who's super duper-she makes a hell of a drink and Bloody Mary!!!!. The drinks are cheap and good selection of booze and beer. Karaoke Friday's and live music other weekend nights. Parking can be a beast if busy but it's worth it. They have steel tip darts, pool tourneys, TVs for sports fans and Keno too! read more

We showed up at one with the bar closing at three and she kept everything open for us to hang out and play pool over a couple of drinks despite being the only people in the bar. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I spent the weekend at Tybee Island with a group of my friends, the owner was at the door when we tried to walk into this bar. He said they were at capacity & 40 ppl would have to leave before we could get in. We had 10 people in our group so I understand distancing rules, but that was ridiculous. Why?.. Mind you, my friend beside me.. is black. He looked at him and closed the door while saying that he would let in whoever, he wanted to let in. We let him know EXACTLY how we felt about this. We talked to the locals and apparently it's known how the owner is and the staff isn't any better. I urge you to stay FAR away from this bar. It's 2020 and it's time we do our part to stand up against racism. read more

Was there last night with some girlfriends just trying to enjoy an outing on our little vacation & over heard the bartender tell another customer they didn't have food or drink menu's- which is funny because she offered us menus-, tried charging only certain women of this group $2 for a cup of water but gave us cups of water for free??... also as another lady from their group was paying their tab the bartender told her to "take that N* (n- word) with you. It looked like it was the ladies birthday of whom she called the n-word, this group of people did not cause any problems & looked like they were just trying to enjoy their night. Not only was I offended but I quickly realized many other customers were as well. We politely asked for our tabs & left. I do not care to support a place that has rude employees that feel the need to call innocent middle aged women names or be racist- its 2019 why is this even a thing anymore? They were not causing problems nor being rude to anyone. So if anyone reads this please take a moment to pray for that VERY rude bartender & to the owner/ manager I would like to think this would be addressed with whatever bartender you had on staff last night. It was disappointing. Walked in, the girl behind the bar looked at us and said nothing. We eventually just got a table and sat down. She came over and had absolutely NO personality. No greeting, it was "what do you want to drink?" The service stayed the same horrid level the whole visit. Watched two girls walk in and sit at the bar and asked for water. The waitress (who in the time we ate our food had smoked two cigarettes & didn't wash her hands after. Grabbed two glasses, washed them out with her hands, filled it from tap, and carried lemons around in her hands. The food was blah. Nothing special. The nachos were bland and flavorless. My mother got fries, they were super salty. My salad was good, but the chicken was cheap precooked refrigerated chicken. The bacon tasted bad. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. read more

We were in there tonight and the place is lovely. We had a blonde waiting on us sitting at the bar and she was fantastic. Incomes a dark-haired girl with lots of tattoos. Silly looks like the place was slammed hurrying around and we try to make conversation but she would not have it. We watched her have a couple people leave the bar based upon her throw on menus at them when they see the down and could not take the time to interact with them. So, I have lived on Tybee Island for two years and frequent this establishment fairly regularly- no longer. I turned up on game night, Georgia v TCH, championship....an hour and a half early for the game to ensure I got a seat. So, no seats at the bar and had to take a four top in the back. Talked to the bartender and said, heah, let me know if a seat opens up at the bar because I don't want to take your table unnecessarily. He said good thing because if it gets busy, I'm going to seat people with you. I get that and said, no problem. So another half hour goes by and the owner, Calvin, comes up and says, you are going to have to move over, pointing across the bar to a table of strangers and sit with those guys, I have four people who need this table. WTF? I get it, people joining me at my table, but seriously, I'm the one who came in early, so seemed like a jerk move- and that's me using my very cleanest language. Needless to say, I left and will never go back- plenty of places in this town to watch football. So, there you go...don't go to Nicky's, bartenders are great- the owner isn't. Super fail. read more
